congratulations to all of you. And just a note to the California buyers, I think that our status changes when XoticPC or PNB recieves the laptop and ships it out of their warehouse.

We've known that the Sager's had the DDR2 memory for a while now, but I suppose that might clear up any confusion.

i lied before its not in jacksonville its on its way to jacksonville. dangit!!!!!!!! o well a few more extra days...
-
I think the confusion was that pretty much every where said that it'd be DDR2, but rivatuner, iirc, said it ws DDR3.

For those who have received their laptop, which company is used for shipping? UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Virtually all companies use UPS
-
If I halted all mail coming to my house since I am out of the country and my Sager NP2090 comes through UPS, it should also be stopped and kept at the post office, correct? Or will they leave it at my house? I thought with UPS, someone has to sign otherwise they won't leave it at your doorstep.
What I wanted was to have it shipped anyway (I ordered June 23th) and when I get back, I could pick it up on the same day. Does UPS have it's own building where I can pick it up? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The Post Office and UPS have nothing to do with each other.
UPS will deliver to your ship to address and will require an Adult (21) signature for delivery. The will not leave it at your doorstep without that signature.
UPS is not open on Saturday or Sunday. -
Okay thanks, I got your e-mail as well. Looking forward to having this baby in my hands on the 13th.
-
Here's a UPS FAQ regarding delivery attempts. I think that you need someone to be able to get hold of the notice they leave in order to be able to ask them to hold the package or deliver it at another location.
[Edit: the FAQ link above is created by vBulletin's autolinker... and has nothing to do with UPS. Is there a way to disable that "feature"?]
There's also something called "UPS Delivery Intercept" which allows redirection of a package while it is in transit or instructions to hold it. But, a) it is usable only by the shipper (from what I can tell), b) there's a "nominal fee" (UPS' language) and c) your reseller might not be keen to use that service.
When I ordered my laptop at PowerNotebook I mentioned to Donald the possibility that there would be spans of time during which I would not be able to take delivery of the laptop. He said he could work with me to time shipment. I initially did not need special scheduling but the later I informed him about when I would be unavailable and he took note of it. My point is that with some foresight scheduling problems can be taken care of at no extra cost. (The current delays change nothing to this. I've been delayed just like every one else and was still able to update Donald about my availability.) -

Regarding the signatures, there are 3 different types of packages...
listed here: http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/shipping/time/service/value_added/delivery.html
I guess there is a type of signature where anyone can sign it and another where an adult at least 21 years of age has to sign it. -
Paladin, what if a college student ordered it to there home where only they live and they are 18-20? They paid for it, but cant get it if some1 isnt over 21????
-
Don't worry, they never check for ID when delivering. I sign for packages all the time and I'm only 18.
-
but maybe you never required the adult signature.
-
yea, thats what i mean...i sign all the time, but i never had been asked for age, probably cause it was never this expensive.
-
find a friend that is 21 and let him hang out for a day at your place?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
There are two kinds of "Signature Required". One is anyone can sign and the other one is "Adult (21) Signature Required". If the UPS driver is doing their job correctly they will ask for ID to prove that whoever is signing is 21 or over.
-
paladin could u awnser this question though? I posted it above but here it is again
Paladin, what if a college student ordered it to there home where only they live and they are 18-20? They paid for it, but cant get it if some1 isnt over 21????
LOL, this doesnt affect me, ill just have my mom sign, but it seems to be a very plausible scenario -
I cant take the wait!! AAAAH *pulls hair* just kidding
I upgraded my shipping..lol -
lol technically my laptop was under my mom's name, because I borrowed money from her. She wasn't home and the ups guy let me sign for it and didn't check anything. And here's another thing, my mom and I don't share teh same last name because she kept her maiden name.
-
lol, hot diggidy dog, i cant wait to sign
-
My dad's gonna sign for it. I have orientation all week 8-5. Sucks big time.
-
i love how if your 18-20 your not an "adult", you can just be part of electing the most powerful man in the world.
-
i think if your name is on the billing address they will let you sign no matter how old you are
-
that would make more sense
-
I never understood the whole signature thing, seems like an old procedure for a new age, really. A synaptic scan of your fingerprint would make more sense to identify to the UPS man that you're the guy that needs delivering it to, but I suppose there's people that might oppose that "invasion of privacy". Maybe UPS does have some use for signatures, but I can't really think of a practical way of using that, to be honest.
-
well if they didnt have someone sign a delivery man could steal your laptop and you could do nothing to say that you didnt get it since they dont need anyone to sign for it
-
To do a finger scan they'd have to have the prints of everybody in the US, if not world.
-
GlueEater where are the pictures mate
-
nnyyahhh, I'm so lazy. I'll get them tomorrow. I'll take them tonight. What exactly was it that you guys wanted again?
-
Ok, I took some pictures. SOme of them are blury because my hand was shaking.
http://www.mediafire.com/?8j2il6nlgfm
I've included, the CDs you get with the sager, 2 pictures of the Sager label. 2 because one got it at a bad angle and it looked like it was heavily scarred, but really that'll always happen when you take a picture taht close up and with a flash, and this really applies to any picture I took. If you doubt me take a really close look at somethign like a TV screen and try to get it at an angle wehre the light hits it.
The finger print reader, power button, keyboard, camera, the hinges in case you wondered how it was held down, all the ports, the bottom showing switches that lock the battery in place, and the power unit.
And because so many are worried about the battery, I took pictures of the laptop with the 9 cell battery. From serveral angles and coin about the size of a quarter.
I know the flash is kinda bad, but wiht out it you couldn't see much. -
Can one of you.. or him post the actual pictures somewhere, instead of using a zip. Im at work and have ****ty network permissions, doesn't even let me install winrar =(
-
I just wanted to make sure about everything I have to do when I get the computer. If you can tell me that this is right, I'll be very happy.
1. Set up Vista
2. Install 32bit Vista
3. Install drivers in the order they appear on the websites.
Is that correct? I remember seeing that somewhere on this forum but forgot. Thanks. -
So I got everything installed and working, except for those WoW buttons. The other touch buttons work fine, and the WoW buttons light up to recognize they've been activated, but nothing happens. Is there something else that I need to install?
-
are you sure they are actually working but you just cant notice it? wow from what i know enhances sound quality so test that out.
-
I thought it was some sort of program that popped up. How am I supposed to even know if it's on? The light just flashes as you press it, it doesn't stay on.
-
-
lol, nice pics, but might wanna clean of all that carpet hair
-
I'm also glad to post pictures after I'm off of work. I can get my camera to take those really close up shots if you want to see something small.
-
And for those worried about the battery, it's actually smaller than that coin. Don't know if that shows in the picture.
On another battery related note, I like the 9 cell. It seems to give the laptop just a little bit more stability. -
GlueEater, have you used those WoW touch buttons? What do they do?
-
Thats all of em.
Great pics. *sigh* I really am getting tired of waiting. -
lol at this point he's probably home from work now...
But still nice for anyone who wants to see it. -
show us a video!!! and have a model poiniting the things out
-
Yeah i got so eager i took my bosses computer and downloaded the pictures
but thanks for uploading all of them, i can now stare at them on this laptop all day.. and dream off about the day my very own comes to me lol. aka monday! =) just wish i hadn't picked UPS ground to ship for CA all the way to maine... lol took a whole week =(
-

-
