    Hi all!

I have only read the first and last couple of pages of this, so could someone tell me if all sager np2090/compal ifl 90's all have ddr2 for the 256 version? I ask because cyberpowerpc is still saying they use gddr3 for the 256 version, and ddr2 for the 512 version.
    Thanks.

Sager does not sell a 256MB version.

The 256MB version is VBI so it is unlikely that it uses GDDR3

VBI means it is the "Verified By Intel" version of the machine. Here is a article on the VBI program.

What are the two buttons next to the keyboard? One of them looks like a usb and the other one looks like a power cord. Also can i reconfigure the quickplay thing so that it will open up something else, like instead of email, i make it msn messenger or something? Also what is the dimensions in inches?

One is for USB, or more to the point it gives you the ability to charge USB devices when the laptop is off. The second button is a quick charge button for your battery. It will do a quick charge up to 50% I believe before it switches over to normal charging mode.

For the Quick Charge button how do you know if it's even working? It doesn't become backlit when activated like the USB charging button...at least mine doesn't.

Nobody has posted here for some time so...
Got my FL2092 2 days ago. Its great as expected & more.
    Here are some thoughts:
    1) Had trouble at first with Win Xp & ACHI but its up & running.
    2) A little bit disappointed with keyboard as some of the keys (space bar, right ctrl & F1&F2) are not aligned horizontally ie tilted. I am not sure if they would hold for long but typing is easy over all.
    3) I also had some trouble with Quick charge trying to figure out how to activate it. It turn out your battery must be drained & your laptop off for it to turn amber & do its thing.
    4) The wireless switch is too hard to switch.
    5) The touch pad is hard getting used to it especially the scrolling feature which stops as it wants. Found no driver & Xp labeled it as a mouse!
    6) Got 3.5 hours on full power & 4 on conservative scheme.
    7) USB's are tight, you need to push firmly to get it into place.
    8) my mic is working fine, cam is great, though i could not find included software for cam only.
    9) There is slight keyboard flux at the usual F1 & F2, Q & W location but i think it does not harm anything.
    10) There is no IR receiver...a piece of plastic fills it place.
    11) took 5 days to get from Xotic Pc.
    Here are my specs:

I have had my Book for comming up on a year now and i have had no problems. I love how cool this thing runs especially on the Z cooler. Plays COD4 very well along with most other Games. Bumping down to XP and up to 3gb memmory helped too.

With the screen brightness turned down to as low as it can be while still being comfortable to read, and with the wireless off, when it is new you should get 4+ hours while reading, surfing, typing or other light use.

DVD viewing with the brightness down and no wireless or other applications working in the background should provide just over 3 hours (I consistently got 3:06 to 3:10).

For gaming you would need to cut the time in about half.

    How old is it?

Those are battery tests when the battery is new, but all batteries loose their power over time...and maybe you have the screen brightness too high, or you are running too much stuff in the background.

I have a PowerPro Compal IFL90 that's experiencing overheating issues with the 8600M GT. AFAIK all 8xxxM chips are affected. Currently, mine starts to overheat during long gaming sessions for short periods of time (20 seconds or so) and the laptop always spins the fan while idling at the lowest speed. The GPU itself idles around 60C. I believe that the overheating is getting worse; I've had the whole laptop shutdown during very long gaming sessions, which never happen when I first received the laptop. Does anyone have any idea about the repair/replacement policy on this? (nVidia or PowerNotebook)

Also, I have headphone jack that appears to slowly kill anything I plug into it. I've had it repaired twice, to no avail. Current victims are a Grado SR-80 :( and a SteelSound 4H. Anyone else have these problems? I use headphones whenever I use the laptop.

I've been having a problem with my FL90 automatically shutting down during long sessions of playing Freelancer. At first I thought it was overheating so I cleaned the vents and fan with compressed air spray and cue tips.

It still shuts down automatically on long gaming sessions, but I don't think it is overheating but it still shuts down without warning when playing on longer sessions. I can hear the fan spin up to the max then it shuts down. I don't think it is overheating b/c HWmonitor didn't show that any of he temps in the critical range. CPU was 59C GPU was 71C. When I play COD4 GPU is up at 81C and it doesnt auto shutdown either.

Any idea what might be causing this?

this is for anyone still using the 2090, i bought my from sager almost 2 years ago. i am still happy with the 2090 but its not my primary gaming laptop anymore, i got a gateway 6831 for that. anyways, if you want some more life from your 2090 in the cpu department then install a t8300 in it or any of the santa rosa refresh cpus (Penryn). i had the t8300 in the 2090 but its now in the gateway. they work but the temperatures dont seem to read out correctly. if you call the clevo tech support they will say that it doesnt support it or work, but they are wrong. just try it and get some extra life from your laptop.

    Hi there

I am currently running BIOS V1.14 on my IFL90.

I currently have a SATA 120Gb HDD, and want to get a new hard disk and clean install Windows 7 onto it.

Firstly, is there a guide floating around on how to update my BIOS to V1.18 please?

Secondly, does anyone know whether a SATA-II HDD will work in the IFL90, whether it will work at 3Gb/s, and if there is a size limit on any HDD?

Great site you have here, seems really helpful!

    Cheers

I have the SAGER NP2092. Excellent computer. There is only one thing that I want to know: What is the Clock Generator for the FSB? I can't seem to find it and no I personally will not open up the laptop to find it. Thanks for the great review and I look forward to a response.

Those fans are very cheap...just order one from your vendor.

Running without it will cause significant damage.

It shoudl say on startup what bios version you have. 1.18 is the newest non beta. You could download it here. But since updating the bios is always a risk and there are no big improvements, you dont have to do it unless you experience some errors that could relate to the bios version.

Hey guys i bought my ifl90 quite a while back and i've always had a problem with my quick launch button because they've never seemed to work. I'm talking about the 5 quick launch buttons that are supposed to be heat sensitive near the power button that launch web, mail, wow video, wow audio, and mute.
Does anyone else have a compal ifl90 with quick launch buttons that don't work? Has anyone fixed it?
    thnx,

    Hey,

Does the HDD LED work? If not, maybe the cable got disconnected from the board. Reparing it, is a 5 minutes job. Overstretch the monitor, drive a small screwdriver carefully and in parallel to the joints into the gap where the joints are located and lift it a bit. It might resist, so a little (LITTLE) bit force might be necessary. As far as I remember there are no screws from the bottom. I have somewhere photos, since I wanted to replace my graphics card (for that you have to dismantle the whole thing).
After lifting the panel there is a cable with 4 wires for the power button and a bigger one (something like 10 wires) for the buttons and HDD, Numlock LED etc. Just connected it back to the jack.

    Hey folks,

My IFL90 is just about to hit its 3rd birthday and I just want to take a moment to wish it a good 'un!

Despite being attacked by my then 8-month old son last year leaving me with a dodgy "?/" key (its a tad loose!) the lap-top has not skipped a beat...not once.
No graphics card problems (and she still plays Oblivion/ half-life / and even Crysis to my liking (granted, I'm not exactly running the graphics on crysis at their most awesome-of settings!), shes got no quirks, still running a lowly BIOS of 1.12 (or there abouts!) and shes just as good as the day I got her.

I did, however, have to remove the best part of three years fluff from the fan last week, which was nice!

So, if you are stuck in a time warp and its still summer 2007 where you are and you are considering buying the compal IFL90: I did, and I highly recommend you do to...

    now, all together now...

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday too you...etc...etc...

Just bought one of these on ebay for £270 for a little summer project. It comes from Eastern Europe and is made by a company called Odin, will post pictures when I pick it up tonight.
Already considering upgrading to a 3650, but will see what BIOS versions and specs it is before I do all that. Be prepared for lots of questions :p
