    Hello Guys,

    Quick question for the experts:

    Bios Illergear: 1.06 EC 1.24.06
Game Center: 1.2.2.8 (Set to Gaming mode)
    Intel XTU:

But despite the low activity of the CPU, the low temp etc..., the fan are working (slow rotation), this is not quiet. Sometimes, the fan are just quiet (no rotation) but once starting some basic tasks it will trigger the fan to work again...

I expect fans not to work when system is idle, correct? Any idea why and how to fix this?

    Your help is much appreciated.

Although it would be nice for systems to be completely silent, there are quite a number of notebooks that even on idle have fans working (and producing noise).
Have a look at these two reviews from Notebookcheck on this chassis:

Are you using an external monitor / tv? I noticed that plugging in anything into HDMI instantly turns on your Nvidia card, as well as adding extra 10w of TDP consumption onto CPU, which results in my fans kicking in.
Unplugging the monitor does not drop the usage most of the time as applications that were loaded onto Nvidia GPU continue to use it, so a reboot is the only thing that brings power consumption back down... Basically if you want battery life, reboot your laptop after unplugging yourself from a monitor - you will get another hour or 2.

Repasted my GPU sits around 62c, CPU goes up to 70c. Before repasting it was hitting 89c on CPU.
RE: Keyboard - its there from TongFang, but it looks like there are now better mechanical switches / keycaps available from some resellers like illgear... Man, I would really happily pay £50 to get those, c'mon PCS sell me some pleaaase! ;)

I know Walmart's release of these models has been highly criticized, but I think they present a fair value now on sale. I have yet to see legitimate criticism of these laptops beyond poor customer support and lackluster pricing.

$699 for 8300H/GTX 1050/8GB RAM... low-end, but a good option for casual gamers or entertainment laptops
$1,199 for i7-8750/GTX 1060/16GB RAM... competitive price for the specs
$1,499 for i7-8750/GTX 1060/32GB RAM... a lot of storage for the price (256GB SSD + 2TB HDD) plus the 17.3" inch screen: an interesting option for a budget workstation

Pricing is on par with, or beats out other resellers of this chassis.

Any idea why my fan profile in office mode automatically goes to 70% fan speed when starting an app or at idle? I can not change it unless I press the turbo fan button.. temps are 50c..

I have the 17" model from cyberpower. I know there is a 17" thread but there are way more experienced users on the 15" and they are very similar with similar software issues from the same manufacturer.

I am trying to adjust the fan to my liking but it seems to have a mind of its own and doesn't really follow the game center settings too closely. On idle my temps are around 35c which is great for a laptop but it always boots with the fans running and takes five minutes for it to shut them off. Unless I am unplugged in battery saver mode, it will sporadically turn the fans on and off. Sometimes it will spin all the way up for no good reason and spin back down and turn off.

Also want to know if there are any new bios available. Cyberpower's site is lacking in drivers and support.

I've been looking high and low for a black version of this chassis in the United States. HIDEvolution, Eluktronics, and Walmart all sell this chassis in a "gunmetal grey" color. I thought I finally found it in black with the CyberPowerPC version of this chassis; the Tracer III 15 Slim. However, as per this video, it seems the lid is still a "gunmetal grey" color.

Can anyone confirm this for me? If it does turn out to be grey, are there any actual distributors of this chassis in the US that sell a black chassis? Thanks mates.

Hello ladies and gents, I haven't been on the forum for a long long time, there's like 60 pages since I last visited. Are there any great improvements bios-wise? I have the Mechrevo 1.10 with EC 1.23, is there anything better? (in terms of performance, power efficiency, anything).

I stopped visiting the forum around the time when we were talking about free screen replacement by PCSpecialists because the first panel they sold it with that this horrible light leak and this strange effect when using the screen with low brightness. How about that, anyone sent it back?

Also, PCS standpoint on a larger PSU?

    1) Yes, there is a bit of improvement with bios 1.11,but nothing so important. There should be also a bit of gpu performance boost

    2) I was one of the guy with the light leak. I sent the laptop back and in a week they replaced the screen.

    3) For the 180W psu replacement I don't think they replaced to anyone. I just bought an Asus 180W for 35 bucks

Thank you, I will send it back one of these days but I use my laptop too much, so I'm waiting for the perfect opportunity really. When it comes to the PSU, my PC works with the 150W one, so not sure how the 180W would change anything. If they replaced it for free I'd take it but otherwise I don't think I'll see a huge improvement otherwise.

Hi! They replaced my screen because of the light leak, clean work and it's working fine now.

Regarding the PSU I asked for a 180W before sending the computer, they first told me it was ok but when they had it they told me my chassis (15" with 1060) isn't compatible with the 180W PSU...
I'm not so much into gaming or heavy things now so I just use the 150W one.

Yeah this "not compatible" thing is just an excuse imo. Other than the light leak issue, is the new screen better looking? Or just basically the same with no leak?

Not sure if you can beat $999 for the 8750H + GTX1060 with a 144hz panel. The 17.3” model is excellent at that price too, if you can justify 32GB of RAM... or even if you can’t!

I'm really tempted to jump on this as I have been seriously looking at the eluktronics mech g2 recently. The only thing holding me back is the OP brand. It should be the exact same machine, right? Anyone have experience with Walmart's return policy if it is needed? Any restocking fees or anything?

Walmart gives you 15 days to return computers, should be more than enough time to take it for a test drive. https://help.walmart.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3228/~/returns,-replacements-and-refunds#R4

Here's some insight on the sale from Bob Of All Trades:

The return window is extended during Christmas time, I believe it is January 10th (could be off a couple days) that it must be returned by. Plenty of time to give a proper test drive! Also, there is no restocking fee.

I am not sure about the extended return window. When I was in Walmart couple of days ago, they stated 90 days for anything except electronics. Electronics/Laptops is 15 days only. I asked about the extended return, and the person said no changes. So who knows. But 15 days is still good to evaluate, etc. My main concern is the support (tech, drivers, bios, etc.). Will they be able to support it? I asked the question on their main website and never heard back from them.

Regarding the PSU yes I'm almost certain it was an excuse and I din't liked the fact they just lied to me for some reason...

The screen look the same to me! Btw I asked for the 144Hz one and they did the exact same thing than for the PSU: Before sending it "It should be ok for the 144Hz one" after sending it "Your chassis isn't compatible"...

So after reading half of this thread I want an update on some questions:
    1. I'm mostly worried about loudness of the laptop. I get it that it can cool itself well but I'm not too sure whether you can balance performance/comfort while gaming.
From reviews I've seen it seem the laptop is programmed to keep CPU at 80 degrees max which is unnecessary. Is this true, and can internal fan control (EC) be overridden with speedfan or similar software in order to adjust PWM curve at high temperatures? If that's the case I wonder if it would be possible to let's say make the upper limit 90 degrees, reduce fan RPM for the 70-90º range and still comfortably game with a laptop on your lap? Or does the bottom part get too hot for that?
    2. What's the status of linux support? People at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200787 say the touchpad still doesn't work in kernel 4.19, and resume from suspend is broken. Is this true? What about nvidia optimus?
    3. What about hackintosh? I've read somewhere early in the thread it was giving people black screen with broken keyboard ant touchpad.
    4. Have vendors updated their BIOSes with firmware spectre fixes from intel?

    Per their corporate webpage: https://corporate.walmart.com/policies

So I guess TECHNICALLY its still a 15 day return period but the timer doesnt start until 12/26.

On another note, got my WalMart variant today. This thing throttles like CRAZY. It uses (1) 16GB stick of goldkey ram, not sure who the maker is of the SSD and a 180w Chicony HU10436-16116 PSU.

Ill run some other tests after work today but when I was running tests in throttlestop and XTU I could see there was throttling going on even though temps looked to be fine. It was actually a little cooler running than the y7000 (by a few degrees C) but the CPU scores on the y7000 are quite a bit higher and there was no noticeable throttling.
I also ran Sky Diver in 3dmark but forgot to post the results before going to bed. The Y7000 scored 29488 while the OP actually black screened and rebooted during the first test, second test for that one brought a score of 25,xxx (dont remember and dont have it powered on at the moment). I'll re-run them later today and post an easier to read comparison.

    Hi all,

Sorry for the radio silence, busy few months on the home front.

For reference - 180W adapters are on offer for anyone who received a 150W adapter with the i7 + 1060 spec. We have actively replaced these for customers in the past and will continue to do so if any legacy orders still require the swap. The 1.04 BIOS update fixed most issues, the 180W adapter and firmware tweak is mostly to reduce power throttling and strain on the battery.

Moving to brown style switches - still in the works, stock took longer to come through than expected for the 15.6" model. The 17.3" model has these as standard. Replacement for existing laptops only viable on Recoil II (5Z and 6Z). Vyper not an option due to design of the keyboard.

Enjoy your Christmas in advance to all those who celebrate. If you have any queries please tag me in the post or message me, otherwise I won't get notifications and might not be able to check posts for a bit.

    OP i7 8750h + 1060 here. Factory 180w brick.

CPU PL limits to 35w regardless of gaming center setting.

    Working on solution. Your thoughts?

Does the keyboard / palmrest area warm up just during web browsing / casual use? How about the bottom of the laptop?

It's the main reason I returned the m15 I had... temps became reasonable during gaming for max on CPU & GPU, but it would just be overall warm to handle even if I wasn't gaming.

Well I dont own this laptop yet. But the thing to do seems to be reflash with other [not walmart] BIOS. As per the instructions lost earlier within this thread. 1st post should have it though.

Something I quickly wanted to ask about this laptop though:

Does the gtx 1060 version still have as the 2nd m.2 slot the:

    pcie-x2 only?

Because what I really want to do is buy this laptop and populate it with 2x sata m.2, as that is significantly cheaper. Permitting higher capacities. And no, there will not be space for it in the 2.5 inch bay... because this laptop also desperately needs and will be getting the larger 72wh battery.

It's not thermal throttling however, but PL throttling. I'm working on a solution. So far many of these were configured to run on a 150w brick and there's something you can do to get it to recognize the 180w brick.

    That's my next step.

Otherwise temps are almost too good because of the Power Limit Throttling. It doesn't like to be much past 35w

Looking at the AIDA numbers posted above, those temps are only marginally better than the M15 (which I was able to curb substantially through TS and limiting boost). I was hoping for better based on the Mech G2. I'm holding out hope BUT!

I have to buy a memory kit to get dual channel ram, need a better SSD to be on par with the M15 and by the time I am done, I'll be close to the M15 price I paid, but have a 1070 (i know, it's not that much better than a max p 1060)... Still... Dell has been bending over backwards trying to stop me from shipping it back. I have it boxed up but the UPS guy didn't show up today. Maybe it's a sign.

The OP 15+ is sitting in my office at home. I am definitely looking forward to messing around with it. If you unlock it to max potential keeping thermals in check I still may keep it but having to shell out more money for additional components have to be factored in.

we've had OP15 users get it to stick to 45W properly once it uses the proper high performance setting in the built in software, so that might be your unit having issues specifically. Why not get them to swap it and see if it still happens?

Others are having the same issue over on slickdeals so it's likely software, BIOS or that other 150w to 180w brick update that might be necessary.

I changed the settings in game center to high performance mode, not sure if that made any difference but it looks like scores are a little higher compared to when I ran them last night. When running Intel XTU the PL and CL throttling kicked in almost immediately upon starting the test and went the whole way through. No Thermal throttle whatsoever.
I should also add, undervolted -141mV.

is possible that a BIOS flash needs to happen. Though Walmart should be capable of such a basic thing. I know for certain that the unit should be fine on a 150W brick; 55W PL2 + 78W GPU isn't even 140W, the brick should be more than fine. But who knows, TongFang is senile and thinks that unlocking power draw would require the thing to have a 500W power brick apparently.
