A few weeks ago somebody else here shared this XTU script. If it were me I would kill all of theGaming Centre processes (and open up 'Services', stop any windows services relating to it). Close throttlestop. Then load up intel XTU, and try this script. See if that helps:
Totally forgot about it.
-
After going through the complete list of active windows services for anything suspicious. Then another useful tool for finding persistent resident tasks is 'Autoruns.exe' from sysinternal's. Because there are also background a scheduled task (windows task scheduler). And a few other ways they can get launched in the background.
-
Ultimately if I can get this to work with some sort of funky script adjustments for myself that’s fine.
But when reviewing these creating a simple explanation or solution is my only option.
For whatever reason this does not want to work like it’s supposed to and I feel like the answer is a lot more simple than what’s being suggested just based on my previous usage of the same chassis hardware and software.
You guys are fantastic! But I don’t know whether to be confused or disappointed with this laptop right now. -
Is the concern for this mainly just for gaming (seems like it only occurs during BF5 so far for you?) If I tried this thing out, gaming would be secondary (the GTX1050 version just arrived) so I could live with that

Same wattage results of 35w on battlefield 1 and 5 and all the other games that are CPU intensive.
It’ll pull 50w at first (sometimes) but within a minute or so it settles back to 35w. Of course this is with gaming mode enabled and Turbo too for good measure.
It’s literally the same spec minus the single channel ram at the Mech G2.
I’ve tried what is basically the strongest performance BIOS available and it didn’t phase it.
I know that it’s not tied to my machine specifically because others are having the exact same experience.

There are plenty of us that are getting 45 steady under very heavy load stress tests, I don't have battlefield but I will try to test some games when I get home and have time, end of semester is killing my time.
Also I recommend screenshots of data and settings in the power settings and control panel because its pretty difficult to correlate anything with just words.Last edited: Dec 12, 2018 -

I posted my stock aida + heaven stress test earlier in the thread. The power package heald at a steady 45w the entire time, with spikes upward if anything. The clock held at consistent 3.0
After that I undervolted it and was able to increase clocks to 3.5 steady, still holding the same steady 45w power package. These tests should be far more brutal, especially on the CPU, then BF V. I would post my second test but I'm sadly at work.Last edited: Dec 12, 2018JamesCoy likes this. -
So this is down to $899 now on walmart.com. Make sure to get your price match if you ordered.

Running AIDA64 and Heaven I can get 51w on the CPU post undervolt and 65w when alt-tab out of Heaven. All is well right? No lol
Playing BF1 is 35w or 26w post undervolt. Other games that are CPU intensive offer the same results.
Nothing changed in my settings between the two.
I might make a quick update video today and see if we can get more heads in on this. -

I did think about throwing my dual channel kit in there but that’s not going to solve the wattage issue. -

Can we please stick to the topic at hand. Also didnt the Aero have 2 sticks? Its common knowledge that that would run better then a single stick. Regardless...
To properly see if there is any difference in performance or setup... screenshots would be invaluable... settings, benchmark results, benchmark settings. Everything can help. -
-
Feel free to look at this thread but for the sake of simplicity start at page 12. You'll see that everyone is having the same issue that I'm talking about.

Of course you can go back a few days for further discussions on it -

I’ll have a video up shortly to demonstrate what I’m talking about.billycuth likes this. -
I would like to see you do the same... and then the games in question... and your settings. To make sure they match.
I'm not trying to be rude and I understand you are a content creator, infact you are part of the reason I felt comfortable purchasing this laptop (not the sole reason tho) but screenshots take a literal second to produce... -
Keep in mind this is also created as a PSA as well as discuss the issues, show external video on the Aida/Heaven running and what happens when alt-tabbed out as well as BF1 and BF5 gameplay with all settings set exactly as when benchmarked.
You’re good my man! I’m just stumped and have far more testing than this discussion and video will reflect.
Especially when you consider my two blissful weeks with the Mech G2 lol.billycuth likes this. -

Well I'll be installing ram when I get home and maybe I'll just grab battlefield v and return it to compare vs your results and see if maybe it is a ram bottleneck or something else. It seems illogical if not impossible that you can still have this problem after installing a new bios even. It's not a hardware issue, since we are all aware that tongfang chassis are shipped with all those key components installed.
-
-
Since the chassis has everything other then storage and ram installed, only ram and storage can be "different" variables in the hardware.
You switched bios to one considered high performance, so firmware can be ruled out.
I think you said you did a fresh install and or removed the control panel for the eluk one. So that would rule out software...
You can understand why I'm at a loss. -

The only redeeming quality this machine has for me outside of the price is the display. I got a PERFECT LG panel with absolutely no light bleed whatsoever. Extremely impressed with that. But otherwise, this thing doesn't perform any better than my 2012 Lenovo y580, despite the huge leaps since then.
I'm out.Last edited: Dec 12, 2018 -
Good!!! Hope they drop it to ~599..then i'd pick one up and fiddle round with itbillycuth likes this. -
One thing I noticed in the Intel XTU program today was that: in the default: 'dynamic voltage' mode, the thing just does not work well at all. It does not get up to full power, and is jack rabbiting around all the time. Up and down up and down.
Have to switch it over to 'fixed /static voltage' mode. For it to actually respect the other settings properly. And maintain a high and steady clockspeed. Then it works well.
Another thing i noticed was that in the archive for those XTU scripts, there is a very specific version of the Gaming Center software they recommend. In the README instructions text file.
The rest of it is powershell scripts to control XTU. So presumably you could just set things up manually in the GUI instead of that. Whilst testing things out. -
Indeed. At $899 they are almost definitely clearing stock and planning to axe this whole venture. Otherwise what else could they be possibly thinking? Wouldn't expect these to be available for very much longer.
-
I won’t be able to load it up till this evening unfortunately.
Probably won’t do jack squat but it’s nice to see their willing to work with me here lol.steberg, richierich and billycuth like this. -
I am not a retail genius, but we know Walmart's motivation for making an entry into this segment of a market and it's not charity. -

"gaming center 1.2.2.3"
Was the precise version that the guy recommended in the XTU scripts. Probably won't make any difference but heh! It seemed worth mentioning in case you never tried that version.
The real question is: what is it about launching games themselves that puts the computer into some type of a "game mode" ? Could it be microsoft's windows 10 game mode tuning? Or something else like that?
Since you are saying that unigine heaven is absolutely fine, and doesn't do it.B0B likes this. -

The GPU needs more food and now the CPU can dish it out with the additional helping hand.
Keep in mind that video is post tuning just for simplicity sake.
Uncapped no tweaks pushes wattage a good bit above that on all accounts, single or dual channel. -

I own a recoil ii 15.6 6Z and after asking PCS support they tell me that brown switches are not compatible with my model because they are soldered to the board. Is it like that? How can I get the option to switch to brown switches?
Thanks!! -
Just played some Fortnite Save the World and was seeing (afterburner) watts hitting 45. Undervolt is sitting at -143mV. Gaming mode in Fan Settings and High Performance in Sys Monitor.
I don't understand the discrepancy in benchmarks between this OP and the Legion Y7000 though. Benchmarks show the Y7000 dominating this thing in every which way.richierich likes this. -
My Recoil II runs at 3914mhz around 30W. In CB15 it scored around 1200 do I need that 45W?
About the Brown switches: can I replace my Blue switches to Brown Switches? -
@B0B
I don't know if this helps but I have the cyberpowerpc tracer iii slim (8750h, 1050ti model). The bios flashed on it was illegear in this thread, and ingame it never goes over 35w even on high perfm setting. I played BF1 and it was 35w the entire time (but the cpu clock bounced from 3.3ghz to 3.9ghz often and was more towards 3.8ghz 80% of the time). -
So my OP 15 just came in (with the GTX1050 in case it matters) and I'm actually quite impressed with it for the price... So I decided to test all the ports before keeping it in case Walmart support is terrible... everything seems to be working except the USB C port.
The only "device" I have to be able to test the USB C port is a USB C -> HDMI cable I have. It works on my XPS 13 so I know it is not a cable issue. But after googling, it seems not all USB C ports have to support HDMI out either, so I'm not sure it's the port. It detects I plugged something in, but it shows that the device failed.
Tried uninstalling USB 3.1 device in hardware manager but no go after reinstalling... do we know if this port supports display out? -
Note, I am a novice when it comes to some of these programs, but here are some screenshots from BF V:

Key Takeaways: The PL1 never drops below 45, and I am hitting more then 40 power package. and consistently high clocks.Installed64 likes this. -

This is why I need more data, you never really told us how long you were using it for so I thought you were implying it throttles right away.
