What exactly are you seeing? I tested the Live CD (via USB) with the older BIOS / EC too and besides the touchpad and graphics, it was fine.

does anyone else have a faint "clicking" noise when tapping their trackpad? Not when you make a literal left or right click, but everywhere you go to rest your finger theres like a .05mm of give? I guess this is what @B0B was talking about in his video.
-
Both systems will completely freeze on ubuntu 18.04 with in a few seconds of loading and will not even let me install. Mint will let me install but then fails to reboot properly - just goes to a black screen. Again this is on both OP systems I have.
-
First of all, I set my fans to automatic during gaming, and the temps are still great. And secondly, even the max fans on this thing are quieter than the Clevo PA71HS-G I have on the table next to it, so we know it at least could be worse.
I do a lot of typing on Cherry MX Black switches, but also a lot of other keyboards. At first I hated the feel, but I do have to say that after a week+ of usage the keyboard is really growing on me. Especially after comparing it side-by-side with chiclet-style keyboards. I can get over the cramping hands and misstyped keys to have that extra key travel. Also, if you type a little softer, the bottom out isn't as jolting and I feel the typing experience is fairly smooth. While no, it doesn't compare to my other Cherry MX Brown keyboard at all, I am beginning to feel more similarities between them than I had before.nimaim likes this. -
I've seen this ... it's trying to get the right frequency, resolution, etc. for your screen. There is an entire article about this: https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/842. In GRUB, press e to edit the boot entry and try adding "nouveau.modeset=0" or more generically, "nomodeset" to the kernel parameters and then F10 to boot that edited menu.
-
Linux mint 19.1 will lock up on the attempt to reboot on the install - see photo. Ubuntu will simply lock up a few seconds after booting to the desktop on both 18.10 and 18.04. Going to try aManjaro with kernal 4.19.

Do you have linux working on this version Overpowered 15+ (Oct 2018 manufacture date)? Manjaro is a no go as well.
-
There is a known issue regarding linux. It's already been solved. Sorry, I cant remember what that is. Somewhere earlier in this thread.
-
It's not the trackpad issue. I am curious if the Oct 2018 manufacture date has some other hardware issues with Linus that previous versions do not.
-
Yes mine is also manufactured 10/18. As long as Mint installs, you should be okay ... after install, my live CD sometimes failed to reboot also, seems to be hit or miss. I actually installed 19 and then upgraded to 19.1. Not that it should matter but I only had a 19 USB stick at the time.
-
Are most people running factory paste or re-pasting?
-
Strange... Thanks for your input. As I need a working Linux machine this machine is going to have to go back. Too bad, I really like the laptop!
-
Like I said, I use Linux 90% of the time for my applications as well ... I think you should give it another shot. I would have returned it days ago if it didn't work on Linux. I seriously doubt there is that much of a hardware difference (after all the chassis is identical to the Mech G2, and a bunch of other laptops from months ago).
Factory right now but planning to do a Kryonaut repaste along with the bigger battery (if/when that ever comes back in stock). I don't want to remove 18 screws every single time I want to update something. -
I’ve decided to just use 5 screws till the battery install is finished.
1 in the middle and 1 per corner.richierich and clone1008 like this. -
Good idea, but if I did that I'd lose the rest of the screws

Still having the same issues on both machines. Really strange. Even with mint 19.

How are you installing it? Erase whole disk option? Like I said, I started from scratch and wiped everything out in Gparted. You will have problems if you have existing Windows on it. Also make sure secure boot it off, it doesn't play well with some stuff. If you're nuking out the entire drive, maybe set up the partitions manually (set up ext4 root /, ext4 /home, and swap equal to the amount of your RAM). You can do that in Gparted OR in their guided installer.
-
Yep - only disk installed, secure boot off, etc. I have done numerous Linux installs and have never run into these roadblocks.

Just a heads up OverPowered has now posted Drivers and Control Center on their website:

Repasting with Arctic MX-4 when I go to change out the RAM. I'll post before and after numbers if I can remember.
-
Says 5gb dl.. that can't be right. 5gb for OP Control Center? No way.
-
If you have a great deal of core temp discrepancy it's likely because MX-4 is too soft. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but more dependent on the cooler and how it well it makes symmetrical contact.
For ME personally, anything 5c or greater and I use something else.GTRagnarok likes this. -
Let’s check it out!

All the drivers for the Mech G2 (which is what I used when I first got this thing) was like 200mb. Maybe they give you Windows 10? lol

Does anyone else have light bleed on the display? Here is a picture of mine. It kind of bothering me.
I'm wondering if this is something returning over.Attached Files:

Looks like the BIOS in in that big file too
-
Mine has that along the bottom left hand side as well. I don't really notice it outside of bootup though.
-
Just picked mine up from Walmart. That pick up tower technology was very impressive and very low friction experience.
Anyways, first thing i looked for on mine was any light bleed on the screen. I was pleasantly surprised to not see any at all. Certainly nothing as extreme as shown in your picture.
Whats the best way to test for light bleed? An all black screen and look at all edges?
BTW- keyboard feel is nice, but typing on it will take some getting used to. I find myself clicking the trackpad with my right palm when typing some times. This was my biggest concern and where hesitation was between 15+ and 17+. So glad i went with 15+ metal chasis - this keyboard is fine! Also, 15 is big enough screen. 17 would be too big for me and would take away from portability IMO. First impressions = very satisifed.
Now to install my other 16gb Patriot stick arriving later today and then start on some other tweaks. -
Well I'm jealous to hear that. I might just have to exchange this and hope for a better screen. When I gently touch the bezel below the light bleed, it GREATLY exaggerates the problem.
But yeah, you can check it. Set screen saver to "blank" and then preview it -
Looks like they still haven't update the manual with the 2 year warranty terms. As long as they don't release the warranty terms for the 2 year Walmart warranty you should be able to take them to court over not disclosing the terms of the warranty contract if they ever deny your warranty claim.
-
Yes I have that as well. You can tighten it up as Bob mentioned in his video.
-
FYI, I posted a quick comparison of the 15+ and 17" here:

Hi all, picking mine up tonight. How bad is the bloat ware on this thing?
If I do a fresh Windows Install, do I just download the ISO of the Microsoft Site and use they key that comes with this laptop?
What other software will I have to install, besides the Nvidia drivers, and the OP software? -
That driver set really was 10GB.... The reason is that there's at least two complete sets of old drivers included. I'm not going to use any of it for now unless I run into an issue.
-
If anyone else can get any version of linux working, please let me know. I tried once again and still not luck.
-
So anyone having issues with the Wi-Fi? Mine keeps dropping the connection every now and than. I have the latest Intel Wi-Fi Drivers, that Windows was able to find. Any suggestions for the drop off?
-
Wondering this as well I have mine as of yesterday and it looks pretty clean overall. However 3 services I don’t recognize are starting up
“OEM”
“OOBEI2CTpOnOffDetect”
“OSDTpDetect”
Wondering if I should just do a clean install inn win10 -
Well off the top of my head I’m pretty sure that OEM is their OP gaming center.
Something like that. -
Yes they are part of the OP gaming center. I have found I can disable “OOBEI2CTpOnOffDetect” and “OSDTpDetect” on startup with no perceived difference. “OEM” is the main application.

I honestly don't feel like this had any bloatware installed at all besides the default Candy Crush and Solitaire apps that come installed by default on ANY install of Windows 10. It's very easy to just open the start menu and right click on those couple of things and uninstall. The only other program this seemed to come with by default was the OP Control Center which I think is a must have for these so you can customize the lighting so I did not feel the need at all to format or do a clean install which I usually do for most devices.richierich, GoobyPlzz, jppflg and 1 other person like this. -
Slight light-bleed visible in bottom middle/middle right. Not so noticeable unless on blank screen.

One thing I will say is that the battery life is quite sad on the 15. It really needs like double just to be semi portable. My 2014 MBP has a better battery life still lol. Also the battery seems to get decently warm while charging.
-
Got the laptop in the mail... Finally! I am liking it so far though I still have to get used to the keyboard. It is definitely a bit clickier than what I am used to and the keys are pretty close together. The screen is beautiful and it is surprisingly light. I can't wait to play some games on this thing!
-
Didn't I post literally the same exact instructions in my guide? Just curious why that didn't work ..
I agree, bare minimum should have been that larger 4 cell, which unfortunately renders the 2.5" bay useless. But if they can put such a huge battery in the Aero, I was hoping for something a bit bigger in this. But it is what it is, Aero is the extreme, most gaming laptops have a 3-4 cell.Last edited: Dec 21, 2018 -

Hey all - Just grabbed the 15+ from Walmart and have been messing with it all day while following all of Bob's vids on YouTube.. Just found an interesting deal over at NewEgg and I wondered if the HiveMind here would give me a sanity check to verify if this stuff would fly on this chassis:
https://tinyurl.com/y74bbvlc
In a nutshell, it's Team T-Force Vulcan 32GB (2 x 16G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) @ $214.99
That price is pretty smokin' if it'll run on this laptop.. I basic scanning of the net showed that the ram maker puts this brand of memory out for Gaming and Performance-based rigs..
Thanks!
