Yeah I may put in the bigger one if it becomes easily available and at a decent price. I don't need the 2.5" slot.

I have a little on the bottom left, but nowhere near as bad as that looks in your photo. Might be worth swapping to see if you get a better panel if it's bothersome.

I'm afraid when (if?) the batteries become available again, they are going to sell out very quickly. Did anyone explain the situation to the seller? Might make it a higher priority to get them back in stock if they know numerous people are ready to buy them due to this deal.

I believe many here, including myself, have contacted them. They are trying to contact their supplier to get more. That's the last I heard. I'm more worried that it may never happen, that battery seems to be like sole sourced, can't find it anywhere else.

EDIT: I tried to contact the 2 members here that posted pics of the mod to get exact battery dimensions, as maybe other batteries could work, but no response.

Does anyone know of the newest BIOS for the i5 model from Walmart? It shipped with 102, I flashed the BIOS from that Overpowered posted today in that 5gb drivers file and it was version 100. The only real downside is that it turns my wireless card off every time I reboot. I tried the BIOS files for the i7(104 and 105) and they refuse to flash for some reason.
On a side note, I added a stick of memory to this thing and can run Fallout 4 on pretty decent settings at over 60 fps, plus it improved my Cinebench score by over 350 points. This thing was the deal of the century and this keyboard is just pure joy compared to the Touchbar Macbook I have to use for work.

if you are gonna pay an extra $214, why not just get the 17+? CAS18 from your link vs CAS19 of the goldkey, i doubt it would be much difference?

That doesn't look bad at all as far as backlight bleed on notebook IPS panels go, and the camera makes it appear worse than it is.

Make sure your fans are set to gaming and power to balanced/equilibrium. Mine ran about like yours before when I had fans at office and power set to high performance. Now it idles around 42 and is nearly silent when not gaming.

Do any of the Walmart overpowered models have 2 channel memory. YouTube posts they are all single
Channel but the 17 inch is 32gb of ram probably two sticks of ram in two different slots would that mean it’s dual channel or could it still be single channel ram?

    Thanks

So, I have officicially returned the Alienware M15. I had ordered a Razer Blade stealth 2019. I was very excited for about 5 hours. Then all of a sudden the ssd starting making some seriously whacked noises. It’s going back tomorrow.

I’m sticking with the Tong Fang Walmart op special!

Anyone know if there's a way to invert the media and fn keys? i.e. if I hit the F8 key, it will mute the volume and if I hit FN + F8 it will do F8?

Got my 15+ today and it's nice, still need to update the EC and Bios, next on my list. Will need to tighten the trackpad as well.

On OP's website, the 15+ is the LP2 drivers, right?

So I downloaded the bios/driver package from OP website. The bios folder has a batch file called F. Will that batch file update both the bios and the EC? Or only the bios. I seem to recall earlier that there were two batch files.

It did and no I haven’t. I reset it and packed it up. It sat in the corner all week.

I’m going to go out on a limb and buy a dual channel memory kit and a better ssd. Then repaste the sumbitch and hope to god I didn’t make the wrong bet.

    I’m counting on Bob.

That price seems steep. Premium memory in a budget laptop decreases its value for the price.

The 17” has dual channel RAM of course.

I agree. I was looking at a Razer Blade 15, before I found the OP 15 +. I believe they both use the same panel. I have been trying out several laptops over the last couple of months (hp omen 15, aw 15r4, MSI raider rgb and aw 13r3), but am really digging this one. And you can’t go wrong for $799 ( $699 in your case :) )

Can’t remember where I read that Tongfang is basically owned by the People’s Republic of China.

Actually, I'm not sure the pic is doing it justice. It's really noticeable on a black screen and I can notice it on a color screen too. I was trying to figure out of everyone pretty much had this, or id my screen was a dud.

Yeah I have a small amount, very small, above the F4/F5 keys, but other than that it's perfect. I really have to look for it to even notice, and it's really only visible with against black.

Shouldn't be much trouble to just exchange it, probably worth it if it's bothering you.

While gaming is anyone else getting really hot temperatures on the top of the laptop towards the top center by the power button (above the keyboard) ?

I can't touch that section without nearly burning my fingers!

YES! Just installed 2nd stick of ram and opened up PUBG for the first time. That exact area was burning hot on mine while in game. Gaming Center showed 80c GPU temp highest I saw. Back down to 47c while typing this. I guess this is normal for a thin and light?

It seems to be hot enough to actually burn if you let it.. Day 1 drawing near a close with the 15+ and im still super pumped about it. Hot spot is a bummer though.

Havent got BF5, but BF1 sticks to 3.9Ghz throughout... Have you guys repasted your CPUs? Knocked 13c off my temps and brought TDP down to 45 when at 3.9Ghz.

    Alright, thanks. Also, still relevant:

Anyone know if there's a way to invert the media and fn keys? i.e. if I hit the F8 key, it will mute the volume and if I hit FN + F8 it will do F8?

Also 2 finger scrolling seems pretty slow for me in Google Chrome. I increased the amount of lines it should scroll in Windows' mouse settings, but it doesn't seem to do anything for Chrome (or Spotify). Anyone know of a solution?

Oh, and finally, does anyone know of any anti-fingerprint coating I could spray/rub onto the laptop? >< I have another aluminum laptop and it doesn't really pick up fingerprints, this thing is a fingerprint magnet though it seems.

I wasn’t able to do this but I did see that op added the drivers to their site. It turned out to be the card reader I believe. All good now.

The system is all setup and is performing as it was after I reset it last time, which is to say not great but certainly not making any ridiculous noises. I ordered a second stick of gold key ram off eBay and will get a new ssd and battery down the road. Can’t complain for $750. At least the thing operates!

I've had the 1060 model for a few days now, still trying to dial it in just right. I think I've got it pretty much done.

    - repasted with MX-4 (the stock paste seemed cheap, and they put waaaaay too much!)
    - dual channel memory
    - gaming mode fan profile, and equilibrium mode
    - ThrottleStop undervolt running -150mv

It's running great, getting like 1250 in cinebench. The only concerning thing is that while gaming, my CPU is peaking at 91-92C. I'm not sure how to come up with a logical solution for this, or if I should even be concerned. I'd be okay with sacrificing a little bit of CPU performance to drop those temps to about 85C, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about doing that. I tried a higher undervolt in ThrottleStop, but it's just giving me system instability. I know I can run it in office mode for a 35W peak, but that really hurts FPS in games too much. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm also starting to think that these CPU's used in the OP Wal-Mart machines are the poorly binned ones, and that's why they run soo hot. Just a thought lol

I don't understand how I have subpar performance comparing with all your posts.

I try to play Fortnite and I always get less than < 60fps, and I have a lot of the game graphics options disabled.

I have OC GamingCenter 1.2.2.8 on Equilibrium, Windows on Balanced, undervolt on DDU CPU -120mV.

I have the 8GB factory RAM and haven't repasted yet, but it's not normal that I have such bad performance gaming...

Well, I mean, I get like 60-90 FPS since the start of season 7 on my desktop that has 32gb ram, i7, GTX 1070, with most settings on low/disabled and even using downscaling, whereas I used to get 200+. I'm installing it on the 15+ now, I'll let you know how it fares.

Generally when I play i put the fans on turbo, its a bit louder than without it, but still quieter than my previous 2 clevos with their fans left on auto.
If you're using headphones then its pretty unnoticeable.

If yours came with 8gb of RAM, then the reason could be that most of these posts are about the i7, gtx 1060 model, which comes with 16gb standard and will have better game performance overall

Bob, what is that software you are using to display the cpu/gpu information on screen while gaming?
