Curious to know if they just changed the key caps and added silencers to them, rather than brought out a whole new keyboard (in which case changing the KB would be easy). Anyone who speaks french want to contact them to see if this keyboard upgrade can be bought separately to mod an existing system?

    The vid links not working.

Someone earlier on this thread modded their keyboard, bending some components under the keycaps, which made things quieter. Was hoping they'd post a vid of the outcome of doing it, but they went pretty quiet after some ppl requested it.

I just set everything I found to power saving, main thing is PCI-e and CPU speed limit to prevent it from going into turbo boost, use only screen brightness necessary. Also, make sure you force windows to use the iGPU for everything in Nvidia control panel. You can also set special rules for each app wether to use the global setting (iGPU) or use something else, such as the dGPU.

Below is a quote from this thread, I remembered that someone posted the 1050ti bios.

HOW TO REMOVE CLICKY SOUND FROM OURs GK5CN5Z/6Z
I made short tutorial on how to remove the clicky noise sound from our tongfang keyboard. The button feeling totally changes and there is an high risk to destroy your button. So pay a lot of attention on what you do and try firstly on an unused button how i did.
This is a reversible mod, so you can revert back to the old feeling when you want.

Required two small flat schrewdriver (or something similar).

@lKinder_Bueno is the Baidu fix fundamentally similar to yours? Or do they do something else?

Does Optimus still not work on this machine if you have to force the iGPU to work in most areas?

    Hello everybody,

I would like to buy this laptop on PCS and I need to install some linux distro on it. I found on PCS forum here a user that have installed ubuntu 18.04. The main issue seems a not working trackpad.

Hi @Phoenix1221 , do you have some news about that?

Did PCS get back to you as to when they are planning to release it? I actually wonder how they would do it since their website has no section for downloading new bios, as far as I can tell.

@Phoenix1221 thank you, I also share with you this thread . Maybe could help you someway

I read some stuff about the new bios fixes above all about the power consumption thing and the need to use a 180W power supply. So, if I buy from PCS but flash the bios taken from another source do I will lost my warranty?

What the matter with PCS? Bad assistance? May I ask you what alternative shop can I look for buying this laptop in europe and dont spend more than 1300 euros (this price limit is set here at work by my company)? With PCS I can take it with 16gb and one 1tb dummy drive for 1257 euros

Bad assistance. They will repair you pc only in extreme case. My laptop has a display problem that it's not so annoying. I don't want to RMA it because i'll loose only 3 weeks for nothing.

Dave 2D uploaded a vid yesterday talking about warranty service by various major brands.

The likes of Gigabyte and MSI make it difficult (e.g. no return shipping label) for customers to get things repaired, so even less should be expected from minor "rebranded" brands like PCS (or Scan aka 3XS). I highly doubt any other seller will be any different.

I highly recommend. Great prices and selection for any laptop screen you need.

Although, if you're in warranty period from manufacturer, just complain and ask for a new screen from and than when you receive, remove and send back the defective one for proof.

I had issues with my SSHD showing terrible write results, contacted them about it. Without question PCP sent a replacement drive and I just had to pass the old one to the courier. Think they are good as long as you deal with your own repairs lol. They offered me to send the laptop back in the first place but when I told them it's kind of a lot of extra effort for a hard drive change they said that if I feel confident enough to do the swap on my own they will send a brand new drive. So far I'm satisfied with PCP, wish their driver support was better though.

That is slightly different though. They basically took an off-the-shelf (Seagate) SSHD and install it so any warranty isn't bore by them but the SSHD maker. That's why they are super happy to send you a new drive because they can send the faulty one back to Seagate as "bad stock" (which they have to do regularly anyway).

The screen (and by extension any TongFang-sourced parts) requires basically shipping the entire laptop back to TongFang (likely after having to remove their own off-the-shelf parts) for repair. I'm fairly certain Seagate probably has a repair centre in the UK (or at least Europe), whereas TongFang will require posting it all the way back to the Far East.

    In other words, same-same-but-different.

I'm not ditching any particular seller, it's just being realistic with them. For instance, if I were to buy, I would still pay the £69 (nice number!) for the 3-year PCS warranty (effectively 2-year since 3rd year is labour only and parts are likely to be impossible to find then) but I'm prepared that every warranty claim will be a massive pain in the backside.

PS: if you can avoid it, do NOT buy an expensive SSD (or any other off-the-shelf part) with the laptop. This is a gray area because most SSD has longer warranty than the laptop and not all sellers (if any?) will honor the part warranty separately from that of the laptop.

I had no freeze issues but the diskmark write had 80mb/s and the random writes were abysmal to the scores compared to online results for the firecuda, like 0.4-0.5mb/s

So far my personal experience of Scan has been good - even though both branded laptops I have bought from them have had to go back - one a Gigabyte Aero 15W with a dodgy keyboard, and another an MSI GS63 that was running too hot/badly seated heatsink. In both cases, Scan accepted the RMA promptly and refunded the full purchase price within a few days, no quibble.

I'm currently running a P650HS I got from PC Specialist last year which arrived badly pasted, but their sensible warranty meant i was at liberty to repaste it myself and is now cool and quiet. Had to replace a keyboard due to faulty LED's a year in, but PCS were helpful with the part and support.

I guess your mileage may vary, but actually I personally prefer some of the smaller retailers, they are usually contactable directly rather than through a call centre, and have to work harder on service seeing they don't have the financial clout of the likes of MSI and Asus. Asus in particular I have noticed a very unfriendly "sell and forget" approach to consumers, they normally outsource their repairs in the UK and lack the personal touch.

I've been looking at the Recoil 2 from PCS and the Vengeance Pro from Scan - both Tongfang chassis, but the only thing putting me off is the reported noisy keyboard, which would result in the glare of death from the missus, so not worth the risk !

[IMG] Hello, this is my first post here and unfortunately it won't be praising how good the laptop is. I need to ask you for help.

The laptop just arrived today, and I'm baffled with the issues I've had so far. First of all when I tried installing windows from the either of the usb 3.0 ports it failed in a curious way, the installer claimed there was a drive driver missing, to my surprise I had no issues with the installation from the sole usb 2.0 port. But then Windows decided not to install proper intel video drivers so I couldn't dim my screen.

Now I can't find a way to make that Intel wireless AC9560 work. I tried installing WiFi_20.60.0_PROSet64_Win10 to no avail. Could you please help me out? [IMG]

I had the same issue at the beginning.
For intel graphic driver, i just downloaded the official driver from the website
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27847/Graphics-driver-di-grafica-Intel-per-Windows-10?product=126790

I don't remember how i fixed the wifi, just try this driver
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...reless-Bluetooth-for-Windows-10?product=99446

Remember also to install the Gaming Center Tool

    Hi,
Thank you for a fast reply. I've mitigated the non-dimmable screen issue with the latest Intel graphics drivers already. The Gaming Center Tool is also installed. I'll try the wifi one you've mentioned. Will let you know in a few minutes.
EDIT: unfortunately installing this BT driver didn't help my wifi card :/
    Edit2:
There's this error message in card's properties:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

but my google-fu is too weak and I can't find the solution.

the very first time I installed Windows I had the Wi-Fi driver missing so I just used wired connection to do the windows update and I installed intel driver assistant and let it automatically sort my Intel drivers. For the rest I used the ones provided by PCP. If you don't have an Ethernet cable I can post you the official PCP driver, that works 100% unless you are actually having hardware issues.

I've done the same started the installation with the ethernet plugged in and I'm still on it as the card won't start working. I'm currently trying the solution from https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...2173/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html

but please share that PCP driver you've mentioned maybe there's something I've missed :/

EDIT: aaand after deinstallation of those drivers, clearing temps, and another reboot I'm back at square one with the adapter visible and sporting error code 10.

Oh well no luck for me I guess, this is older than the version I've already got installed. Gonna try it anyway.

EDIT: nope installing this didn't change a thing. I think I will have to put up with this umbilical during the weekend and pay a visit to the guys who sold me this. This seems to be a never ending story :/

Okay, I got this for you as a last resort:

Before you install any of these, uninstall your drivers first, anything to do with networking, I advise you use driver uninstaller software specifically made for this, then install this first:
    PCP LAN driver: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1iRSgnM-r-PkOlHLNfseu8xNp485UnI__
then if nothing, try this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fXBX7p4c3IsBzywMnT1AsRKQee-xz5mQ
If both fail, go here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html <-- Driver assistant worked for me on my second clean install, getting the network and the intel UHD driver at the same time, among other things.

As an extra precaution, run everything as admin. If none of these work, I suspect there is something dodgy going on with the laptop in terms of hardware.

Having had a quick look at your links I think I've already tried all these, definitely the Driver assistant as it is installed on my laptop. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the matter, I'll try to uninstall network and then install again, could you recommend me the uninstaller software, unless you've meant the wizards that come up when uninstalling from the control panel.

Thanks a bunch! Seems like I was just blind as I've been here too, duh lol

Don't bother too much with the uninstaller thing, there is iobit driver booster which cleans your computer of junk driver remnants, but I was mainly thinking of DDU, which only works with display drivers, seems like I was too tired yesterday lol You can just use the wizard, but I recommend a reboot after you got rid of it. I never had your issue so I'm just trying to isolate every little thing that could butt in when you reinstall the drivers. Good luck, report your findings!

What's the fastest RAM the people have been able to get working on this laptop? I understand the official speed is 2400mhz, but was wondering if anyone has tried faster.

Ok I created a Kali Linux usb drive, went to run the live system and it won't even boot up. CPU #5 gets stuck for 23 seconds, or so it says. I looked it up, some other people had the same issue and a bigger power supply actually solved the problem. They had different hardware though but since we are having PSU problems too I think it's very strongly related, if not the same problem. So yeah, I couldn't even get into the GUI to try the trackpad.

    Hi,
No luck this time either. I've uninstalled the network drivers, Windows reinstalled them immediately upon reboot, the Intel Driver Support Assistant just installed the newest version over the Windows ones. I think of clean Windows installation (though hate to do this as I've already set the stuff as I like it to be :/). If this doesn't help I'm going to the seller on Monday.
Please let me know if there's a specific order in which I should be installing the drivers/software I received from the shop who sold me the laptop. Here's the list of the folders:

    01-chipset-windows10.zip
    02-LAN-windows10.zip
    03-CardReader-windows10.zip
    04-MEI-windows10.zip
    05-SerialIO-TP-windows10.zip
    06-Audio-windows10.zip
    08-intel-wifgi-windows10.zip
    gamecenter-windows10.zip
    SoundBlaster-windows10.zip

As far as I remember I've installed them in the order seen above.

I'm almost certain the order won't make a difference. When I was messing with my SSHD I've done a clean install at least 4 times, installed my drivers in different order using different methods, it did not matter the slightest. Something else is in play here. I know it's a pain but try that clean install and if that won't fix it, you will have to return the laptop anyway, so your preferred setup will no longer matter either way :-/. I hope it's just some conflicting thing in windows that will get sorted after a clean install. Best of luck!

Thanks! First I need to partition this drive and move my steam library, don't wanna be downloading these again.

The standard with PCP was a measly 4gb of 2133mhz RAM and the highest option was 2400mhz, so I am not sure above that.

And me clean installation did nothing, the wifi card still has Code 10 error. I'm out of ideas. I did the installation with the ethernet cable unplugged so Windows wouldn't installl the drivers on it's own and that didn't help either, this really seems like a faulty piece of hardware.
Please let me know if it is even possible that the card is recognised by the system but won't work for some hardware reasons?

Also I don't think I'm making some stupid mistake like now having a physical switch in the right position, right? I can't see a physical wifi switch anywhere, is there one?
And I made sure that the the "radio" is on; pressing FN+F4 just disables/enables Bluetooth for me.
