It's mind boggling really. I'm thinking that maybe the wireless unit got assembled poorly so while the system detects it, it is incapable of functioning. I don't know how confident you are but you can try removing the underpanel to access the interior of the laptop and check if the 2 little plugs are connected properly. I'm afraid that is the only hardware check you can perform. It looks similar to the pic in the attachment. It on the right hand side of the laptop next to the battery. [IMG]

Hey Phoenix, thank you for the idea and the picture. I'll wait till Monday and call the seller to check with them and maybe visit their shop if they can't help me remotely - I don't want to open it myself yet as they put a seal on it and might say that I've ruined the wifi by opening the laptop. Darn it, I already like the laptop and now I'm afraid I'll need to return it :/

That is strange, I never had a seal on mine, how are you meant to upgrade storage or ram if it has a seal? Are you meant to return it every time you want to upgrade or even just clean the laptop?

Oh I never mentioned I bought it from a shop in Poland, and not the producer. They buy those laptops in bulk and offer some variety in configuration.
I just read the papers again, they say the seal is there to confirm that the components I chose and paid for are actually inside, and I'm free to break it and tinker with the parts, but doing so I confirm the configuration is alright (meaning all the parts are there). Since I'm not that pressed for time I can wait till Monday and visit the guys myself and have them check it.

    Hello,

i´m new here. I have the Recoil 2 with the 150 PSU from PCS. I put 2x 8 GB RAM with 2666 MHz in it, and its works.

I have a question, where can i find a newer BIOS, it would be great if it be in english.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tZR8aDGxQioPzGo2IHYXjNfEKFGVdjla <--- This is the newest afaik, but please note that this is for the GTX 1060 version ONLY! Also, I know I sound like a broken record, but flash it only at your own risk and I don't know how it affects the warranty. If you want the GTX 1050ti version of the bios, I posted it for one someone else looking for it a few pages back. Though if you went with 16gb of 2666 mhz RAM I get the feeling you didn't hold back on the GPU either :)

Don't worry, Also I had the same problem, look here
Follow this steps and you'll have an huge performance improvement. I reached more then 1210pts in Cinebench.
First of all remove every tuning suite as Intel XTU, Throttling Stop and Gaming Center. (don't leave any configuration ini)
Then go in bios and press F3 (load Optimize Value). Check OTP is at LOW, save settings and restart PC.
Then install Gaming Center (the latest Mechrevo version is the best), XTU or TS or both and set everything.
I advise to use the settings posted by Phoenix1211.

OTP change the max Cpu's TDP. With HIGH OTP you can reach higher performance, but you'll need a more powerful charger (maybe also a 180W isn't enough) and a better cooling system or you will just ruin your battery and have huge throttling issues .

I've been following this thread and found this laptop much interesting. I'm gonna make the purchase soon, probably waiting until back to school promotion hits at the end of summer.

p/s: I live in Singapore and Aftershock (the reseller here) offers 180w psu with GTX 1060 version, just asked them earlier today.

Only Kali as it is the hacking oriented distro, can't be assed to install all the other tools on a different Linux.

    Also...

I escalated the psu issue with a link to this thread to PCP a few weeks back and they said it's been forwarded to the corresponding department but I'm still waiting. I refuse to spend money on a new psu when the standard one should be enough.

I'm oon my way home from the shop, they've replaced that intel card with a killer one. They tried one or two other intel ones and said that they didn't work with my unit despoite being listed as compatible by tongfanng. My laptop is finally fully functional and hopefully stays this way for the years to come :)

Does anybody have PCS bios for 1050ti version? I can't download it from their website because I did'nt bought laptop from them.

There is a device named "High Definition Audio Device" in Device Manager which have a code 10 error. I've installed sound blaster and realtek sound drivers but it didnt solved this problem. Do we have another audio device in this laptop?

I wouldn't say they are, they seemed equally baffled as I. I start to think my unit is effed-up in some subtle way, as I couldn't install Windows using the USB 3.0 port. Has anyone else experienced this USB issue?

So I got my laptop today finally, and in the process of setting everything up and benchmarking things, I noticed a few... concerns.

1.) I ordered a 144hz screen from Eluktronics and things like GeForce Experience and even Windows are listing my screen as 64hz. Any ideas why? Or is this something I'll have to contact Eluktronics about?
2.) Some games dont even seem to be using my dGPU, while others seem fine. Even basic things like the 3D Vision Photo Viewer that seemed to come with my install of Windows 10 isn't working, stating that my Nvidia Display Driver isnt installed, even though I installed it through GeForce experience earlier.
3.) Is there really no way to get this keyboard backlight to just be a solid white?
4.) Is Throttlestop unable to modify Turbo Boost and Max Turbo Boost like Phoenix did in a post? Does that have to be handled by XTU? And likewise, is XTU unable to modify the Core Voltage and Cache Voltage by differing amounts? Or did I miss something? I'm new to underclocking so I might've just missed something.
5.) I have 2 PCI devices in my Device Manager in need of updates, but the manager states they have no compatible drivers. Any idea what's up with that?
6.) Sometimes when I restart my machine, the screen has a glitch where rows of pixels usually an equal distant apart will just be shifted down, or something similar to that. Another restart or even just closing the laptop and opening it up again are usually enough to fix it, but has anyone else encountered this problem?

    1.) As I have a 60hz screen I'm afraid I don't really know what that could be
2.) Same happened to me. It would only work with the old drivers provided by PC Specialists. If I updated it gave me the same problems. The reason behind it was the fact that when the system tried to change input source, basically swapping from Intel to Nvidia gpu, it failed and it would only work with an external display. After I updated the BIOS it started to work as intended. (I also have windows 10 updated)
3.) I tried setting red, green and blue sliders to max as that should be white but it was sort of ivory colour still. So I settled for blue. Don't think white is an option.
4.) I've done everything with ThrottleStop except the GPU tuning which is done by MSI Afterburner. XTU is not necessary at all. ThrottleStop can change multipliers, undervolt, changed turbo boost values. If it won't let you maybe it doesn't have necessary permissions. That's the only thing I can think of.
5.) Hard to tell, try Intel driver assistant or even better, iobit driver booster to find them. Without seeing what drivers are actually in place and working, it's hard to guess what drivers you are actually missing. Is your windows fully up to date?

Well with some internet searches and customer support I solved some of the issues.

1.) A result of me not even having any of my iGPU drivers installed, so I didnt even have access to the Intel Control Panel. 144hz now working as intended. Also probably fixes my Optimus issue since I have a second GPU to switch between.
2.) Assume to be fixed by above.
3.) My Gaming Center might be outdated/not localized well so I'll try using the version I just figured out Eluktronics provides and see if its any better.
4.) I'll look into it then, thank you Phoenix!
5.) I'll also look into this.
6.) Assume to also hopefully be fixed by 1. More use tomorrow will tell.

They really should release a better bios. When I was on PCS bios my computer would go into battery mode while stressing it. With the modded bios the computer is working excellent even on the 150W power adapter.

Hey guys I just noticed one more thing. I've been slowly moving my stuff from the old PC to the laptop, and finally today set it ut so I can work using it instead of the PC (ie use the remote desktop to connect to my PC at work). So my current setup is a 1440p monitor hooked via a HDMI cable and the laptop. Once a mini DP to HDMI arrives I will be attaching the other of my displays (a 1080p one) so I can work the way I used to so far with my PC.

The worrying thing I noticed is that when I close laptop's lid performance seems to drop significantly. I noticed it while watching a YT video which became really choppy while the sound was OK. The same thing happens when I use FN+F3 and choose second screen only. I suspect this behaviour can be somehow mitigated but I have no idea how. The way I imagine myself working once I've got both of my displays hooked to the laptop is with it's lid closed most of the time actually. Can someone please give a clue what to change so that the video performance doesn't drop that drastically? I don't know if if this matters but the external display is set as the primary one in Windows.

I have a question for 1080p ips owners: what is your panel's model and brand? I have a N156HCA-EA1 made by chi-mei and it has medium-level backlight bleed.

Let me know how to check it and I'll ping you the details. For now I can say my has some bleed around the corners. Nothing too bothering but definitely noticeable when displaying all black/really dark scene.

Same exact Chi Mei / Innolux panel. Decently low levels of bleed on mine (I had my integrators cherry pick panels for me), though like any other samples of that panel, it does that weird half backlight thing at extreme low brightness from time to time - though a brightness adjust usually solves it instantly. Also, if you have brightness auto adjust on, turn it off as it supposedly helps (at least on the Aero).

And yeah, this is the same "sometimes okay, sometimes trash" panel the OG (2017) Aero 15/15X shipped with, so it's pretty much a lottery there.

If you have a discerning eye and the dough, you're probably better off with the AUO 144hz upgrade panel, despite the unnecessarily high refresh rate. It has a lot better colour and characteristics vs the Innolux.

Wondering if the 144hz panel is available somewhere solo. I have light bleed around the four corners and the weird thing you mentioned, it doesn't bother me a lot but if the 144hz screen looks better and is more quality, I might have it fitted later on.

    Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum and I just got this laptop. Overall it's great, but I have one issue which I hope can be solved.
I have the 1060 version and I installed my own SSD and RAM, 1x 16gb 2.666mhz from Ballistix.

As I already was afraid of, when I check my system it runs on 2.400 mhz in the BIOS meaning that it does not support the 2.666 mhz. Is that fixable through a BIOS update? Or can I make it run on full capacity although it does not "see" the other .266?

Hope you guys can help me out since I have been checking this forum ever since I ordered it.

EDIT: And I also didn't quite figure out where I could find the PCI and SM-Bus controller driver, would love some help with that as well :(

    Thanks!

you can use hwinfo64 for Windows to check.
I think that half-backlight thing is called "ips glow". it could be normal for ips panels but backlight bleed is a little problematic in night. I think narrow bezels are the main reason for bleed because of pressure.

    Hello neighbor,
    I´m from germany.

normaly it should set it automaticaly to 2.666 MHz. U can test what happen, when u press F3 (load optimized defaults) in the BIOS.

Do we know what the exact model of the 144hz panel is yet?

No, not IPS glow. It's something else entirely. It's like multiple dark streaks coming up from the bottom of the panel, and it only happens at really low brightness settings, and even then occasionally.

Some 2017 Aero 15/15x users have encountered it as well, as I've mentioned before. I've only really seen it once or twice myself but it does happen.

As for the exact 144hz panel, I'm thinking it's the same one used on the Asus GM501 "Value Zeph", considering it's not one of the LGs (and the 5ms AUOs are Asus exclusive for now, so it should be the older, slower 7ms one the GM501 is using).
