Got me sold, the MSI GE63 raider with the RTX 2070 only scores 7k
https://www.funkykit.com/reviews/la...with-geforce-rtx-2070-gaming-laptop-review/5/
The Asus Strix SCAR II GL704 with the RTX 2070 only scores 6.8k
https://www.tech-critter.com/review-asus-rog-strix-scar-ii-gl704-gaming-notebook-rtx2070/
The mech-17 looks like such a good deal now.. Repaste on cpu (liquid metal) and gpu (AS5) is only $35 too. Too bad they dont seem to have warranty in Canada![]()

Any one have info about fan noise ? I’m think of going with this system over the Clevo 16” maxq
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I'm currently waiting on the custom Control Center to allow me full control of the fans, once that's fixed, I'll be able to run the laptop silent most of the time. Even at Turbo mode, the fans are quieter than my Alienware 15. Dave2D has a review unit of the 17, idk when his review will drop.Installed64 likes this.

Is there any fan Controll now ?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
For my 17 unit, the CC software seems buggy rn but the fan controls work.
-
I was curious about the MaxQ 2080 in the 16in too, it seems to be around the same price as the higher end 2070 models from the mainstream brands, heck, cheaper in some cases. Though in the end, I'd prefer a 17.3in screen, and like that 2070 laptops can be had for a good couple hundred dollars cheaper still.. Just wondering if there are any gsync models.
-
Yes the 16” would cost me about 400 more then the 17” 1070 ..
Might not be worth that much money difference ..
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Can you oc the gpu ?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I'm pretty sure Tongfang could have added a RTX 2080 maxq model to the 17 since it has a cooling system better than the Razer Blade. As for wanting G-Sync, modding the nvidia drivers would be necessary. I'm not going to attempt at modding drivers rn but I'm betting on NVIDIA to open up their G-Sync to non-certified monitors including laptop monitors.Techdude594 likes this.

Yes, you have 230w from the power adapter to give you lots of room. One thing that would help the RTX models is newer drivers since currently, it's only 1 driver that work on RTX models. You could get a higher wattage power adapter if you want to force more power. Just need to mod the system to take more wattage.undervolter0x0309 and Techdude594 like this.
-
So do you think an extra 400 is even worth 2080 mq
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
For me, I'm waiting on more benchmarks to figure that out. If someone is able to mod the RTX 2070 on the 17" to somewhere near full desktop wattage and it does a hell load better than the max-q, I don't think the 16" is worth it.
This is showing pretty mixed results.

I saw that they look very close . And I just look the 16” is 600 more
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Yeah, I really dont think the 2080 MQ are worth the money unless you really need the most portable gaming laptop possible.. Like I could see myself getting a GS75 2080 MQ if I was rich af, and had a loaded desktop already but I dont, and would rather pay half that to get a full 2070 in a still reasonably light and thin (as far as gaming laptops go) 17.3in laptop.
-
A few things to note with the 17"
You lose TB3 support since it's 3.1 Gen 1
There is a 2.0 USB port
It's thicker than the 16" but you're getting most likely the best thin and almost light package with a really good cooling solution.
Mechanical keyboard with Brown "Silent Switches" with 2.0 mm of travel, 50 million key presses
The likely hood of having newer screens being made for a 17" is a lot higher including the 240 hz panels to be made.
Battery comes in two sizes, look for the 4 cell version.
5 mm thin bezels, that 16.1" doesn't look like it has the best bezels.
Roughly the laptop is about almost 5 pounds, since the materials are some hard plastic with metal where necessary.Techdude594 and Installed64 like this. -
That’s some really good points .. I don’t care about thunderbolt at all .. money is not so much the issue just don’t want to be wasting it if I’m getting same performance for 600 less

Check my last post.. looks like the 2080MQ would be a bit of waste.
-
That’s what it looks like .. I’m thinking I should cancel my 16” order
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I almost ended up getting the 16in too, glad I looked into things a bit first. I'd cancel if you still can, lots of good 2070 models.
Here's an updated version of my last post with more models http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...enchmark-graphics-benchmarks-by-model.827454/ -
Given the comparisons, the full laptop 2070 is looking like a much better value than the 2080 mq. Thanks for the compilation of results!
The thing we’re not looking at though, is temperatures. Since the 2080mq runs at less wattage you should have a cooler system all around with quieter fans for a more immersive experience.Techdude594 likes this. -
The mq versions seem to be in the smaller chassis only, the bigger chassis like the 17" have more room to breathe, room for extra/different config of heat pipes and potential to run cooler and quieter. Only time will tell on that though, it'll be very manufacturer specific.
Techdude594 and Arondel like this. -
Really hoping that happens. We've already seen G-SYNC become enabled on a few gaming laptops, like the Predator 17X (something like that from what I have heard).
-
I have a question about RAM. I am pretty much certain that my first gaming laptop will be the Mech 17-G1R from Eluktronics with the full RTX 2070. I will be buying this barebones from their website and installing my own RAM and an m.2 SSD. I am wondering if I should go with 2400mhz RAM, or if I should go with 2666mhz RAM. Is the price premium worth it? I would almost exclusively be gaming on this machine, not much else.
-
Given the same thermal solution, probably. Issue here is that standard versions of the RTX GPUs and their Max Q counterparts are rarely alternatives for the same chassis
-
True!
@Techdude594 Why get one of the best imaginable CPU+GPU's in a laptop then settle for less than the best RAM? I say go with 2666MHz, or some of the low latency stuff if possible. Especially since we are not talking about a big difference in price. -
The asus and msi were not overclocked hence the lower scores
-
Owners of the TongFang 17inch RTX 2070 could you be so kind and send me a link to download the bios of you machine please?!?
Need to see if we can mod it to work on the 15 model and increase the TDP of our gimped 2070 MQ.
As fellow Tongfang Troopers I know I can count on you.
PS: I also I'm waiting for a fix to update the nvidia drivers on the 15 inch. Nvidia haven't added the TongFang system to their compatibility list in their drivers yetTechdude594 likes this. -
You are right! Problem is, I can't seem to find too many 16GB dual channel 2666 RAM kits on Amazon. Do you know of any good ones?
-
Get the HyperX 2666mhz CL15 kit. Everyone raves about it, I have it too. Good timings and 100% compatibleInstalled64 and Techdude594 like this.

I've heard good things about this RAM, thanks for the advice!

Has any figured out the driver issue

The TongFang laptops have not been added to the nvidia driver compatibility list yet so it looks like ts up to the oem to send us a "fixed" driver till we are able to use the official nvidia released ones
It really sucks. Official support for RTX Max-Q starts with 418.81 I believe and we cant run the damn thing!Techdude594 likes this. -

So how do we get the new drivers

The best option I can come up with is using Mechrevo's drivers (gaming company owned by Tongfang), I'll have to find them since only the Chinese version of the site has them.

I don't know, it's the latest version Tongfang has enabled for the laptops.

Yeah its the same size as the one I previously downloaded, same name and *.zip. The 418.81 got a fairly decent increase in size

I hope this gets fixed soon .

I have the Overpowered Gaming Laptop 17". Would anyone have the latest BIOS? Currently on stock N1.04 and I believe can't use the one for 15"? I get a BIOS error about platform name is different. Looking to Hackintosh the system.
Techdude594 likes this. -
Why can't you use current bios for hackintosh? Can't you disable secure boot on your version?
-
I've disabled security boot, but I cannot seem to get to the installer screen. I've used the EFI install folder that I found on Reddit specifically for the OP Gaming Laptop, but I read that should use a newer BIOS than the one I currently have in order to get to the install menu.
-
Is any one else having issues with the controll center ? Mine will not install ?

Do you guys have access to the bios of the 2070 17 inch of any oem?
I was able to extract the vbios of my 2070 MQ so you should have no issues.
Owners of the RTX 2070 17 inch version please save the vbios with GPU-Z I send me over the file. I want to try and flash it on my 15 inch.
Thanks!!!Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -
