Where'd you order from?
-
Ive order it in parts, its much cheaper -
Mine is coming in today. Joy.
-
Man all you guys with the low res screen make me sad... I ordered a while ago and I'm still waiting...
-
Got it! On it right now (in WinXP installing the drivers from the Sager DVD). I know there are better drivers out there on the net, but the problem is that there were no drivers at all for the network devices. Lastly, I can't tell what make/model of the devices to know what to look for (especially the wired NIC) until after installing the drivers from the CD.
Anyways, the only glaring thing I don't like about it is the bright blue LED on the power button. It's very blinding and distracting. -
Cheerio, I've just got called from my home that 'my package' has arrived ^_^ cant wait till i'm home
-
Spoke too soon. After installing WinXP and all the drivers, I did a reboot and the laptop just sat there with a blank black screen. The power button didn't respond (not even after holding it down). Had to remove power to it to shut it down (battery and AC).
Once i did that, though, it could never power back on. No lights, no sounds, nothing. This morning, I called tech support and they say to try to clear the CMOS. Gonna do that when I get home from work.
What a bad first experience. I hope it's just a fluke.
Will update. Though technically the wait for me is over... I shouldn't be posting here.
Though a bit secondary, anyone know how to remove the power/touch panel? I want to see if I can insert a few pieces of paper between the bright blue LED and the lens on the power button to diffuse the bright light a bit. Did this on MANY devices that have blue LEDs and it works wonderfully. -
The jumper didn't work, so per PowerNotebooks tech, I have to wait for a call from Sager. Sounds like RMA out of the box.
-
Add me to the list of people waiting for this particular model.
I just ordered October 1st and just hope it will arrive by November. =) -
I've also been patiently waiting for any good news to come from PNB.com regarding the IFL90s (1680x1050 screens). I placed my order 9/2/07 and it seems like instead of getting closer to getting my laptop, I'm getting farther and farther away from it as more parts go on backorder.
I'm basing this on the fact that the wireless cards for the IFL90 (the a/g/n cards) are now on backorder too (PNB's site lists them as backordered until mid-October).
I'm just hoping that the screens and the wireless cards come in around the same time so that maybe my laptop will arrive prior to the end of the month. -
....Does that mean that if I order mine now I'll receive it in one month??? Awww I need a laptop sooner.... I'll go with one of those then: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834224075 ... Did anybody have ever hear anything about that brand?
-
As far as when you'd receive one if you ordered now, the last thing I'd seen was that the laptops with the 1280x800 screens were shipping and it's just the 1680x1050 screens that remain on backorder. Also, for the IFL90 laptops from PNB.com, the a/g/n wireless cards appear to be on backorder as well until mid-October (I switched my order last night to the a/b/g wireless card so I'd be able to get my laptop by the end of this month). -
-
That's interesting news, WXGA+ really is in stock now? I thought PNB had removed that from the customizable options due to uncertain ETAs regarding that resolution.
-
It's there, and I just noticed they removed the 1680x1050 ???
PNB here -

Yeah, the WXGA+ is in stock, but I'm not sure how many Powernotebooks has. It arrived at my house yesterday, but I'm at college now so I won't get to open it until this weekend.
-
I hate to say this but with how this pre-order is going... This is *$&#ing b*ll**** and I'm sorry for saying this. It's worse than ordering a Xecuter 3 right after it got released and being on the back of the line, or the Xtender or whatever the LCD replacement part was also. They had bad delays but not like this. Oh there coming. Now they aint. I dono when there gona be in. Next week... Next week... Next week... For crist sake. Update us here or on your website. It's not f*&^ing fun waiting for some crap while your holding on to failing equipment that needs to be sent RMA because you need the damn thing for school.
PS. Sorry for the rant this is bullcrap -
There is a huge difference in price between the Sager and the PowerPro, even though they are the same laptop. Also, the PowerPro has the screen I originally wanted.
1440x900 is perfect for a 15'4" (for my eyes anyways).
Lastly, the price definately dropped a bit. I wonder for those who paid in full (and who didn't?) and still waiting - are you going to just shrug it off? After all, you guys paid in full but still waiting for a product that had a bit of a price drop. Like waiting on an iPhone that you pre-ordered (just an example - iPhones never got back-ordered, lol) at the original price and then getting it after they dropped the price 3 months later. -
Hehe off topic but screw the iPhone! OpenMOKO all the way!!! =P Neo1973 looks so much cooler and is open source! Even though the iPhone is nice they took all the moding done on firmware 1.0 and killed it in 1.1...
-
Yea, slay, that IS offtopic.
But I'm still wondering how the people who pre-ordered and paid in full feel about the price drop.
-
There's examples of this in everything sold on the free market, i.e. buy a week early and miss out on some rebate. It happens, what can you do?
My reasoning in overcoming buyer's remorse is set a budget, buy what you need, and be happy if you feel you got a good deal. Personally I was feeling pretty bad about spending $1600-$1700 on a NP2090 when that X205 BB deal came out, but whatever. I'm pretty confident I got an extremely capable laptop for my needs (college and light gaming) and I'm happy with that.
Now, to get it physically in my possession... -

All orders are price protected until the ship date. If the price is less on the ship date simply ask for a refund of the difference.

Oh, and thelazyone22, please take the profanity out of your signature...no one here appreciates seeing it -
Hmm, didn't know about the refund thing. Oh well. -
Why are you laying down so easily? Feels like there lots of people just taking whatever others shovel in their face. -
Either way, the Compal is a pretty sharp laptop and mine has been and is still going strong. Disappointing to hear about some having bad experiences out of the box, though. Unfortunate. LZ1, sad to hear you are still waiting, too? Hopefully the wait will end soon.
- Vr/Zeuxidamas.> -
I don't think I'm laying down "so easily" to anything, so please don't accuse me of that. Personally, I think I may have paid an extra $100 or $150 for my laptop when I could have found a "better" deal somewhere else (the BB X205 comes to mind). But the fact of the matter is I received excellent support, my laptop within a month, and paid reasonable prices for everything. My transaction was perfect as far as I was concerned even if I could have shaved off a couple hundred somewhere else.
Anyway, that was my experience. You should see my back and forth emails/PMs, mainly concerning a screen upgrade. I don't feel "jacked" or had anything "shoveled" at me in any way.
Man, I can't wait to put some games on my new lappy and blow off all my homework... -
if anyone is still waiting for SagerNP2090/Compal IFL90 might want to check with zipzoomfly.com. they have WSXGA+ screens, 512MB video, and wireless-n. and you can DIY without having to order OS if you want. prices are pretty good too: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/NBmicro/BIYConfig.html
-
Just know that if you're uncomfortable with computer parts, DIY might not be the best option, especially if you mess up.
I've made desktops before, but never a laptop, and even I would probably hesitate at the notion of making my own laptop through disassembly and reassembly within such a tight frame myself. A lot of work just to save a few bucks and a compromised warranty if you were to mess up. -

The barebone has been made easy for you to install components onto, and all compartments are all at the bottom.
The critical parts:
1. CPU core - Since the dye isn't protected with a metal cover like those desktop processors, it is prone to destruction (e.g. crashed edge) if you do not install the heatsink with proper care.
2. Wireless - If the barebone's antenna is not pre-wired for you, then you will have to hook the antenna wires from the wireless mini card at the bottom chassis to each side of LCD panel (there are 2 wires, black & white) which works like a signal collector.
3. TV Tuner Card - This is probably the hardest part since you may have to cramp the card along with its data wire through the little space in the chassis.
Just my 2 cents. -
I don't mind building it, I'm sure that I could, it's just if afterward finding a problem with the unit itself would be so frustrating, because it would mean a complete rebuild!
-
Now we now what's it feels like when giving birth. -
IMO ... assembling the Compal 4090/IFL90 was much easier than desktop. the motherboard is already assembled, the power supply is an external brick, and the graphics card is pre-installed. you install memory, HDD, wireless, and CPU. the toughest part is the small connectors for wireless antenna. if you have any doubts how easy it can be check out this assembly video ... was really helpful: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/NBmicro/BIYConfig.html click on "see the video" or "view the PDF" in lower left
-
not the same model but also a really good DIY notebook video from Tom's Hardware on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWuqkWAYDkc
-
-
Way easier. take off a few covers and everything is right there at your finger tips. no cables to try and hide. even more lego like than desktop and most components only have one possible installation location.
and if your desktop motherboard was/went bad you'd have to take out all the components and rebuild anyway. no difference except notebook is faster build ... especially if you have a magnetic screw driver. my last notebook build took <10 minutes to assemble. -
The IFL90 is also very easy to access the CPU, which makes it much easier than a desktop build. My least favorite part is installing the mobo and hiding wires.
-
I got my IFL90 today! Very excited! I got a question tho, the box says FL90/FL91, is that right? and also how do I fix my Windows XP to read my Dual Processors? I tried the hotfix and didn't work...
-
Are you sure you have SP2? XP is supposed to 2 two cores natively... If not try to see if there isn't any driver on the intel site.
