Well you must have a better contact in OCZ than I do, Rob. Mine has to ask someone else for the answer to every question I have.

Do we get all three colors (or more?) in the keyboard or we only get to choose one?

They may or maynot, those photos may just be of a generic keyboard to display the colors. All the current models i have seen that have a full size keyboard with a number pad are always one piece. As soon as it arrives in a week or two i will confirm all and the functions of the keyboard. -

Updates:
#1: The product manager is finally back. So far the only answer I have is to the LCD manufacturer question that I believe was posted by MICHAELSD01: they're made by LGI should be receiving an email from the PM with answers to all the other questions tomorrow.
#2: As of Friday, August 29th, the laptop is still in testing and still doesn't have a solid release date.
#3: The OCZ DIY notebook department has announced a 17" DIY notebook that will be coming out soon. It's specs and info are available at http://www.ocztechnology.com/produc..._notebook-small-amd-athlon-64_platform-small_ -

The mobile extreme quad core is supported out of the box on this OCZ model. This is confirmed by OCZ and is one of their key selling points. -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
We just need to find someplace to buy it from
. Hopefully OCZ will be stocking it.

When the Mobile Quad's are in the channel they will be available...................

They were released over a week ago by Intel. No supplier I'm affiliated with said they had placed or were planning on placing any orders.

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i cant wait for dark smiley to get his test machine. im going to make my decision between this with 2 ati's in crossfire or a sager 5796 with 1 9800M GT.
hopefully we'll know by thursday, and no later by friday, as im hoping to order it as early as possile. -
[email protected] Company Representative
OCZ is not shipping these till 09/08-09/12, that was their last eta as of Friday 08/29
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
yea i know but dark smiley said hes getting his test machine this week, so by thursday or friday ill preorder it, if i like how it looks.
-
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to see this computer "in person" as it were.
-
Does it have problems with crossfire on xp or vista?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
And for those of you that asked before, I should probably state this again: we do now offer custom painting & skins -
Just a random question about skinning/painting, DarkSmiley:
How much would a carbon fibre (skin or paint I don't know how you'd do that) cost on all the surfaces of the Criterion? Well obviously without the bottom, but all the other surfaces.
Thanks -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
I'm going to guess around $175, but I'll call the company we're partners with tomorrow and see what the actual price would be. Probably less.
-
hmmm, I might also be interested in painting the notebook. Would it be possible to custom paint the entire palmrest only?
-
[email protected] Company Representative
I would not suggest painting this model, it will void the manufactures (OCZ) warranty. This has been confirmed by the manufacture............. -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
According to the information I received from OCZ, their warranty text isn't finalized yet (as of 8/29). And yes, it would be possible to paint just the palmrest.
-
I'm guessing it would probably void the warranty if painting it actually requires pulling out the palmrest, but we'll see. I'm still waiting for the test system to come to see how this thing performs (and how it improves upon my Alienware M9750)
.
-
hey darksmiley, your customization page shows that you have to choose an option for colour for the keyboard.
does that mean that there will only be one colour?
or will you be able to get all three?
and is there some program to with the backlit keyboard? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
OCZ is also not the only importer of this from Arima. There are a few other's bringing this model in directly from Arima. There wouldn't be any problem painting the notebook as long as the seller warranties the work.

Shane@DARK. Company Representative
I'm going to guess that either CyberPower, Digital Storm, or (if they decide to offer it) Alienware or one of the big boutiques might offer it directly from Arima/Flextronics, since they won't talk to you unless you're planning on buying something like 250,000 units.

I know its a Sager, but this seems to be in Black
which is what im lookin for
Please post some pics front back side, etc
thxs -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Sorry, Lord Vader, but nobody has real pictures yet, since nobody actually has a model of the laptop in their hands. But there are pictures available on these sites:
odd side view: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/images/M171.jpg
back ports: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/images/M172.jpg
front ports/cd bay: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/images/M173.jpg
left side ports: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/images/M174.jpg
right side ports: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/images/M175.jpg
massive picture of open laptop without backlit keyboard on: http://www.flextronics.com/arima/pim/Pp174-1.jpg
I'll get real pictures up (not Photoshopped) once I get the notebook in my hands.
And it's an Arima, not a Sager -
hmmm..... I believe we are all aware of this....
Ban me if you will, but you had to chime in.... -

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
o okay, well if it gets shipped this week, you should have it sometime next week right?
you said that you'd phone and may have a feeling that it may be wrong. if it is, than i have alot to think about, i need to preorder by mid next week and if you dont recieve it (as by being told the wrong info) then i have to choose to take a leap of faith on this or a sager.
i just hope you recieve it very soon so i can see some pics and tests.
and about the keyboard thing, i thought that we were able to toggle the different colours on the keyboard, just like with the alienwares. i know that we cant have all colours on at once, but thought we could change through the different colours.
i also dont know if this was answered, but what sort of screen is on this thing? whats the make and are there any reviews of the screen on other models. is it a good quality screen? i dont really know anything about laptop screens, and just thought it would be good to know. -

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
o alright i guess i didnt see that post or didnt remember seeing it. i also dont know much about lg, but am about to look into them.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
@ dark smiley
i would like to change between the colours from time to time, so it would be a good thing to have. i dont know much about all the programming stuff, but is it hard to change the colours in the bios? is there a 3rd party program that can do it easily like alienware has its command center thing. if its easy to change the colours, i wouldnt mind doing it. -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
It wouldn't be hard, it would just be slightly inconvenient. There won't be a program to unless I coded it myself, and I'm not into that
But you should be able to easily do it in the bios. Don't you worry -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
oh okay thats good to know, now just waiting for the benchies

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
At a curiousity, if someone could design a nice looking application that controlled the keyboard lights, around how much would you be willing to pay to exclusively offer it
?
-
Yeah, something like what was seen in Dell QuickSet. I'm pretty sure OCZ would provide a program like that with this chassis. After all, they'll need a Driver CD for the chipset/controllers for it.
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
We'll see. If they don't, well, I guess I can see what michaelsd01 can offer. PM me
