Not necessary. From what I've been told, you can change the backlit colors on the fly. You can toggle between the 3 colors available to your delight and taste.

OCZ just said I could change it in the BIOS. As of yet, I don't know if they're including any software to do this from the OS. Besides, a custom program wouldn't just change, it could do other features with the lights as well
(can you tell I've been talking to michaelsd01 about this? haha)
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Yeah, it can really add a lot to the Criterion. I can tell DarkSmiley is just teasing you guys with it, so I won't say too much
.

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
yea there should be lots of possibillities... the program that runs the dell's fx lights can play along with music (search on youtube) it looks really cool.

And we established this; just discussing on how to change them, whether there will be a program included or if the BIOS is the only way
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
The software that I would release exclusively on the Criterion would expand that further to do more than just change colors, especially if it's only changeable through the BIOS. It'll be the most advanced software for controlling a backlit keyboard ever on any laptop, and probably even a desktop. I don't think I should say more than that
... With the software, features will increase and get better over time, though I can't exactly say why. It'll be very user-expandable and easy to control

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
o okay so if you make a program for dark smiley, would he ship the program on the computer or will it take too long and give us a download link or ship a cd later?
im just wondering as im very bored right now -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
It depends on the time between me getting the data to him and the systems shipping from OCZ. If it takes him longer to design the program, the units not pre-installed will get a download link.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
We're discussing it now. There's still no official release date, so it's hard to say. I think that I could design, test, and optimize the program to be up to my standards (a quick concept could take less than a week, but I want to bring it past the alpha stages when it's released) in 2-3 weeks. If I have the basic program done with a good UI when DarkSmiley starts building their systems, I could release it to them without the advanced effects and then work on perfecting the effects. Some thought does have to be put into how the effects work and I would want to find the perfect timings for each effect before it's released, so that might take a little while. I'm definitely looking to expand the software after that, too, any updates to the software should be available online to anyone that owns the Criterion.

Shane, I see no Intel Robson option on your configuration page. Do you not offer it? It's good to see you finally offering skins and custom painting. Nice touch.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
wouldnt you need a test machine to test and work on it, meaning itll take alot longer until you can actually work on it or is there some other way you can work on it without actually having the computer?

micaelsdo1, will you ffer your programto non-criterion owners maybe nagamaki owners??
And Shane, Are u going to do an in depthreview the criterion? -
[email protected] Company Representative
Yes it does, now with the 2GB and 4GB modules. We just received the 4GB modules in last week and what a difference they do make with app loading. Now user pinning is available on these so you can pin the app(s) of your choice to the module. -
Oh god. If I hadn't just built my desktop... (but I'm more than happy with it lol) I'd have already placed my pre-order.
If this is anything like the W835-DI (Alienware m9750), build wise, chassis quality, cooling, it should be well worth anyones money.
Bye bye m17x, bye bye m1730, heck even the Sager np5796 looks like it can be bested, price+performancewise... -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
And I'll give out the numbers and my thoughts, but you should never trust a review from someone who's trying to sell you the laptop. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
ok so how much of a performance increase? also, is it easy to buy and add it in later?
and im just wondering noclue, whats the best deal you can give me on this? dark smiley gave me an amazing price and id just like to compare the two.
i only upgraded;
the processor to t9400 2.53 GHz
upgraded to the 2 ati' 3870's
160GB 7200RPM HD
wifi 5300
vista premium
with all of this, it comes to $2367.65
now dark smiley gave me a price, including a 40$ off and - 3% for using a cheque. i also live in canada so he charged me 59$ shipping. im not going to tell you his price until i get one from you, so its not too biased.
thanks in advance, you can pm me if you want. -
Hopefully, the benchmarks for the Crossfire 3870 vs. 9800GTX will come out very soon. Sitting on the sidelines is killin' me.

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i just got terrible news about my budget, and with the dollar being lower now, i dont think i can afford the 2 ati's
, my budget went from 2600$ to 2400$, and since the dollar is lower, itll be about 120 - 150$ more, making it be about 2600$ + with taxes and everything. i might now just order it with an 8800, or get a sager.
<on a side note, shane, when you send it, can you declare it as a laptop for around 500$ (or lower)?? then it could work out as i would only have to pay about 150$ in taxes -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Nope! Because #1 UPS won't fully insure it, and #2 I think think that's illegal!
-
Okay so let me get this straight, we can have one of you configure a laptop from these parts and sell it to us? Will it have any type of warranty with it?
(I'm looking for a nice laptop ~$2000 or less) -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Go to any page on my site and click on the WARRANTY INFORMATION link for my warranty. Other retailers also have their warranties available on their sites.
-
Wow,
Is this the one that's 'available for pre-order', or is it available now?
I'm hoping to buy in less than a month, (and this looks like a great deal). -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
it's available for pre-order at the moment, and will be shipping sometime this month.
-
[email protected] Company Representative
OCZ will be offering a manufactures 2 year and 3 year extended warranty on the chassis as well. Currently pricing is not available on their extended warranty but will be available on 09/12. -
can i buy this as a whitebook from anyone without anything installed? just the lcd and gpu?
-
Hello all,
i'm very interested in this white notebook,
at the moment it's my notebook and i need it for work,
so i have to buy it as soon as possible
but i'm in Italy, do u know of any reseller based in Europe?
thanks -
yeh, there is notebookguru.de, but none of the european resellers stock the whitebook.
sorry -
really?
no one have the white book in Europe ?
so only American resellers?
alternatively someone could ship it in Italy? -
Will the whitebook be available directly from OCZ and others to end users or only distributed through systems builders?

How will the warranty work on the barebone system?
-
The link to your warranty is gone for some reason.
- The barebone laptops sold by Dark Smiley Systems, LLC (hereby referred to as "Dark Smiley Systems") are warranted for one year after their original shipping date.
- Does not cover dead pixels on the LCD screen, unless there are six or more dead pixels
- his warranty also does not cover any damages incurred while shipping. These damages are deemed the fault of the shipping service provider. However, all Dark Smiley Systems orders are shipped with insurance, so damages may be compensated by contacting the shipping service provider themselves.
Dark Smiley themselves are warranting the bare bones? -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
I might not be allowed to link back to my site. And yes, we are warranting the barebones through OCZ. So, in reality it is fixed by OCZ, but you do that through us.
Correction: the warranty says unless there are five or more. And unless you buy a no dead pixel warranty, I don't know of any laptop manufacturer out there that will replace a laptop LCD that has less than five dead pixels. 1-4 is okay by industry standards. -

darksmiley is now banned?? if you can still send me a pm lmk or ill call you
-
Zfactor. Thank you for making that bootable usb stick thread. It is good. I used it.
-
Anyone know why DarkSmiley got banned?
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
why did he get banned? did he do something or is it a mistake? answers???????
-
Wow that's just weird. How do you ban a notebook retailer??
-
I'm also curious as to why this happened...
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
He's banned because NBR thought he was advertising the Criterion too much with the link in his signature and by posting links when people ask. That's why the link is removed on the first page. It's only a temporary ban, though, he'll be back in three days.
-
I hope I don't get banned for saying this, but that's just retarded.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
yea it is, hes very helpful and everyone in this thread is interested in the computer. and who cares if hes advertising it too much (which he wasn't) hes just trying to get his new business up and running.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
does he have any new updates on the preorders and if they have been shipped yet?
