Is the IFL90 going to have a similar wait time to the S96J of last year? I remember when I joined here, it was all the rage and nobody had it in stock...

will it be possible to switch the positions of Fn key and Ctrl key to the normal "Ctrl at the outside" version? at least it will be possible to switch it with a software unlink thinkpad T60w right? believe it or not, I sold my T60w for two reasons, one being that irritating misplacement of Ctrl key, another being the horribly weak sound of T60.

It is very hard to predict the wait time or how many will arrive in the first shipment, as Donald says. :( I am sure these units will be selling very quickly.

I am sorry we don't have any information on switching the key positions at this time.

I think we understand that you can't predict availablity at this point. We'er just excited to get our machines.

We appreciate how you keep us informed. I'm sure you'e tired being asked if its going to be a GT or GS, DDR2 or DDR3 etc. We appreicate your patients with us, we'll try to be patient with those things beyond your control.

Are the preorder prices shown at PowerNotebooks and XoticPC a lock? Or could they change depending if the graphics card is a GT/GS? If current pre-order prices are a lock what are the chances they prices would go up or down based on the graphics card?

It looks to me like prices are on the rise. I'd assume those that have pre-ordered have a lock on that price, right?

    Hey everyone
I've been poking around these forums and like most people here, I'm very interested in the Compal IFL90. From what I gather, it seems more likely than not that the 512vram version will be a GT so I'm very tempted to buy. However, I'd really like to wait for a review or something, but I fear that if I wait too long then there will be too many orders and I wouldn't get the laptop by the time college starts. What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Brian

No the price will stay the same (I believe). I emailed Justin earlier and this is what he said:

"The pricing should remain right inline as it is now."

All pre-orders are also price protected if the price goes down...you get the lower price, but if the price goes up your price stays the same.

Those who have pre-ordered have their prices locked in as long as they don't change their order. You can still change your order and keep your same place in line, but it will bring your pricing to the current pricing.

If I don't order the car adapter when I purchase the IFL90 can I order that at a later date through your website?

Sorry for the late answer. I realy haven't been much on the internet the last 10 days.

Yes, I got it confirmed. It was right that IFL90 was delivered with matte screen. BUT: This was just a part of the first batch. From a few days ago and from then is it just delivered with the glossy screen. The matte screen is just not possibel to get say Multicom.

Another thing: Multicom have released IFL90 in to models: IFL90+ and IFL90 (replacement of HEL80i). IFL90+ have the possibility of both WXGA and WSXGA+ monitor and 6 and 9 cell battery. IFL90 does just come with the WXGA monitor, and for now just 6 cell battery although the model will maybe have the coice of 9 cell later.

The interesting thing is: IFL90+ have 512mb graphic memory, and IFL90 have just 256mb. BUT BOTH OF THEM HAVE THE 8600M GT!

And one more thing: They have also started selling the IFT00. And may start shipping it already this week! :D

That's going to be a little hard since consumers don't have one of these laptops in their hands. And the people that do have probably signed something to prevent them from spilling the beans...

osso002 is correct. No one has the production models in yet to test, and any testing done on the pre-production models is not relevant.

In this forum you don't have to ask...there will be a wave of posts with these results shortly after this model begins shipping in the next couple of weeks.

That is what I was afraid of :(

Well, we will keep pushing them from this end...but you would think they could just look at the numbers to see that the WSXGA+ matte is the most popular screen by far.

Bye the way, we have one of them left for the PowerPro L 8:15.

lovely, another hope of a 8600GT in a 14.1" notebook dashed, card's as bad as the one in the asus A8SC. What's up with manufacturers this time around?

Just get a Zepto, they seem to be the only ones putting a 8600mGT in a 14.1' machine. The only other hopes are for either the Asus F8 (depending on how the HD 2600 performs) or some kind of an A8js refresh/update.

As far as I know, taxes are light, which sort of makes up for the customs. The price after shipping and customs would be similar to prices paid with VAT in the UK. At least, this is what I've gathered after talking to a UK representative.

As for servicing, honestly I've never had a laptop serviced under warranty, and I'm not that worried about it. The only problem would be getting parts, if something on the notebook died.

i feel like with gaming notebooks you have to be more careful about having warranty. my old clevo had been serviced 3-4 times. with added heat from the high powered gpu, there is an added component to contribute to the deterioration of the internal components.

odin243, I am sure your opinion would change if you did have to send it to the US from Canada, or the UK, for repair. You have been lucky if you have never had to have your laptop repaired, and luckier still that you would know how to install motherboard level parts...most people would not.

It may seem like a good idea to buy outside of your own country, and if you are as lucky as odin243 has been it will work out fine...but my grandaddy taught me years ago to never make a bet that I could not afford to lose.

What are the odds that the WXGA will come with a GT graphics card? Will there be a noticeable difference between the WXGA and the WSXGA+?

We have to be very close to knowing the exact specs for the US models, don't we? It appears that other countries have started recieving shipments. Do we have a more specific ETA than mid june?

Question 2- Yes. A big differences. Clearer and more detailed.
Donald, its mid-June, when will these ship? Is there even an official date yet? Im really wanting one.

Shipping has been delayed until late June...but it is now CONFIRMED that the WSXGA+ will have the nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB on-die DDR2.

The WXGA will have the nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS with 256MB on-die DDR2.

I know, and it probably wouldn't be a good idea for most people, but I've never seen a (fixable) laptop problem that I couldn't fix. In the end, it just comes down to the fact that right now there is no laptop on the horizon for the U.S. market that comes even close to what I need. No one else is releasing something comparable to the Znote, except possibly the F8 (though I doubt it will get comparable graphics to the 8600GT.)

A notebook with a maximum footprint of about 10" by 14" (approximately). I've figured that this means a 14.1" notebook or smaller. Also it has to be able to gaurantee me 2 1/2 hours of basic use (text editing mostly) with the largest battery. Those are my requirements for school. However, I want to get only one computer, so this notebook will also have to have the absolute best graphics available on a 14.1" notebook. Right now that's the 512mb 8600mGT. I wouldn't mind a little less performance than this, but I'm not willing to go down to GS levels.

Hmmm, why the restriction to a 10"x14" footprint? Do you have a case that is limiting you to this size?

No, the limitation comes from my engineering lab classes, where I would have to carry around my notebook and have limited desk space.
