2, I think.

GlueEater is correct, it has 2 SODIMM slots and can accommodate up to 4GB of memory.
-
ah this is killing me!
I bought my HEL80 not too long ago
it's so sexilicious...but if i just waited...
lol. But i couldn't really wait i didn't have a computer at the time.
I'm wondering...should i wait for the ifl90 to release and then try to
sell my hel80? I'm afraid no one will buy it cause they'll be like, pffftt, ill just
buy the ifl90 for the same price. should i wait to sell? It'd probably be
smart to keep my hel80 and get the ifl when i can afford it..but i'm
a dick when it comes to having the most up to date gadgets, and
obviously the ploy here is the santa rosa and the 8600. Mmmmm my mouth is watering. -
I understand your pain. If its any consolation, it doesn't sound like Santa Rosa is leaps and bounds better than that what you have. You could wait until DirectX10 games come out and upgrade then.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
I sure wouldn't sell it now. Like Donsell says, wait until DX10 games are out, Vista is more mature, and buy a new laptop then, or even make the next generation your next laptop and buy it when it first comes out.
I understand the desire to always have the latest gadgets, but you would be buying a new laptop every 6 months to a year that way (of course please understand that we would have no objection to that). Better to time you next one for next Spring when whatever follows the IFL90 first comes out, and then just buy a new one as each new generation comes out every 9 months to a year...or settle in to a 2 year buying cycle and face the fact that you will have the latest gadgets every 2 years instead.
-
hmm yea, im thinking after the winter holidays would be a good time to buy.
-
Hello Donald,
I planned on buying a HEL80 from you guys around christmas, but didnt feel I needed to. Now my crappy computer's PSU has died, and Im not putting any more money into it.
If I want to pre-order the IFL90, do I have to pay now? Or can I pay once they are ready to be built?
Steven -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
After the Winter holidays will be close to End of Life for the IFL90, so since you already have a great HEL80 I would wait until Spring or so when the next generation is released. Otherwise you will repeat what you did this time...buying toward the EOL of the model instead of its initial release.

I understand
Just not sure which config I'll have the money for in July. I will just wait and hope
Stev -
Maybe this information have been posted earlier, but I just don't have the time to read all the threads now. Anyway:
Multicom (in Norway) shipped the first models of IFL90 (or IFL90+ as multicom as named it) this friday. The most lucky ones wil get it already tomorrow (monday here in Norway). I'm expecting my model to arrive tuesday, but sure are hoping for tomorrow
Just can't wait!
EDIT: I meant I somewhere here read who was producing the Zepto models 6625/6224. But I can't find it. Anyone who now where I find it? (Someone said in a norwegian forum that these models was compal models and I need this info to prove that this isn't right...)
- Amund -
The ODM for those models is Inventec.
-
How many slots are there for RAM? 2?
Stev -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
For complete detailed specifications for this model please go to http://www.powernotebooks.com/specs/PowerPro/j10-15.php where you will find there are indeed 2 memory slots.

Thanks Donald.
I dropped you an email as well concerning pre-orders

thanks for the rep donald, and your welcome.
Any new info yet on shipping price? I cant wait... If I do order one, it will be within the next 2-3 weeks. Are there a lot of preorders? Is shipping going to be backed up at all?
Thanks -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes there are several hundred pre-orders.
There is no way to estimate your shipping date until you place your order, but within 2-3 weeks they should start to ship within a few days of placing your order...but we just can't tell for sure until we get all the pre-orders filled and see what is left, and when the next shipment will be coming in. -
Donald -
Xotic is saying first orders should ship June 22. Can you give a similar timeframe? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
We will begin shipping either before, or at the same time Xoticpc does...when that will be is still an open question.
While I admire Xoticpc's optimism unfortunately at this time I cannot share it. -
Thank you. I know you'll keep us up to date. I'm just excited.
-
donald, do you believe that anyone who placed a pre order will recieve their laptop before july 4th? and was it first come first serve with the pre-orders aswell?
-
While I can't say for certain as only Donald would know, I don't THINK he knows the exact date the IFL's will come in, so it would be hard to tell when the laptops would get there. I also believe that the pre orders are going to go out in the same order they were paid for.
Feel free to correct me Donald, just going off of what I (think) i've heard. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Right on both counts aeauvian...thanks for helping out
Now, we thought about putting all the orders in a hat and shaking them up and then pulling them out at random to see who shipped first...but we decided to just stick with first come first serve because we couldn't find a hat anywhere. -
hahaha thanks

Shipping update:
Limited supplies of the WSXGA+ version should start shipping at the very end of June.
The WXGA version should start shipping shortly before the WSXGA+. -
Also, if you know off-hand, how many of the preorders are the wsxga+ version?
Thanks a bunch -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Limited supply is meant to indicate that if you ordered early you should expect yours to ship by the end of the month, but due to the limited supply all pre-orders will not be shipping the first week, so be ready to be patient until your number comes up. In addition, we can only build so many everyday, and several hundred have been pre-ordered.
About 90% of all pre-orders at PowerNotebooks.com have been for the WSXGA+ version. -
lol well yeah, everyone wants that GT.
-
Which has more orders, the sager np2090 or the compal ifl90? And much do you have of each and what can I expect the wait time to be for both?
I guess this is to both powernotebooks and xotic. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
We will all get them at the same time.
Since Sager just started taking pre-orders last Friday night, and PowerNotebooks.com has been taking pre-orders for about a month, you can probably deduce the "how many" part of your question.
If you were to place your order today for any of them, your shipping date would probably be in early to mid-July...oh, and thanks for asking -
Is it possible to order an IFL90 with a 8600m GT with a WXGA screen instead of WSXGA+ screen and a 9 cell battery instead of 6 cell battery? It's the only thing that's making me hesitate on buying one right now. And if not, may I ask, what is preventing such a configuration from happening?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Sure, that is exactly what the Sager NP2090 with the WXGA screen offers. It is the same Compal IFL90 laptop but with Sager's brand and warranty.

Hey Donald would you recommend the 1280x800 or 1680x1050 for gaming? How would games look on a 1280x800 native screen running the game at 1280x1024?
I don't know which screen I want anymore D: I will be doing gaming and web browsing mostly. -
The thing about LCD screens(and hence, laptops) is that you cannot raise your resolution past the native resolution. A 1280x800 screen will not run at 1280x1024.
As for which one is better for gaming, that is a little more subjective. The lower resolution means your video card doesn't have to work as hard to render the game, and you get a better framerate.
A larger resolution screen will look a little crisper, and have a little more detail, but it comes at the cost of framerate. The good thing about having a larger resolution, is that if you have to, you can turn it down. The bad thing about lowering the resolution is that the screen has to stretch the image to fill the screen, and so you loose some image quality. Some people find this unacceptable, and simply will not turn the resolution down unless they can't achieve a playable framerate otherwise. In that situation, it is probably time for an upgrade anyways. Some people do whatever is necessary to get a lower FPS. It's all a matter of preference.
Personally, I like 1680x1050. It's a nice mid-range resolution, falling nicely between 1920x1200 and 1280x800. -
Silly question, but:
If one had a laptop with a 1280x800 resolution, and was perfectly happy with that resolution for gaming, but found it a bit lacking for "work" use, couldn't one connect to an external monitor, and use that other monitor's full resolution, even if it was say 1920x1200? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Not silly at all...as a matter of fact I work with two external monitors in addition to my laptop screen.
Those of us that have realized the benefit of working with multiple monitors appreciate the productivity they provide and would never go back to using a single monitor unless tied to the stake and about to be burned. -
I think you can, that's what i"m doing. Because the resolution is just for the laptop's lcd. You might not be able to game at that res too well though.
I think I asked that question not too far back, it'd be funny if I forgot the answer in this short period of time. -
> it'd be funny if I forgot the answer in this short period of time.
Hehe, I know the feeling all too well. Sucks gettin' old!
Anyway, while obsessively refreshing the forums for a "they're here!" notice from Donald, I got to thinking that maybe I should get myself one of those 'Kensington Locks'. I do a little traveling for work where I need to take my laptop with me and stay in hotels, but carting my expensive new baby around all the time is going to get real old real fast.
Anyways, NewEgg's got a bunch of different models, are they useful? That wire looks like it wouldn't be too tough to snip, but I don't know how they actually work...
I do know about LoJack, but figure I can write my own service program that occasionally phones-home to my freebsd box here. -
