CPU-Z says DDR2?
If it says DDR2 then it can only use DDR2. DDR2 and DDR3 have a different number of pins (DDR2 is 200, DDR3 is 204), and use a completely different slot.

My Hannspree is for sale by the way if anyone is interested. I hate to part with it, but gotta get my money back. If I had a steady job right now I'd just keep it because it's such a great little machine.
-
Wow. Is there anyway to increase the voltage to the CPU? which program can I used? I tried CPUID but I dont think it worked. I also managed to get mine up to 1.6ghz stable but I feel the need to push on a little further. Also, is it possible to overclock the videocard? I think that is the main concern for me, I want to be able to smoothly play some games. I did a test on MW2,L4D,NFS World, and MW. Im getting on average about 15-20 fps, which is a tad ty. I really hope I can do something with this GMA 4500hd.....Ahhhh. If not then im really temped to sell this netbook...
-
No, you cannot change CPU voltage. That is probably the biggest hold back of the system. Although I can consistently get 1.9GHz, although rarely do. Only on occasion when I wanted to play a 1v1 SC2 skirmish.
-
I feel ya. I've decided to sell it. I will be getting the HP g42 14" laptop. To quote a laptop reviewer "im just recovering from the net book fad" lol. If I want some serious power and mobility its best to just go for a smaller laptop...If anyone wants it feel free to email me at [email protected]
-
For future references to all people who are looking at laptops for playing games; Stay away from Intel GMA 4500hd, or any intel graphics for that matter. If you just play 2d, or less intesive 3d games its playable at the lowest settings. As for Starcraft 2, the Fps starts out on multiplayer 4v4 map as about 23fps but dangerously drops to 1fps mid-end of the game. I've played modern warefare 2 on this netbook (SN12E2), and it was decent on lowest settings with Gamebooster ok. Need for speed world, and freedom fighters also runs fine. Black Ops, and left for dead 2 is unplayable, but Left for dead is playable but gets choppy during those graphic intensive settings.
Overall, if someone is actually looking for a netbook, this is a GREAT choice. Its definitely amongst the best out there for the price. It runs MS Office 2007 fine, surfs the net fine, everyday computing with poweriso, winrar handles fine. I would recommend this netbook if your not planning on playing any recent games. -
Nobody should ever consider Intel GPU for 3D games unless they're from before 2005. With OC I've been able to play SC2 on 1v1 or maybe 2v2 skirmishes against AI. And I wouldn't do more than 1v1 mutliplayer. I start off at 35+ fps but with lots of units it can run down to 15 or so, but still playable. Also, play at 1024x768 with all low detail. It works, if you are realistic what to expect.
-
Yea I guess. Your right. This was the first ever mobile computer device I have ever brought. Im more of a desktop kind of person. So since im outa the house more, I figure I wanted something that could be portable, and somewhat powerful, not looking to play games on high with graphics maxed out lol. Perhaps low-medium settings is fine. htwingnut I would like your opinion on this laptop that I brought yesterday from HP, its the HP G42t
Ill give you the specs shortly. -
OK here are the specs
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual Core Processor P6200 (2.13 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6370 Graphics
4GB DDR3 System Memory
320GB 7200RPM -
Do you think it will handle games well enough? Im not looking for anything to powerful, im a student on budget. Its $515 all together.
-
What games? The HD 6370 is definitely better than the Intel GMA 4500MHD, but still not a powerhouse by any means. It will run latest WoW probably medium settings, and Starcraft 2 mostly medium, maybe some low.
-
yea...I figured that. But its soooo difficult to find a 14" laptop that has a powerful dedicated graphics card. Any in mind under $650? 13-14"?
-
Well, I guess my point is that you won't find anything too powerful under $650. Which is fine, depending on what games you want to play. For games like WoW, Starcraft 2, Modern Warfare, Source games, etc it should be fine. But for Crysis, Bad Company 2, etc it will struggle.
I would recommend asking in the "What notebook should I buy" forum here. You'll probably get lots of good suggestions there. -
Way ahead of you buddy! I posted a thread on it. But I would prefer your opinion because you understand where I am coming from more than the others. We had the same netbook/notebook lol. I didn't realize laptops get outdated so fast!
-
any thoughts about running a triple boot on this machine ? Windows 7/Mac OS X/Linux
-
Wow, never tried that, the most I have on this machine running is VMware. XD What do you have in mind?
-
Yeah, depending on what you need to do, best bet is to run a virtual machine. And if that is the case, you will want to get 4GB RAM.

Hi,
I am German and my English is horrible. I apologize.
I am also the proud owner of the HANNspree SN12E24 (german/european version) and would like to build in a UMTS modem. Before I open the computer (bad "warranty void"-sticker), I have a few questions and hope that someone can help me.
The notebook is prepared with WWAN option. Does anyone know if a UMTS-antenna is already firmly installed?If so, where are the connections and you need cable?
My HannsBook specs are:
* Model: SN12E24BGP212
* Color: Pearl Black
* Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (but I will switch to 64-bit)
* CPU: Intel Dual-Core SU4100(1.30GHz), 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache ULV
* glossyDisplay: 12.1", 1366 x 768
* Graphics: Intel GMA 4500MHD
* 2GB RAM: DDR3-1066
* HDD: 320GB SATA
* LAN/WLAN: Gigabit Lan and N-draft Wireless.
* Battery: 6 Cell Battery 5200mAh -
I have not been on here for a very long time due to school. Thought I'd give a little update.
I ended up selling my Hannspree notebook mainly because the *technical* support is quite possibly the worst I've ever encountered. They are completely incompetent.
The customer support is probably fine, however. If you have any problems with your unit, you can send it in and they will do the repairs and send it back out.
If you require any kind of technical info on the unit, good luck. I remember asking for a bios to enable the second mPCIe on one of my friend's unit so he could add a 3G card to the unit and getting the following response from tech support: "After checked internally, I am sorry to inform you that our NB does not support 3G function even there is a sim card slot on the unit."
LOL
I even asked for a pin-out of the bluetooth connector on the motherboard. After 8 unanswered emails, I gave up and figured it out on my own. They kept telling me that the notebook didn't come with bluetooth. :-/
Yeah, ridiculous.
Anyway, the European models are much better than the American models.
Cheers. -
hanspree! Great to see your back! I will be also selling my SN12E2 and using the money to buy a 14" HP g42t with dedicated graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon 6370 for $577. I think its a great deal. Which notebook/netbook did you end up getting?
-
Hello!
Thank you for the very quick response to hannspree. I think by my faulty English was created as a misunderstanding. The 3G/WWAN is only prepared on the notebook, not installed.
I have now bought on eBay a corresponding module (Sierra Wireless MC8781). But unfortunately I do not know - is a corresponding antenna and the cable in the laptop are pre-installed?
Can someone help me with this "problem"?
Thanks in advance ...
hrol -
I still don't understand what you mean by "The 3G/WWAN is only prepared on the notebook" but here is the response I got from the incompetent tech support people when I inquired about 3G WWAN support. "SN12E2 does not support 3G function."
Fortunately for me, my second mPCIE slot was enabled and I had to install the wires/antenna myself.
That said, it is very likely that your hannsbook will not come with a pre-installed antenna/cable. You will have to supply your own cable and antenna to attach to your Sierra Wireless WWAN card. That is actually a very easy process.
The main problem is whether the second mPCIE slot will be enabled on your laptop. If it is enabled, then you're in good shape and it will be very easy for you to install the WWAN module and route the wires/antenna to the back of the screen (just follow the WIFI antenna wires.) If it is not enabled, then you probably have a newer revision of the laptop and you will have to figure out a way to enable the slot (either via a bios upgrade or a hardware mod.)
The bad news is that you will definitely lose the warranty if you attempt to open the bottom bay covers on the laptop. (A way to get around that problem is by removing the motherboard from the casing without removing the bottom bay covers.)
It's a good laptop for the price, but good luck with tech support. -
I tried out the Acer 1830T but I HATED the keyboard on it so I returned it. I have also grown accustomed to having a better video card so now I'm looking for one with a discrete video card.
I also tried an Acer Aspire One D255. It has a GREAT form factor but same horrible keyboard, low resolution screen (1024x600) and overall horrible performance. So that had to be sent back as well.
Now I'm currently without a notebook.
I'm looking for a core-i3 based laptop with discrete graphics in an ultra-portable form factor (less than 1" thick, 10-12" screen), and a 6-cell 63wh battery.. I'm unable to find anything suitable.
If HP could shrink the G42 down to an 11" form factor, remove the optical drive so it would be less than 1" thick, and put a better battery on it, I would buy it! I'm starting to like their island style keyboard (Lenovo/IBM/Apple keyboards are still my #1 choice, however.) -
Have you seen the new HP dm1? It has the new AMD Fusion technology. While not exactly a gaming powerhouse (think it scores about 2,400 3D Marks on 06), it can be had for $450 all-in right now and apparently gets about 8 and 1/2 hours of battery life with a traditional HD and more than 10 with an SSD. It also come with HP's CoolSense, which keeps the laptop really cool. And it is damn sexy to boot.

Hey Folks! I too have the SN12E2 (from Costco) and have pretty much fallen in love with most everything about it. It's my first portable (I've always used Desktops) and had really low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised by its snappiness.
It's funny that I found this particular thread as I was searching for the specs on the SN12E2 to compare to another system that caught my eye...and on top of that, the last comment would be from turned2black talking about the very machine I'm looking at.
The HP dm1z that was recently announced seems to be in the same price range and looks rather promising. It's a smidge smaller than the Hannspree, but if the performance boost and battery life would be significantly improved I think it may be worth it.
Anyone able to give me some real-world examples where the HP would just blow away the Hannspree? Spec wise, it looks like i still wouldn't be able to play Tropico 3 or anything, but I dunno...any input is appreciated.
I feel like the Hannspree has just enough juice to deal with 1080p mkv files, but it doesn't handle the 1080p youtube streaming files, would the dm1z fair better?
Either way, I might just wait and see what Costco comes out with before my 90 days are up though...i absolutely love their extended warranty and return policy. -

Same thing here, except I always used larger laptops before! I just bought the Hannspree to fill in for my 17" Asus while Asus took almost a month and a half to repair, but now that I have the big one back it seems rather monstrous to lug around now that I'm used to the little one!

Same here all around! I'll be following up on this thread. I think I have about a month and a half left to exchange the Hannspree if I want to. -
Bluetooh cable HELP needed. For the life of me can I get this right. I have read the first few pages about the bluetooth and had bought 2 different setups. Both are the same broadcom 8 pin adapter, but the cables are different.
Neither cable will fit the motherboard. Here is a photo of the motherboard connection and the 2 cable ends that I have. The motherboard connector is bigger yet.
I first bought the one on the right, but it was too small. I just received the one on the left, and it too is too small.
Can someone help with leading me in the right direction getting a cable?
For what its worth, I can now break down this notebook and get to this point in about 4 minutes. Back together in about 6 minutes -
...Yes, I'm dreaming. -
You can do what I did and use a multimeter to get the pin-out info.
Regarding the cable, I had the same "problem" as you, but i was able to cut up the pieces into blocks and thread them onto the connector. I know that's not what you want to hear, but a bit of electrical tape and some hot glue will get the job done too.
Good luck -
Hello!
After several attempts now a new posting from me.
First I have installed a module from Sierra and then another one from Dell and tested both. Unfortunately without success. Both are, after driver installation, not detected. I suspect the second PCIe port is disabled.
Unfortunately I am not technically gifted, so I can't convert/figure the hardware.
The motherboard seems indeed a special construction for the HannsBook to be and is not detected by EVEREST. The search for a modified bios is not possible.
But I have observed an interesting thing. Sierra modem that was detected in the bios as a CD drive, called "USB TRU-in. But after Win 7 is started it was not available in the device manager.
So I have no another idea to install a PCIe module was realized.
I am grateful for the help and good advice (especially to hannspree).

Are you using the newest bios; 965HGP05?
Enabling/modding the mPCIE otherwise usually involves soldiering.
I was smiling when I read posters talking about the display. 瀚宇(HannStar) is first and foremost a LCD display company. -
I also came across the Acer Aspire One 522 which is pretty darn cheap. I doubt it could even hold a candle to the SN12E2 or the dm1z but that's one affordable little netbook.
I'm happy with the SN12E2 and it's ability to playback 1080p mkv files (h.264), but it struggles with HD Youtube playback and I'm hoping something out there in the same price range could handle this. -
-
Hello. So nice to find this forum.
As uber-knowledgeable computer people, could someone please give me the condensed version of a comparison between these two netbooks: Hannspree SN12E2 Pentium Dual-Core ULV SU4100 1.3GHz 2GB 320GB 12.1" WLED Netbook Win7 Home w/Webcam & 6-Cell ($299) and the HP dm1z AMD E-350 Fusion APU 3GB RAM 320 GB HD WIN7 ($449).
Sadly I must tell you that I know nothing about computers except how I use them. I'm a travel organizer and private tour guide who must tote a netbook for internet access as I lead tour groups in Europe. I do not need 3G, just using free wifi hotspots. I'm currently using an Asus eee PC 10.1 with XP 1GB RAM 160 GB HD. I've had it since this model was introduced, about 3 years. It has been absolutely perfect in every way, but I'd like something a tad bigger and hopefully faster.
The points I know I'm looking for include weight, battery life, screen viewability (resolution?) and running cool.
In other words, what is the reason I should spend the extra $150 for the HP if I'm using it for internet and word processing?
Thank you in advance for any insight you can give me. -
Just so you know, in the US you can buy this laptop refurbished from mwave for $329.99.

If you are into video/htpc, you will notice almost no difference between the dm1z and the hannspree - the dm1z will trounce the hannspree in 3d and gaming and be just as good as the hannspree in the video playback. If you are into cpu intensive tasks, the dm1z might be a bit slower in some tasks... nothing major, however (at least nothing I could tell.)
I think I will hold off until August before making my next purchase. I am looking to get something that can do flawless 1080p playback and fullscreen flash/hulu.
Oh yeah, I tried out the Lenovo U160 and fell in love with it! I could not believe the difference in the feel of the keyboard. I cannot go back to other types of keyboards. Hopefully, Lenovo will release a Sandy bridge version of the U160 with usb3 and a 5500+ mAh battery.
Oh yeah, the price will be a fair bit higher than the SN12E2 - probably around $500-$600, vs $300-$400. -

Hey guys!
So I recently bought myself this laptop and am really liking it so far! I need a little help though. I downloaded all the drivers from the corresponding download area on the Hannspree website. Everything updated fine except for two things.
1) The Bios.
When I downloaded and unzipped the bios folder, the readme asked me to run the auto_win.bat file under windows (I'm running Windows 7 x64 but I tried this under the original Windows that came with it too and same result.)
I ran that and two command prompt boxes open up and the second one says some stuff and then
-Error : loading driver
And then I have to press a key and both the command prompt windows close. I tried the same by running the file as administrator but no go. I also tried opening the afuwin.exe file directly and same problem except this time the error loading driver pops up in a seperate windows box. The BIOS thats currently on my system is:
American Megatrends inc. 080016 3/12/2010
Is this the latest already? Then I won't even bother trying to get the BIOS flashing problem fixed.
Second, I downloaded the AHCI drivers, but theres no executable inside. How do I install this?
Appreciate the help guys. Thanks! -
Oh and also my Integrated Webcam and Mic are not working :\ where are the drivers for win 7 x64?
EDIT: nevermind I had to actually hit fn f8 to even turn it on -
Ok nevermind solved everything. Where is everybody anyway
-
I put my little Hannspree down on the desk in a hotel room and pushed it over a bit - and it went sailing off the edge and fell on to the thinly carpeted floor! Turns out the desk was waxed and as slippery as ice. I was afraid to turn it on, but amazingly it seems fine, so far anyway.
-
Did you have any chance to connect the SSD to the mini PCIe slot?
I've seen modules of 32gb from Runcore (50mm) at 96 pounds in UK and I was willing to give it a try if I'm sure it will be recognized as HDD by this laptop. -
So after seeing everyone on this thread extoll the virtues of this laptop, I took the plunge and ordered one off of mwave. Really like most of the laptop, but I've encountered a few issues:
touchpad: I've gone through 3 installs of windows 7, and for some reason the touchpad goes from intermittently unresponsive, to jumping all over the place - and NOT when I'm typing (I don't touch the area when typing). Also, sometimes it acts as if the right-click button is stuck down - as if it wants me to see the context menus for EVERYTHING on my computer
network card: Incredibly slooow performance. I can see that I'm connected at 54Mbps, same as my work laptop, but I can only pull down max 200KB/s. I can't even really stream youtube. I use downthemall to test speed as it seems to do a pretty good job of saturating whatever connection you have, and I can get around 1.5MB/s on any other machine connected to my router.
I'm planning to install ubuntu ASAP, as the GP recommended - I will update with results. However, before I do this, I will swap out the RAM with my work laptop's and see if that makes a difference (has in the past).
anyone have a similar experience with this laptop? any suggestions?
thanks in advance all!
jm -
Exchange it! Seriously, sounds like you got a bum laptop.
-
Ok, I realized it was a mistake to sell my Hannsbook SN12E2. I got a good deal from mwave and bought one again. I can't believe I gave that sucker up. Now I'm holding on to this one. Sure there's better performing and longer battery life out there, but nothing of this size and performance for this price. $300. Simply incredible!
-
yea 300 is really hard to beat, maybe if more fusion 12" come out, it will give this badboy a run for its money, but until then....
-
But finally think I'm finding my perfect setup:
Shuttle SFF desktop with i5-2500K, GTX 570
15" Sager notebook with i7-2630, 560m GPU
12" Hannsbook
I'm selling my current 17" Sager, and the cost of that will pay for most of those three above!
The Hannspree HannsBook SN12E2 Thread!
