Not sure if anyone still reads this thread, but is it possible to install Windows 7 via a bootable USB drive on these laptops? I spent about 3 hours with no luck trying various tools including Microsoft's official tool and YUMI.
On a side note, has anyone installed Windows 8 on their SN12?

I've installed Windows 8 on mine. I installed it to a new SSD by booting up from an external usb hard drive. I don't remember all the details of how to do this but it all worked fine.
The SSD upgrade was accompanied by an update to 4Gb. Win 8 seems fine to me (though I mainly use it in traditional desktop mode) and generally I really like this little machine now I've upgraded the hardware. A problem I have that is getting worse though is that the power connection is very erratic and needs a lot of wiggling about sometimes to get it to work. I assume that I'll need to go and something internal soldered unless anyone has any alterantive suggestions?

Mine has only one slot. It came with DDR3 2GB, and I replace it with DDR3 4GB and SSD when I first got it. I have it for little over a year now. Can't convince myself to go with Macbook Air, so here I am looking to get a little more out of it. And the 8GB now are around $40+ so it would be awesome to put one in.
I have the same model as you. I had to replace my memory right out of the box since it was garbage. I didn't mind as I wanted 4GB anyhow.
Maybe 6 months ago (around the time of your post) I tried to use an 8GB chip and the laptop simply did not like it at all. -
Mine is getting quirky now. Occasionally the screen dissolves into "static", but when I restart it all is well again. More often, though, it just won't start up - unless I briefly remove the battery - and then it starts up normally. A few minutes ago something new happened - the screen just went black. Since I restarted it all is normal again, so far.

I think I found a solution to that one, I think. I hold down the start button until the little blue button (whatever that is) next to it lights up too, and then it starts OK. -

I've had my Hannspree almost three years and it still works perfectly - when it works that is. Three problems:
1. the charger port is loose inside. It is hard to get it to charge. I've tried hot melt glue to keep the plug in a position where it takes a charge, and that didn't work out, so now I've got it taped down and it still charges, sort of, sometimes.
2. at random times the screen breaks up into a field of noise/static. restarting the computer fixes it. Sometimes this doesn't happen for a week or more, and sometimes it might happen again after a few minutes.
3. it is hard to turn it on. i have to push the on button in a certain way, and sometimes i need to remove the battery and put it back to make it start.
I bought it at Costco for $400 + tax in Dec. 2010. Costco added one year on to the one year Hannspree warranty. I also used Costco's American Express card to buy it and AE added on a third year to the warranty (unfortunately they no longer do that). So as it is still within the third year I filed a claim with AE warranty dept. They just resolved the claim by crediting me with the full original cost including the tax! -
Hi,
Can anyone tell me whether is possible to change out the processor on these and put in an i5 core?
Cheers? -
Hello,
I have the same problem (the cooler it's sound too noisy).
I want to change it but I can not open it.
Can someone make a tutorial or something, because I just can't open it.
Thanks.
Please!
Hey man,
I have a problem with my Hannspree cooler, so I want to open it to see what's wrong, but I don't know how... I cannot open the back part. If I will see the photos from your tutorial maybe I will be able to open.
Can you put again the photos or send it to me?
Thanks. -
Sorry, but I couldn't figure out how to open it either when I wanted to fix the charger port. Well, it won't charge at all anymore, so I've marked it officially kaput - but hey I used it for free for almost 3 years, and originally I only wanted it as a temp substitute for my Asus sent back to the factory for repairs! It would still be going if the charger port didn't break, tho other problems were certainly developing, like the screen periodically breaking down into a field of static. It was real good while it lasted. I'm sorry that Hannspree never sold any more computers in this country. I especially loved the way it came with zero bloatware.

Or even pin #1 thru #4 (I think) and where in the motherboard they go and what order?
Thanks! -
Thanks in advance! -
So I dove in and tried connecting the bluetooth module and low and behold it's a straight connection like hanspree said. Here is a link of eBay bluetooth module I used:

Hey, thanks! I just noticed this - and my old Hannspree has been sitting in the corner gathering dust - so I'll give it a try! -
Good luck. -
Would you please let us know which option you chose, and (because the Ebay listing will disappear over time) would you also let us know which model numbers the letter refers to?
Thanks in advance for the help!
P.S. I ordered a different module and cable, and it was the correct module and 8 pin connector, but the wire was about 1 inch too short to fit in the empty bluetooth mount that's to the left of the right speaker. I am thinking of splicing in an additional inch of wire -- but it will be a real pain due to the small size of the wires. The module that I bought on Ebay was listed as "
Gateway P-68 Bluetooth Board Module w/cable". Here's the URL to the listing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380840400187
===========================
Okay, here's an update. As I said, the adapter that I ordered above came with a cable that had the correct connector to connect to the motherboard. However, it was about 1 inch too short. I ordered another one of the same type (they are only about $4.50 used on Ebay) that had a longer cable, but the motherboard connector was too small. I could not find one with the correct connector that was longer -- it seems it is a rare connector for a bluetooth radio. Soooo, I took the too-short cable, cut off the end that connects to the radio, and took the cable from the 2nd one I ordered, and cut off the radio-end connector leaving about 2 inches of cable still attached. I then carefully soldered the two cut cables together making sure to match the wires up. It worked just fine, although it was a bit of a pain as these wires are very small, and it is hard to strip them without cutting through the wire itself -- and then twisting them together prior to soldering with large hands was a bit of a chore too. I used very small diameter shrink wrap to cover the soldered connection of each wire, and then used electrical tape to cover the bundle of spliced connections.
The radio fits into the designed location just to the left of the right speaker. The screws to hold it in place are the same short ones that hold the access panels on the bottom of the computer.
I'll post some pics of the motherboard and the installed bluetooth module soon. -
oops wrong thread.

Hi,
Got this laptop for my mother 4 years ago and having problems with the battery - basically appears to have died.
Struggling to find a replacement anywhere on line. Anyone know what the model number I'd be looking for is or where's a good place to get one?
Thanks,
Nick -
Last time I checked with Hannspree they had spare batteries for sale...
I would call Hannspree and see if they still have them available...They were something like $55 or $60...
My battery amazingly is still good four years later...
-
I've discovered there's actually a lot of places selling the batteries for these now...The battery is the SMP QB-BAT66C.
For the heck of it I just ordered one from China for a total of $33.99 Delivered to the U.S. (They have PAYPAL Ordering)...
I'll report back here once I receive it and charge it and see how it works...For those interested here's the URL..
5200mAh SMP QB-BAT66C Laptop Battery [K_27714] - $31.99 : Buy Genuine, Wholesale Laptop Keyboards for Sale, Supplier -

I got the replacement battery today from Singapore...It looked exactly the same...Is the same capacity as stock and had the EXACT SAME STICKERS on it...Charged up to 100 percent no problems and my laptop has been running on it now for going on 3 hours and I'm on 64 percent...(I have a SSD installed)...So for $34 delivered in 3 weeks it was defnitely a good deal.
See above link for ordering... -
Hello,
I have just put my hands on a HannSpree SN12E2 (model: HSG1121). After surfing the web for 2 days I decide to write to this forum without being sure if someone is still using this device and also willingful to reply as the last message dated 8 months ago!
To cut it short, the device was running W7HP 32-bit when I upgraded it to W10 Home 64-bit. Everything went perfect. Or nearly. It was the touchpad. It works but not the way the user's manual said it should. If you use one finger then there's no problem. With two fingers the cursor does not move. When I look in Device Manager/Mouse and other pointing devices, I see the touchpad is using the default Microsoft driver PS/2:
I think there must be the specific driver for this model amongst the different manufacturers (Synaptics, ALPS, Elan, Cypress, etc...) and started to surf the web trying to download the driver from the HannSpree manufacturer. Well the link to HannSpree EU http://www.hannspree.eu/en/support led to nowhere. Actually there's no trace they have ever dealt with a notebook! The link to http://www.hannspree.com/us is dead like a stone too. I fear the company has simply shut down its business.
Could someone please let me know which manufacturer of touchpad you can see from your "Device Manager/Mouse and other pointing devices" if you are running the pre-installed W7HP 32-bit? Based on this piece of information I could try to find the good driver. Many thanks.
Otherwise, I learnt that the device is shipped with 2 CDs, one of them contains drivers (32-bit). If someone could be so nice to let me have the piece of touchpad driver, I would very much appreciate.
Many thanks for your help. -
Well, going through an excellent review in here (User Review: Hannspree Hannsbook - 12.1" Netbook) I found the driver was Sentelic Finger Sensing Pad and managed to download the version used by the 10" Hannsbooks. The driver is for both 32-bit and 64-bit and the touchpad works correctly now. Windows 10 Home 64-bit works like a charm on this nice little device. Problem closed.

Went to the above link again and again, last time today, and found it is always down. As your message dated back to Dec 2011 and we are in Oct 2015, I imagine Hannspree has closed its business and associated website meanwhile.
I recently found a HANNSbook SN12E2, upgraded it to 4GB and installed Windows 10 64-bit on it. Everything seems OK but when I went through Device Manager, I found many deployed drivers (VGA, Camera, Touchpad...) are the default ones from Microsoft. As I wish to get an idea on the stability of the device while using the factory shipped drivers, I started to search on the web and came up to your post. In case you still have the W7 driver CD (shipped together with the W7 Recovery CD), I'm wondering if you don't mind letting me have an iso of it? Many thanks.
