N0elia, i know thatbut why does zeptos driver not name it right, like every other driver? (btw they are named right with the vista versions).
@crex
Anyway, my gpu never reaches the mentioned 98 degrees when monitoring it during gameplay in WoW or Cod4, it gets close, but never at 98.
What i want to try is someone who has great experience with that 169 drivers, to try the 163.71 beta drivers in game and compare. If they are worse or the same efter like 30mins of play, then i must be more specifik my system, if im right (which I think i am, can confirm one other with the exact same results), then the 8600m gpu is screwed by nvidia :/
p.s. Never had any problems like these with my old laptop znote 6124" with a 7600go.

-
Hehe yeah.. but! I have some news... sad news though.. I think i can confirm (99%) that this issue is related to the mentioned heat problem.
I mangede to get my gpu to 100 degrees, and there even the 163.71 beta drivers made a fps drop. Have to say though, wow didnt become unplayable at all! things were still smooth! just 10 fps lower... were the 169.XX just made life a living hell with stuttering. But, point is... there is a problem, with the heat of the gpu and nvidias drivers which we really cant do much about?! So basicly... were ****ed ?!? cant use our 8600m at maximum load? wtf?!
getting sick of this... -
You can try with underclocking the card a bit with Rivatuner and a 169.xx
-
Underclocking ?!? how is that going to make my gaming more fun?
you do have a point though... for the testing purpose alone.
Btw, ive noticed that Nvidia havnt released any geforce go drivers for the 8-series yet at all ! are there any real difference between desktop and laptop drivers, or is it all just an ini file? -
I really don't understand your stuttering problem! Did you use the "clean install" method?
-
N0elia> I bet you dont understand it because you have a 15,4" laptop, which gets like 10 degrees less hot at maximum performace
-
That still doesn't explain the stuttering problem, it's driver related.
Why the heck will a smaller screen size cause stutter ?
If your card really overheated you would've seen artifacts and reboots -
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
I agree with n0elia on this one. The stuttering is driver related, but why you see it and no one else does is beyond me. About the 156.65 not naming the card correctly we are trying to get that fixed for the current driver. Hopefully there should be a solution tomorrow for the incorrect naming (even though it doesn't change anything significant except you will see the correct naming in the Device Manager).
-
Rene S, the zepto driver 156.65 isnt working right here besides the name. alot of resolutions are missing. like 1280x800 isnt an option anymore.
And i just tested with my laptop cooler, while gaming cod4 and wow with 169.17.. it seemed all VERY good at the beginning, superb performance, lower temps, atleast 2-3 degrees lower than before at gpu, (cpu has never been a probem, its only at 70 degrees at very heavy load), gpu was never over 96 degrees, mostly around 94.
But still.. after around 30minutes of play.. my fps dropped around 20 fps in wow :/ and stayed there... Im really confused here, its not because I dont know what im doing with computers or anything, which some tend to think with the never ending "did you do a clean install?" questionJust really frustrated that this little machine isnt doing as its supposed to.
*edit*
And if I really is the only one having this problem.... then your saying it's hardware related? -
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
I'll probably be uploading a new version of the 156.65 tomorrow so if you could try that out. If it was a general problem i bet you would see more people posting about the problem you are experiencing.
Sounds like there might be a memory leak in some program you have running on your PC. -
If you're the ONLY one, then for sure it's hardware related!
-
-
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
N0elia, not necessarily. Could also be a program installed on the system slowly eating up the RAM in the system ect. But yeah could be hardware related.
-
its not a program eating memory.. its been the same since i got it.. xp, vista you name it.. and i dont use any programs that are not normal and its not full of spyware or anything like that.
crex>
Cool, ill be waiting to read your results.
Rene S>
Sure, msg me or post it in here when they are up, ill be glad to test them. -
-
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
Crex, exactly. Unfortunately not all drivers are good for all users.
thomaskc.dk, i'll PM you a link when they are up. -
Crex>
That was exactly what I was wondering about earlier too! but Ive managed to push the temp a bit up, even with the older drivers.. and the result seems unfortunatly the same as with the 169.xx drivers :/
The difference is maybe in the stuttering, they just go down in fps, but dont actually make it a stutter hell like some drivers do. That might be why I havnt noticed it all that much with these... cant tell for sure. but the fps drop i have recorded with 163.71 too now
But it would also be very wierd if only one single driver version was working, and the 60 other versions didnt, I dont belive that.
@rene
Great, ill have a look then. -
Have a look at this thread. It may fix your problems
It's a long post, but worth reading
Here -
N0elia, Thanks but i actully know that thread.. lots of fine fixes, no doubt.
But it's not really the stuttering that is my pure problem, its the fact that my performance just drops from superb to sorry-sad-and-hellish after around 30mins of play without any real reason. No major temp changes, no changes in gameplay or what so ever. -
@ thomaskc.dk
I just bought my 6324w as did a friend of mine. We will both test this during christmas. I'll pick up WoW and C&c3 then. -
I have a 6224w and I am experiencing the same thing.
Immense fps drop after som time of playing unless I use RMclock or put the thing on a cooler....
it happens at around 92-93 degrees
The way I see it: the comp could be a monster but it is held back by this issue! -
crex> good to hear!
And remember, dont let the 3dmark06 score fool youIll make some tests later today in 3dmark06, with 1 run see score (usually really good) and then letting it loop it all like 10 times each and see if the gpu gets hot enough to screw up or if its something else.
From the statistics this doesnt really seem like a heat problem, never had artifacts or shutdowns or anything. The stuttering is the driver and 8600m for sure, can be tweaked here and there. But the sudden fps drop is wierd... like mentioned before, everything runs perfekt.. until a given time... then its just like it jumps down to a lower setting of clockspeed or something, and stays there for good. -
-
it's the tool lower the volt on your CPU, so instead of running 1.275V you can make it run 1.000V at full performance. All this means less volt ~ less heat, and your cpu max temp will drop like 10 degrees.
-
Okey, thanks!
-
Every CPU have different undervolting capabilities, so you may have to test a lot too find the lowest/safest voltages.
Here a link to stable verson
2.30.1
There's also a beta, currently at ver. 2. It supports IDA/DFFS & SLFM for Santa Rosa chipsets
2.35 beta-2 -
169.21 is released! You may want to try them. I posted the links here

Screw 3D mark05 it's for old games
Don't worry, I don't think the loss of 500 points will harm you in any way, since it's 05
-
EDITted al my posts with that bench from 7230 to 7608!
Have done that test again and I've got 7608 -
If thats the results then I think Ill have to dload that when I get home
-
Sound quite promissing.

169.25 is released. See this post:
Here -
Omfg I just got the .21 installed...
-
I'm no gamer, dont know what to expect out of my 6324w, but cod4 doesnt run flawless at 800x600 most settings at low/med with AA 2x or off. When it gets a bit intense it stutters like hell, almost unplayable, but then when there arent too much action it runs fine.
t7300 2.0ghz
2gb ddr2 533
8600gt 512mb
100gb 7200rpm with vista 32bit
dont have a lot of services running meanwhile and real time av scanning turned off. Not sure what drivers I have installed, I'll check next time I'm at my laptop, but its zepto ones. Should it run better? -
Offcourse it should run better :-s
Frames: 61948

Is your energylevel at 'high prestations' ? -
@frippo
That's exactly how my first encounter with cod4 in vista was ! HELL ON EARTH!
And im telling people, something is damn wrong! (eventually most have got the eyes open for my problem)
Im installing vista x64 atm to get more of my 4gb ram, and ill do a bit of testing there too to see how things are. -
CLB, yes its set at top performance. You arent by any chance running XP? Could this be a vista issue?
I just installed the 169.09 drivers with modified .inf file. Didnt do any good even though I was running something as old as 161.01 or something before.
As I said, no gamer, so totally out of the loop when it comes to what hardware is required for what games at certain settings. But I know this is at least a mid end computer so I thought it would be able to play todays games.
Your stats looks good CLB, 30 fps is acceptable and 50 fps is good, just need to find out whats wrong here.
Let me know how it goes with vista x64 thomas, although I doubt 2gb ram (or 3gb for that matter if thats what you're having) would be a bottleneck.
Noticed I had nod32 real time scanning running afterall, will see how it runs when I shut it down.
If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share. -
Noopz, look at my sig! I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 bit!
And you've didn't answered my question: Enerylevel at 'high prestations'? -
Yes I did, first sentence. Top performance=high prestations, almost always got power cord plugged in so never bother turning power saving options on.
-
I have used 3DMark 06 to benchmark my 6224 when testing the overclocking possibilities suggested in this thread. Normally I would obtain a score around 3300-3400p with an overclocking profile of 600;1200;475. The temperature would stop rising at 96 degrees.
However after a standby the temperature continued to go up (until 108 degrees). I guess because the performance wasn't being stepped down, by some technic that must have been disabled after the standby. I don't how to see the the real frequentices, as Rivatuner just reports the statics.
The result was however a new record, 4320 point i 3DMark 06. Se attached.
My computer: 2Ghz T7250, 2 gb ram, 120 gb 7200 rpm and 8600mgt, driver: 169.21 -
What about the resolution? You sure you're running the test @ 1280x1024?
-
Don't think so
Espacially because of his processor that don't score so high -
Yeah probably... It would be crazy to score more than 4000 on a 8600M GT, especially when it's GDDR2
-
I just played Crysis, and the temperature went up to 111 degrees and stabilized with most framerates between 20 and 30. Medium settings
Where the heck did my attachment go to in the previous post?
zepto 6324w and 8600 performance
