Hey, I have purchased an iPower GX in the UK and everything is brilliant with it except the fact that it will only let me have a max display resolution of 1440 x 900. Both on packardbell, and the site i purchased it from claim that the screen can support a resolution of 1920 x 1200.

Why 0can I not select this option? (its not even shown, even in nVidia control panel. I am running windows vista 64bit on the laptop.

    Thanks for the help

    NEW:

After getting in touch with packard bell I have been informed that the M-900-UK model (current UK Model) does not come with a 1920 x 900 res screen as to cut costs. This sucks in a way as I was wanting a higher resolution laptop but at least its not a problem with my laptop. Hope this helps others with the same issue!

    Hi dannydylan,

I am looking at getting the ipower GX-m-900 myself, but I'd really like to see a review first if at all possible. The Packard Bell web site clearly states that it has 1920 by 1200 so I'm a bit puzzled as to why they have changed the specs but not updated their marketing.

What is the build quality like? How's the keyboard? How noisy is the fan?

I would really appreciate any further info you could give.

    Thanks.

surely this is a break of some rules, i would ask for a refund or atleast some compensation - you bought something in good faith based on what they said the item could do and to find out that it doesnt do that, i would be very p***** and i would demand a refund

For some reason the packardbell site clashes details because the page I was shown does infact state that it is a 1440 x 900 screen:

As for the laptop itself it is VERY much like the gateway P7811 FX model I had a few weeks before until i had problems with it and had to send it back. My model comes with a fingerprint reader between the mouse buttons on the track pad though. When I first opened the laptop i felt that the trackpad was not as nice a quality as the gateway one as when moving my finger up it seemed to jolt as though the surface was rough, however now it does not so I dont know whether it gets better after use or if I have just got used to moving my finger over it.

I feel the overall look of the iPower GX is much better than the Gateway equivilent. The 'urban grafitti' decor and red lighting has received much more approval from friends and family than the 'carbon look' and orange lighting of the Gateway laptop I had.

The keyboard responds very well and the keys are rather flat so you do not have to push too hard to type. Unfortunatly the shift key is in a difficult position as it has been moved to the left to allow the arrow keys to be fitted onto the keyboard and so usually when I want to hit shift I sometimes hit up without realising, however this gets less common after a lot of use of the laptop.

The laptop doesnt get that hot and the fans usually kick in every 10 to 15 mins if you are multitasking, however after a while they stop doing this and the CPU fan emits a low whirl which can only be heard in a quite room. As soon as you play some music on the laptop you cannot hear the fans really so no complaint there. The speakers are of average quality I guess, I have never owned a laptop before so can't really compare, they are not tingy, but some songs feel like the speakers need more bass in them. But considering they go rather loud I was quite suprised.
Battery life is rather better for what I was reading, I can use the laptop for about 3 hours when surfing the net or on msn on battery. Changing to power save mode gives about 30 mins according to the computer. I have not played games yet in battery mode.

    SPECS:

    Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 2.13GHz
    nVidia 9800M GTS 1GB
    LCD 17" TFT WSXGA 1440 x 900
    320 GB 5400 RPM HDD
8x DVD+ - RW dual layer drive (labelflash)
    1.3 Megapixel Camera with Mic
    Finger print reader

The ports are identical to the Gateway P7811FX

inside it looks identical to the Gateway, I upgraded the drives to two 320GB 7200 RPM drives exactly the same way as I did in the gateway laptop. It also looks like the cpu can be upgraded too, however I am not very technical with laptops in that area so will be waiting for a tutorial or for someone to confirm that it can indeed be upgraded, although it does have the exact same insides as the Gateway model. I would guess at the DVD drive can be updated too.

I am definatly thinking of upgrading the DVD drive and CPU in the future. Other iPower models have quad core so I am assuming that this model can easily be upgraded to those without any problem. Hopefully.

I bought mine from Currys Online for £999 and it comes with a manufactures warranty for 1 Year, however this can be upgraded through Currys warrenty service anytime within that year for a price of course.

I cannot imagine you need more that 1280*800 or so. I am not a women nor very old but i cannot stand 1600*1200 for everyday work.
