I have a client that i sold a cf 29 mk4 to that is complaining that he can do msn video chat with his family. They have a camera but when they connect to him, he gets a video driver error. I logged in using team viewer and got the error when he did it. I tried meebo and it doesnt give an error, but it also doesnt show any video.
I never used my personal cf 29 for that type of stuff, so as far as i am concerned the cf 29 is perfect. But its not meeting his needs.
Obviously drivers arent something flexible since its an old model. I have installed windows 7 on it.

I have never used win7 yet, nor video chat, but from what I have read...I can give a SWAG. ( Sophisticated Wild donkey Guess )
I figure W7 on a CF29 is probably pushing the hardware a bit. Trying to do hardware intensive stuff like video chat is too much for the limited ram and video memory, not to mention the 1.6 single core cpu. Even with perfect drivers, I bet they will still have issues.
I used to see this type of problem a lot. Until they came out with gaming consoles. People buy a used $200.00 pc or laptop and then get the latest game and puke the whole shebang. Follows is the phone call to me to fix what "I" didn't build correctly. After I restore the mess, on my nickle of course, I explain you can't expect to go 187mph in a stock used 1978 Pinto.
My advise to folks now is 1st of all, buy an Xbox for teenage computer killers. Games stay on game consoles. Check the hardware requirements for Win 7 and the video chat/camera shtuff. My guess is the CF29 will fall short. -

This was my problem when I had W7 on my 29. Never had a problem watching videos With XP Pro but when I installed W7
it all went down hill fast, freeze up and video was not smooth at all. Put XP Pro back on and never had a problem. I had only 1.5GB memory in my 29

Well GAMING i can understand. But video chat i didnt think that was a big deal, i guess i will try windows xp on it.
Would using the toughbook to access a more powerful pc through team viewer work with msn video chat?
