    Alex, thanks for the schematics...

they were for CF18BDK01ME, mine is CF-18BEL01ME ... slight difference being the integrated GPRS WWAN stack. Would you have documents, schematics on those boards?

Initial (few hours) look brings up several questions:

The super-IO chip has has 4 serial ports. The digitizer is hardwired to the first one so can't use that. Three and four seem to be reserved for the WWAN board (and BT?).

"COM2" however seems to be wired to the docking connector via some sort of analog switch with some of the lines shared by the GPS.

    So,
    - Device manager shows several serial ports. Is one of them the docking connector?
    - Does the WWAN really need both the serial ports
    - How is the "COM2" on the docking connector isolated from the GPS via the analog switch

I'll hook up the motherboard to the digi scope tomorrow and see where everything goes...

Goal: hardwire one external serial port and get the GPS working via serial or usb (using single chip+antenna module such as Fastrax uPatch100-C9)

    - Ransu

I'm not sure about most of what you said, but just plug any USB GPS into either of your USB ports on the left side of the CF-18 and start navigating. I like the USGlobalSat BU 353.
