I've tried all combinations of those setting, plus others I will end up phoning Victim Support over the weekend.

Hopefully someone who understands more than the standard computer on screen instructions will be on the phone.......

    My recommended additions are;
SPB Pocket plus(commercial) for minimise and widgety icon thingys on the home screen, plus numerous other enhancements, including tabbed browing in pocket IE
FdcSoft's task manager it's a task manages, BUT it does registry editing, DLL reg/unreg too! Plus some more that I cba to recall. Seriously check it out, I keep it on all my WinCE/WM devices.
PocketGNUBoy, for when you feel like a bit of Pokemon Yellow out somewhere too dangerous for your pristine Gameboy color :p
    Memory Map(commercial) if you're a GPSing/Mapping person like me.
PocketPutty for SSH'ing into a sever whilst hiking up a mountain that may appear.

Thanks for apps, i've downloaded them all. The only remaining question I have is that when I remove an app, the shortcut remains. Any ideas on why this happens? thanks

If you're talking about the shortcut in the recently used programs thing under the start menu, that will disappear after a while of not being used.
If you're talking about the shortcuts in the Programs folder, my guess would be that the installer put it down, forgot about it and therefore didn't tell the uninstaller that is was there.
To get rid of old shortcuts in the Programs Folder, open File Explorer, go to "/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/", hold down the stylus on the old shortcut and select delete. It should now be gone from the Programs Folder on the start menu.
You can also the Start Menu/Programs/ folder to add shortcuts to programs provided in a .exe which don't have a CAB to install them neatly.

Took me over two hours to explain to Victim Support that my phone would NOT be on their database. Three calls later, and an angry rant at the supervisor got me somehow redirected to the sales number, and luckily they transferred me to the next department, the ones who actually help you rather than asking you to take the battery out, stand on your head with the phone, then ask you to take the SIM out every night and put it under your pillow in the hope that the GSM fairy comes along and licks it.

Just tell 'em that your phone is unusual and mention something about GPRS modules for a scientific/research project and ask for the settings to be manually programmed into the device. You'll most likely just need the APN, and User+Password, but whilst you're there it might be worth asking about Proxy settings, DNS settings and IP settings. I also asked them for the MMS settings just to stay on the phone longer (CF-P2 can't do mms, right?) as they gave me a freephone number, and I did have to call them three times on my mobile which they stole 12P every time.

The settings for Orange PAYG GPRS as follows:
    Code:
    APN= orangeinternet
    user= blank
    pass= blank

That's it. You should now be able to use orange on your CF-P2

It's Windows Mobile so it should be stupidly easy to customise stuff on it once you've found where its hidden.
I swear when I added a few custom home screen DLLS they had to be put under /Windows/Micro$oft/Dont/WantYouTo/Find/folders/DLLSHERE/notreallylol/dlls/

On the subject of applications, I presume you guys have seen this - SPB Pocket Plus - makes the CF-P2 look quite snazzy

    http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/CF-P2

Don't know if the Wiki post is by one of the forum members, but it is also useful because it has a link to the file to restore your phone to the unised Windows Mobile 2003SE condition

Pocketnav - task manager like app that I couldn't live without on wm2003/se
xda phone skin chooser (if I hve to explain that, you don't deserve one of these devices)
    phm regedit
OOh, also, look into IIWPO on xda-developers.com. It's anti theft software. when someone (a thief) changes the user info, or swaps the sim out for any but yours, it will text the current user name, address, sim's phone number, and other info to any mobile number of your choosing...
I never did like spb - to resource hungry

Also, check out wiki.xda-developers.com. I had a wallaby aka "tmobile pocket pc 2002" that I did all sorts of naughty stuff too. Custom cooked roms, developement tools, and a host of personal reviews of different software, etc.... great site. guess my username over there :D
They also have ported wm5&6 to devices that should only have 03/03se.
They have also figured out that you can run android on top of wmobile (load it on an sd card, wm goes to boot, sees the new boot image on the sd card, and loads that instead!!!!!)(that doesn't touch the rom on the phone, so if you don't like it, pop out the sd, soft reset, and you are back to stock wmX)

If anyone anywhere could port android or some other wmobile, it would be them. the real problem with porting over another OS is driver support. Getting a linux kernal to load isn't nearly as difficult as getting all the appropriate drivers, and setting them correctly.

Now, I love my Tough Stuff, and I want one of these, no doubt. That being said, why would someone want one of these limited, underpowered, and slow gprs connecting devices, when I have an HD2, 1ghz, 1gb ram, with 3g?
It's a legit question, not meant to be demeaning in any way!

Why does any junkie want his next fix? :D

Actually, a guy at work asked a similar question about my CF-29 - the fact that his dogsbollox Sony has twice malfunctioned because of the dust here made it a rhetorical question as far as I was concerned, but then we all know that. But I just said to him that my ambition was to have a complete collection lined up on a shelf as examples of appropriate technology design masterpieces. So far I have a CF-25, CF-27, CF-M34, CF-29 and the CF-P2. Unfortunately, financial constraints mean that I have to wait for them to become old technology before I can afford them. But when I win the lottery................

Well that sums it up perfectly.......

I manage to kill phones at work, a good one will last 9 months if I'm lucky, one lasted 3 days... .

My personal phones never seem to last the contract out, scratched and battered, mostly through being dropped.

I hate close/small keypad buttoned phones but theres not many proper work type phones about apart from the Sonium/Land Rover/JCB clones.

Saying that I'm looking at a HTC Desire as a new personal mobile for posh. and the CF-P2 as a personal work phone, just because its tough.....

Because the HD2 doesn't bounce when it's dropped.

I emailed Panasonic indicating that I was interested in developing for this device and that I wanted to port WinCE6 and Android to it and that I would like a bit of technical documentation on the phone, and possibly Windows CE project files, but they must have just lolled at my email. One of my friends is also interested in getting Android running, and I'm sure there's a few people here who are interested too. When I finally get my "Shed for Hacking, Interrogation and Tinkering of devices", I'm going to get a job lot of CF-P2s for tearing down and bricking in the name of porting Android.

Of course if Panasonic eventually help us by releasing technical details, I'm sure somebody from xda-developers with more skill could get a working port running extremely well, then the lesser able with code could polish up the bugs and nibbles.
Come on Panasonic... help us out here if you're listening!

Even if you (plural, we, us, whoever) doesn't go posting over there, they do have rom kitchens that could be used to see how things are laid out, as well as how those roms are assembled and ho we might need to tar down/assemble ours.

    check out wiki over there.

When I asked at the Panasonic shop, they gave me a funny stare and told me to ask their website.
Their ability to advise me on this module might have been tainted by a quick rant about how their TVs were running linux and I wanted the full source code.
I've since flown an email off to Panasonic but they haven't replied for exactly one week now so they're obviously ignoring it. :(

    Calling that now...

After an automated teller (that actually worked well, and understood me) a very hot sounding Niki, answered the phone, and transferred me to Tech Support.
Some nameless guy told me it was for laptops only, and to call the "real consumer affairs" line at 888-863-5292

now, after a brief hold, Trina (who sounds as equally hot as Niki), couldn't find anything about anything. I told her it may not be a consumer device, and she said that she had checked all the different areas in her computer machine, with no avail. Then she transferred me to the Director of Marketing for laptops. I don't know why, I had 3 other people tell me it wasn't part of the laptop division. She wouldn't give me the number, and it went right to vmail. Being a quick talker, I didn't catch the "director'" name. she, didn't sound too hot (I figured someone would ask, since i commented on the other two ladies) I'm hoping she was on the other line, and will call me right back. I'm holding my breath, now :nah:

I think maninblack30 was on the right track when he mentioned his old Casio pocketpc with wifi.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/462956-new-toy-11.html

I looked in the PegasHlp.htm file in windows and the details are almost identical to those given in a Casio manual for their DT-10, the only difference being that the screen shots show it as a SyChip Pegasus WLAN CF Module.

I don't think that moves us much further forward because wifi capability was only an option on a few Casio models and some of them were restricted to Japan. But at least it is another avenue to explore.

I believe the Pegasus module may also be an "Sandisk SDIO Module" too from some googling the other day. Perhaps its a common chipset.

WEll, the manual says iit has sdio. Compatibility may be an issue, but no more than any other device that has sdio. an sdio card should come with drivers, but for 03se, it will more than likely have to be a slightly older (or just not newer) card.

I know I've seen GPS, WiFi, and serial (i think) sdio cards. We use to use them on our xda II's, for the lack of built in gps.

How straight forward would it be to get a SDIO WiFi card working with the OS?

Is it a case of installing the correct drivers or do they pre-load from the SDIO itself?

From what I'm aware of, SDIO cards don't have any memory on them.
If the WiFi card uses the Pegas drivers/chipset then it *should* be plug and play.
If it uses another chipset it will be worth investigating driver support on Windows Mobile, try looking for the driver cabs for it.

Hi I'm new here and I also have just got hold of a CF-P2 CF-P2T1H027E but I can't access Wi-Fi? It is not one of the crippled Tom Tom ones but I notice zzr1200 has the same model version with Wi-Fi?? Could someone have loaded the wrong firmware? Wireless Power only shows the Phone & Bluetooth.
    Any advise?

I'm guessing that's your radio callsign... thanks for reminding me that I should join a club and get started.
Anyways, to check for presence of the wifi card/module, go to
    Start>Programs>File Explorer

Navigate to My Device/Windows and look for PegasSTA.exe, it is 29.0K not the 28Bytes one. (The 28Bytes one is an icon file)
Tap it, and it will attempt to talk to the wifi card. If it's got wifi it should run without showing "Unable to find wireless Netcard. Is it inserted?".

Thanks lxsys I tried that and got the error message. I've contacted the ebay seller I bought it off to see if he has a box of them and I was unlucky! He did sell it as having 802.11b though.

Yes that's my radio callsign I like rugged radios too, I have an ex-army Clansman UK/RT320 HF Manpack Set, it goes well with my CF-18!

    SilverTrooper,

SDIO SDHC will most likely not work OOB. It would be worth investigating what the chipset is for the sd slot, as there are many HTC phones that have hacked drivers to support sdhc on unsupported hardware. It should be possible to enable sdhc support IF you can find another 03se device with the same chipset. It might disable the IO portion though.

    This
led me to this example and this example.

    I can't help my propensity to xdev's. It's what I know, sorry :D

Something I will be investigating (more) once we get our units in from the UK...

Apologies for public humiliation, but don't you mean AC1DFLAM3? And can you even get SDHC SDIO? Isn't that just two standards borked together? :)

Might be worth checking with Panasonic about that then, they might be able to decode the model numbers.

Actually, this card isn't an SDIO WiFi. Do not buy!
I've looked down this route before, and so have many other Windows Mobile users, until they saw it's little brick wall trying to hit them in the face.
It's a cute little card that *has* WiFi, and an embeded processor. Now this card when in range of a wifi router automatically uploads all photos to the specified PC (eg 192.168.1.123) via WiFi router, but the WiFi functionality is only available for use by the onboard embedded processor for the explicit purpose of uploading photos.

It's a nice idea, but it's not going to give you WiFi and 2GB of storage on a P2. Sorry.

Now THAT is a find and a half. I hope it works in the P2, I'm going to do a little research on the chipset.
Shame I'm going to have to buy one from the USA, because customs will sting me something rotten, but wow...
Just out of interest how long did that take you to find?

I spent weeks searching "SDIO WiFi MB GB" hoping for something on google when I first (as the navigo wikispace liked to call it) "hacked" my Navigo Satnav, I wanted a WiFi card but the device didn't have Non-volatile storage, OR a backup battery, so I needed one of these if I were to be doing anything useful.

    Ok,
I finally heard back from panny about getting support for the P2.

I was directed that the device was only available in japan and the UK, and i need to seek any further support from https://www.computerproductseurope.co.uk (IE only, my firefox just hangs from the jscripts)

I've emailed 4 different email addresses for more info.

    Continuing to hold breath

Last time I looked the FCC had no jurisdiction in either the UK or Nippon.

www.computerproductseurope.co.uk - this is a service portal for corporate customers to log their broken units directly with Panasonic.

If you need support, you can email [email protected]
Or if you fancy calling the Toughbook helpdesk, +44 8709 079 079. I think tech support is option 2 or 3.

The CF-P2 was made pretty much for British Gas, and I don't think the device was really sold much, if at all, in the US. Hence the lack of support over there - the device would of been put through FCC testing (as is pretty much standard), but that doesn't mean the device was actually fully released over there by Panasonic.

Yeah, that was one of the addresses I had emailed. Guess what, I got a real informative response.... (not too bad, just not as good as I was hoping for)
I think I heard her turning the pages of the general response manual.

i'm looking for a good candidate to make a port expander off the bottom of the phone.

I know the connector itself will, i"m just curious if anyone has tried to set a P2 into this cradle (or just knows if it'll work)

    Quick question:
will this GD87 [IMG]dock work with this phone [IMG]

And how do you thumbnail an image on this forum (I couldn't figure out how to resize url'd images)?

Hey, that's my P2! (and poor photoshopping) I'm glad to see that he's a star now.
Provided that the phone physically fits in the dock hole, and the connector is modified to use the P2's pinouts, then yes. In fact, I'm very tempted to dig into my CF-28 fund to get a dock... you've made me very curious now...

Since they also stated the unit was Japan and UK only, wonder why these "popped up" on the search?
