    Great!!!
Where you found the small plastic cover for this antenna? It would be better to put antenna not inside of side part of screen, but somewhere as in your case...

the cf-19 has three plastic part covering on the LCD as you know that. Two for both side and on at the top. I will use the top one to embed this antena.

    Ohlip -

Now THAT antenna makes it worth looking into GPS to me... we can fit that bad boy under stock rubber on ANYTHING...

    Hey -

Have you guys scoped out the GPS section at Sparkfun lately?

    http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/categories.php?c=4

They have dropped their prices, and have a LOT of new, UBER-TINY stuff... like a 2.5dB chip GPS antenna 2mm x 7mm for $1.50, and a SIRFIII GPS engine that measures 10mm x 10mm for only $39.99... Also, if you want the simplicity of USB, they have a complete GPS Module/USB Converter pair for $105.00.

With the size of those modules, you could hack the USB channel from your touchscreen to a USB hub, then pretty much just plug this into it, and the power would ALREADY BE SWITCHED!

You could do the ENTIRE HACK INSIDE THE LCD!

    Where are YOU?

    Ummmm... guys...

Anyone? Comments? You guys who do this all the time... will this work, or am I just completely out of the loop, and everybody's buying cooler stuff cheaper elsewhere?

Sparkfun is okay... But you can find better pricing elsewhere on most items... Just Google and look around. The smaller, active patch antennas can be a pain to locate... I just as soon stick with Jim Gray's stuff... Works great for me and has never let me down.

Alex... You need a wilder avatar than that one... May I suggest....

K... so they're the same as they've always been; a good place to look and see what you want, then look for a cheaper price elsewhere.

I was just surprised by some of the newer uber-tiny hardware they're listing... it looks like it could be really fun!

As someone who checks periodically... I was surprised that they don't have MORE stuff.

I do need to check out Jim Gray's site... Every time I talk to Jim or Tom... I always hear they are getting ready to come out with a new line of smaller GPS antennas and other cool stuff...

And don't be suprise the amount of shipping to France if you want to receive the item sooner. And If you choice a cheaper one, you must wait atleast 1 1/2 month to arrive. Thats the worst experinced I have encounter selling to that area. As a seller based in North America, I stop selling item to France and a chance of having a negative feedback to the dishonest buyer.

To Germany a week and sometimes two. I had only 1 case, where I had to wait a month, but this was because of Katherina and the seller was from Orleans. So normally no problems...

To Germany, Uk and other parts of europe I've got no problem only to France. I don't know maybe the buyer that I have encountered from France is a member of Nigerian contingent on EBAY. Lol

What I've done to the last five Taoglas AP10B-01 GPS Patch Antennas was replaced the pigtail cable to RG178. If you are going to do that be very careful you may damage the unit or melted the cap. on it.

    Teo,

Since we are on the subject here... I got a deal on 500 feet of RG-174/U about a year and a half ago... That is what I have been using on my GPS installs... Unless the antenna comes with something better. (Copper braid) I am building a lot of Toughbooks with custom GPS (EM408 + Sarantel) and it is for a fire dept. Now the Sarantel blows everything away... But so you really think I would get any better signal with the RG-178???

    Just curious...

Rick, Try with this one its the best I can get so far I bought twice to this guy. I am looking forward to buy again coz the last one I've got almost run out. Its USA based seller so you don't have any problem. You can call him but unfortunately I've lost the no. Its better than RG178 but almost similar, much better so to speak. Made it very good quality not like those from China that can easy be burn. He has one now for sale its 50ft in one roll. From time to time he listed this product and I save this seller so that its easy to track him down.

    Ebay item no. 230377064901

If you prefer to install an antena to the top of LCD with coax wire is not an easy task. It require a total breakdown of the unit I mean total disassembly of the unit from the lcd housing up tto the motherboard in order to sneak around the coax cable. Its like assembling from the factory. Its not a joke and it is not adviceable for first time modder as I suggest. On the hinges alone its a pain on the ..coz you need to follow the existing route of a cable in order to swivel the lcd. Hinges has to many separate component you must be remember when you disassemble and it must be put it back at the same as it was otherwise your in trouble. At the lower part on the MBo. you must take it out the whole main MBo. Again to lay out the different antena cable to its corresponding assignment even the aluminum heatsink must be out coz the antena cable route is beneath on to this thing.

As I said and I would suggest not to proceed if your not confidence or lack of technicalities with this procedure. You may end up of a unit turn into paperweight machine. This procedure is the same to cf-18.

I know that it is so difficult to make. So, I have some time before will receive all parts (GPS, antenna, cable, etc) to make some ideas how it is would be possible to do by the best and easiest way. Your and Rick's consultations are very important for me. Thank you!

The easiest way is to install the antena to its original location using a bump cover but it is not as good as the antena installed at the top of LCD. If you prefer the original location you can finish the whole thing with complete materials in less than 30 minutes using the aftermarket gps module.
