Yep seen that one! Problem is the environment I use the car in will mean the dust will get in the PCI slot as it cannot be closed with the antenna sticking out. Definetely got to be an internal solution, thanks for the interest though.
Hmmm, you have still got a long way to go if your trying for the longest thread in NBR history.
And by the look of thing's, your still having problems with the WWAN, so along comes someone to throw a spanner in the works.
Depending on the weather your side of the drink, you may want to brew a pot of tea or collect a new crate of beer before going any further.
I'm questioning the Model Number Deciphering, which makes a difference to the hardware & software you currently have.
So let's start with a "Simple Configuration"....CF-19FHG
AXAM;
A = Bluetooth
X = Wireless Ready
When A & X are replaced by two numbers it denotes a Customer Special Configuration....in this case....a coincidence that 8 & 3 are available seperatley....nevertheless, it should be read as 83 which will have been designated to a specific customer who has purchased multiple units of the same configuration.
It now gets a little more difficult due to the fact that some or most of the Customer Special Configurations have, what the Forum Massive, refer to as a "Funky Bios".
An example: CF-18???63BE, A Customer Special Configuration, 63 being designated to the Metropolitan Police (UK)....the Funky Bios disables Bluetooth!! so regardless of hardware changes the Bios will not allow BT....Bios Flash - ello??
Other examples would be 65 & 66 designated to Jaguar (UK) with 67 & 68 designated to Ford (UK)....but I don't know what the Bios restrictions are....It's one of those corporate things....do we need them or not??
It gets better....when the Met upgraded to Cf-19's they were designated Customer Special Configuration number 19....an indication that the numbers are not automatically transferable to later models!!
So, in CF-18 form, the Customer Special Configuration of 83 was designated to AT&T....but who owns the same number in CF-19 form.
Things you already know:
You are using a Novatel card which operates globally on 850, 1900 & 2100 MHz bands on HSDPA & UMTS Networks.
You are using a Sim Card that....I've lost the page..was it page 3 or page 9.
You removed a HSDPA/UMTS Card...Not an EVDO-RevA - hint, hint.
So, Has the Novatel Card gone "Ping Pong"?
Do you have a Funky Bios that allows 3G on AT&T & GPRS on other Sim Cards?
Who can spot a Funky Bios with their eyes closed.
Oh...I've not got a CF-19....so I won't be much help.
Both cards worked in identical ways, both only 'saw' GPRS, no hint of 3/3G/3.5G so unsure of next step?
I have purchased a new copy of WIN7 but doubt that will help, but I am still looking for solutions, the perfect setup for me is to use the SIM in the back of the TB
Thank you for any help you have offered, any ideas are welcome....hell I will purchase a different modem if I can?
An EU860D, optimised for use in North America, has been replaced with an EU870D optimised for use in Europe. I wasn't suggesting there is a issue with the card in terms of it being a Novatel, I was suggesting that's what was fitted in production so the EV-DO Rev A, was the wrong assumption leading to the model number deciphering being wrong. Does that make any sense?
Tranquillo:
I'm not suggesting there is anything wrong with your bluetooth.
The idea was to give you an example of what a Funky Bios can do.
Now....I've just had a quick look at the Movistar Bands & did not find any information relating to 2100Mhz....
The EU870D operates globally on 850/1900/2100Mhz bands & is optimised for European use on 850/2100Mhz bands....
Have you got a Funky Bios....hit F2 at boot splash screen....what does it say in the Bios....does it follow the format that Glen has posted in the thread above?
What version of Novatel Mobilink Wireless Connection Manager are you using?....it's defaulting to GPRS for a reason....what connection manager does Pinecone use with the EU870D?
What ya' think....too many questions....or not enough?
I've got a sled for a CF-29....if I have this much trouble I'll bin it now.
Without going back a rereading this thread, I remember that the model number did point to an EVDO card but, it had been changed to HSDPA before Tranquillo bought it.
The pics are very small. I can barely make out a Mxx after the bios number in the first pic which means you have a custom bios. My Mk2 has bios V2.00L15, EC V2.00L13.
OK Glen thanks for your efforts. My BNIB copy of WIN 7 arrived today, over the weekend I might bite the bullet and format/new install the WIN 7 OS and see what transpires? Someone on here already has WIN 7 on their MK2 and got it right after a few tries, if anyone wants to volunteer any info before I plunge in I would be grateful.
I will prep up an old desktop with internet so I can still get to the forum ect to pick up any tips in case I screw it up completely.
So WIN7 is on the TB, graphics/sound/hotkeys worked right from the off. Novatel modem and com port drivers I had on a generic driver disc so no problems there. The Data and signal error in DM was sorted by the referral in one of Robtm’s posts (thanks Robtm). The cursor/touchpad for some reason did not work if the TB was soft booted but always worked from a hard boot. MS update sorted that with the offered update for the chipset. I still have three unknown errors in DM but will get to them as time allows, the touch screen works but the calibration is off, and perhaps the other drivers will sort that? The Moviestar internet dongle does not work with WIN 7 (even in XP mode) so will sort that later in the week when I get into the village however, when the SIM is put into the back of the TB, WIN7 recognises 3G!! Those of you following and contributing to this thread (I am grateful) will know this has been a problem. Now using ‘mobilink’ software only GPRS is shown but the taskbar shows 3G, the mobilink for some reason will only show the GPRS, speed has risen from 70 odd bps to 237 bps…..woo hoo, this is still a far cry from the 3.6 Mbps I normally get here in the hills but I am headed in the right direction....I think.
Hope this helps someone in the future, I will add more as I work out what the other errors are, if you have an idea please let me know.
Further update, I now have a clean device manager, not as bad as I thought it would be to sort.
Windows update fixed the screen calibration, there is a chipset option and this worked fine.
Function keys F: 7/9/10 do nothing.
Although the screen brightness works via F1/2 and the tablet button on the front there is no 'graphic' indicating the brightness level.
Of the five tablet buttons only the 'key' and brightness works, the others do nothing, (they did nothing in Vista either...hmmmm.
The internet modem continues to be a pain, there was also a BSOD event when I turned off the wifi switch, this happened just the once and I have been unable to make it repeat the event?
If I understand this right, even with a no errors in device manager some 'stuff' does not work because although the hardware is there it needs a specific programme to run, let me know?
If I work anything else out I will update accordingly.
I can't help you much because I did everything a long time ago but, everything will work if you do it right. It took me 5-6 tries before I got Win 7 right. This on a machine like yours.
Cheers Glen, at the moment the functions I have are fine and most of the others (front buttons for example) are no big deal, it is the damn modem again, having said that it works better with 7 than it did with Vista, I will keep going at it.
Great I will keep an eye out, note I have made some progress, the time it has taken up is incredible! I really appreciate the time others have put into the forum and in particular this thread.
Sorry to leave you roaming the desert with no water but my hands are full at the moment. I've had a quick look back over the last six pages for an update on what's what.
Regarding the Bios, the default settings on the one you currently have are different to the standard Bios....so something is INTENTIONALLY DIFFERENT....no idea if that's the issue with your WWAN.
The idea in my original post was to make you aware that a Funky Bios exists & hopefully someone tune's in with an...oh yeah, I had the same problem....this is how I fixed it.
Something not suggested in the previous posts is a Firmware up-grade for your card.
....if I get time, I'll have a look-see later.
I've just looked at the Novatel site....the support is First Class....not.
Novatel Wireless provides support to OEMs via their account managers. If OEMs are unable to resolve issues, the issues will be escalated to the appropriate group inside Novatel Wireless.
Could be...But we do have an NBR Technical Support....aka Pinecone...so I've got a feeling someone will send him a PM before we reach page 14.
Shall we start running a Book?....what are the odds on the following;
Movistar Network,
Drivers,
Antenna's
Funky Bios.
o.g.
EDIT: Oh....I never mentioned the obvious....crack open your dongle & identify the modem inside.
Cue the Scottish Pipes playing the sound of TaN Technical Support.
A new thread for the WWAN could be the way to go....I doubt if there was any support for the card using Win 7....doesn't mean it won't work.
The dongle works at 3G/3.5G....as I.F. said earlier, it should contain a mPCIe card....put it in the slot instead of the USB port....if you only get GPRS it narrows the field down....I've a vague recollection of RuggedSolutions having trouble locating a standard Bios for a later model.
Tranquillo's call...my money is on it being the best thing you ever had when it's all going.
Hi all. so to an update. I can now get everything working on the TB except the three buttons on the front, keyboard/screen rotate/...er whatever the other one is. The brightness graphics now work great as does the volume one (I had never even seen this before), in fact all the function buttons work great, so moving forward. The dare I mention it
Novatel Modem still refuses to play ball...sooo go ahead and feel free to split/advise new thread or whatever which may move it on?
I will continue to wipe the hard drive and reload windows untill I can offer a definitive method to getting everything working smoothly.
Now I am off to another hill across the valley where a nice single young lady lives and needs help with her Suzuki 4X4.....
OK so I continued to load drivers and then remove them noting what works and what does not, thus I would compile a list that could be put on the forum to help someone else. A couple of days later I decide to watch a film on the TB....hmmm no sound and yet there is sound when windows loads ect, tried different things and no luck, go to bed bloody annoyed!
A couple of days later I decided to have another go at flattening and reloading windows, normal procedure press F2 on boot, set BIOS to boot from CD ect and I get 'enter password' !!! I NEVER set a BIOS password and in particular not when still trying to get a decent base setting to build on. Soooo cannot get into BIOS now any ideas on what would be a typical password used by Panasonic engineers ect please PM me?
Of course without it I cannot boot from CD so cannot do sod all else,
You might take a look at PlopLinux 5. You could download the boot manager to hard drive and using that boot from USB. (I think) I have used it as described below to boot from USB on CF-28,29 MK1&2 and CF-48.
CAUTION: I have only used it in the configuration of where the boot manager was on a floppy or CD and ran from there. Also I read where certain files were modified. (don't remember where)I encourage a good read of their site. Lots of information.
Hi and thanks for that idea. I am exploring all options at the moment, I have lost my way a little here. I was on a roll getting the drivers all in the right order untill the BIOS password 'thing' (technical term) happened.
I will see what other options are available and appear to have a string of PM's so will see what is happening.
