A CF-P2 toughbook phone![]()
Winmobile 2003, gps and car kit... cool, I love 2003 as a smartphone OS and still have TomTom from my older HTC smartphone shame its only GPRS, but it will be nice toy for the boat and while my Iphone is away being repaired![]()
-
I've had a few of those come by my office... one magically disappeared too
... I think a former employee stole it... Very neat little gadget...
Is the one you have one from BP gas? -
mines coming from british gas
ill be interested to see how battered the thing will be!
-
I don't suppose you could get your hands on another?
-
there are loads, all BIN on uk ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USED-PANASONI...MobilePhones_MobilePhones?hash=item3caa64a678
-
Robert, you really are incorrigible! Worst case of the disease I've seen
CAP -
Pretty Interesting, are they locked to that carrier? I wonder if this model can be easily unlocked?
-
FYI... These are not approved by the FCC in the USA. I am unsure what the penalties of using a device not approved by the FCC are but I figured I would throw that out there
-
Are you positive?
Every Google CF-P2 search comes out with Approved
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2005/11/panasonic_cfp2.html as one example
Alex -
they are sim-unlocked
and as says appear to be FCC approved, but I will have a look for the logo when mine turns up
-
Something has changed then since the time I looked at them. Owell I was wrong
-
Matt,
Do they work on the European 900 & 1800 freq. band? -
I had a good day yesterday! CF-P2, 3G card and my new Toughbook logo all arrived!!!
the CF-P2 is working fine with my UK O2 and Vodaphone sim cards, voice, text and GPRS data... I cant seem to get the wifi to operate though. It looks like the ROM doesnt have as many options as my other WM2003 devices... but in the network cards menu it does list a Panasonic wifi module... more playinf is needed as i spent most of yesterday digging a landrover out of a field!!!
-
Matt,
What frequency use O2 and Vodafone in UK ? -
I have no idea! but uk and europe all use the same frequencies
well, ive never had an issue in belgium with any of my phones.... I love Osende!!
-
Yeh, Oostende, especially the beer i suppose
-
well, my main haunt is the New Orlenes Jazz bar... my yearly pilgrimage - march 28-30 ill be there!! not the beer though, but they mix a mean mohito
-
Oké, i bayed one : http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300393018031&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
We will see what i can do with it, if it does not work here i put it on Ebay again.
I do a lot of sound work in Ostend, have a bunch of good friends there. -
Can we have a review with pictures? Very important to me is runtime, whats it like? How rugged is it?
OT: Im glad panny produced a phone finally, but I don't know if the "extra" functionallity of a smartphone will be worth the lost battery time. Also have a look at the Sonim phones. -
very quick review -
With the display on it think it looks alright, but when the display is asleep, its like the 90's asking for thier phone back!! -
how is battery life?
I searched on Internet, but haven't found any spare battery vendor -
Yes, these P2's are unlocked and will work with vodafone in the UK. (1900/800 for the US and 1800/900 for the UK) (Quad band phone)
Thanks -
im not sure on battery yet... mine was fully charged by mid day and complaining about low battery at 11 pm, but i was on the data connection and playing with the thing most of the time.... so id expect normal useage to need to charge the thing every night... but thats par the course for a smart phone...
-
Thanks Rob
-
If you find a vendor for spare battery's, let me know
The longer they are out of production, the more difficult to find one
And yes, 7 to 8h is the max for a smart phone while playing with it. -
I have bid on one...we'll see what happens.
-
Well, I won the auction and it looks like I am getting the CF-P2 for $102 shipped from the UK to the US. Oh what a slippery slope we perch on in these forums....Its like this tiny voice in my head that keeps telling me I must experience each model line at least once....Oh well, a new toy for daddy to play with and mod!
-
Yeah, I am going to get a Sonim Enduro XP3.
Frankly, if the Panasonic will not do at least tri-band, it is not "world-wide" enough for me. But yop have to like the price of the Paansonic compared to the Sonim! -
Please do let us know how your experience with one of those is. And let me know at what price point you were able to get one.
The only reason why I don't own a sonim is because I am in college
-
The only reason that I have not ordered one yet is the cost. The best I have found them for in the states is $375. Best Buy is selling them now, I have heard. I will wait till I get my orders and then order that day. I can not tie that much money up in a phone without the need.
I liked the XP2 in that it allowed the use of a detachable antenna. The XP3 had that feature deleted!
No matter what some sales person tells you, no RF device, not one, works as well with a hidden antenna as a big external antenna. The antenna is the most critical part of any RF systems. All concessions to style and convenience are just that, a huge compromise.
Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest!

Hey guys, here is a fellow that is selling the Panasonic CF-P2 PDA Toughbook Mobile Phone UNLOCKED on eBay. He wants 49.99 GPB per unit. Unlocked sounds better to me if you like this phone. The ad says he has 4. Plus, his are in Black.

I got my entire p2 for that price
-
thats the going rate! and i think the phone is the same colour as the rest - its from Centrica (British Gas) with the same handsfree and accessories as my grey/black one
still, its a bargain for a win2003 smartphone
here are the instructions for the phone
http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/itn/manual/cfp2/P2MK1_PPC_E_OI_C.pdf -
He's okay if you live in Europe, he does not ship to the US, I tried him before I bought mine. As I said in the previous post, mine cost $57, but the shipping was another $45. But hey, for about $100 bucks I got a fully functional smart phone that is a Panasonic tough (although not as rugged as a Toughbook). All I have to do is pop in my SIM card and off I go. Yes, there should be no problem as I had a Nokia that had the same freq ranges (it was a Euro phone also) and it works fine in the US.
-
I didn't even know panasonic made phones, but I do know I now need one! Buuuut I think I'll stick with the crackberry for now...

I'm not tempted to get one of these.
There's no software updates, batteries are hard to come by, and you're stuck with an old version of Windows mobile.
If you need a rugged phone, there are better options out there. -
I have been told (and read) that the CF-M34 Power Supply fits these phones. Does anyone know for sure? I have an AC - DC and a DC-DC if that is so.
Well honestly, even if it isn't...
-
No way, the p2 does not have other power connector than the flat multi connector
-
Azrial,
Is someone feeding you pig scrap again
or you wanting to try something new like make a round connector it a phone a with a flat connector and prove us wrong
Did you read it on the net if so could you post a link to it.
I agreen with denrosten on this one. -
Perhaps, like I said, I didn't know. This site is was one of the ones that made the claim.
-
Azrial,
I was only pulling your chain on that.
It is nice to know the sites that we should not buy off as they don't know how to check whats compatable with the items they sell -
Sorry, I forgot to put a
on the end of my response. I took it all in good fun!
Now let me go change my display ad!
-
The adapter in your link is alleged to work with a CF-P1 which it will!
CAP -
Matt,
Did you manage to download from this link? I've tried, but with no success. If you did, could you email me a copy please?
Thanks,
