    I have one, and there is no wireless in it :mad:
    it is not in the wireless power status, so i can't turn it on or off.
    The "configure network adapters" in settings is showing "Pnasonic WLAN CF Module" but i can't turn it on.

    I have just been sent a manual from the person I bought mine from and it seems to be the one for the CF-P2 that British Gas had.

    So there is diffrent version of CF-P2 out there one with WIFI and ones without.

    Here is a link to the other manual.

    http://mcgcs.net/CF-P2.pdf

    Right click and save as ......

    Odd, the manual shows 802.11B for Wireless LAN with WEP and WPA support. It must be an option. The picture in the manual (page 5) shows the "Wireless Power Button" as either switching on/off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or just the phone.

    Have you seen the info on page 39 of the manual?

    That's th one i have :(
    There is also no sync cable included, i tried the cable from the Panasonic GD87 usb to serial with no joy, so it is almost useless as he wont sync with bluetooth either (phone software does not have the bt option in active sync)

    if someone have the pinout for the connector, i can modify the GD 87 cable

    you also need special a screwdriver to open it, so i can't have a look at the pcb for the usb pinout

    hmmm... there is wireless inside these! mine showed the wireless lan in the radio onoff screen a couple of times, but clicking it would lock the phone, it then mysteriiously dissapeared! So i assumed mine was broken...

    The panasonic os does seem a little crippled compared to a normal PPC2003 machine :(

    have you tried connecting to the car kit and active sync with the usb connector on there??

    Keep in mind that the Wi-Fi is only the older 802.11 b and will not showup or work on some 802.11 G or N network adapters.

    I have been using wireless for 10 years now, starting with being a UK technology pilot for nortel using $1,200 2mbit cards! (we were the only company demonstrating wireless at the uks largest education tech show! even out teching apple!! )

    ive yet to see a G rated product that is not compatible with a 'b' card, but that is beside the point... the utility im talking about is on the device itself, used to turn the various wireless cards on/off (phone/BT/WiFi)

    the screws look like the same sort nintendo use on the DS so im gonna have a look round the market tomorrow and see if i cant get me a tool to get inside...

    I found part of the pinout for usb

    viewing from left to right if you look to the bottom of the phone

    1= ground
    4= D+
    5= D-

    +5v =???

    I have a connector from a Panasonic GB87 that has the same size, but without the +5 it does not work
    So if someone find the pin for the +5 i will be very glad :D

    All you have to do is connect a usb cable to the car kit and to your laptop you do not need to power the car kit.

    the 5v will be the same one for the mains charger

    It is an option in some routers, DLink and Linksys for two, to cut off support for 802.11B.

    It depends on your throughput
    Wireless B devices on wireless BG routers slow any wireless G devices to B speeds

    IIRC, the inclusion of 802.11b will also restrict encryption to WEP instead of WPA across the board.

    Not necessarily. My router at home is using WPA2 for security and I am still able to go on line with my CF-M34 that has built-in 802.11b.

    Quite true, although some users may not need 54Mb speed if they are not streaming video etc. Most ISP connections are less than 11 Mb so B works fine for web surfing. And B has longer inherent range capability, if that matters.

    Btw, is there someone that have the usb cable for the CF-P2 ?
    I found the usb pinout on the car handset (connects fine with an usb B cable)
    but when i use the same pinout whit a homemade cable, it does not sync.
    there must be other connections in the data cable, so if someone open up the connector and can give me a wiring scheme or picture of it please.

    Would these work with Verizon?? just wondering, a toughbook phone would be great if they would. I believe Verizon uses cdma technology.

    Oh well, don't hurt to dream...however, we have been having problems with Verizon honoring the insurance we were paying for my son's LG dare (yep, he lost it) so we might be switching providers..maybe the dream can be reality! Since I quite often use my cell phone at work, and have dropped it on more than one occasion (on my 3rd razor) a provider switch and toughbook phone might just happen!

    I have got the usb sysnc pinout by probing the car kit cradle

    1= Ground (also noted by Derick)

    4 = D+ (also noted by Derick)

    5 = D- (also noted by Derick)

    6 = +5 from usb (Derick this could be your missing 5 volts)

    I can not test this as I do not have a connector to build this cable

    I did the +5 on pin 13 (like on the charger), and now made a bridge between 6 and 13, phone sync's and charge on usb :)

    Derick,

    Disconnect the link to pin 13 as this is only for the charger (house or car charger).

    you can tell the phone to charge or not to charge via usb by going in to setting - system - power - advanced

    I have been doing more probing around and pin 13 is not power when on usb via car kit.

    I found this on

    http://modernnomads.info/wiki/index.php?page=OS Versions

    "Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition

    Introduced April 2004, it brought a more visual update to the platform. Major changes were:

    * Ability to switch between portrait and landscape mode
    * Ability to force Internet Explorer to use one column
    * Support for the WPA wireless standard
    AKU2

    Introduced in October 2004, main feature is the introduction of Media Player 10, including the possibility to synchronize content."

    windows mobile 2003 on the CF-P2 will support WPA

    Hi. I'm a newbie here and as my first post i'd like to thank you guys for the usefull information on this thread. especially the usb pinouts.
    I've just aquired a cf-p2 as has a mate, his had the original british gas software on it which we got rid of by making a backup on mine and saving it to SD card then restoring his from my card. works great so i hope this helps others.
    I'm trying to get tom tom navigator 5.0 to work on mine, it installs ok but doesn't see the bluetooth gps.
    Bluetooth manager creates a virtual com port as either com 8 or com 9, that works fine and can be used by other apps but tomtom doesn't see gps on its bluetooth com ports. can anyone shed light on this? please!

    the com numbers don't apear on tomtoms gps configuration screen, just says bluetooth serial port or bluetooth serial port#2

    The same installation works fine on my axim x5 so it's not the gps that's the problem.
    Bob.

    p.s. i'm a toughbook nut. cf71/cf27 and now cf-p2.

    @ bigbadbob
    I have not used Tomtom ,and I don't have the phone,but you need to find out if Tomtom will work on com8 or com9
    Many applications will not work above com4 so you will need to configue your com posts to a lower number ,perhaps change the baud rate
    Go to Tomtoms website,they may have configuration info

    Hi Guys and thanks for your replys.
    TomTom works fine on either com 8 or 9 on my aximx5 so i'd expect it to on the p2 as well, however this is windows we're talking about so anything might happen. lol.
    The only differance i can think of is the bluetooth managers are different but both create on com 8 and 9. and other apps work fine. i'm stumped.
    bluetooth manager won't let me create virtual ports on anything other than 8 or 9.
    I have the car kit but no usb gps to try in it, my only wired gps is serial. boo hoo. nice to know any usb gps will work though, at least it's not model specific.
