Title says it all. I'm hesitant as W7 runs so well on my MK2 (not so well on the MK1 though). But W10 is the future for sure.
I'm an idiot, title does not say it all. CF-52 -

mk2?
What model?
Is this the CF 52? -

I should have a mk3 with WUXGA graphics for sale in the near future. I just need to get the mk4 loaded up and running.
Personally I would leave Win7 on it. Win10 maybe if it had a touchscreen. -

I have run W7 on a CF-52 MK1 and MK2 with no problems at all but the MK2 did run it much better. What do I think of W10. Check out the link in my signature . It might be free but they are making millions of dollars from it. Before you install it you must understand what it does and how it works and why its free. W7 is good for another 4 years or more so I am staying with it.

Maybe by the time W7 is end of life, I will have accepted Linux as a real OS.

I put Windows 10 on a CF-52GUN and the touch worked but when you tried to click on an icon it was really screwy. Right click and the menu was all wrong. As for the MK1 I have put Win 7 on dozens of them, turn off hibernation as it has caused me a lot of problems.

I'm in the process of selecting a Linux flavor to run on my desktop as we speak,I honestly am tired of Windows and all the problems. I need a Windows machine to do a few things in my business but that's minor.

there is a "substitute" for windows being developed ... it is sort of a glorified combination of WINE and POL ... and some mumbo-jumbo chanted at a crossroads at midnight ...
don't hold yer breath .
i use mint and W7 ... bounce back and forth between them .
libre office is not a direct substitute or replacement for MSO ...
some of the stuff between each is no where near compatible .

I thought that might be the one.
I just made a live CD last night. ReactOS has some good points of Windows and some good ideas from Linux.
My main concern is the driver availability. I know it will run on older equipment. I am not so sure about newer hardware though. -
My CF-30 Mk1 is running Windows 10. I did a clean install and most everything ran correctly on the install. I had to force the Panasonic video driver and adjust the settings for the wireless card so that Windows power manager wouldn't turn it off in the middle of use. All the hot-keys and touch screen work and it seems pretty good.
The only thing is videos are a little bit choppy so if I want to watch YouTube I just use my desk top or my quad-core tablet.
I could never get my CF-29 Mk5 to run Windows 10 very well though. So I gave up and it is very happy with Windows 7...Last edited: May 24, 2016toughasnails likes this. -

myself and shawn might be starting up a thread dealing with the 'nix OS (say , react) if it is reasonably worth pursuing .

CF-30K, MK3. First booted it up on May 20th, 2016 with Windows 7 x64. Now running Windows 10 x64 with the fingerprint reader added and working! <3
The upgrade process amazingly only took 30 minutes, and everything installed beautifully. (For anyone wondering about the fingerprint reader, I stole the Win8 x64 driver out of Archive.org's copy of the 2012-versioned fingerprint reader software it was originally bundled with. That mixed with Windows Hello = success!)
This is my first Toughbook and I'm already in love.
Edit: Apparently the forum doesn't like me using the word "copy" next to that website. Autocorrect strikes again!Last edited: May 23, 2016 -

Could you post your full model number of the one you installed W10 on. -
Way too tired to be functional tonight. But the ReactOS Live CD is waiting here for me.

Model Number:..CF-30K5P752M
Status:..DISCONTINUED
MSRP:..$2,000
Description: WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo SL9300 1.60GHz (Centrino2), vPro, 13.3" XGA Non Touch, 160GB, 2GB, Intel WiFi a/b/g/n, TPM1.2, Bluetooth, GPS, Dual pass (Upper GPS/Lower:WLAN), No Drive, Toughbook PreferredSugarD-x likes this. -

Win10 Pro fresh install on empty HDD running without issue for a week now. Easier than I expected. GPS and WIFI worked right out of the gate. After a couple of reboots and Win 10 updates the video driver updated itself. Only driver win10 did not pick up was the "PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller", a.k.a Intel® Extended Thermal Model Driver . Installed the Win Vista driver and it was good to go. I did NOT install the GPS registry patch.
......The only thing not stock on this one is the optical drive. I put a DVD Multi drive from a CF 52 in it. no problems there either.
CF-52VCABX1M, 16gb ram
I did a clean Win7 install from the Panasonic restore disks, went through 2 days of windows update getting the install all patched up and current, and then upgraded to Win10. Installed my antivirus after the upgrade. I don't remember any issues, but this is not my daily driver so I need to do a run through and make sure everything (Hotkeys etc..) works as it should. I'll update in the next few days.
Next is going to be CF-19VJRFX2M/8gb ram clean install. The final one will be my CF-52V daily driver, which has been tweaked a bit.Last edited: May 24, 2016ron_of_orange and toughasnails like this. -

Please read post #2781 here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10.762434/page-279#post-10264559 . This is how low MS can go...sad. make sure you click on the picture and the spoiler too.
Many ask why they are doing this. M$ has billions of dollars riding on W10. There stock price went up $11.00 but now has dropped down to only $5.00 .
MS stock price in July was $45.00 and went as hight as $56.00 and now is around $50.00. That means Microsoft's share holders are losing millions of dollars. So my guess you will see more tricks from them. You just wait and see.Last edited: Aug 16, 2016Dannemand and onirakkiss like this. -

I know on my CF-30 MK2 I had a hell of a time awhile back getting the TS to work correctly. I'll have another cup of coffee and see if it wakes up these brain cells so I can be of some better help to you!
1. Run "c:\util2\drivers\tscreen\TPSetUp.exe" The driver is installed with Yes. 2. Run ".[start]-[Control Panel]-[Additional Options]-[Touch Calibration]" 3. Please do calibration. 4. Run "c:\util2\drivers\tscreen\FujitsuTS.reg".Last edited by a moderator: Aug 16, 2016 -

Here's some Win 10 news.
Windows 10: Microsoft to Update Upgrade Prompt to Make It Easier to Decline or Accept Offer
After receiving criticism, Microsoft announced Monday changes to the Windows 10 upgrade prompt for Windows 7 and 8.1. Users will be asked to upgrade now, schedule a time, or decline the free offer.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-to-make-saying-no-to-windows-10-update-easier/
A lawsuit over an unwanted Windows 10 upgrade just cost Microsoft $10,000
Microsoft recently paid a (very small) price for its Windows 10 upgrade tactics, and that was before they became increasingly aggressive.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/3088...ows-10-upgrade-just-cost-microsoft-10000.html
I imagine the lawsuits will snowball now. This should get interesting.

I'm using Never10 on some machines. For example, DRS Armor X7 is modern but has a few proprietary drivers and software, working only under Win7. This utility helps.

Greetings. Has anyone had any success running the Toughbook Connection Manager successfully under Windows 10? I've tried the Windows 7 compatibility setting but when I run it I don't get a try icon and after around 5 minutes I get the message 'This application is not supported by this PC model'. I am attempting to run the connection manager on my CF-30, product id: CF-30KAPRQ2M. I believe I have a Gobi 1000 installed - the device driver reports the device as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 250C (COM5).
Thanks, Mark.ron_of_orange likes this. -

I'm just wondering if Gobi 2000 might be a little more modern even though it is a little "long in tooth".
I haven't tried W10 yet but I know Gobi 2000 works on a CF-30 MK-3. (as is yours)
250C is a Gobi 1000. 250D would be Gobi 2000.
A couple of things:
1. Be careful buying a Gobi 2000. Look for a T in felt marker on the Gobi card. (the picture) Means it was pulled from a toughbook.
2. I'll look it up if I don't forget....Sierra Wireless driver for Gobi 2000 and compatibility with W10.
After 20 minutes:
1. Did you try compatibility for XP?
2. Did you do power pull reset and set to defaults?Shawn likes this. -

Hello again
I tried Windows XP compatibility mode but that results in the same message. This was after a reboot having installed a different SIM card.
I will look out for a Gobi 2000 card - presumably the Toughbook variant is different due to firmware? Has anyone successfully installed an HP or Lenovo variant - presumably that would involve installing that manufacturers drivers/management software, so I guess it would depend on whether that was locked down to particular models.
I note that the only Windows 10 driver listed for Sierra Wireless cards currently is the Gobi 5000 EM7355 card for high-end Lenovo systems.
I have just bought a Windows 7 Pro COA so will find a spare drive and install that separately to see if the current Panasonic driver/connection manager works with my configuration.
Thanks, Markron_of_orange likes this. -
CF52 mk1 here. Windows 10 runs great... except there are no video card drivers anywhere. It's some weird ATI HD2300 model which looks like was forgotten by AMD. They have compatibility drivers for old cards... except this one
So generally Windows 10 runs on CF52 mk1 with the Generic Microsoft driver. It works... but all possible resolutions are 4:3 format. There is no option for 1920x1080 which is the native of the monitor. So it sucks. -
Have you tried this driver for HD2300?

Thanks for the offer (if it was directed at me)! As it happens I just purchased a Fujitsu Gobi 2000 card from eBay for £12 delivered so we will see if it works. I took the bottom off the CF-30 just now and have located the existing card underneath (on top of if the right way up) the battery. I'm sure I took all the screws out and kept them carefully in a plan layout, but seem to be missing one now! Isn't that always the way!

One last thing here - the screen on my CF-30 is quite yellow compared to my other LED backlit TFTs - am I right in assuming that is down to the use of CFL backlights - do these panels age at all? It wasn't as bright as I was expecting but it is very usable even in bright outdoor conditions.
The Panasonic info application states that this laptop has done around 31,000 hours but that value hasn't changed since I've been using it and the general condition of the box is top-notch so I guess it could have been used every day in an office environment but that seems a little unlikely.
I did also think that the backlight on the chicklet keyboard was pretty mediocre but apparently they are like that by design. It does work just fine in low light conditions, so can't really grumble, it just threw me a bit compared to some of the images on eBay of new keyboards. Maybe they upped the brightness at some point? -

Yep - found that button. It toggles between four levels of brightness. TBH it's fine, I don't think I'll bother messing with the LED voltages. -
the answer to your question about the ccfl versus led back lighting is correct ... ccfls will indeed shift in spectra as well as brightness as time goes on .
the voltage from the inverter has but little to do with the effect .
the inverters are pretty much a go/no-go device ...
there are cases where an electrolytic decoupling cap on the board will go south and create a problem but usually there is another symptom that manifests itself .
the fix is to replace both of the ccfl lamps ... one could also swap out the inverter for good measure .
some people will swap out the whole lid assembly with a low hour unit or one that looks darn good ...
so , you can have a unit with relatively low hours indicated in the bios (but was cosmetically dinged up) and a crappy looking dim display .
if you are thinking about swapping around the whole lcd with the back light as a unit ...
there is a method of polarization used on some units called "circular polarization" that reduces glare and improves readability in bright light ...
mixing certain touch screens with certain lcd assemblies will produce "technicolor swirlies" .
unless you have a pile of displays and know what is going on , you are better off to swap out the whole lid assembly or replace just the ccfls in your lcd assembly .

OK, So who has W10 running on a toughbook?
