That's really useful information thanks. I'd be quite happy to swap out the ccfls if there is a source that isn't too expensive.
The weird thing about this machine is that the bios is reporting a runtime in excess of 31,000 hours but the case is immaculate. The keyboard has seen some wear but not what I class as bad.

There are 2 or 3 threads describing the CCFL to LED swap in detail.
If you do a search you will find them. -
I did a clean install of Windows 10 on the CF30 mk3 again and found that without installing the Panasonic Windows 7 driver package virtually everything worked.
In fact the hotkeys issue went away and I was able to control brightness and volume without issue. I don't use any other hotkeys apart from the keyboard backlight so I'm happy. So if you do install the Panasonic driver package then I suggest removing the two Hotkey options via the Programs and Feature Control panel option.
I can also report that the Gobi 1000 modem works fine - not sure how I managed to cock up the last install in that sense. I'm using the AT&T connection manager with both EE and GiffGaff in the UK - primarily to provide text messaging. I unticked the 'control wifi' option - Win10 knows about the 3G modem and does a pretty good job without the connection manager. If you don't need text messaging capabilities I would go with the Windows managed option.
... and if you need a wireless mouse the Sumvision Paradox IV dongle will fit in one of the CF-30's rear USB ports and still allow the flap to be closed. The keyboard/mouse package is around £12 shipped from amazon.co.uk currently.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce my previous installation success of the SD Card reader. I thought it was due to the driver installed via driverscape.com but now I can't be sure. When I restored the previous backup of Win10 I found it still working, but I spent several hours with various versions of the Ricoh drivers and had no joy.
Linux reads it just fine however...Shawn likes this. -
I put Windows 10 on a CF-52GUN and had a strange problem so do me a favor and give it a try,use the touchscreen and hold the icon to right click for the menu.
When I did that it gave me some strange menu and would not open the program, browser or whatever.Methinks it was haunted.toughasnails likes this. -
Ubuntu: Windows 10 Update to Allow Users to Run Linux-Based OS Natively, Reports Say
The “Bash on Ubuntu on Windows” integration allows developers to run Linux software using a command-line interface, outlets reported Sunday. The feature will be part of the Aug. 2 update.Mark Wickens likes this. -
I got Windows 10 32 bit running on my CF-19 Mk2, CF-19FHGAXAM with 4 gb ram and a 250gb SSD. This was an automatic upgrade over Windows 7, which in turn was over an over the top upgrade from a factory install of Vista from a restore CD. Everything works. I had to upgrade the Intel Dynamic Power Performance Management MCH Driver with one from the Mk3 Windows 7 32 bit download from the Japan Panasonic website. The install program doesn't work, but I pointed the driver update to the .inf file, and it installed fine.
Automatic display rotation doesn't work as the program is incompatible with Windows 10, but the front rotation button works fine. The Win 10 upgrade also uninstalls the Fujitsu touchpad driver and installs a generic Microsoft driver, but it reinstalled fine.
There were some other unknown devices in Device Manager after I first did the upgrade, but most were from programs I know longer used, and I deleted them.
I used the Windows touchscreen calibration software. You have to delete the old settings first in the control panel, or it won't calibrate, but once I did, it calibrated great.
If you have a Gobi card installed, I'd recommend uninstalling the drivers and software first, as it was garbled by the Windows 10 install. Reinstall after 10 is installed. I'd also recommend uninstalling any software that installs "fake" device drivers, like emulation or virtual pc software.
I'd like to know if anyone has gotten 64bit Windows 10 to run well on the MK2, CF-19, what limitations there were, and what drivers you ended up using. I'd like to upgrade to 8gb of ram.ron_of_orange, onirakkiss and Shawn like this. -
I can't speak for the MK2 but W10 64-bit runs very well on my MK3, I believe the only difference is the speed of the processor, I'm sure someone more qualified will chime in soon.....

What did you use for drivers on your Mk3? Everything work?

A quick update on my Win 10 experience. I noticed an undesirable side effect of not loading the Panasonic Hotkeys driver. Whilst Win10 is able to control the brightness and sound level without having it 'fight' with the Panasonic driver (exhibiting the effect of the brightness resetting itself) if you press the Mute button then you don't get sound back! Even a hard reboot didn't fix this. So you need the Panasonic hotkeys driver installed really. Back to Win+A action menu, although I did quite like running at 90% brightness which isn't possible with that (0%, 25%, 50%, 100%). The difference on my CF-30 Mk3 between the highest two brightness settings is quite significant.

I used the bundled Win7 64bit driver load from the Panasonic website. The only thing not working is the Gobi 1000 card and the SD card reader.

That's what i gathered from my research as well. I have a pcmcia sd adapter card which works fine, so no big deal...

Interesting on SD card reader. Works fine on 32bit Win 10 on my Mk 2.

Nothing special. Installed Original Vista CD from Panasonic, installed Win 7 over the top of that a few years ago, and installed Windows 10 over top of that. All in place upgrades. I have another post elsewhere on this forum about the in place upgrade from Vista, and the upgrade to 10 is a few posts above this. The SD problems others are having may a be x32 vs x64 issue. Just works.

I got the SD card reader working, although I've not been able to reproduce exactly the right driver combination which is a shame for everyone else, and in case I need to start from scratch
Good news however is that the Gobi 1000 card works correctly under Windows 10 as does the GPS receiver. I believe I'm right in thinking that the GPS receiver is is a separate board in the CF-30 Mk3?
I bought a Fujitsu Gobi 2000 which I have yet to attempt installation of, I'm not sure I'll see much benefit, happy to be corrected. I had fun and games getting the DIP settings right, and I've not been brave enough to go through that pain again!Shawn likes this. -
For reference, my system currently has the GPS, latest stock WiFi card, DVD Super-Multi Drive, Smartcard Reader, SSD, backlit rubberized keyboard and a variety of other minor upgrades. The only one that was difficult to get working properly was the GPS.toughasnails likes this. -
I got slightly better results when I disabled drivers signatures and forced installation of a hacked ATI HD 2400 driver... it almost worked - it gave me HD resolution in 16:9 after installation; however after restart it reverts back to the Microsoft Generic driver and lists that one as a problematic one...
I failed to make the Microsoft Generic driver to work in 1920x1080... I followed registry edits tutorials, editing driver inf files and installing driver from another laptop - no good.Last edited: Aug 6, 2016 -
I switched from W 7 to W 10 a few weeks ago on my 54. I did not update a driver or program myself at all and it worked perfect. However......Panasonic released what they call a W 10 Upgrade program just days after I did switched. It's a funky program to say the least. It kept getting stuck on the last driver which was the WLAN. I tried for hours to get it to finish and finally called support. They were not much help to say the least. He did not even know they had such a program. My WLAN works fine so I just deleted the program.

Can you post a link to that program?

They added the Clean Install program this week as well. -
No good for my case, but still - thanks.

Look, my Windows 10 had to reboot today because this driver had to be installed (Windows update)
Isn't it cool Panasonic has finally uploaded some of their proprietary drivers to Windows drivers database?

I have W10 working on a CF53 Mk1.
Upgrade path was somewhat rocky. Toughrugged sold me the refurbished CF53 (very nice) but with W7 32bit. I managed to upgrade to W10 64bit. However, what I did was order the SSD caddy for the dvd drive, and put a 250GB SSD drive in that. W10 went onto the SSD drive, and W7 stays on the hard drive. I like that because I can always go back to W7 if I have problems with W10.
Initially I had some problems- when the machine sat for several hours in sleep mode, I would get a "device not accessable" blue screen. It would then run chkdsk on all my drives. I fooled with some bios settings, but ultimately I think I had a corrupted MBR and ended up running the windows repair tool. That fixed it and I have had no problems since- dual boots perfectly, no disk errors.
I did manually install the drivers for W7 64bit.ron_of_orange likes this. -
I like the use of a different drive for each OS
