Delete my post? why?
-
So its not promoted to all the enthusiasts here
So he has less competition on bidding on it
Alex -
ahhh lol... well then
-
<sniff>.... and I REALLY wanted that dock... <sniff, sniff>
Don't worry... I'm not ready for it yet anyway. Besides... I think my next one will be a carputer based upon a CF-28 or CF-29 hooked to a 7" in-dash touchscreen... -
Look at this awesome price for a CF-29. NON-touchscreen and 512 of ram with a 40 GB hd for only $2129.00. Why not just buy a CF-30?
http://cgi.ebay.com/PANASONIC-TOUGH...temQQptZLaptops_Nov05?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 -
Hmmm, CF-30 MKII, GPS, Rev. A WWAN, 120gbHD, 1 gig ram,Touch, Bluetooth, WLAN, etc, new with 3 year warranty, $2300 shipped.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220337693174&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012
It does make you wonder.
CAP -
That's who I bought my CF-30 from... I didn't pay too much more for it than that. I think I paid $2300 for mine... They are good guys to deal with I know that....
-
For those looking to make a swap from either a CD or plain DVD in their CF-28, I just bought a DVD burner (new Panasonic UJ-850) for $49.95 with free shipping on eBay. It will do dual layer burning, and while not the fastest out there, for my purposes it will do nicely. I am also in the process of adding the internal wifi and 3com cards. While I am in there, I am also looking at adding something in the RIM area (possibly with the daughterboard I just got). My word, these things can be addictive!

Cheap cd drive c/w caddy works in cf-27 + cf-28+ cf-29
Alex -
Thats who I bought mine from as well. They are great people to deal with over there. And, they followed up with a phone call 17 seconds after it was shipped.
-
I saw this earlier today, great deal!
-
Newly listed CF-30 on eBay, and at $1499 with free shipping, not a bad price for a new, open box unit.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...Track=true&ssPageName=VIP:Watchlink:middle:us -
That is a good deal but Im sure it will bid up over 2k tho and end up at an average price
-
... and no touchscreen.
-
Hello!?!?! They posted CF-29... but that picture is of a CF-30... probably a stupid typo maybe?
-
Spotted this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=270319565931
But the seller refuses to sell outside the USA! Sucks as it'd give me a CF28 with touchscreen, 1 ghz cpu and backlit kbd really cheaply.
No fair! mwah! Good bargain for someone in the US though.
Craig. -
I also spotted this one: an ultimate toughbook,
item no.170292793222
-
TEO'
That looks pretty good, anyone know anything about the guy? He sure has a weird user ID!
CAP -
He took the "Ultimate' name from me.... He sells the cheaper stuff... I bought one from him once as I needed it for a project. I got a good deal on it but didn't red through all the conflicting things his auction stated. I ended up getting less than what I thought I would... It was in pretty rough shape and needed a lot of work to make it right.... But that is the way it goes with Toughbooks!
-
Toughbook,
How many complete CF-28's and CF-29's have you sold on ebay over the years. Your stuff looks great. -
Rick,
If my last post on this thread seems a little off its because I didn't look at the auction, I thought Teo was referring to your current listing and thought I'd get in a little dig. That guy has been trying to sell stuff with not a lot of success for quite a while. "massive 30gb hard drive" indeed!
CAP -
It sure looks like he follows what we are doing on the forum
But from 2 years ago!
Rick and Teo are on the leading edge of Ultimate
The upgrades and options he is selling on his, are very easy mods explained to Newbies for free here every day
Alex -
He is just trying appeal to all audiences (computer stupid people too)... I used to do that at my old computer company while selling things on ebay... sales were better because of that lol
-
HEY! I resemble that remark!!
btw, I think Teo and Rick deserve raises!! -
This one has about 16 hours to go and still no bids (and no reserve). If the price listed (or anything close to it) could buy it, then you would get quite the deal!

How come when people are trying to get top dollar for a toughbook on Ebay they never get a rag and clean the case? I used a little rubbing alcohol on the case and the grease came right off. I'm sure a tiny bit of dish soap would work. They can't even clean the screen. Here is my toughbook for sale: It has a massive 10GB hard drive and don't worry about the stains because that is from when my baby puked on it and you will have to reload the drivers because I was to lazy to add them. happy bidding.
example picture.

coffey...You know this guy? I ask, coz I want to acquire one of his unit for sale but unfortunately he doesn't want to ship to Canada.
ohlip -
2 hours left, too bad its not touchscreen or I would have been all over it for that price
-
Not too bad of a deal for a c28 to build up or use for parts, I dont think I've ever seen this particular problem where the power and MP light up orange and it wont post?

This one does not have touchscreen either, but it is $100 less than the other. It does have free shipping also.

If this is legit, someone got a really good deal!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320330852974&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011
The seller has a few more listed with only a few hours to go. -
Holy crap that was a good deal
-
If the buyer ever gets what he's paying for
If you buy a mk-2 cf-30 far,far below dealer cost from a seller that has no history of selling toughbooks
And has a very low selling history
There are bad people out there, some even hijack a ebay account
And then they start selling some of the most expensive items around ,at unbelievable prices
You have to watch the newest higher value items
For us here that means cf-19’s and cf-30’s

I got screwed on my first CF-30 purchase from ebay... thank God for American Express account protection
-
I did try to cle..... uh, I mean, YA... That's disgusting man... Who would do such a thing...
-
I bid $30 on that rig and it only sold for $40. I should quit working so I can stay home and win those last minute bids.
ohlip,
No I never deal with him before. -
Yeah, that was kinda my reaction... go ahead, leave it looking like BARF... if it means I can buy your Touchscreen Mk2 for 60 bux, I'm crying alla way to the bank... LOL

He walks, he talks, he crawls on his belly like a reptile... Come one, come all... see the Wild Man of Borneo.... -
what happened? Seller never sent it? If some one did that to me I would pay them a visit. I just hope it never comes to that. Would I be covered with a normal credit Union(bank) Credit car?

About 2 years ago I got a phone call at 10PM from a guy who wanted to know why I hadn't shipped his $1500 gold coin that he bought from me on eBay. Of course I hadn't sold the coin. I couldn't log on to eBay, my password had been changed. eBay was great, got them straightened out with one phone call, like- wise Comcast where my email had been hacked. PayPal refunded the money which was in my account, but it took 6 months to get my account re-activated.
I was running McAfee fully updated and some other stand alone security programs. I learned three major lessons from this.
1. If you see a deal that looks too good to be true on eBay, but "the seller has 540 positive feedback" look at the feedback. If the 540 items are all antique porcelain dolls and you're looking at a brand new CF-30, the account has been hacked.
2. I now use Kaspersky IS which will not let any executable file run on my computer until I have approved it the first time. If Firefox downloads an update Kaspersky asks me before it is allowed to install. If a program wants to automatically log on for updates, Kaspersky asks me before it is allowed to access the internet. This slows things down a little bit, but it keeps the creeps out.
3. I have deduced that the hack probably happened while I was using the wireless connection in the Homewood Suites I was staying at. I now only access the internet with my Verizon aircard when I am not on a trusted network. Wifi hotspots are fertile hunting grounds for thieves.
This is all pretty basic, but I'm not new at this, and I was shocked at how easily and fast someone got far enough into my life to be potentially a real problem.
CAP -
Capt, This is off topic, but relates to your last post. I have my new HDD installed. Of course my computer is feeling like a virgin right now. When I was at Buytough yesterday he said if you just run a good anti virus program you will be fine. When I am on the internet, 95% of the time I am on my Verizon card, the other 5% it's on my home wi fi, which is highly secured. I run FF thru my IronKey, which has of course very high security while browsing plus it has a Malware protection on it.
My question is, Do you think I should run an anti virus, and if so is Kapersky pretty good for you. I have the Norton 360, but really would like to get by without installing that back on my OS.
Thanks -
Symantec and MacAfee will SLOW your system down to a crawl. You need a good firewall as your first line of defense... Then a good antivirus. I have used Zone Alarm (Both the Free version and the paid version with antivirus) for years along with AVG antivirus and have NEVER been hacked or had a virus. Of course I don't surf Limewire or too many sites... uhem... But you get my drift... Personally I'd rather have Zone Alarm before anything else. It also has the blocker installed when any program wants to access the Internet that it asks first.
Just my two cents... -
Toyo,
I'm no expert, but I did a fair amount of research and by all expert accounts Kaspersky Internet Security is the best. You can find one year licenses on eBay for around $20. You down load the 30 day trial and the eBay seller will email you the activation code. I like it, there may be others that are as good, but I am very happy with Kaspersky, and it doesn't slow things down much. Maybe a couple of seconds down loading a bunch of emails which it also scans and quarantines in a separate space to give you a chance to check them before you move them to your inbox.
CAP -
I'll have to lok into that one... But I will never use MacAfee or any Symantec product again... Especially one you look at all the processes they hog and threads they are in... It even slows down my 3.4 Ghz Desktop!
-
I use AVG v8 Free edition
I used norton Internet Security up to v2007 and liked it but found it a resource hog ,and 360 is probably worse, I have not had any issues with avg in the older hardware, and it seems to be working as well as the norton product
I have spybot search &destroy installed as well to protect the computer from spyware
60% of the time my web use is on my vista installations and the rest of the time xp pro
Vista has even tighter security in comparison to xp
Alex -
I prefer AVG 8 i use it on all my machines. never had a problem
Like everyone else said stay away from norton products they hog resources like crazy.
-James -
I hear you all and as I said, there may be equally good solutions. On the subject of speed, while doing my research I stumbled on a site which tested security software, I don't remember which one. They ran speed tests using big downloads, etc. Some of the big name brands added between 200-300% to the time needed to download large files while scanning for spyware, malware, viruses and the like. IIRC, Kaspersky added 5-10% to the time, one of the reasons I chose it. It updates its files 8-10 times a day, but I only know that from opening up the update log, it is completely invisible to me and never interferes with my use. If it updates when I first turn on the computer, it takes 30-45 seconds to update all of its files. I love it and highly recommend it.
