LOL angry at me? We should just request to lock the thread
-
*POLEAXED*
Huh? Whodat? WhaddISayWrongThisTime?:confused2:
mnem
I'd have you sign my banana, but it's on the roof. -
No... We should just concentrate on what the thread title is....
Do you know of a good ebay deal? -
You're all welcome
... I take pride in exposing the deals out there for Toughbooks... I didn't think this thread would turn into such a hit with 350+ replays and almost 11,000 unique views
I think if we all expose this little niche market enough then MAYBE just MAYBE the prices will continue to come down. (Okay I lied, I honestly have no faith in the prices dropping
)
But I do think that it's funny that that ebay seller is trying to pawn off all the questions to us... even if he is a member here... Oh well, I don't mind giving a little bit
-
There are two forces at work here.. And I think they equalize each other...
1. The economy is bad so the prices come down.
2. The economy is bad so Toughbooks that might be upgraded are being pressed back into service by states, counties, etc., thereby being rarer... So the price goes up.
All this means.... We'll still pay about the same!
On a separate note... I worry about all the unique views. I'm greedy and don't want to share EVERYTHING... I'd hate to think that ebayers are viewing this thread to see what to buy next according to US who KNOW Toughbooks!
Maybe we should open up a new thread about Dwagons and Knights... That would be our little codeword for the thread....
-
Naaah...
Make it Dwagons & Pwincesses; they're much tastier than Knights and less filling
Mnem
As a fellow mythical beast I can tell you; when a unicorn meets a virgin, it isn' his head he puts in her lap. -
LOL! Anyways I agree its an interesting market with both things Toughbook talked about above working against each other
-
Yes Rob its a popular thread
Everyone on the forum is also on the auction sites as well and its nice to have the educated opinions of the regular members here posting the good deals

This is what I am talking about... The sellers are using us for a PRICING GAUGE! The seller just ended the item and upped the price.
Let's vote... Should we close this thread? All it's doing is upping the Toughbook prices all over ebay!
EDIT - I'm Serious about this.. Not kidding in the least! -
Well I'm really looking for the good deals
And most of the regular contributors here are the same way
Are you saying that lurkers are taking advantage of this and are using this to determine a fair market value, or what we as experts consider a good deal
Alex -
THIS SUCKS!!! By the time I figured I had enough to buy one it's ended. I'm done with posting up on the good deals thread.
-
Lock it up, I'm done
-
How about these:
-- we all like great deals, but are now afraid to talk about them because of the bottom feeding scavengers that monitor this forum
-- we don't really want to give up the option to notify true members
-- let's set up a network within the PM messaging -or-
-- use regular email and only give out each other's address to those that are regular members and are trusted to keep the info internal, this way wew could establish a distro list and can add/subtract members as necessary and will always send to everyone who cares
Thoughts? -
I don't know. It's like telling other officers where your hiding hole is when running radar. Next thing you know their camped out in YOUR spot!!!
-
How would that be done, privately, through a moderator, software? Sounds complicated. I say to each their own, lets just go back to hunting our own good deals.
-
Try doing what I did already in the buy and sell section
I was a bit optimistic on my wants and the price
If any of the regulars here want something, do what I did ,place a WTB and we will PM you when we find something
Does that make sense?
And I will edit my wanted to not be a hog and to reflect what I really want as we will all post that we want a new cf-30 for $1000 etc lol
Alex -
Post your WTB but replies should be sent through PM, even good deals seen.
-
Agreed, nothing should be on public forum for sellers to search, it makes it hard for us too later on if we want to sell something we picked up because if we got it cheap nobody wants to pay a fair price, they only wanna low ball because they know your cost
-
I agree with you 100%. I have NO PROBLEM either giving parts to someone on the forum (As I have done many, many times here to PARTICIPATING members), doing work for someone on the forum, (whether it be free or enough $ to cover my time and/or parts), posting my "Secrets" (As A LOT of other forum members have done to help the "Group") and just trying to help and contribute as much as possible and time will allow.
But what burns me, and I have expressed this in the past, is that there are a many lurkers, filtchers and other such scum that capitalize on our efforts to help others and each other. That is NOT why I participate here.
I know that some will disagree with me and say "that is the nature of the beast"... And I still want to be able to help others out... But not to help them learn new ways to integrate products or how to PRICE their products!
I will not arbitrarily close this thread but the majority will rule here.... What you guys say will go!
However the coin lands... I will not participate in this thread except on an as needed basis per forum policy.
Rick -
I like the idea of an email chain or group PM of some sort. A couple hungry individuals have teamed up at work to spot free food and use an email group to send out notices of meeting leftovers, open parties with good grub, etc. Pretty funny really, but effective.
-
The Vulture Club ?
-
Oh man. I nearly had to call the paramedics I laughed so hard on that one. I am going to have to talk to our email admin and see if he will change the name of the distribution list. That is hilarious.
-
We might consider a Yahoo Groups forum for the good deals. You would have to be invited to get the email that way and it would not be a public forum then.I do like the Idea of posting up good deals.
-
This is the pitfalls of having an open forum. An Email Broadcast makes it more private but I'd probably remove this thread because a quick reading of the last few pages of this may give some the wrong impression besides the "lurking and jacking of prices" that have bugged a few.
Thanks,
SIN -
Wyrm.. So, you gonna set the "Vulture Club" e-mail adresses? Lol.
ohlip -
All I kin say is they hain't bin a single one o 'dem gots enny info frum me... Ah ain't no squeeler dwagon, nope...
mnem <~~~Cheap Bahstahd Dwagon~~~* -
Well... I just bought another CF-18 touchscreen and bluetooth with OEM recovery disks and a Dock mount. A little pricy at $550 but I figure with the disks and dock.... It may make up for it..
-
If its in good shape all said and done with the extras thats not too bad
-
I posted in the other thread that Alex opened up and I think that we should create a password protected page (If you can do that Rick)... If not I will offer my web server to host a forum dedicated to Toughbook deals if we want.
Let me know.
Thanks -
LOL Talk about a NOT so good deal, I thought this would get everybody to laugh a little
http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-Toughbook-CF-29-CF29-For-Parts-Repair_W0QQitemZ130294287200QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLaptops_Nov05?hash=item130294287200&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 -
Yes, I saw that but thought I better not add it as I would be laughed at
Alex -
Everyone laughs at me anyway so Its ok
-
It! I didnt even get any new toys to play with!
-
Hey but has bluetooth.
-
Even so thats an absurd price for one without a screen or anything, I just bought pretty much the same thing minus BT shipped internationally for $80
-
Ahhh... So YOU were the other winner! I bought one of them... The last one actually. I barked at the guy for delaying in getting back to me on my offer. I guess I can't blame him... They were going strong for $80 each and I offered $70... But he did have a few for $70 that had mouse issues. It looked like someone hit the mouse pad hard and dented it... No wonder there were issues! He felt bad for taking time in getting back to me he made me a good deal for both the last laptop plus one of his others. I needed the mobos.
By the way... I think the "Ebay Deals" must be showing up on Google or something because Unique Views went up by over 1000 in less than a week. That can't possibly be just people stopping by here.... That has to be Google. -
Seach for "toughbook ebay deals" the first two results are the forums here...
-
Like I said... We just need to redo a thread entitled "Muddy Boots by the door" or something stupid like that.... Then we wouldn't have an issue.
-
Yeah he had like 6 available or something and I bought one but there were still 3 left after me. It was just as promised, even had a floppy in it lol Great deal for a bottom with extra parts, the palmrest is almost brand new.
Agreed, lol a code name would be awesome to avoid search engines -
Connor did you get my (and Alex's) PM?
-
Yup thanks!
-
hi i just bought this off ebay (item 220381020202) has any one bought one of these and are they any good
