So bag, case, laptop, mouse, mouse pad, headphones, pen, and spare cell phone battery weighs about nine pounds, and is really easy to pack up and go. Nice Razer!

Plugged it all the way so the out silver part is not showing? It's pretty stiff to stick in.

Can anyone post up dimensions for the shipping box the Razer Blade 14 comes in and the subsequent box(es) inside? Some weight info would be great as well... I need this cause I'm shipping this baby all the way to Singapore

Interesting development. I received an update from Razer saying my order would ship tomorrow due to overwhelming demand. Now of course the question is whether this is just a phantom push back or real.... If real it would be a marked improvement to the lack of communication and a smart move on their part.

    Over communicating? :)

    2:49am
Thank you for ordering from The Razer Store. The following product(s) have shipped. If you paid by credit card, your credit card has now been charged.

    8:54am
Due to overwhelming demand, your order placed on 7/1/2013 for scheduled shipment on 7/8/2013 has been delayed to 7/24/2013.

I have a tracking number, so I'm guessing this one snuck out.

    I got this e-mail today:

Due to overwhelming demand, your order placed on 7/10/2013 for scheduled shipment on 7/24/2013 has been delayed to 7/25/2013.

We sincerely apologize for the delay and seek your understanding as our production facilities are running at full capacity to meet the demand without compromising for the high standards of quality that we are known for.

For avoidance of doubt, if you have chosen to pay by credit card, it will only be charged upon shipment.

Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you and we look forward to shipping you your order soon.

    Sincerely,
    Team RazerStore

Ummm ok.... I have a hard time believe my laptop will ship this week.

I hope they all ship. Moronic if they are just sending out spam emails. But the fact that your shipment date was pushed to the 25th and mine says 24th suggests that there is at least some understanding on logistics and dates could be solid. Will be interesting to see.

    Noob questions here.

How does one upgrade to Windows 8.1 and why would one want to? Is doing so basically like reinstalling Windows which means I'd have to re download all my stuff?

I wasn't much of an updater in Windows 7 since it was so user friendly and nothing really needed fixing. But since 8 could use a few tweaks, I'm considering upgrading if i knew what it was about. Any help would be great!

Also, does anyone know how to make the Blade use the headset/earphone mic when testing it? It always seems to be using the built in one even if I have a Kraken Pro or Hammerhead Pro plugged in.

you confuse user friendliness with more of the things you are used to. things were static for windows since 95. win 8 changes a some of that UI, but its not nearly enough change. aside that misconception, win 8 is a better OS.

Looks like shipping dates for new orders have dropped to 1 week again. I have a feeling that Razer is trying to maximize profit ont heir new systems by not hiring new workers or expanding their production lines. They're probably just pushing the resources they have as hard as they can, rather than reinvesting some of their profits into helping keep up with demand. At least the logistics and communication are getting a bit better.

Ordered my blade pro 512GB on July 2nd, got shipping notification last week, and its arriving today (camped out for the FedEx truck).. Considering the 4th of July holiday, just over 2 weeks, so really not bad at all!

On another note, was there ever an update on the internal sata cable for the pro 17 to add a 2.5" SSD?

Placed my order on the 16th it was due to ship on the 21'st according to Razer received an email this morning (23rd) stating that it was delayed due to overwhelming demand and that it is due to ship on the 25th. I at this point I would have to say that I have a very pessimistic view of whether this new date will hold firm. I'm still hoping so though....

Windows 8.1 will come as an update through Windows Update. You don't need to do anything, it's free. Drivers shouldn't be affected. Windows 8 is a big improvement, faster boots, wakes, shut downs, faster searching and other improvements. If you don't like the new Start Screen you can always install a 3rd party start button like Start8. I've also found that Windows 8 also 'strains' the hardware less (less fan noise and longer battery life on the same system).

Since my relatives are actually from the US, they had a credit card and matching shipping address that we actually used, so that part was taken care of.

Sadly I haven't had experience on getting around the need for a US based credit card, sorry :(

Sounds great, will consider it more so when I get my system back then :)

Maybe I am nitpicking here, does anybody with the Razer 14 hear their AC adapter make noise? The laptop is almost completely silent, but the power brick makes a high pitched squeal which, though low in volume, I am finding very annoying and distracting in an otherwise quiet environment. Oddly enough, when I start gaming and it requires more power, the tone becomes more quiet.

Control Panel > Devices > Sound > Manage Sound Devices > Input (I think it's called Recording in Windows) select the Kraken's input.

Yeah I spoke to an HIDevolution rep last night and he said that Razer had told them to expect the Blades 14 and 17 sometime late July and now early August. I asked him if he thought it'd be pushed back into September and he said, and I quote, "I really wouldn't be surprised. They aren't very on top of things". I really hope that distributors get it sometime in August.

I kind of wish I could find out if Razer is expanding production at all or if they're just working the same underpaid workers even harder, lol.

I think at this point Razer has given up on trying to work toward meeting demand and instead is just waiting for it to die down. And I thought my joke about getting to distributors before Halloween was just a joke...

I like the U series from cooler master, though the fans are nothing to write home about, you can buy and get other fans for it, more silent and with better HFM

Just got my razer blade yesterday, now in indonesia travelling. I got to sy, its pretty good in all aspects. Coming from an mbp, windows 8 feels slow, and i see the disappointment in the screen, but all in all quiet impressed with the laptop. Im just glad mine came with no defects.

PS i cant lie down and use the laptop because the fan starts clicking, anyone have the same issue?

    hey guys.

I have my Blade for about 3 weeks now.

I am having a great experience! absolutely great!

However, there is a thing that worries me a bit: every time the is something loading (a web page, a app/program or even during games, a new level or something) there a very strange noise coming from within the laptop. Its very hard to describe, probably like a short circuit sound, or a small fin touching the fan or something like that.
I assume, because it's only when something is loading, it's to do with the SSD?

    Should I be worried?

Please note I am in the UK...so sending the laptop back is no option. However it's the 512 version and I really wouldn't want to loose that SSD...

When I had mine it also had a clicking fan noise. I'll let you guys know if it's normal when I get the replacement. Ordered on June 26th. One month later and still no laptop. Plus they have already charged me! Maybe it's for the best. I am presenting my thesis thursday and it would only distract me more.

I doubt it's the SSD since it has no moving parts, so there couldn't be a clicking sound coming from it. Most definitely the fan, the loading part is probably just a coincidence

I don't know what it is, but its definitely not a coincidence the fact that the clicking sound kinda changes frequency whenever a scene in a game is loaded.
For example, in Grid 2, while in the loading screen between races, you sometimes get freezes while loading; that exact time, during the freeze, the clicking frequency changes, and after the freeze has gone, it changes again...

It's really strange. I know the only moving moving parts in the laptop are the fans, but it cannot be those. I tend to think of the sound more of a electrical clicking...

I don't really know if I can record this behaviour, but I will try one of these days, in a quite room or something like that...

I just really hope nothing bad happens...

When my fans were at low speed, I heard the clicking, but at higher speed it went away. Might be the same thing.

About to use a U3 Cooler Master with it, I agree that the fans have more to be desired for, but it's one of the few coolers I've found that actually matches the design of the Blade, in a way.

I don't know though, so far I've really enjoyed the form and size of the Blade Pro, I'm afraid adding a cooler might change that. I'll update you.

Have you tried plugging in earphones or headsets to try and hear the sound?

This sounds very similar to mine, a static or electrical sound as there is activity within the Blade Pro, except mine could only be heard with earphones or headsets on. Is it coming straight from the Blade or from the speakers too?

I have not tried with headphones. As soon as I do I will post the findings.

the sound seems to be coming from the centre of the laptop, definitely not the speakers.

I see. Well that rules out a potential grounding problem for the speakers, since they seem to be a common issue on the Blades lately, myself included.

Just wanted to make sure it wasn't only mine. The cord is long enough to put it on the floor, so it's not next to the computer. Otherwise, the Razer 14 is whisper quiet and I hear nothing from the fans unless doing hardcore gaming.

I have also got the new NVIDIA beta drivers of the 326.19 version work without any modification, you have to click search for beta drivers on NVidia's site when you put in your machine.

Been following this thread for a while before I finally ordered a blade (512) last week.
Has anyone else who has received the email about the back order (we would have shipped yesterday...but now please forgive us and for we must ship Thursday...) received shipping info on the day it was supposed to ship out? They said mine would ship tomorrow and I want to know if I should hold my breath ;).
Funny thing is, by my calculation of 5 business days they would only be off one day...

I also have the orochi, it's not bad for as small as it is, which makes it super portable, but for fps and such it is a tad small and I don't love it. Much prefer the mamba, death adder, and imperator. Still more often than not the orochi is the mouse that comes with me as its so easy to pack up and no wires.

I'm getting the Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse (BT).
This is more of a power-user machine for me than a gaming machine (using for running simulations for research...& games), so getting a mouse that uses gestures w/ win 8 seems like a more useful buy for me.

By the way, despite the screen, I'm surprised how many people aren't reporting this thing as a good research machine (for computational work). For me it was really between this and the Macbook Pro Retina.

I'm planning on buying an Orochi 2013. I'm claw so do you guys think I should sell my Mamba, Sidewinder X6 and original Deathadder and just keep this? I don't use them at all since I go to college and need a small wireless mouse, not a wired one (or wireless with a huge base ala Mamba)
