Seeing as how adding that second msata would need you to open up the Blade, then yeah it voids your warranty. As far as I know, simply just opening up the Blade already voids your warranty.

According to an earlier poster who opened up his blade, there is no physical seal or sticker that will indicate if someone has opened it or not, so I think it is safe to open and install an mSATA but if you have problems, just remove it before you send it in. One way I guess they could check is if you damaged the screw heads in any sort of way, but that would seem like a far fetched solution to check for tampering.

Razer's official policy is that opening it up voids it, very similar to MSI's policy. But the funny thing is, if you open an MSI (like my GE70), you actually have to remove a security sticker showing "warranty voided if sticker is tampered with". But that sticker doesn't actually void the warranty, I've sent mine in after removing the sticker and they fixed my laptop. So I think companies like Razer and MSI just do this to scare off a large majority of people, and Razer seems pretty successful because it tempts people to buy the $2300 512GB Blade when someone could instead buy the $1800 128GB Blade, buy a Crucial M500, Mushkin Atlas 480GB for ~$400 and have 608GB in their Blade for $2200.

PS: I bought the 512GB Blade but plan to upgrade because I need at least 750GB ish of storage for music and games. I bought the 512GB because student discount gives more money off for higher priced laptops and the 480GB-512GB mSATA SSD seem to be scarce right now.

^How exactly did you get a student discount? I didn't know razer did that. I'm a college kid too and would love to save some $$$

I know Razer has a very specific student discount program. I believe it's more focused towards design students from a particular school - last I checked it was only one school that had its name in the program. Dunno if that was geo blocked or if it was just that limited. Same thing goes with indie game devs, I belive. You get a discount as well.

IMO, that sounds ridiculous. Even with the lid closed, there is a gap where heated air can be pushed out.

I'm able to run recent 2013 games at 1080p mostly high settings with much weaker graphics card and worse cooling in my 2009 envy 15. I doubt the Blade would overheat and shut down every time you run a game with the lid closed. You should definitely use a good quality laptop cooler, however.

They still want $900ish for them pm841s. Anyone find a decent price? I wouldn't mind adding one. Got the 128. Once I've had it for a while (few months), plan to 1st add a 2nd mSata then later upgrade the one that came with it. Mushkin 480GB mSatas go for $500ish, so I can't see why they want so much for the 512GB ones.

You have to be a student at Full Sail, Digipen, Art Institute (they have multiple campuses) or Republic Polytechnic to get 10% off coupon. Or if you have a friend who goes to any of the above all they do is submit their email address and they get a coupon code you can use at checkout (not sure if they can verify it since all you do is enter the coupon in the promo code box at checkout)

Last question, wheres the best place to buy from? Amazon says they're still on preorder but razer's site says ships in 5 business days, but they want to charge me $125 in tax....

Min says temps will go up with lid closed but "should be fine". I think I would just leave it open if temps are going to be going higher than they already are..

    ^
Amazon will probably only get it towards August or September, so it depends on how early you want it. I would avoid the tax and wait for Amazon.

Also, looks like Kojaku finally calmed down now that a CEO responded to him :S

Edit: just saw his conversation with Min. This guy must have a real stick up his butt or something to be so mad over nothing. I'm happy waiting 3 weeks if need be to receive a laptop that's heavily over demand right now. Calm yo tats, Sean

Thanks lukaskt. Yeah I dunno, if the temps go up when the lid is closed... I might just have to figure out a different setup in my dorm.

EDIT: Can anyone test out the temps with the RB 14" closed, gaming, and on an external display preferably 1080p?

The initial layout I was planning to do was external monitor pushed into the far back of the desk and put the laptop in the keyboard compartment. Sorry for not clarifying.

Hey, I hold them to a high standard, just like I said before. Its nice to actually hear something from them finally. At least now I know it's pretty much in Amazon's hands at this point. You can say I have a stick up my butt all you want, but I expect nothing less from a company that a lot of us have thrown thousands of dollars at :)

Also, I doubt it'll take all the way till September. I have a feeling that if the ship estimate drops to next or same day shipping sometime in July, that we'll def see the Blade 14 with distributors in early to mid August. It seems like gamer demand is starting to equalize a bit with supply (except for the 128gb apparently). I think we'll be seeing one day shipping by month's end (assuming there isn't some new boom of orders from kids leaving for college or something, which could very well happen, I suppose).

I can tell you this, when it does rev up is nothing compared to the New Sony Pro 13. That has a mind of it's own and is loud.

thats pretty impressive, The bottom does allow some heat to escape when the lid is closed so it may be enough space that it is pushing it below the closed lcd? Personally I would still leave the laptop open if possible during long gaming sessions. Thank you for posting your results.

The estimated delivery date for my package on the Fedex tracking page suddenly went from today 7/22 to N/A.
Also the tracking hasn't been updated at all since: 7/19/2013 - Friday - 10:28 pm Shipment information sent to FedEx.

Fwiw my Blade is being sent from Ontario, CA to BundleBox, a mail-forwarding company in Louisville, KY (that I know someone else in this thread used successfully) by what was supposed to be 1-2 day delivery.

I don't have much experience with Fedex, mail-forwarding companies and shipping stuff in the US in general, does anyone know if this is bad news or just a standard delay?

From what I understand, FedEx hasn't actually picked up the Blade from Razer yet? If they haven't, I wouldn't worry about the estimated delivery date yet, since as far as I know, the shipping time you choose only starts when it's actually picked up. The estimated delivery date could change without notice too, from what I've experienced. Could be for the earlier or more delayed.

I wouldn't worry yet, but maybe at most ask Razer what's keeping it from being picked up if it isn't in the next day or two.

I really would not bet on Amazon. I've been waiting over a month there and honestly none of the supervisors know a thing. Let's just face facts. Amazon won't be getting any product until back orders are resolved and that is probably a few weeks away at least for most versions of the Blade.

I ordered my 17" 512gb on June 30th, and it shipped on July 15th. I am really pleased with it so far. The screen is beautiful, it's powerful, quiet and overall just a fine piece of machinery. My only quibble is this: as someone who needs their laptop to look good in a boardroom, as well as play games, I'd like to be able to disable the lighted symbol on the cover. I do that with my Mambas, and it allows a gaming toy to fit better in the business world.

Here Here... I hate that Razer symbol.... it's why I am ditching the 17'' in favor of the 14''.... I need something a bit less flashy for a business setting.

Also I would add that I think the 770m should be used in the Razer Blade 17'' inch...

You cannot turn off the Razer logo. It is just the backlight of the LCD shining through glass. The only way to turn it off is to turn off your screen, or to put something over it!

I did a 7 hour civ V session on the blade 14 last night and I have to say it really did well. Performed like a champ. Once I got wrapped up in my game, the screen was wonderful. Viewing angles not so great, but the matte is really nice for long sessions of gaming and I totally forgot about it once I was wrapped up in the game.

The full performance on battery is awesome too... need to unplug for a bit and head into the kitchen for a snack? No worried, just get the plug later cause it won't really matter. Couldn't do that with my 17" alienware.

The size as well, it fits into any bag I have no problem. Just picked up the 14" case logic sleeve and its great on the width, a little too deep, but I might put some extra foam in the bottom anyway for extra protection so I think i will keep it.

Anyway, I was reserved at first about this lappy, what with the screen and other issues, but I am head over heels for this thing. I love it.

I emailed them today. they said, "There are still some Blades on the backorder, but they should be shipping out shortly. Most up to date estimates of ship dates are on our website under each of the model/hard drive size". the 256gb, the model I want, says ships in 5 business days, the only problem for me is tax.... Has everyone who has already recieved theres order directly from razer and just sucked it up and paid the 6.25% tax on their machine?

I thought the logo was a bit garish, even on the 14, so I made a custom, color-swapped version of my company's logo and made 3-inch stickers of it to cover the Razer logo when mine gets in.

Would have been nice if we had the option to turn the green light off. If it were a plain black or lightless logo, I think it would have been more acceptable in a professional environment. I don't see how it could differ from a fruit though, as a boss I'd probably appreciate three snakes. Lol.

Hello guys, I would first like to say that the my blade is awesome. I have just one question to ask you all. I don't know if I am bad luck but my Blade R2 had an issue that sometimes when I plug in the AC, it would say plugged in, not charging. When I sold my Blade R2 and got the Blade 14" 512gb, IT happened again. There are times when I plug in the AC, it would say "plugged in, not charging". I don't know if I am bad luck with it or does this happen to some of you that own the Blade?

    Razer Blade - 13.58" x 9.25" x 0.66"

    Samsonite Aramon NXT 13" - $18
    13.75" x 9.75" x 1.0"
    Samsonite Aramon NXT 14" - $15
    14.5" x 10.5" x 1.0"
    Case Logic PLS-14 Sleeve - $18
    13.5" x 10.1" x 1.5"
    Case Logic LAPS-114 Sleeve - $14
    13.5" x 9.7" x 1.7"
    Case Logic PAS-215 Sleeve - $35
    14.4" x 9.9" x 1.0"
    Case Logic LHS-115 Sleeve - $45
    14.3" x 9.8" x 0.9"
    Case Logic QUS-214 Sleeve - $30
    13.7 x 9.3" x 0.8"

You guys think I should go with the 13" Aramon NXT case since its the closest to the dimensions (aside from the QUS, which is a clamshell sleeve)

Just to let everyone know, I went with a refurbished Retina Macbook Pro 15 because of the amazing screen and the sufficient processor, ect. I planned to run Windows all the time cause I'm was accustomed to it, but after using OSX, I actually prefer it over Windows for everything but gaming. Razer definitely took a couple cues from Apple and did a nice job with the Blade. If only it had a better screen, I would have gotten it. But now, I don't think I'm ever going back to a Windows PC lol.
