I see. Thank you for this info!
I'm hoping this is just an nvidia driver issue, since I never got this type of BSOD before. I'll update as well if I know more!

Going back to the problem of static noise when using phones. Did someone found any fix or that? i realized i also have it and it only manifests when power source is plugged in, could it be the power brick that is defective ? or is it a design problem of the blade?
edit: it also manifests when on battery, when playing a movie for example. But it is much lower than with the power brick.
The only moment when static goes away is under battery and idle. -
Does the static noise sound like a 'watery current' noise? Which gets louder/intensifies with more HDD/CPU usage?
If yes to any of my questions, it sounds a lot like the problem I had with my RBP. I heard that it's a common grounding issue with such thin laptops. Mine disappeared when on battery though... -
I've had those issues when i first got my Blade Pro. What i did first was to do a complete restore to factory default. However, even after that, i still get the same issue. I'm not too sure what is the real cause of this because i went back to the shop i bought the laptop from and got it replaced. The replaced unit that i received did not have the same issue and is performing fine. Maybe we got a lemon?

Razer insisted over the phone I needed to RMA it, but Newegg CLAIMS that after 12 hours of what they called "pc benchmark" it had no failures and is not defective. I should have it back today or tomorrow, and then I'll be able to do some more testing.
I suspect at some point I'm going to have to RMA to Razer, but it doesn't SEEM like a hardware failure. -
I'm leaning on it not being a hardware issue as well, since I never had this type of problem before and it seems to have surfaced only from the new drivers. Hopefully it doesn't 'break' anything, lol.
-
yes and yes. Yesterday i was in a very quiet place and realized that the static is proportional to the amount of work the laptop is doing.
Also, the static varies depending on the headphones. Yesterday i was using those that get inserted very deep in the ears, and come with integrated bass. I think that the standard headphones that cover the ear competely have much less. -
It really sounds like my grounding issue, in that case. I had to RMA it to get it resolved

Razer Blade 14" owners.... Have a few questions for you.
First of all, coming from Alienware (had pretty much every model at one point or another) I can say that I loved my M18x (R1) and my M14x (R2) but the Razer Blade is on a completely different category, truly a mobile gaming laptop.
My questions:
1) If I was to upgrade my SSD and replace it for two M500 480gb on a RAID 0, from what I understand, this can be done, however has anyone actually attempted to replace the existing drive? I'm assuming RAID 0 is supported by BIOS? DOes anyone have a video/pictures of the process?
2) If I do replace the drives, where can I get the version of Windows 8 that came with my laptop? is there a way to get it from a Razer "cloud"? I did not receive a DVD/USB with the Win 8 source files. Also, would like to get the "look and feel" Razer has on their installs
3) I cannot seem to get into the BIOS, I hit F1/DEL on post one at a time or both simultaneously with no luck. What am I missing?
4) Has anyone created a good Monitor Calibration profile that they can share?
5) I understand the latest drivers don't work with the Blade, so updating them through Nvidia Experience is not something Razer recommends?
6) What are the recommended Killer drivers being used?
7) This laptop is incredibly silent, I mean pretty scary, running 3DMark, I can't hear any fans at all... is this normal??
8) However, what I can hear is a very soft chirping/fast clicking for 3-4 seconds when I load an app, it's random but it;s there.... any thoughts as to what the clicking can be? It does not happen when gaming, seems to only happening when launching an app for example. Not sure if I should return it to Amazon for a new one, but curious to see if anyone else has this issue.
Thanks for all the help -
I wonder what is the technical reason for this to occur. Since i live very far from the United States, I will have to open the laptop one day and see if i can do something, with the help of a friend which is an electrical engineer. For the moment i can live with it, but if one day i am willing to sell it, i will have to solve it.
-
I'm no tech expert here, but the info I could get regarding the issue was revolved around something along the lines of bad wiring and/or components. I feel you, I RMA'd mine all the way from SEA.

Ugh! Speaking of RMA'ing, how's the video_tdr_failure Elly? Did rolling back resolve it for you? -
It doesn't seem to occur quite that often, I've gotten it three times over the course of a week (with similar gaming patterns/times for each day). So I can't attribute it to overheat or overuse, nor does it seem to be caused by a specific action/program either. It's a mystery to me atm, since it doesn't seem to show any possible causes.
I haven't rolled back on either OS/NVIDIA yet. I can't reinstall my OS at the moment since I haven't made a Windows 8 USB drive or have any way of reinstalling it (I don't know how to on W8)
I will look into rolling back my NVIDIA driver to the previous WHQL one though. Will update! -

F9 at startup will take you to recovery mode where you can restore your drive back to stock. I've done it twice this afternoon so far.
So here's my update since I got the machine back this afternoon. Unless there are some people out there with some VERY good advice, it looks like I'll be having a very extended conversation with razer support tomorrow.
Cannot run windows 8.1 It went to a black screen with mouse pointer and hung for an hour. Managed to get it up and running, but the intel driver, Bluetooth driver, and audio driver had that wonderful yellow !. Could not update nvidia driver until I updated the intel driver, and attempting to do so kicked me back to black screen. I had to restore the machine to recover it.
So I finished making dinner, re updated windows, brought it up to hook up to my desktop station. Plugging in my external USB 3.0 drive caused a BSOD [I missed the technicals] and the machine refuses to boot with it plugged in. USB port next to my HDMI port seems flaky, I had everything [mouse, orbweaver, keyboard] plugged into a POWERED USB hub. I had to move it to the middle USB port to get it to recognize the devices, and the keyboard I had to plug directly into the notebook for synapse to detect it. Trying to FN + F4 to change to external monitor only caused synapse to crash 3 or 4 times.
I'm currently installing MwO to see if I can get the wonderful video_tdr_failure again. I'll probably be updating this post shortly >< -
Thanks, will look into this! I'm hesitant in tinkering with the settings/restoring since if something unfortunate happens and my machine is not usable, I'll be in big trouble (student). So for now, will probably have to live with it until I get a break and can afford to not have a machine
-
Ugh I would stay away from 8.1 on the Blade.... it's got a ton of issues to begin with...I recommend Start8 and all the Windows 8 problems are solved.
-
I prefer Start Menu 8 its free and here is a Razer Button Theme
Attached Files:
Xeneize likes this. -
-
Very Nice! I'm now going to have to try this one out
Thanks and +rep
-
Thanks! Start8 is actually awesome and this made it even cooler.
-
I Can't make your Razer them work on start 8, don't you need the 3 thems to be in a single .png document?
-
His are for Start Menu 8 NOT Start8
-
How many of you guys voided the warranty on the laptop and added a drive? Looking to buy one but don't know if I want to go 256GB and add my own drive or get the 512GB and keep the warranty.
-
Just remember to take out the second SSD before sending it back.
-
Yeah haha, or be ready to poker face it with a "I have no idea what you're talking about"

I'm in the other camp on Windows 8: I REJOICED when they removed that bob awful start menu!!! I've hated that thing FOREVER!!!!!
The point, howerver, was to see if maybe there was something in the recovery image itself that was corrupt. In this case, it SEEMS to have produced a result.
Updated the chipset and HD4600 drivers to intel's latest AFTER another crash last night. This morning after an hour or so of D3 and a few matches of MwO back to back, no crash YET. I did have an issue with corrupt synapse causing issues with the switchblade UI however, and in the process I noticed THIS:
Anyone else have that thin white "artifacting" looking bar on their trackpads? My deathstalker ultimate doesn't, but who knows if it's just a peculiarity of the blade pro. -
Don't worry about it. Its the same with my trackpad as well. And it also appeared on the first unit i had. I then double checked with the display units at my local IT shops. They all had the same thing at one angle or another.
-
Has anyone been able to figure a way out to add an extra SSD in the Blade Pro? I know that there's this cable that is missing for us to connect the SSD. Anyone found a cable suitable for it already?
-

Thank you
One less thing to worry about.
-
I can confirm as well, my SBUI looks the same.
In fact, have you noticed that dust easily enters the SBUI hotkeys from the surface? I've noticed that overtime, dust has been able to settle into the hotkeys and I have no way of cleaning them

Not yet, but I've only really had the thing in my hands for about 16 hours so far [I bought it back on 9/06]
Talked to Razer this morning, they confirm there is an optimus issue that's causing install issues with windows 8.1. I may have some flaky USB ports, and they've asked me to run 3dmark, furmark, and make it crash in another game just to discount that it's an MwO problem [and it could be]
I guess i have to buy a new A list game today to beat the shnot out of my aluminum megolith of almost awesome
[PS: This is really REALLY starting to tick me off: Not because of the performance drops, but because this thing is so down right comfortable to use. . I dread the possibility of having to RMA it again! I'm working on isolating another windows issue [windows modules installer worker using 20%+ CPU for no apparent reason, causing "idle" temps in the high 50s to low 60s] I disabled superfetch and windows search [indexing] to see if that resolved.
Update: Well, 3dmark and uningine BSOD with video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. Razer confirms, BAD GPU.
And now the fun beings. -
Bad luck man, i hope the new one comes in perfect state.
The only critic i have to Razer is the irregular quality check method they are using to test their laptops before shipping them, if there is any. -
So my blade had a blemish on the screen, I sent it back to razer and got a call listing my options, I ended up going with having them just replace the screen rather than ship me a whole new laptop, I was highly tempted to ask if they could put on a 1080p IPS panel while they where at it.
-
I don't think a 1080p IPS exists that will fit in this laptop... if it did I'm sure many users would have done so.
-
Early days, yet. It takes guts to take apart a brand new $2000 laptop. The SSD stuff needed just the back cover to be taken off; the display MOD would necessitate a near total dismantling.
-
I'd take apart a 2k laptop, if it had easier access. Opening the display on something this small just feels like something could go wrong
-

Can't think for the life of me why. I've done a couple of screen swaps [on MSI and Asus notebooks] and it was as simple as removing the bezel and the screen [carefully, of course] The cables that attach the screen itself to the notebook are replaceable -- I have yet to see one permanently hard wired to a screen.
Whether you could find an IPS thin enough to work as a REPLACEMENT, however, is a completely different story. -
Can't they fit the panel that goes through the P34G and AW14 since those are IPS FHD?
-
Too thick.
-
So does anyone have a Razor Blade pro they want to get rid of???
-
Does anyone owning the Razer Blade 14 get this like clicking noise on their hinge if you press down on it? I was wiping the hinge with a microfiber cloth and noticed the hinge goes down and the right side makes this noise like it is snapping back on.
-
Mine does that on the left side yeah
-
Been using it for two weeks now, absolutely love this laptop for the thin and sleek look, plus it packs amazing gpu and cpu.
Struggling with the battery percentage that keeps disappearing also the touchpad sometimes annoys me because its so sensitive and it usually zoomed by accident. Anybody know how to fix this?
Mine comes with no defect -
I am planning to get the Razer Blade 14, but the comments about the display got me worried. All my previous laptops had TN panels and they seem fine to me, so I do not feel the need to have a particularly great display, but I don't want to get something that is considerably worse (I currently own a Thinkpad W520 with HD+ display).
From what the users reported, Razer is using an AUO103E panel that can also be found in Dell XPS 14 and HP Envy 14. Based on the notebookcheck reviews ( Review-Dell-XPS-14 and Review-HP-Envy-14-Spectre-Ultrabook) it seems that the Dell's display is really bad compared to the HP although they share the same panel (the HP's display actually looks pretty good).
I would like to know how the Razer's display compares with the other two laptops that use the AUO103E panel. Is the quality closer to the Dell or the HP? -
It is definitely not the best display out there. However, is it acceptable as a display? IMO, i find it acceptable to my eyes. Considering what the rest of the laptop has to offer, to me, that display is something i could live with. If you absolutely need a vibrant sharp and high quality display above all else, i'm afraid you'll have to look somewhere else as this laptop will not be for you. Best advice to you is to take a look at it for yourself. Find a shop or someone that carries this laptop and judge it for yourself. Don't compare it side by side with another laptop. Just look at the Blade 14 display, play around with it for a bit and then judge if you could accept it.

The Razer Blade 14/Pro has been out for awhile now. Just wondering, has anyone managed to find the cable that's needed to connect the SSD on the Blade Pro yet? Anyone tried repasting the Blade 14/Pro? Anyone tried overclocking them?
-
Thanks for the input! Unfortunately I live in Europe and I will be ordering it from US, so I cannot check it before I buy it (and considering the taxes and shipping I wouldn't really want to return it). As I said, I am quite used to mediocre laptop displays (and yes, I do have an external monitor), but I wouldn't want to be stuck with the worst display on the market.
The issue is that every single review mentions the low quality of the display, buy I hope that this happens because they are expecting something better for the price and not because the razer's display is worse than the average. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
yes there was about a guy that got a sata cable from a hp netbook and used it
there is an overclocking thread right here
repasting is a simple job, more so with the 14 the 17 if im not mistaken you are going to need to flip the board -
Hello everyone, I am new user of this forum. I will be very grateful if someone could help me. I am having some problems getting my nvidia gpu work on an external monitor through HDMI.
Here it's what happens. I tried running Crysis on my external monitor (the executable has been configured in order to force open it with the nvida gpu at the NVIDA control panel). If I am playing the game in windowed mode at 1080p, the Nvidia GPU activity lists the game as being runned by the GPU, and I get an average of 40 FPS. As soon as I run the game in fullscreen mode, the FPS drops below 24. At this point I cannot see if the Nvidia Activity lists the game, because to check the tray icon, as soon as I Alt+Tab, the games goes to windowed mode again. This happens I other games also. I am using the default nvidia drivers (311)
By the way, I can play in fullscreen mode with the Nvidia GPU when I am playing in the built-in monitor. -
Hey guys...
I want to buy a Razer Blade 14''. If there is the possibility to put a 2nd ssd msata drive, then it's better to buy the 128GB version of Razer Blade and buy a 2nd 256GB ssd drive ( Like this one). In the end I'll be with a 384GB system for a cheaper price then the official Razer Blade 14''.
Is it easy to place the 2nd ssd drive inside Razer Blade 14''?
Another question: The Razer Blade 14'' of 128GB and 256GB are out of stock right now from Razer Store. Does anybody have a clue when Razer will have them again in stock?
Thank you -
Hi I ordered my RB14 256GB (free shipping) at bestbuy website last 10/15 and it shipped 10/16 via UPS. According to tracking info its "Out for Delivery" as of 5:52 AM EST so it should be arriving today! So excited!
