Occasional lurker, first time commenter here. I was really hoping to see these significantly less expensive by now, but they appear to be holding their value. That's kind of nice to see, actually! What do you fine folks think the secondhand prices are going to look like for used first gen blades when revisions finally come rolling out? Knock on wood..

ok razer's having back to school sale. you get 10% off razer blade...which is still $2700ish + tax...had my eyes on Blade ever since it was announced but no idea why it's still $2799+

10% off would be nice. I was taxed on my Blade which was strange as I don't always have to pay taxes on internet items in Mississippi.

Yes. Not sure how many university froshes will be happy with a sale 'back-to school sale'. I think I had less than 100 bucks when I went university other than some money I earned working at a restaurant during summer holidays...
but yes I'm still heavily debating if I should get it...been checking for two years now. currently I'm using Samsung Gamer, so obviously it will perform worse, but portability and overall design are what attract me.

The portability of this unit cannot be overstated. It was this or a MBP 17 for me at the time. Switchblade UI and 555m sealed the deal for me.

Do yourself a favor and wait for the refresh. As is, the 15 inch MBP craps all over this right now, and even the high end retina model isn't as expensive.

Not going to tell you not to wait for Blade 2.0 or whatever, but the MBP 15 is still a 15 incher, I wanted more screen real estate. Also wanted the Switchblade UI.

Perhaps I misunderstand "screen real estate", but I am under the impression that it is purely resolution based, and not physical size based (such as a 13" 1080p screen has more screen real estate than a 13" 720p screen). In this case, the MBP with Retina display is certainly the one with more.

$600-800 for the switchblade ui is pretty steep...

I didn't say the Blade was cheap. And for some a 15" screen albeit with an uber-impressive pixel density is still not the same as gaming on a 17" screen.

And gaming on a 555 is not the same as gaming on a 650.

I will be purchasing the razer blade hopefully next week. it did take me awhile to decide whether i should purchase this or not.. due to the fact everyone is screaming theyll come out with a razer blade refresh. The back to school discount was a deal breaker for me, since i am going to school this fall. ive done alot of research to make my decision, ive fallen in love with the looks/portability/power bricks slender look. i do play high/low end games all in low or medium settings ( BF3,crysis 2,team fortress,LoL,sc2,tera online,etc.. ) so graphics isnt a big issue. my everki beacon backpack will love the razer blade compared to my asus g73 laptop it was just too heavy and bulky for school or bringing it to a friends house for a lan party. putting it in and out of the backpack was just horrid, and also carrying that around with the huge power brick.. is not a great deal for your back. im glad with my decision and cant wait to put down myself as a proud owner of a razer blade... hopefully i make a right choice because this will be my daily driver gaming laptop for a couple years... :)

Same here, I would most likely be getting the laptop tomorrow is things are going well on my side. I've actually managed to strike a nice deal with my parents (I would be paying the full cost) and the laptop actually sold them over when they saw it in person. It's pricey, yes, but I have seen the consequences of buying a high-end gaming laptop for the same price and not even treating it like a laptop at all.

My brother bought the Msi GT780 for approximately the same price and it has remained in his room ever since. I have also spoken to my friends who owned performance laptops and some of them were, even though sceptical of the price point, were willing to take the plunge for the Blade. It seems that a year and a half of lugging around nearly 6kg daily can really hamper your resolve... A friend of mine even swapped out his G53s for a old, worn-out laptop for his internship because it was "lighter and more portable".

I'll post more here once I get my hands on it :D

Will be purchasing the laptop once i get off work and head home! ill be doing an unboxing once i receive it. also i did some playing around with the website.. and when you type in your coupon code it only applies the razer blade and not the orochi blade edition mouse. SO hopefully when i do recieve this ill get the mouse aswell. if not ill have to call them in and see what they can do.

6kg for a laptop? Most are like 3.5-4kg at worse for a 17 inch and much less for a 15 inch. 15-17 inch difference for gaming is not that substantial. It's like going for a 42" vs 45" LCD TV. I mean the difference is not that substantial.

My M17x was what, 8.5 lbs maybe, excluding the power brick? My M18x was 11 lbs with a 3 lb brick. Its nice to actually carry a capable 17" gaming laptop (not to mention svelte little PSU) around that isn't a back breaker.

I just got an email from Razer and they will not be including the Razer Orochi Because of the 10% discount.. this sucks. I paid for the express shipping they should still include the mouse :(

The mouse sucks so you aren't missing anything. However that's kinda lame to offer 10% off then not get the whole package.

Hope you enjoy it though - I didn't. I've come to the conclusion the Razer Blade is for PC people who hate Apple but want a Macbook Pro.

im only upset i dont get the razer orochi mouse, when they advertise with every purchase of a razer blade itll include the mouse. but the terms and conditions can change at anytime apparently. why question if i should go to college/uni? who wouldnt complain when you spend that much on a laptop you would expect that perk to be added.

Wow. My Sager is only about 8 lbs ~ 3.6kg with power brick and there's much smaller and lighter PSU's available if desired. In any case, I do like the form factor of the Razer, just think they need more powerful guts.

I wouldn't if the price was $2520 instead of $2800.

Why? You're buying a notebook with a rather unique trackpad/button system. I always thought including the mouse ran counter to the point of the pointing system. If anything, I'd rather have gotten the Onza I ordered with it for free instead of a mouse.

the "revolutionary" trackpad isn't nearly good enough to allow you to play FPS games or MMO's seriously, even with the customizable buttons.
    It really is a gimmick.

do you guys think it would be a good idea to wait to see if they come out with 2.0? most people thought that it would have been out by now.

wait for what? no point of waiting. if you want it get it, if your having doubts dont get it. after project fiona is released thats when the razer blade refresh should be announced. im currently going to RMA my blade because im fairly concerned about the heat.

If there will be a refresh of Razer Blade I personally would wait. A GTX 660m would be world's better improvement over the 555m in there currently, not to mention they need to include a quad core CPU.

What if the blade sale is happening right now just to get rid of whats left of the current blades stock to make room for the blade 2.0?

the new keyboard that just been announced. The Razer deathstalker ( Razer DeathStalker | Razer™ | For Gamers. By Gamers.™ ). This keyboard has most of the style/features of the blades keyboard, except the changing colors of the backlit keys. Which will most likely be added to the Razer blade 2.0. I'm just hoping HOPING the blade 2 will be released next year or during december, so I don't feel bad purchasing my blade late :)

Yep.. just heard. Recently got mine couple weeks ago. now I regret buying it. Sighh of course I've passed the return policy so I can't return it.. all they offer is a $500 off the new blade purchase for previous blade owners.. or an extended warranty. Sigh! Can someone please make me feel better.

What is Razer's return policy like has anyone tried to return a laptop to them? I want to buy really badly, but I'm worried about being an early adopter for this system. Ive been trying to click the link on their website with their return policy but it just takes me back to the front page.

ive called razer blade support and theyve told me i couldnt return/refund mine because ive passed the 14 day return policy for gaming systems ( razer blade ). they also told me ide have an offer of $500 off the new blade... which is useless to me, have a 300 dollar extended warrenty, or wait until wednesday for further information. i RMA'ed my blade due to it overheating, DURING that 14 day period yet they still wont allow me to refund or even just switch over to pre order the new blade. ill give them a call on tuesday after work.

Pre-Ordered the new Blade. The original Blade has been an excellent laptop and a great first effort for Razer. I will be handing Blade 1.0 to my son so she will still be getting treated well. Will post up my impressions when the new Blade arrives.

customer support has been top notch for me with my gen one blade, and i've had follow up calls and emails along the way with support. best warranty service experience ive had compared to dell and hp. excited to see battery life improvements with ivy bridge and kepler, as well as volume improvements. again i will do a detailed review probably via techinferno once again.

Nice specs! $2500 is still a little steep but for the tech, thinness and power you get it's pretty reasonable and much more of a gaming laptop than the first gen. Too bad Razer didn't just wait 6 months and release with this one from the start, I think it would have mitigated a lot of the criticism. Curious to see user reviews. :)

In all honesty Razer should offer to buy back the original machines from owners who want to upgrade for $1200-1500. I'm sure they could refurb and resell first gen for $1800.

    Hi Guys,

Looks like the screen will stay the same and I have searched a lot to find information about it. The comments about viewing angly vary EXTREMELY from one review to each other. Can you guys tell me how good/bad it is? Color accurcy was not soo nice in the Anandtech review. Especially compared to the Samsung 700Z7C which looks to have the best 17" display so far. I am excited to hear if the new blade does switch off the fan if the machine is idle. Thank you very very much!
