In short, the R2 screen is very poor for graphics work. I'm not sure if they improved the screen on the Pro.

I use my Razer (R2/17") blade for work and do a fair amount of web design and layout with it.
The stuff I do doesn't require incredible color fidelity, but I have had 3 different Razer Blade R2's and all of them had very weak color performance.
The screen comes with a very pronounced blue cast, but that is easily corrected and is not the main problem.
The main problem is the color temperature changes a LOT depending on the tilt of the screen, ranging from very cool to very warm depending on your viewing angle. A 10 degree change in screen tilt will produce a very noticeable change in color temperature.

So even if I calibrate the screen with my Spyder Elite hardware, the calibration is basically useless because the Spyder is not necessarily measuring the screen from the same angle as my viewing angle.
It's possible that the screen is better on the pro, but I'd definitely check before buying if you're doing graphics work.

I absolutely love my Razer, but I don't use it for any meaningful graphics work with color.

    Hope that helps.

Hey all, what are the necessary hard drive specifications for the R2? I figured instead of updating the entire system I'll just swap out the HDD for a Crucial M500 960Gb SSD. It's a 7mm SSD I believe which I think is the same as the stock HDD. Am I right in saying this and it'll fit in fine? Just figured it'd be a better upgrade than buying a whole new system for not that much bigger a performance gain. plus for $730 it's a pretty good buy for that amount of flash storage. Thoughts?

If its 7mm then it should fit. Sounds awesome to me that's a beastly sized storage!

I disagree with the not a whole lot of performance gain though. That 765m is a beast :)

But the 660m wasn't a real slouch anyway. Going from the r1 to the r2 was a no brainer but the r2 to r3 really isn't, the r2 still isn't bad atm depending on what you use it for!

Hi Blade owners, I've learned so much from reading the past few pages with first hand experiences of people, thank you.

I'm also in the same boat as a lot of people: 14' or 17' Blade. I've been reading that portability for school isn't that much of an issue with the 17' Blade. I have a backpack that can barely fit an m17xR4, so I'm very confident that it'd easily take care of a 17' Blade. I bring that backpack to school regardless, so the added Blade shouldn't be an issue.

My biggest concern is screen real estate (especially in gaming) on the 1600x900 versus 1920x1080. I've always been a 1920x1080 user and an MMO gamer - FPS I enjoy too, but I don't particularly focus on that genre. I've noticed from comparison that when playing MMOs from my 1920x1080, I get a huge advantage to lower resolutions because my FOV and UI gives me more room to see what's around my character.

In PvP, allows me to see what's coming from behind or the sides, in PvE allows me to see a wider view and more 'room'.

What do you guys think? I'm very much impressed on the 14' since the specs are almost too similar and the added portability is great. My biggest concern now is really just the gaming difference. I need an Etherport as well, but that can be remedied through an adapter.

    Any input would be great.

PS. I noticed that there's no optical drive for Blades. What happens if you need to reformat your computer or reinstall Windows?

this can all be done by a USB stick, google windows x USB (replace x with 7 or 8, and add UEFI in front if the system uses UEFI BIOS, most noticeable difference from BIOS and UEFI BIOS is the graphical interface on UEFI firmware and mouse support)

Well that was my thoughts, The 765 is obviously better, but like all new GPU's it's only going to be ~30% faster. not enough of a performance gain to justify an annual $2700... So I tend to stick to an every second rendition sort of thing. And anyway, Razer never gets things right the first time. They innovate first time then refine and perfect second. Hence why I held off the R1 Blade and bought an R2. Best move I think I've made since I asked my girlfriend out :p So I'm gonna through the 960Gb SSD in for now and buy an R4 blade next year with a 800 series GPU. Because then I'm getting a laptop ~60% faster and the performance gain will be much more obvious. I still had to fight the temptation of buying the 14" though xD

Was surprised by that one too. But they just announced some sort of delay for some of the other units. I got an email just now saying that mine has a 1-2 week backorder. So that means 1-2 weeks before it can ship, then the shipping time, right?

Also is there any easy way to confirm you are using Intel or Nvidia card?

in the r2 or either of the r3? i popped one into my r2, it works great, its a little tricky to install as the two connector ribbons from the usb daughterboard cross over the top and with it being a dual pcb on the atlas 480gb, it puts a little bit of a strain on the cables, not much but they look a lot tighter than they do with the original ssd in there.

Is the newest model - Razer Blade 14” (2013) able to upgrade the RAM? I called razer and they said is was not able to be upgraded and 8GB is the max memory. I cant believe the max out at 8G. My company is looking for a windows machine comparable to the macbook pro and this thing looked great aside from the memory, we usually use 8G minimum with our applications. We want to give our devs a choice between the 2 but its a no go if it only takes 8G.

The reason why the Razer Blade 14" has 8GB of RAM is because the RAM module is soldered onto the motherboard. And why only 8GB is because that is more than enough for gaming. Another reason would be because they do not like to give customization options. One product, one kind of specs.

The Razer Blade Pro on the other hand also comes with 8GB of RAM. But the difference is that the Pro's ram is removable. So you can upgrade it by yourself if you so wish to.

However, since you are trying to get Blades for your company, why not get in touch with Razer or just send a email to Min-Liang Tan? Introduce yourself, state your problems, ask whether it can be implemented. I'm sure Razer would be delighted to try and help you get the Blade that you want.

Yeah, i found that out. As of now everyone seems to be going with the macbook pro on our team. If it had 12 or 16 gigs i myself would have went with it over the macbook. For whatever reason everyone has an issue with weight so the razer pro wouldn't fly at 6+ lbs.

Ordered my 14 inch on Tuesday and somehow got it today! Did an Unboxing video and uploaded it with my phone but can't get the link yet. So excited! Haven't done much yet cus I had to go out but its pretty comfortable on my lap. Installed a few things like chrome and Firefox. Palmrest seemed to get kinda warm just being in my lap. Still lower than body temperature but not cold like the 17 is when just web surfing. Will update more when I get back home. Just here on my phone for now

a separate shipping thread would be fine, and then folks can vent away. I had to wait a very long time for the Blade R1 actually, as its launch kept getting pushed back even though I had preordered it months prior. I know some of you are frustrated, but keep in mind Razer as a laptop manufacturer is still really in its infancy. And with great success comes great demand: they can't ramp up production like Dell or something. Dunno what all the problems are on the supply side of things but if you ordered you will get your Blade ASAP. Again, as one who waited much, much longer than some of you for the original Blade (and had to do without a laptop all the while) you will be rewarded with your patience with a stellar notebook.

My advice to Razer maybe at this point is to take a lesson from Dell/Allienware, who typically overestimate the shipping dates of their products, so the customer will usually be happy to see it ship earlier than projected. in fact, I think this is what Razer is doing at this point, by stating a 2-4 week window. Incidentally the original shipping date for the new Blade wasn't supposed to be till today. They just managed to send out a handful I guess of first wave orders a week or so early. Lucky for me and a few others. Feel free to be jealous of me, but trust me, I will glow bright Razer green with envy when I see some of you bragging about your new Razer Blade Pros that I simply couldn't afford.

My review of the Blade should post at some point today. Will keep you posted. GPU/CPU temps: cool to the touch when idling/web browsing like now. no fan noise if the fans are even spinning at all (can't tell). When gaming, GPU ramps up to 79 degrees at highest so far, and CPU hit 85 degrees. Haven't reinstalled GPU-z or Intell XTU so can't give you details right now.

    Blade Review is up:

Thanks for the review video! How would you say the noise level, and heat level, compare to your Blade R1? I'm going to be getting a 14" Blade (hopefully soon). I'm not really concerned about actual temperature numbers, but just how it is to operate.

    Thanks!

Just got my Razer Blade Pro 17" 2013. Does anyone else have interference problems with headphones when the computer is plugged into AC power? Or a way to fix it? The static is persistent and the volume of the computer has no effect on it. It's the same even if the computer is muted.

Try reinstalling/updating your audio driver from both razer website and the manufacture's website. Only solution I could think of
