Hi. Steps to be able to boot from a usb.

In the bios (press f1 or delete on startup)
in the security tab go to 'secure boot menu' and disable 'secure boot control'.
then save and exit and re-enter the bios again
under the boot tab you will now see an option for csm parameters.
go in and enable 'launch csm' it and a bunch of settings will become available.
switch all the settings to Legacy only.
save and exit. and now when you press f12 on startup (for boot options) you will be able to select your usb and boot from it. Select the non uefi one.

ps. i originally used my r2 blades recovery usb. do NOT try this. its not compatible. xP. i torrented a cracked version of win7 ultimate. came as an iso. used 'iso to usb' to burn the image into a bootable usb and then followed the steps above. Will update after attempting to install all the win 8 drivers from the razer website as i believe and was told that they should work.

ah this is what i was afraid of. i did try re installing the drivers and everything. i was really hoping i wouldnt have to send it in. i send a message to razer tonight regarding the issue.

has anyone had any luck using clip on ferrites on the power cord to remedy this problem?

I am kind of disappointed to see my screen is not the AUO B173HW01 V5, but LG LP173WF1 which doesn't get good reviews in most laptops its installed in. Its ok other than typical LG light bleeding and un-uniform lighting. I try to avoid LG anything like the plague since they make such garbage products so I'm really wondering if I'm going to keep this laptop. The older AUO B173HW01 V5 screen was one of the best TN screens available I'm wondering if I'm just unlucky or did they switch screens for the New Blade Pro. I expected better on this premium laptop.

If any new Blade Pro owners can check their screen make it would be greatly appreciated (use HWinfo64 which is free).

I will check this as soon as mine arrives. are you sure that checking the HWinfo did not made you a negative placebo effect ? How bad is the screen?

Thank you for checking when you get yours! I look foward to your report.

I tend to spot defects in LCD screens very quickly then my eyes are drawn to them constantly. I can't stand dead pixels, dark/light spots, and poor viewing angles. I had read pretty good reviews of the AUO B173HW01 V5 which is why I was surprised that I was so disappointed in the display, and thats what made me look up the screen type.

Now by no means would I say the display is bad, its just pretty average and I expected a bit more for the price they charge for this system. I have no dead pixels but I think the screen is a bit fuzzy, colors seem a bit washed out, there are a few light/dark areas, and the up/down viewing angles are pretty poor.

Has anyone overclocked the Razer Blade R2 before? I am encountering some issues at the moment. GTX 660M btw.

First, I am using msi afterburner. The overclocking limit is +135Mhz. However, when I apply the overclock and run a game, the graph stays at the stock 835Mhz throughout even though it has been applied.

Is it because of the GPU bios?

MSI should allow for overclocking, I've been using it on occasion.

Are you pressing apply after entering in oc values?

None are user upgradable.... Infact if you swap the hdd it voids the warranty as per razer

    hello,
so i'm having a difficult time deciding between the razer 14 inch and the msi ge40
The msi may be a bit thicker but it is less expensive, so is the razer worth it?
i'm trying to get a laptop for college, as well as gaming.

    thanks

I would go razer. Looks like the GE40 has heat/throttling issues while gaming. Check out the MSI forum.

Gigabyte has some nice stuff coming out also. The P34G looks interesting.

If you plan on hooking it up to an external monitor/keyboard/mouse most of the time then it is not worth it. If you plan on actually touching your laptop then it is worth it.

But in all seriousness. If you plan on typing on the laptop then the keyboard is very very important.

Been checking what the wifi card can do, got a netgear push tv and intel widi 1080. Quirky but it works good once locked on(tip if you want widi app to work disable nvidia card during installation). So I have my jembe speakers and orochi connected bluetooth as well as streaming sky go from wireless modem onto my TV @1080 +Dolby... mere dreams when i was yoot :)

nb not very good as second screen as the mouse movement is sluggish but fine if you wanna watch a movie on the tv whilst doing other stuff on your blade...

I have had a quick look into it and seems widi is more dependent on using the intel gfx card than the wireless card but couldn't find an answer to say positively that it will work on the killer wireless-n card... But it certainly works on the r2. Purchase this PTV3000 plug it into your tv hdmi and usb(power) download intel latest drivers and widi app connect the 2 and you have another screen at 1080. Mouse movement is sluggish but say win media player will stay in fullscreen even when your using your blade so great for movies tv etc...

updated firmware and mouse movement improved 50% also my galaxy s4 works a treat without any app...

I have a huge problem again...this time with my battery? Has anyone experienced the bulging battery problem? My R2's case is opening up on the front side because the battery is bulging and swelling up (I opened up the laptop to see). The battery is working fine for now, but it barely fits because of the bulging and swelling.

I don't know about bulging batteries in the Blade, but I do know I had a bulging battery in my Logitech One remote that eventually broke open spewing acid which ate away at the plastic. If I were you I'd be bugging Razer about this issue asap! Its an expensive laptop =)

Damn.. . This is so tough. I just recently resolved my LCD screen problem and now this. I so want to love this laptop (and I still do very very much), but admittedly it has given me more problems than any other gadget I have ever owned :( what's worse is the fact that I am in the Philippines, making any sort of workaround difficult, costly, and time-consuming to do. Sigh.

Dammit. This is going to make me reconsider buying another Razer laptop in the future regardless of how much I love it.

Is the Blade's battery customized? Can it be bought anywhere else at least?

Razer Blade R2 bro. It's tough man. I already had a problem with the screen before that I had to fix myself (bought my own screen from online, then had it installed in Greenhills for a small fee). Now I have a problem with the battery.

Dang, that's a bother. If you could sell that R2, I'd even suggest doing so and getting the new 14 Blade altogether.

Recently tried selling my AW here too (Cebu), just too hard to find a decent market for them here especially if you're using global prices. I'm not so sure with a Razer though.

Had any experiences with other tech brands for Blade repair? God forbid something is wrong with mine, I don't wanna ship it all the way back and forth. Lol.

I've read up on it, and from what I can tell, their stance is that if you want to course battery replacement though them (Razer), you have to send your unit back for assessment and then they quote you a price for the battery. Which you will pretty much pay, since you've already sent it there anyway.

I guess if your warranty is over and there's just no way for you to ship it back, I would hope that they use somewhat generic batteries that you can replace if you know what you're doing.

I would actually think that not to be the case for highly designed thin and light notebooks. It looks like no matter what you're at least paying for shipping both ways. I'm surprised they can't just tell you how much it costs to replace the battery. It's not like it's a mystery what the problem is.

The variable seems to be labor cost, from what I've been told. I'm not quite sure really. The only thing I can think of is that their labor costs change so frequently that they can't give an exact price for a battery change for the next year? Unless they plan on repairing or changing the entire Blade all together.

Hi Catalyse! Kai here and I'm a r2 owner too! ^^

These are a few software that I would recommend you to install. It is not essential, but I find them very useful.

MSI Afterburner - For overclocking the GTX 660M. The Blade has a rather good cooling system. Was able to get a stable overclock at 1085Mhz core and 3000Mhz memory. GPU temps maxed out at 82 degree C.
Razer Game Booster - I was able to achieve around 2 - 5 fps increase in Metro Last Light and Far Cry 3.
Skype - Should be essential for all games. Haha!
Google Chrome - Best browser in my opinion. ^^

Those are the softwares that I would recommend to install.

Have fun with your new blade!

I got my new 14" Razer Blade today and it is so sweet. I am a little disappointed by the screen, for this much money, the screen should look a lot better. I haven't installed any games yet, tried out the WEI and ended up with a score of 6.9. I blame it on the Intel HD 4000, anyone know how to get it to test the 765M? I'm not loving Windows 8, tried to give it a fair shake but MS dropped the ball big time. Hopefully 8.1 will fix it and make it a step above Win ME, giving me flashbacks. If I find Win 7 for cheap, I will be replacing this OS in a heartbeat. I haven't gotten around to installing any games yet, saving that for tomorrow. Can't wait to see some Skyrim performance on this puppy.

I like windows 8 but the first thing I do is install start8. Then you get all the benefits of Windows 8 but I don't have to use the new Metro stuff unless I want to. Feels like Windows 7+ to me.

I installed Classic Shell but I still find it annoying that when I'm scrolling the mouse across the screen via the track pad, the metro screen or app will pop up. Does MS seriously think this is what people want in a OS? It's really distracting, interrupting and aggravating. I pulled out a mouse and have started using that to alleviate the track pad random pop ups, but if I take the Blade to work with me I can't use a mouse in my truck, flat spaces and room are limited.

There should be an option in the Classic Shell configuration window to disable windows 8 metro UI. I personally have all of that disabled
