    Hi Geedub,

Basically, if I remember it was in the same tab with the quickboot/secureboot, but it was like "enable DMA settings" (or something like that), so I think I disabled it, and then in those settings, I could select individual things to be set to legacy mode...

    Hey all!

My Blade is back and working! Turned out to be HDD Failure. >.<
Managed to back up my work too. Lucky me! A simple RMA and 3 working days was all it took. ^^

Reading through various comments, I shall share my experience at COMEX 2013 at Singapore Expo recently.

Razer was selling the Blade Pro and Blade at their booth, along with various apparels and peripherals.
So, I went to test out their new blade and I actually found it to be quite an enjoyable experience. However, as many of you people have commented, the screen on the Blade 14-inch really isn't that good.
For me, it was just all right. But to many others, it's probably downright bad. Still, as a whole package, I believe it's worth the price. ^^

One thing that struck me in particular regarding the new Blades was the GPU.
Of course, both sports the same Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M which is a great GPU, but what I found out was that the GPU in both Blades were running on PCI Express x16 Gen 2. Why Gen 2? o_O?
Other manufacturers have the exact same GPU and are running on Gen 3.

To me, it was kinda weird. But well, it may just be me. Haha!

( P.S. A little thing I would like to see improved on my Blade is probably just the YouTube app. Wish it can play videos smoothly. Maybe Razer can try fitting their future Blades with an ARM processor just for the SBUI? It would be so cool! ^^ )

    Hi everyone

i just received my Blade 14 as a birthday present and i am so excited using it, just installed Steam and played a game of MW3 and is very please with its performance as a gaming rig but i also use this machine for my work and i found the touchpad a little annoying to use even after i turn off all the edge action and the H & V scroll areas...

the puzzling thing i see is when in the touchpad device setting, the X & Y-axis of where i touch the pad is not accurate, for instance when my cursor is at the top left, the X-axis shows it correctly at the left most edge but the Y-axis shows it in the bottom third of the pad. i have uploaded a picture hoping to show what i meant.

i hope i can recalibrate my touch pad of if i am missing something please do help me out... thank you guys.

Tried these questions on a different thread and thinking this one may be the appropriate thread for my questions.

Got the Blade 14 from Amazon and coming from Alienware (had pretty much every model at one point or another) I can say that I loved my M18x (R1) and my M14x (R2) but the Razer Blade is on a completely different category, truly a mobile gaming laptop.

    My questions:

    1) If I was to upgrade my SSD and replace it for two M500 480gb on a RAID 0, from what I understand, this can be done, however has anyone actually attempted to replace the existing drive? I'm assuming RAID 0 is supported by BIOS? DOes anyone have a video/pictures of the process?

    2) If I do replace the drives, where can I get the version of Windows 8 that came with my laptop? is there a way to get it from a Razer "cloud"? I did not receive a DVD/USB with the Win 8 source files. Also, would like to get the "look and feel" Razer has on their installs

    3) Has anyone created a good Monitor Calibration profile that they can share?

    4) What are the recommended Killer drivers being used?

    7) This laptop is incredibly silent, I mean pretty scary, running 3DMark, I can't hear any fans at all... is this normal??

    8) However, what I can hear is a very soft chirping/fast clicking for 3-4 seconds when I load an app, it's random but it;s there.... any thoughts as to what the clicking can be? It does not happen when gaming, seems to only happening when launching an app for example.
Update: the noise is getting more frequent, more so when I launch an app or load a web page, sounds as if a fan was clipping a cable or a piece of soft plastic, the weird thing is that it's not continuous, it goes away after a few seconds.... I have a video that I can post if you're interested
I called Amazon and they are overnighting a new Blade, awesome support by the way, I love Amazon..... I really hope the replacement was as awesome as my current one minus the noise.

My temperatures on heavy load while benching 3DMark/Vantage/PCMark

    Max CPU: 85
    Max GPU: 74

    Thanks for all the help

    Hi there!

Based on your question, I'm assuming you mean a full size 2.5 inch sata 3 SSD. The Razer Blade 14 does not support a 2.5 inch SSD or any HDD for that matter.
The Razer Blade 14 can only support up to 2 msata SSD.

msata SSD are very small, it can fit in your palm. That's the one which the Razer Blade 14 supports.

Also to answer your question, msata SSD also supports sata 3.

    Hopefully, this clears your doubts!

Hi there! Glad you are enjoying your new Razer Blade 14! It definitely sets a new category of laptops since its introduction!

Regarding your questions, I will try my utmost to answer them for you.

1 - 2 SSD in RAID 0 is definitely possible. I'm sorry that I do not have any video/pictures that I can show you. But, I hear that removal/installation of the msata SSD is very simple. All you need is a matching screwdriver to remove the screws on the bottom of the computer and then remove the SSD and replace it. Simple as that.

2 - If you do replace the drives, you can get the USB stick with Windows 8 in it from Razer. You would have to request it. Just give them a call or go through Blade Support.

3 - I'm using the Razer Blade R2 ( 17 inch ), and the colour temperature of the screen ain't bad so I don't have any to share.

4 - I have no idea regarding the Killer drivers. You can probably search for it online or on other forums regarding that issue.

5 - The laptop is pretty silent based on all my experiences so far. My friend owns a Razer Blade 14. He too comments on how silent the fans are during load. Based on your temperatures, they are all well within reasonable ranges. It should be normal.

6 - Regarding that fast clicking noise, it might be because the fans spins up to full speed before throttling down to match the airflow to heat temperature for the best heat dissipation and noise output. But since you have decided to replace the Blade. I guess you should not worry too much.

Hopefully, I have answered your doubts and questions.

Have fun with your new Razer Blade!

    Very helpful!! thank you.

I have my replacement and it's just perfect, my only little complaint (I'm never 100% satisfied hehe) is that the new Blade has a clickier noise to the trackpad, but a minor detail to an otherwise perfect piece of hardware. The clicking noise is not present in this one.

I'm going to be ordering the drives soon enough along the USB stick and will post a video of the SSD replacement.

    Thanks for the time!

Would have been my thoughts also though I have heard several mentions of it and none of price. Without the option to make restore "disks" as a default I though perhaps we would get lucky. Yeah I know the glass if half empty not half full.

And if you don't get in early on the pre order when the new one rolls around you won't get it very quickly.
These are great machines, in my mind they are the windows equivalent of the Mac Book Pro line

given that broadwell is probably going to be released Q3 of next year, yeah you can guess how much its going to take for the r2 to appear, and there is the usual backlog on razer machines

Hi, guys. I'm from Scotland and was looking at importing a 14" Blade with bundlebox (only costs about $300 in shipping, insurance and tax) I was looking at the Clevo W230ST and the Razer popped up. Unfortunately it has windows 8, which is a massive pain for me (one of our lecturers has been having a hell of a time getting W8 to connect to the network drives) What version of 8 does this ship with, cause if it's Pro I have W7 downgrade rights and that makes everything nice and easy.

Also how much usable space is there with the OS installed? I want to boot Linux too. I'm hoping the 256 SSD is big enough (I have a 15" MacBook Pro for my main machine) so all the Razer is for is coursework, linux, a fair amount of programming and modding GTA 4.

What I loved with the razer was the appearance of the build quality (and I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this) but until now I've not had anything that has rivalled Apples build quality, until recently I have always had Vaio's, Dell's and Alienware's alongside my Mac and they've always felt 'plastic'. But is the Razer as well built as it looks in the photo's?

The hardware itself is very solid. I like it more than my MBP and the wife's MBA. It is incredibly thin, but still 4 pounds. Some people may expect something of this size to weigh much less, but to me it feels very sturdy. The hardware designers paid attention to the smallest of details, down to the rubber strips the machine sits on... makes the device feel very grounded when I'm hammering out code at starbucks. I was using a VAIO prior to picking up this machine, it felt very flexible and plasticy with a tendency to slide around on the surface it sits.

The difference between 13" and 14" screen with 900p makes development on the machine much more comfortable for extended periods of time. Yes, the viewing angles are not GREAT and color might not be the best, but it is definitely better than the PC I use at work.

When I was looking to purchase a month ago, I couldn't find anything that offered portability, design and power in the same ballpark as this machine. I was a bit apprehensive about the reviews on the screen, but after having it for a month I have absolutely zero regret about the purchase.

Hi fellows who own the razer blade 14, is it normal for this system to have the buzzing/pitch noise? You can hear this clearly if you put your ear next to the keyboard. I hear this in idle without the ac adapter plug in. I try to ignore this however, want to make sure this is normal. Can anyone confirm this?

Update: Check with Razer customer through the company i bought it from, they said it is normal

My Razer Blade (2012) R2 got the same problem. I tried reset into factory setting and it does NOT work.

AND This is even after the RMA. A while ago, my laptop's ssd has an issue and need to be replaced, which I did. The sad part is that I lived in Thailand, and shipping cost to beyond words.

    Any suggestion?

I own a w230st and the build quality is very solid however it is almost as unaesthetic as it is in the photos and the touchpad/keyboard are hit and miss, the screen is very nice but I would recommend the razer, overall more solid device, the w230st has poor batterylife and heat problems not really helped by elevation or undervolting.

Anyone also have issues with the latest Synapse update? Razer Game Booster won't run if Synapse is installed, FFXIV runs very poorly (I can't even click in the game) if Synapse is installed. Who knows what other problems would arise if Synapse is still installed. There goes my RBP SBUI =/

    Hi,

I am currently in the process of buying a new laptop.

I have narrowed my decision down to the razer blade and the p35k.

    Both are very similar:

the razer is a bit smaller and thinner
the p35k has a much better display
razer boosts the nicer design (my opinion)
apparently the p35k has a better battery life (see below)
p35k boosts a much better storage setup (SSD + HDD) and an ethernet port
p35k has a litte bit more prozessor power and 16gb of ram

For me battery life and gaming power are the most important aspects!

So you as razer owners, what are your thoughts.

    Thanks,
    Chris

I love my Razer Blade. The build quality and trackpad are amazing and I can even use the trackpad for games like mirrors edge. I bought this because I wanted something small and portable to play games, and was sick of poorly made laptops that overheat all the time. I think the only laptops I will ever buy from now on are razer blades.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, looks like my instinct to go for the Blade was correct :) I've not been able to find anything on the market like it and build quality is important to me as my machines seem to get a beating. The lower res vs 1080p I think is negligible, surely at such small screen sizes you won't notice a difference and the lower res gives better gaming performance - which I think is Razer's rationale behind this. When I'm at home I have an 27'' Apple Cinema Display anyway, so if I want higher res I have it and I can't see the 675M struggling with that.

Thanks again everyone, I'll be on here more once it arrives :D

    Hello all,

I am currently in the process of buying a new laptop.
The most important things for me are screen and sound.

Could you tell me about the sound quality from this rig?
For me, cisp and clear sound is very required as I will use it in foreign language learning as well.

Another thing is the screen. I want a laptop with gorgeous and depth color on the screen.
According to other posts in Amazon, the screen is really bad and many people do not like it.

But how does it look bad? In term of color brightness, color saturation, or something? (bad viewing angle is acceptable for me, though)
If the color is worst, can it look perfect by adjusting saturation and gamma in graphic card property?
Can you see the grain on the screen?

Lastly, can the memory and SSD be replaced manually?

I salute who answer my questions. Thank you.

Nevermind. I figured it out. Uninstall synaptics and synapse. restart. reinstall synapse. Works now.

Hey guys, im having some trouble with a razer blade 2012 ed, something went wrong and now the keyboard and ui have stopped working (keys were back lit for a while but now even that has stopped). the laptop no longer shows up on synapse (have re-installed it) and when i try to run the firmware update the error "no razer blade keyboard detected". i have tried to install the firmware with and without synapse installed, i have also clean installed the computer and tried all of these steps again, i have also tried turning the pc on while holding the bottom right ui button (normally clock button) and this made the caps lock button light up at first but now even that does nothing....has anyone else had this error/how can i fix it?

    Thanks
    Duke

Anyone upgrade to Windows 8.1 today from the Microsoft Store? Any hiccups, problems that owners should be aware of?

I did, took forever to actually install all the updates.
My keyboard and trackpad wasn't working when it got to the license agreement part of the install, I had to plug in an external keyboard and mouse in order to proceed.
When I eventually got into windows it still wasn't working and I couldn't seem to convince them to work. Uninstalled Synapse, restarted the computer again and now my keyboard and mouse work again (except for the SBUI stuff obviously).

Other than that everything else appears to be working, though I do have a message telling me that SecureBoot isn't configured correctly, so I'll have to look into how to fix that.

Also, my start menu app, StartIsBack doesn't appear to be working, but that should be simple to fix.

    Razer Blade 2012 Owner.

Just did the windows 8.1 upgrade.

On reboot, lost all keyboard. No lights, and no response even getting into the BIOS.

Had to get the "CHIPSET - Intel(R) Management Engine Interface" from the Razer Support downloads:
    Razer Support

    That got the keyboard back.

Also had a " SecureBoot isn't configured correctly" too.
To fix this, you need to get into BIOS and change the following settings :
    Security
    -> Secure Boot = ENABLED
-> Secure Boot Mode = CUSTOM

    Then go into "Key Management"
-> Default Key Provisioning = ENABLED

Save & Exit, and that should fix it all up.

Also now noticed there are a bunch of "Windows 8.1 Hardware Drivers" on the Support page, so it would be worth install those too.

I don't have any options under secure boot mode besides enable disable. Where did you get the other secure boot mode?
