Anyone using a cooling pad with their 14" Blade? I'm thinking of picking one up soon to reduce heat when I'm gaming. Temps don't get too high but I was checking my system today and noticed that smart battery said my wear was already at 8% and I've only had this machine for two months. Speaking of batteries, is there anything I should be doing to preserve mine? I try to not leave my system plugged in at 100% for too long and likewise I try to not drain my battery under 40%. Considering the price of this thing I'm planning on having it for a while and sadly, I don't think it would be easy to swap the battery.

Try the Cooler Master U2. I have the CM U3 for my RBP and it's great.

From what I've read, weekly or so battery discharges (from charged to 25%) makes it healthy. And like you said, avoid long stretches of having it charged all the time. Other than that, I don't think there's much we can do since a battery is ultimately a perishable component after all.

Just a quick question, when these programs say that your battery has a x% wear, what does it mean? Say 10% wear, so your battery is 10% shorter?

Hey guys, is the blade supposed to emit a ridiculous rattling noise from both speakers? The sound is EXCRUCIATINGLY ear grating. It's like there's a rattlesnake talking to me through skype. I want to be sure that http://youtu.be/qjpw4uMukSs is what all you other blade owners are experiencing.

Nope, definitely not supposed to be this way. I suggest to have it RMA'd.

That's what I'm going to do. Razer support have been constantly saying that my sounds are normal. BS imo, I refuse to believe all the blade users out there are perfectly fine with a rattlesnake in their blade, and not complaining about it.

It's definitely not normal, in my opinion. The closest thing I have to the rattling noise is from my $30 cooling pad fans - because, well, it's $30 not $2000.

Does the noise happen even during idle times? You're 100% it's from the speakers right? Muting them removes it?

It happens even on idle but you'd need to put your ear against it, which I'm fine with. The loudness of the rattling/buss while running games is what I'm not ok with And from the video you can see I have wow running while muted, and it was still doing it. The rattling SEEMS to be coming from the speakers, or maybe perhaps it's the speakers that are forming the openings for whatever sound is inside to come out.

EDIT: Ok I finally found one video that has the noise. I guess I'm just conscious about the noise. I guess everyone is ok with the buzz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE3Cvstoajs&feature=player_detailpage#t=1517 I guess I'm off to buy some razer hammerheads or something so I don't have to listen to the (imo) dreadful buzz.

I actually don't hear any rattling from his video versus yours, more like fans rev-ing up more than anything. I would still suggest to have a talk over with someone from Razer - I know that feeling all too well of not being completely satisfied with an item and just tolerating the flaw (I had my RBP RMA'd too), it was definitely well worth the wait to have it fixed.

Hi fellow Blade owners, I have a question (primarily for Razer Blade Pros).

Today, I decided to buy an external monitor and an external keyboard for home use (BenQ and a Razer Blackwidow Tournament Edition).

This is the first time I'm trying an external keyboard on the Pro. The monitor works fine.

The issue I have seems to be with the keyboard - it "detects" it, so I see it in the list of devices, but it just doesn't work. I've tried plugging it into my brother's m14x and it immediately worked like a plug-and-play keyboard. It doesn't come up in my Synapse either.

Now I'm doing a fresh reinstall of Synapse to try and get it to work.

Has anyone had any problems with external keyboards? Initially I thought I bought a defective keyboard, but it working on my brother's laptop rules that out.

Does the Razer Blade Pro not support an external keyboard or something?

    Any help would be great.

**Edit**: So the Synapse reinstall didn't work. What did work is plugging in a USB Hub to the Pro and plugging the keyboard in from there. The problem is, I constantly get this problem that the keyboard thinks I'm holding down a key. For example, while typing this, I'd get words like "keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyboard" and when I delete, it sometimes continues do delete even after I let go of backspace.

Was the green webcam issue ever resolved on windows 8? Mine flashes green unless under sunlight or some florescent lights. Razer support went as far as to have me send it in for repairs, only to send it straight back saying it was working correctly.... Any help on the issue would be appreciated.

Anyone had their Blade (R2/Pro) go crazy on them and randomly the GPU "crashes" by which I mean, in windows when you plug in a thumb drive, or something, a noise plays "Do duhn" and when you unplug it's "Duhn do".

So basically what happens is, my screen freezes, it plays the Duhn do sound like something was unplugged, my GPU usage drops to 0, it stays this way for 10-15 seconds, then returns the normal, and plays the "Do Duhn" sound like something was plugged back in.

It's totally random, I'll go days without it happening, then some nights it happens every 30 minutes. I can't pinpoint what is wrong, any idea's?

    Hi,

I use excel quite extensively and tend not to use the mouse to often -- so shortcuts are important to me

Anyway, while in Excel (or Word) using the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+V should make the special past menue popup...

But its not working for me!

Can someone with a blade confirm if it is working for them.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Wow I haven't posted here in a LONG while. Ever since I had my bulging battery problem I've been very disappointed and cynical of Razer service.

Fortunately, my R2 has otherwise performed admirably. However, since it's been a few months that the R3 models have appeared, I am hoping I can find a new solution anew. Can anyone who has opened up their Razer Blade Pro (R3 model) tell me the model number/type of the actual battery? I'm hoping to find an OEM/company that will sell me the same type if battery independent of Razer.

tl; dr Can anyone give me the model number/type/serial number of the 17 inch R3 Razer Blade Pro so I can try looking for a company other than Razer that sells it?

    Hi guys...

I just got my new Razer Blade 14 yesterday...
But I'm facing some issues, so I would like to share and ask you guys about it.

    1) How do you know that the laptop is charging when it's turned off?
I haven't seen any lights turning on when I plug the power connector. This is very odd... The laptops usually have one LED indicating that the battery in being charged, and usually the color of this LED changes to indicate that the battery is fully charged.

    2) Are you guys suffering from touch-pad glitches? It is so annoying because it happens A LOT.
When I use the tap-to-click feature, some times the cursor jumps to another position. Is this some kind of driver bug or is this a problem of the touch-pad itself? This is really annoying because I use the touch-pad almost all the time.

I have the RBP rather than the RB on the RBP there is no light when the unit is powered down. There is a small light on the front lower left corner of my RBP that has a few different colors depending on what it is doing while asleep and while powered on. I can't say for sure on the RB though.

As for the touchpad on my RBP it is of course different since I have the Switchblade but I have not experienced the issues you are, could you perhaps try turning down the sensitivity?

    Hi Yosomono,

About the charging LED indicator, I called Razer Support today and they told me that the Razer Blade 14 doesn't have a charging/charged LED indicator. I found this so annoying because it is practically standard for a laptop to have this kind of indicator. In other words, it's impossible to know if it's fully charged when it's turned off.

Concerning to the touchpad issue, the cursor jumps around when I try to Tap-to-Click feature ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMmbSljWrJ4). I've tried every configuration with synaptic and nothing worked. I contacted Razer Support and they told me to re-install the drivers and apply a registry modification ( https://copy.com/8ZwAAWjqHpxq), but still it didn't get better. Right now they want me to return the Razer Blade 14 for repair or replacement. The problem is that I tried another Razer Blade 14 from a Best Buy shelf and it presented the exact same glitchy behavior. So I'm afraid to return it and it comes back with the same issue.
I also tried using Ubuntu and the problem also occur.

I am so frustrated about this...
It would be very appreciated if you guys tell me if you are also suffering from this problem.

I got my Razer Blade 14 a few days ago. I am upgrading from an Alienware m11x R2 which is an 11" gaming laptop that surprisingly weighs the same as this 14" Razer.

I was deciding between the Razer Blade 14 and the Gigabyte P34G but in the end I got the Razer 14. To me, the relevant differences were:

Both laptops are about the same size and weight, but the Razer is slightly thinner and has an aluminum body compared to traditional plastic body of Gigabyte.
Razer had slightly longer battery life according to head-to-head comparisons
Razer has 10% faster GPU according to head-to-head comparisons
Razer has an extra mSATA bay so you can add a second 500GB mSATA SSD if needed
Gigabyte has an extra 2.5" HD bay in addition to the occupied mSATA bay
Gigabyte has ethernet port, SD card reader, and VGA port, and 4 USB ports, while Razer has 3 USB ports
Gigabyte has 1080p IPS screen with wider viewing angles and superior contrast ratio, while Razer has a TN screen with faster response time (2ms GTG)
Gigabyte has 16GB RAM option, while Razer has 8GB max ram capacity
Gigabyte is $600 cheaper (comes with 128GB SSD, not 256GB SSD)

I ended up getting the Razer because the Gigabyte was out of stock everywhere and I needed a laptop now. Amazon.com lists the Gigabyte as being available for sale (with up to "12 left in stock") but when I actually place the order my order gets cancelled due to backorder status.

Now that I have the Razer 14, I have to say that the screen is not as bad as the professional reviews made it sound. The screen actually has superior contrast ratio and viewing angles than my Alienware m11x R2 (11" Alienware) and my Dell XPS M1330 (13" dell XPS). The screen is however less contrasty than my very old Dell 710m (12" Dell) and my iPAD's retina display.

HI mcham! Glad you are enjoying your new Razer Blade 14. Still rocking my Razer Blade R2 here! ^^
The Razer Blade 14 is definitely a powerhouse for such a small package.
In my opinion, the Razer Blade 14's screen isn't that bad but it can definitely be improved.
Though Min-Liang Tan did say that in order to achieve the 0.66 inches thin aluminium chassis on the Blade, a special display had to be designed. The lid on the 14 is definitely very very thin.

Finally, I have question for you. Do you know why on the new Razer Blades, the GTX 765m is running on the PCI Express x16 2.0 bus instead of 3.0? All other manufacturers running the exact same GPU are running on the 3.0 bus.
I was confused when I checked out the new Blades recently. Doesn't it lower the bandwidth a little?
Oh and if possible, I would like to know the new Blade 14's performance in Battlefield 4.
I'm rocking a GTX 660m and I can play Battlefield 4 with a mixture of high and medium settings with SSAO at 1920x1080 and still achieve and average of 35 fps without any overclock.

    Thanks and have fun! ^^

I do not know whether the Blade 14 GPU is running off a PCIe 2.0 bus, but frankly it doesn't matter.
The PCI Express x16 2.0 bus has a 4 GBit/s bandwidth whereas the PCI Express 3.0 has double the bandwidth at 8 GBit/s.
You will need a much faster GPU than the GTX 765m to require more than 4 GBit/s on that bus. That's why some vendors are able to pack two GPU's in a single card that fits in a single PCI Express x16 2.0 slot and still see a massive performance gain (Single-card SLI or Single-card Crossfire).

I don't have Battlefield 4 so I can't give you any numbers. I don't think I can post link to competitor web sites, but you can find many benchmark comparisons if you google:
    "mobile gpu comparison 2013"

they are bound to be running pcie 3.0, due to chipset specs.

the chipset that it uses has only pcie 2.0 x8, which then again is distributed among all the other things that need it

Quick question for those of you lucky people who already have the Razer Blade (14 inch):

What are the weight and dimensions of the whole box / packaging (with everything inside)?

I know someone who is willing to bring it from the States for me but only if I tell her how big and heavy the whole box is...

The box contains only the laptop, ac adapter, and small corner wedges of styrofoam. No heavy user manual or other accessories. The total weight is definitely under 5 pounds. The box itself is about 20 x 12 x 5 inches. Tell your friend to throw away the bulky box and just bring the slim laptop inside his/her carry-on bag.

    Duckyy,

Not sure if you ever got this resolved but I had the same issue and this is what support told me to do and it worked.

Firmware flashed using HTI advance method:
    1. Download The Firmware here: Razer Blade R2 Firmware Updater v1.02
    2. Shut down
    3. Press and hold the tenth Switchblade key
    4. Power the Blade on
    5. Keep the key pressed until windows loads
    6. Release the key
    7. Launch the firmware update
    8. Follow the prompts to start a firmware update.
an external keyboard and/or mouse may be required for this process

I am having issues overclocking the gpu on my razer blade 14 using msi afterburner, msi afterburner keeps the dgpu active at all times which I don`t mind since i can simply only open it when gaming and close it after however I have not experienced this on any other computers, also, when using msi afterbruner no matter what core or memory speeds i choose, it gives inconsistent performance, with framerates lower than at stock clocks, why is this and how can I fix it?, my laptop was shipped on windows 8.1, is there a version of msi afterburner better suited to 8.1?, thanks

    There are 3 boxes.

1 shipping box (I tossed this out immediately so I don't have dimensions and I also bought a razer mousepad that was included in the this box so you might not get this one)

1 Razer Blade outter 17x5x13 box - this one has the foam corners and suspends the sleek black blade box. (you don't really need this one either)

1 Razer Blade box (the one from the reviews that is black and green) - this one you should keep and is pretty small.

total shipping weight is 10.1lbs for me with the 3 boxes

    Hi ryajso!

I'm still rocking my Razer Blade R2 with the GTX 660M.
Regarding MSi Afterburner, I am also unable to use it at all. Based on the graphs in Afterburner, my GPU clocks are fluctuating. Every second it read 835Mhz and the next second 0Mhz. It continues forever, one after the other, rendering me unable to use it at all. Sometimes it can even give me astronomical numbers on my clocks. Something like 98123950213 Mhz.

    -_______-

In my opinion, don't use Afterburner for the time being. Right now, I am using EVGA Precision X instead and it definitely works.

On another note, does anybody around here knows how a carbon fibre vinyl sticker would look like on the Blade? I remembered someone on this forum did it before but I can't find any pictures.

    Cool, thanks for the info.

How long does it take to arrive?

I'm getting a friend to buy it for me in the States (I live in Hong Kong and the same 512 GB version costs about USD 900 more ), and was hoping to order it at the end of this month to have it delivered to her by the 14th (she flies back to Hong Kong on the 15th), but I fear that it might not reach her in time...

I ordered mine from NewEgg.com. It shipped from New Jersey and arrived New York the NEXT DAY using regular "5-day" shipping.
But note that my address is only a 2 hour drive away from the NewEgg New Jersey warehouse, so your shipping times may differ.

Was there a benefit to ordering from newegg instead of directly from Razer?

    for the razer blade 14.
what kinda settings in the nvidia panel and graphics panel did you all use to improve gaming performance?

any settings to improve wifi? seems to be signicantly slower in speed tests compared to my 3 year old sony vaio.

Choose prefer maximum performance, use fxaa instead of inbuilt anti aliasing or set anti aliasing to off since it consumes a lot of bandwidth, something the 765m does not have, set single display performance and use the control panel vsync instead of the games, be sure to enable triple buffering as well. Assuming you are on 8.1, there are new wireless drivers on Razer`s and Killer`s websites

    Woot just ordered mine.

Didn't get any discount though , so I'm wondering if I could ask Razer for a discount if they offer any later, since I ordered after their cyber deals countdown hit 0

Update: asked Razer if they could add the deals retrospectively and they just sent me an email telling me that they've added the free Razer Orochi and Hammerhead to my order. For future reference, anyone in the future who buys Razer stuff only to find a deal on the said stuff should seriously consider trying this.

It sounds like your battery has gone, something isn't letting the power from the battery make it to the motherboard to power anything. So its either the battery or the connector in my opinion!

edit: got it fixed by reformatting whole system using windows 7 disc (sadly i lost my recovery image)
i just installed latest version razer synapse 2.0 from razer.com
during boot up i got RzHome error message and script error.
i have installed the netframework 4 and 4.5 but error still occur.
the 10 buttons above the touchpad are all blank during start up.
but when i open up synapse 2.0 and click on "apps"
all the icons on 10 buttons showed up..

i believe razer switchblade and synapse 2.0 problem.

Does anyone know if I should be okay using the the US charger for the Razer Blade 14 in Hong Kong?

I'm thinking a simple adapter should be enough, but you never know with these things...

Yep no problem, the laptop charger is suitable for any AC input, from 110 to 240V.

Does anyone have Bioshock Infinite on Blade 14? Could you please run a benchmark test (pops up when you launch it in Steam)? With 1600x900 Ultra + DDOF settings on stock GPU clocks.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/In-Review-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-780M-GTX-770M-GTX-765M.93277.0.html

Not the Razer Blade, but it says here that the GTX 765M runs Bioshock Infinite at 23.6 fps at DX11 1080p on a similar-ish system.

The test system did have slightly better specs, but I imagine that given the decrease in screen resolution and better drivers, 30 fps seems achievable.

I could give it a run when I receive mine by the end of next week; can't wait!
