For sure, the 4K panel is meant for media consumption or content creation, as it almost meets adobe 100% gamut and has excellent viewing angles, high working resolution, etc. A FHD 144Hz or 120hz panel would be more optimal for gaming.

If you don't like it maybe we can arrange an exchange of sorts :p

Although, not having good battery life would kinda suck, and I heard the mechanical keyboard on the 4K RBP sucks compared to the standard keyboard they usually put into their computers, don't know if that's true or not.

The most unfortunate thing about the Razer Blade Pro is that it's still big/huge. And that's not exactly a bad thing that it's large, it's just that in my opinion once the system gets that large it really makes no difference about how thin it is. I might be in the minority here but the thinness of this laptop doesn't make any difference to me. I'd rather it have better cooling, bigger better fans or more fans/vents. Something along those lines, but I'm probably preaching to choir right now as it's probably been all said before.

If anything they seem to have learned a few things with the Razer 15, it's a substantial improvement with key takeaways that were probably derived from the Razer 14 and 17 Blade Pro....

so after 2 weeks with the machine I decided to return it. I am pretty disappointed with the machine as a whole I was looking for a Computer i can use for work which includes alot of MS office and using Google Earth and traveling alot i need something with decent battery life so I decided to purchase 3 laptops to decide which i would choose I got the 15" blade with 1070m the Zephyrus gx501 with gtx 1080m 8750h and this Blade pro with the gtx 1080

For those that are in the same boat here are the positives about the blade pro
    * beautiful Design, Well built
    * Love the Mechanical Keyboard and the track pad was great to use.
    * Good speakers it was loud with punchy bass you can custom install atmos drivers and it will really kick
*incredible battery life for the specs it has. on better battery setting in balanced mode i was getting 4.5 hours with 60% brightness thats amazing ,for this type of laptop.

unfortunately that's about it there are more negatives than positives for this guy

    * its gets extremely hot and uncomfortable doing nothing... Even on better batter setting in balanced mode with pandora playing while plugged in it gets so hot its untouchable with the battery in the palm rest its really uncomfortable even with a IcDiamond 7 repaste its idle temps where in the 60s in a air conditioned room ..... thats just no bueno. There are no exhaust options on this computer that contributes to the heat

    * the screen is atrocious. Like a user mentioned above its okay for editing and looking at still images but the abysmal response time and the colors are more saturated than a samsung super AMOLED panel its just jarring to look at and one of the worst panels for gaming i have ever used with really bad ghosting it will give you headaches if you plan on gaming on it.

    * WiFi performance is some of the worst I have ever experienced. I know razer likes to be brand whores and for a $4000 laptop they had to go full brand awareness but I have never in my life as a PC gamer had good experience with Killer WiFi cards.... ever..... and this was no exception. I have Fios gigabit connection and the Blade Pro REFUSED to connect to my home network neither my 2.4, 5g or AC. It would cause the card to completely disable and I would have to restart to connect. I updated drivers all the way down to a fresh windows install and nothing it refused to connect to my home network. I took the Intel AC 9620 out of the 15 put it in the Pro removed anything killer related installed the intel drivers and boom 870mb down no problems what so ever. Killer is trash and I wish companies would just make it an option or not include it at all.

in the end the computer is great to look at but horrible to use.

TL;DR if you are looking for a strong performance laptop look elsewhere the 15" blade with the 1070m is faster runs cooler has faster storage and the 1070m is only about 15% slower than the 1080 in the blade pro because of thermal limitations and the lower TDP of the card.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I've heard that this laptop was the last of the previous design approach for Razer. Starting with the Razer 15, all product design/development has moved to a new team and new location. I'm hoping things get better after this. Otherwise, this will likely be my first and last Razer machine.

They absolutely did the Razer blade 15 is hands down one of the best laptops i have ever owned. its practically silent, after a repaste she idles in the low 40s and after 3 matches of overwatch the CPU sits at a nice comfy 84c at 3.2ghz. Games that arent CPU happy it will sit in the low 70s while gaming. the GPU with a modest over clock of +150/+500 never goes above 74c and the way they put the fans the WASD keys have the fan under them so they are always cool and you feel the air on your fingers its really nice.

Also the screen is one of the best screens i have seen, Great colors its bright its great to look at good response times and with the 1070m it runs everything really well, It has optimus which sucks but on average work load of listening to music typing word documents and having chrome open with 6-10 tabs i get 6-8 hours of battery life. It uses Synapse 3 too which is lightweight a breeze to use and is much more clean and user friendly compared to Synapse 2 and Asus's command center.

the only complaint i have about this machine is i wish the speakers were a little better, they arent terrible but they arent loud and they lack bass so they sound very generic compared to the Zephyrus or the PRO, also the keyboard has a learning curve. The keys are on the small side and the ? key is next to the up arrow so you will hit up a few times before you get the ? down. which leads me to the final nit pick is the back lighting. The multimedia functions are not lit so its hard to get used to which multimedia keys are which unless you change the color of them in synapse to separate them.

TL;DR the 15 is Razer stepping up and showing they are going in a new direction the right way, It has the build quality you expect from them with Macbook level battery, gamer power, runs cool and has an amazing screen. Its the best laptop money can buy right now.

Couple of things so the ? mark thing is no different from the Razer Blade Pro, so if slim has dealt with it on the Razer Blade Pro then he should be fine for the 15, it's literally no different if you look at the keyboard right now you'll see what I mean. The Multimedia functions keys don't help by using synapse to change the color. Why? Because as soon as you hit FN they all turn white, so you then have to memorize if even for a second that is what and then press it. And even if you went that far to memorize it then you might as well actually memorize the F key or look at the F Key to see what was pressed. It does not help that when you hit the FN keys it all lights up in white.

Now if it was vice versa where you had it defaulted to the Multimedia Keys and then you hit FN to go back* to the F Keys then I agree the light up in white is fine and all is restored and great. However... while you can setup default to multimedia keys you have no ability to get back to the F Keys which is flat out dumb/stupid. Yes even if you hit FN "Function Key" it does not go register to go back to the F-Keys I've tried already and had no such luck. If someone could explain to me why the keys light up in White I'd appreciate it because right now I have no freaking clue why...

The easiest way to test this btw is the simple Alt F4 to shut down windows so basically set it up so that you default to multimedia keys, and then try to hit Alt F4 using FN keys or any combination. If you can get that to work I'll definitely send over rep points because I have no clue on how to set that up.

So for now I believe this is where Snyapse needs to improve or could use some improvement. It should work like the Caps Lock and Shift Key, just vice versa as to what has been selected.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by the Multimedia keys. They are good and work as intended but their functions dont light up like the play/pause/ volume. So if you dont know which F key does what then you will have to color coat them in synapse to know which is which. I think it would have been nicer if their multimedia functions were back lit as well. and as far as the FN key yea that is stupid you can either make them Multimedia or Function whis is kind of stupid. Logic would tell you that if you make the Multimedia the primary than the Fn key should make them Function but nope... heres to hoping they will update it

The weird key placement takes some getting used to. My opinion of the keyboard should be taken lightly, since I almost exclusively use my black widow, but the RBP keys are less than ideal. I've had to go back to using my Dell M6800 while my machine is being repaired and holy **** what a difference. The quality of the key stroke, consistency across all keys, overall key spacing. All much superior on the Dell.

Speaking of my RBP repair... I received word from HID that they are sending the machine to Razer today. Brief timeline:

Laptop received by HID on 8/20
Laptop sent to Razer from HID on 9/5

Can't say I'm impressed the turnaround time. That is 13 business days to take the machine and send it to someone else. 12 if you don't count Labor Day.

I don't expect greatness from Razer now that they have the unit. Taking bets on number of days I'm without my machine...

Lol @slimjim8201 we were both able to buy razer Blade Pro's try them out, hate them, and return them all in that same time period... I'm sorry you have to endure what you're going through nevertheless keep me posted as to your progress here... .

I apologize for finding humor in your unfortunate situation though, but i sincerely hope you're able to come out on top and I mean no ill will towards you.

I guess there is no getting around it. The Razer Blade Pro is not a good machine. If the price were 40% lower, it would still not be a good machine. It's fast, yes, but not that fast. It looks nice and is thin, but at what cost? That's a rhetorical question on several levels.

I bought it because it was fast and I liked the form factor. I travel with my laptop very rarely so prioritizing thinness probably shouldn't have carried so much weight.

I have gotten a pretty solid year+ of use out of the machine, battery bulge notwithstanding. I hope to get another 2 out of it but I have serious longevity concerns. I would almost prefer Razer to keep my unit and just replace it with a new Blade 15 1070 at this point.

As an owner of the Razer Blade 15, that would be the best scenario. I really like the Razer Blade 15 and it's definitely more of a laptop then the Razer Blade Pro will every be.

Under heavy load, it powered down and went completely dead. No amount of pressing the power button would bring it back on. Tried my spare power supply as well. I'm guessing something in the power circuitry or MOBO failed.

Yea I never purchase machines from their resellers, I stick to Best Buy or other outlets. Purchasing the laptop alone puts you in their elite prgram that will net you a $50 gift card and a 45 day return policy just for buying the machine and thier 1 year warranty is only $199 and has been pretty easy to use, ive had good experiences with it in the past and as they sell pretty much all new gaming laptops now they my second option next to Micro center anytime it comes to buying laptops.

Latest update. I will not be getting the machine back in the near term. Two of the GPU fan cables were damaged by a screw upon inspection at HID. Not sure if this happened during the Razer rebuild or the HID thermal interface material application. Either way, it's going back to Razer with a new RMA. It's been two months since I shipped the unit to HID for repairs and now it's going back into the Razer service black hole.

@Donald@HIDevolution , I understand that hardware issues crop up. I've had my share of issues in the past with Dell and HP workstation laptops. But even those problems, many of which involved replacing motherboards, were remedied within 1 week. A few times, within two days. To be perfectly blunt, the turnaround time here is abysmal.

One positive note is that my main POC through the HID online ticket system (Juan) has been responsive.

Hey Guys! I'm new here and I have Razer Blade pro with GTX 1080. As we all know it gets very loud and hot.
Sooooo... Any chance i can get it better? Something like Deliding and Liquid metal? Anyone done it here?
I have a friend who Delided my i9 Extreme processor in PC and temps got better, would something like these help the laptop.
If so, someone who did it, can you please share any instructions or recomendations? Will really appreciate it!

You can do LM on a BGA laptop, but whether it's actually worth it in the long term is a toss-up. Better to use something like Thermal Grizzly.

But is it worth it puting in Liqued metel? Wouldn't good thermal paste last longer and give basically the same result? Cause I want to do it ones and last for 3 yars+. I use the laptop ones in 2 weeks. Metal will dry ?

Best decision I ever made was to return this and get the 2018 15" model. This was such a disappointment I expected better of this machine. the new model is so far ahead of this to any of those on the fence about what model to choose avoid the 17" for now and see if they refresh it.

Be vert careful as you have to remove the entire motherboard to repaste.

honestly Liquid metal didnt help me much, I went from Arctic Sliver 5 to thermal grizzly liquid metal and only saw a 5c difference o average. The cooling in this laptop is just not very good. You will still get high high 50s low 60's in idle and see stress temps go into the high 80s its just the nature of the beast.

For me it's amazing. I cant go smaller than 17.3 inch, its already too small for editing videos and photos. 15 inch is too small for me, I will always pick 17. I've done repasting, and it got a bit better - Maybe. Also i got it second Hand in perfect conditions for 2500$, so Cant complain. I would really really want to see same laptop but with i9 and improoved cooling, than, for me it will be PERFECT.

For those following... Day 60. No RBP.

That is, HID received the unit at their facility 60 days ago. I'm so torn on the HID extended warranty. On one hand, it does allow the machine to be covered beyond the pitiful 1 year standard Razer warranty. On the other hand, when it comes to servicing a Razer unit, HID is a middle man in the process. In this case, based on service responses, I'm estimating that an additional 20+ days have been spent with this machine sitting in queues at HID.

At the end of the day, I think HID could have been faster with this unit considering it wasn't being serviced in house, and I'm sure I'd have the unit back had it been anything but a Razer. I'm not sure there is a good moral to this story.

Machine arrived yesterday. Haven’t run any exhaustive tests yet but the CPU is WAY cooler after liquid metal. I saw high 70s for both cpu and gpu on a quick Aida64 test. Few degrees better on the GPU but almost 20 on the CPU.

So initial testing went quite poorly. I was getting blue screens has massive software issues. Decided to try the "reset PC" option in Windows and things are much smoother now. Feels like a new machine.

I've run a few tests and performance and thermals look pretty good. With the machine set to performance mode in Synapse, Firestrike scored 16,038 (19774/12965). Firestrike barely dings the CPU though so I don't think the 43x multipler Synapse sets in XTU is going to fly. To get that graphics score, I use a custom voltage curve in Afterburner to set a max voltage of 0.9V @ 1835 Mhz. Runs MUCH nicer than the stock curve and comes no where close to the 150W power limit on the gimped GTX1080 in the RBP.

Will probably disable the performance mode crap so I can run my own undervolt on the CPU.

I'll have more data to report back after some extended sessions.

It’s nice Firestrike score for Blade Pro, I remember last last year when I saw this thread it was not even surpass 15K.
Is that with synapse 2? I didn’t notice any performance mode there btw.

Yes, this is all with Synapse 2. Synapse 3 doesn't support the RBP. All other peripherals have switched over for me at this point. Blackwidow, deathadder elite, the mouse mat, etc.

Here is data from a more recent test this morning. I've since gone back to stock voltage on the CPU. For some reason, the machine is less stable now with undervolting. Can't put my finger on it, but frankly, I don't need to undervolt anymore after having liquid metal added. The temps are so much cooler now.

First, I cooked the machine with Furmark and and CPU Burn. Then I immediately ran 4 back to back firestrike tests to examine the system power mode in balanced and performance and the GPU at stock voltage and undervolted/overclocked settings in Afterburner.

    CPU only burn tests numbers:

    Balanced mode (3.5Ghz) 75C @ ~35W
    Performance mode (3.8Ghz) 80C @ ~45W

Note that I have performance mode at 3.8Ghz instead of 4.2Ghz. At full load with 4.2Ghz, the power draw goes up to 53W, which the machine will not hold for more than about 10 seconds. It dynamically adjusted the clock down to 3.8Ghz after the power cut. During games, the CPU rarely sees full utilization. At 50-60% usage, the 4.2 Ghz holds strong.

Out of curiousity, I just ran a few tests to see how much extra juice the machine draws from the battery during usage.

I'm running the stock voltage on the CPU, leveraging Razer's built-in modes (performance and balanced). No XTU mods. I do have a custom voltage curve in Afterburner for the GPU

    Valley loop. 3440x1440.

Just using the standard 230W supply.

Isn’t the power supply is 250 Watt? I see great values there, quite energy efficient.

You are correct. 250 not 230...

After cpu and gpu have got theirs you still have +60w capacity left for the rest of the system. Have you tried to measure maximum wattage from the wall with a Kill-A-Watts? With psu running energy efficient around 85% you should see +250w from the wall before the battery boost have to kick in. Even more if the psu is 250w version.

    Hello All,

I have probably just received the deal of a lifetime on a Razer Blade Pro (7820hk/1080). Bought it lightly used from someone on facebook marketplace for $1000.00! Come to find out that the machine is practically brand spanking new and has NO signs of use or issues. My question is, should I just sell it for a Razer blade 15 w/ RTX 2080 MaxQ or keep the machine and use it? How much faster in gaming is the RTX 2080 MaxQ vs the crippled 1080?

According notebookcheck on rtx2070 Blade review it’s % slower than its 2070mq 2080 should...idk no review yet, maybe around 20% like Triton 2080mq. 113BBA4F-546D-45B0-8C0F-6D92F9B097CA.jpeg

My timespy benchmark comparison below. I posted all of my scores but will focus on the GFX component
    • Total - 6,194
    • GFX - 6,801
    • CPU - 4,116
Notebookcheck Timespy GFX scores for reference:
    • GTX 1080 MaxQ - 5,868
    • GTX 1080 (Laptop) - 6,917
    • GTX 1080 (Desktop) - 7,246
    • RTX 2070 MaxQ - 6,028
    • RTX 2070 (Laptop) - 7,422
    • RTX 2070 (Desktop) - 9,373
    • RTX 2080 MaxQ - 7,497
    • RTX 2080 (Laptop) - 9,542
    • RTX 2080 (Desktop) - 11,112
I think 1080p tests are not well suited to the RBP. The faster 6 core processors of newer machines will help push more frames at lower resolutions. Once you get out of CPU bottleneck range and into higher resolutions, the true nature of the GTX 1080 in the RBP is shown. It is clearly leagues above the 1080 Max-Q and the 2070 Max-Q, almost reaching the "laptop" version performance. It truly is a slightly de-tuned 1080 laptop card, and not a crippled Max-Q variant. Of course, this machine shipped right before Max-Q came out and I have no doubts that Razer would have shipped it with the Max-Q variant were it available. Lucky for us...we got a ~140W card and not a ~90W card.
