Getting 1266 as I got with a mobility chip with stock RAM is a very good comparison to stock 8700K. Papusan just has an undeniable vendetta against all laptops that are not socketed (do not get me wrong a socket is always better!) but to get laptops as thin as possible you do not have the luxury of a socket. I absolutely love how thin my RB15 is compared to the clevo p870dm3 I replaced it with.Joikansai likes this. -
What I in short said... Neither the predecessor i7-8750H or i7-9750H is near 8700K. This is all I said. And I have never talked about or mentioned in my posts anything about better vs worse. See... BGA vs. LGA. I just clarified the differences. +1460 vs. 1300 is more like 160 points or around 4.5 bin. Take it for what it is. And for last time... Binned chips or not does't matter in this context. We talk about low clocks. Even below stock clock speed.

I agree, I had Sager 8268/Clevo P150sm years ago and that ship has sailed, no need to travel with 9lb ballast anymore. I love everything about the 9750h equipped Blade, other than keyboard and Synapse3. I wish there was a way to have custom fan curves and separate software to control keyboard backlight. That thing costs me almost 1000 firestrike points.
Oh, so all of that was about wording and not about my inability to perform scientifically accurate test results leading to appalling 5% difference. Good to know. Binned chips don't matter, people who buy binned chips do. I'll tell you what - when I'll have a moment I'll match your score on 8700k and will save a list of all the stuff I had to do. I'm travelling next two weeks so it will have to wait.

Once again, Binned 8700K or not doesn't matter for the scores we here talk about (stock or underclocked). A ordinary or better say an average 8700K chips will nicely run equal a Binned at those clocks. Even oc'd within its own clock range. We don't talk about high clock speed (see maxed oc'd) and pushed to near throttling point where the Binned chips can have an advantage if it can run higher clocks or at lower temp vs. lower binned one. It seems we talk about different things. But I shall not occupy the thread much longer.

Beside drivers, undervolting/overclocking bsod can be also happened by new ram, nothing to worry that’s like a breakfast for most tweakers here
I had even orange screen of death lol.

can't really argue with them, just the title of the thread has inept issue.
even if it does give control and not throttle due to PL, the actual hardware with heatsink will eventually be a limit in their thin laptop just the way it is.
razer knows this, so they make shared heatsink with lots of copper all the time as it is their only real way to tackle the problem. -

it isn't bad because of the joint heatsink and amount of copper capacity in the laptop, which ties to exactly what i said. because it's thin ness, dissipation isnt good so it has to target the problem by giving it more capacity to store heat to slowly dissipate it.
once your capacity is all filled up, any load will be a huge up in temp, just how it is mate. if you wanna think of it similar to lots of these TLC SSD with dram buffer that store stuff to make it look fast in benchmark but in reality TLC is crap and slow. -
Of course temps will be lower if the 6 core chips don’t can’t run at expected clock speed. Lower clock frequency = lower voltage. Lower voltages = Lower power consumption. Lower power consumption = Less heat

Yes it makes sense, some users reported as well hot cassis while doing something intensive like gaming, because the cassis transfer the heat from parts inside. Because I monitor intensively the temperature and play around with Synapse and other 3rd software to keep it run cooler, I can get my Blades free of thermal issues, not long enough to say it’s successful though, of course sometimes performance down would be the trade off, but it’s better than having 2K paperweight. It’s how we keep this thin light gaming category longer imo.
I think it’s on balanced mode which’s tdp locked to 25 watt, great for playing far cry 5 to keep the temperature on 80ish. But on user r15 result (Razer forum that i linked) which I think on costum high performance he said he got close to 1300 (though he’s comparing different cpu, base 2018 8750H vs 2019 9750H)
Sidenote, Razer is often also changing the power limit depends bios version, could also got high r15 without fooling cpu before, I think I posted here somewhere. -
The Base cooling is great IMHO, my stress test, 15 minutes AIDA + Heaven, in Creator Synapse3 mode so max 45+80W CPU + GPU. I simply don't understand how that vapor chamber works at all in a laptop, this should be used to spread heat over large area - if there was a heatsink on top of it the size of the whole chamber - yeah, that would be great. But the actual heat exchange and associated vapor condensation occurs only in small area on top of the actual heatsinks, which are the same size as the ones used in heatpipe model. If anything I would expect such design to be less efficient in transporting heat away from CPU/GPU than heatpipes, which are designed for this exact purpose - one dimensional heat transport.
Edit - I was actually loosing charge from battery during that test, about 5W. The Base comes with 180W power adapter.

they would do a lot better if they make it like 2mm thicker, or just straight up add a 3rd fan. unified heatsink works great in theory for CPU or GPU load but not when both are stressed. to not allow temp go up too quickly when both CPU/GPU stressed they have to put a massive capacity for it so their idea of directing it off chassis is one way to tackle it.
imo 3rd fan would keep that chassis temp low and give some real decent dissipation in exchange for a bit more noise.Joikansai likes this. -
I think Razer put priority on design and portability to make it most portable gaming laptop, adding extra Fans would make them lose the competition, Blade 15 is already step down in term compact form compared to its predecessor, they even try to make it lighter by changing anchors to a plastic and thinner bottom lid cover. On 2019 model they put 5300 rpm fans speed I think this’s also what made it cooler than 2018 Model which had 5000rpm but not huge.
That is Blade base rtx 2060 right? Of course it’ll discharge under heavy load, 2060 Blade 15 advanced and a bit slower 1070maxq use 230 watt. Is it proprietary ac adapter power? -
Yes, same custom oval plug, I'll have to grab the 230W for the low price of $140. I'm surprised 180W wasn't enough, that was only 125W between CPU and GPU, where did remaining 55W go? Unless they cheat on spec and 180W is only spike and sustained is lower.

Not all notebook ODM allow max utilization from the power adapter(crippled with firmware). With 80% max efficiency from the 180w Psu you should see up about 220w from the wall. Use a kill-a-watt for measuring max wattage.Thysanoptera likes this.

I'm sorry, the power brick actually says 200W, I was so convinced it is 180 I didn't even look at it. But - at the wall, when starting the test on cold system it oscillates closely around 180W, like +-2W, later it start dipping as low as 160W, it never even gets close to 200W. at the fricking wall. I'm not amused, what is this, did they just slap a different label on 140W adapter - assuming around 80% efficiency? That's BS of epic proportions. Battery discharge is anywhere between 1 and 12W. It follows the same pattern, so they baked some power delivery algorithm somewhere, or maybe that's AIDA/Heaven repeating the same. That's the discharge rate trend:

Finally got this working! The only wierd thing is Throttle Stop says the cores are only staying at 2.6 during cinebench, and not turboing. Turbo boost should be enabled so i dont know whats going on there.

You either have a 26 lock in throttlestop under FVIR, processor power management set to below 100% in Windows power settings, or disabled turbo in BIOS. Check also synapse performance settings.

Then try to revert original bios see if it still happens, maybe other reason like NVIDIA Driver, btw Razer announced recently Nvidia Driver for fixing bsod recently. I don’t have bsod though so I didn’t install it.

That's because it is most likely not a 230W adapter. I did some additional tests on my own, labeled as 200W, and 200W is the max it would pull from the wall, so looks like 160W adapter. When the battery is fully charged it would actually drop the power at the wall to 180W and start using battery to get what's missing. Something is fishy here.

Can't quite get my head round the switching to Balanced profile for this "hack" to work - am I missing something here? Switching to Balanced is forcing my TDP back down to 35 watts which introduced PL throttling again when benchmarking. The laptop is the fastest it's ever felt after the BIOS mod tho, I must say.

Ah stupid mistake on my part. Turned out I did not have all the intel drivers installed, which is why it would not go above base clock. Works perfectly after installation.

Not it’s 230 watt power adapter but probably Blade Pro 2080maxq pulls all that 230 watt, gpu it self can spike to 140 watt when I’m not wrong, Blade15 2080 maxq only spiking maybe 100 watt with same 230 watt ac adapter, mine 1070maxq also same spiking to 100 and I could put the brick on my lap

Look at those trends. This is me trying to pull max power from the adapter. In gaming mode, so 35W+90W, with spikes to 45W on CPU (looks like they changed it, it used to be 60W). Battery charging drops to zero when it spikes to 45W+90W. Charging is about 10W when the load is 35+90. Let's add 10W for the rest of stuff and being generous divide it by 0.9 to account for VRM efficiency and the max it is pulling from the adapter is 161W. The reading at the wall is 200W all the time, except the last part when I turned Heaven and AIDA off and charging went to almost 50W. If you have any other explanation why it doesn't pull more than 200W from the adapter while there is easily demand surpassing this, I'm all ears.
It doesn't look like 200W adapter with Level VI efficiency rating (>88%) - as written on label, but rather 160W adapter with about 80% efficiency. -
I said about Blade Pro not 15. Do your math here (screenshot) of notebookcheck stress prime, it pulled only 100 watt though but I saw here or other forum it can pulled up to 140watt, plus that cpu tdp and other parts, it pulled more than 230 watt on maximum use cases. Blade Pro scored highest graphics performance once (idk know) is also because this higher gpu tdp and most probably vrm that can supply more power, because any other laptops that flashed Blade Pro bios can’t score the same performance. So using same power brick with Blade 15 for more hardware demand would make it hotter. Other example I just tried buddy stealth 2017 that use 65 watt power brick from my 2016 that use 45 watt and that brick is really hotter than normal. Different hardware demand need different power supply.

Those spikes listed as Maximum on HwInfo are just that - spikes, I see 100W spikes on my GPU even when it is limited to 80. But that's just instantaneous and not necessary at the same time as CPU spikes. Look at average values, notebookcheck really made a meaningless screenshot, like half an hour after they ended the test.
But that doesn't really matter, and I don't really care about other SKU's - my point is - I have a machine that can pull 200W of power, have a power supply that's supposed to provide it, but the max I'm getting is 160W. That's all - power supply label doesn't match the actual power output. -
Make sure your stress test doesn't bang the memory too much, in AIDA unchecked the memory stress, in primes run small FFTs. And 9750h maxes out at 4.0 GHz on all cores, 8750h at 3.9GHz.

Yes one core can spike up to 4,1ghz by the tweak on 8750H, depends what you’re doing so you’ll notice sometimes 4,1 max value but that’s not at same time.
I wasn’t talking about other laptops, you quoted other user post about Blade Pro hot power brick and told something that I think is wrong and answered that. -
Oh, ok, my reasoning was if my own power adapter is, let's say - "mislabeled" - the one bundled with Pro or Advanced may also be, creating an equivalent of the situation you described with the 45W adapter powering the stealth.
EDIT - mystery solved, looking at the new Stealth I read the review of the 2019 on notebookcheck, they measure power at the wall and sure enough 65W adapter was pulling 65W. So that is systematic, I'm really surprised nobody called Razer out on it before.Last edited: Sep 3, 2019 -
That early 2019 Blade stealth had power issue on first bios, the system just runs over power than power brick could delivery resulting battery discharge after some gaming session. I think he mentioned it somewhere on notebookcheck article about the possibility issues. After bios update the performance is crippled and some user use this imon tweak to fool cpu getting rid power limitation but have to use I think amazon 90 watt power adapter to run it.

Has anyone else tried messing around with the CPU Flex Ratio? I've got mine set to a multiplier of 18 at the moment, but with updates and installing my necessary software, my cpu has idled enough to see if it is working effectively or not.

I'm sure you can just pull your ratios down to 18 in the FIVR menu in Throttlestop to see if it's working? My Flex is @ 8 for Battery profile and works perfectly.

Yeah, I realized if I change the SpeedShift I could for it to drop lower. Are you changing the Flex in BIOS, or just changing the Non Turbo Ratio to 8? And if you are doing it in BIOS, does your Task Manager show the proper Speed in Performance Tab? I've got mine set to 12 in BIOS and TaskManager shows it as running at 1.2GHz even though ThrottleStop shows it running at 4.0

It's modded in BIOS yeah, turbo needs turned off I think, I'm moving all the sliders in the bottom left of the FIVR tab to 8.
I've never used Performance tab in Windows Task Manager to monitor anything tbh, only Throttlestop, HWInfo etc.Last edited: Sep 14, 2019 -

It is either you increase the TDP with a modded vbios and flashed through hardware programmer or flash the stock (no modification made to the vbios) full 1070 vbios dumped from other system using nvflash and cap the Voltage / Frequency line at a point the temperature / power is suitable for you.

You really should make your own thread for this as you aren’t going to be getting many people’s interest in that here. Although like someone said above editing it yourself (mobile pascal vbios tweaker) can get you somewhere but you’d need to flash it with an spi programmer which is very risky if you flash the wrong thing so I wouldn’t advise doing it if you aren’t comfortable.
