This is a shot in the dark, but since the Razer Blade switches from active (fan) cooling to passive (thermal) cooling when switching to battery, the BIOS may have additional thermal safeguards on battery to keep ahead of temperature runaway while relying solely on passive cooling.

That actually makes sense. I wonder if there's a way to disable it or at least tweak it so it allows the temps to go higher. 60c while under load really isn't that bad on here.

    EDIT:

Can someone confirm these numbers look good, this is with the settings from the first post.

Also a shot in the dark, but the CPU clock speeds while under a prolonged load would be interesting. XTU has a boolean readout of CPU VRM thermal throttling, but as far as I know it can combine that readout into the thermal throttling readout on some systems. Did you by any chance change the thermal compound and had problems reapplying the heatsink? The CPU temperatures are absolutely fine, but the MOSFETs will throttle under load when not properly cooled.
Also people who apply liquid metal as a thermal conductor often put electrical tape around the die, which may cover sensors around the CPU resulting in faulty readouts such as this.

Having the 8750H I can't precisely confirm, but they look fine according to other numbers with this CPU (which seem to hover around 2600-3000 points). This means that your CPU clocks fine. To be absolutely sure I'd run an hour of Prime95 with small FFTs and watch the clock speeds. If they fluctuate heavily while the CPU core temperatures are under control, the VRM is probably throttling, and that's something that should be fixed. Unfortunately the Blade 15 motherboard doesn't have accessible VRM temperature readouts.

Tried flashing BIOS twice after modding and even though in the original BIOS settings were chanegd and I see it changed after I open it with AFUWINGUI it doesn't change the BIOS. Any ideas?

Are you using the original NVME? There are many little tricks in the BIOS to prevent you from getting access to new menus easily. You can see my thread here for how to unlock complete control of the BIOS. http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...otential-to-unlock-all-hidden-options.830993/

Wait you are saying I need to put the original nvme in there to do the BIOS flashing? I have upgraded it with a 2TB inland nvme.

No, the flashing likely worked fine. Razer has implemented another setting such that certain NVME drives will trigger another mechanism to hide the additional options you attempted to unhide. In order to get around it, you have two options. You can pull out the drive, access the BIOS, make your changes then put the drive back in. Or you can go to the thread I linked to and make more advanced changes to the BIOS such that you bypass the second line of option hiding. Which machine do you have?

Got the PM and flashed and BIOS now unlocked! Question is should I go and do the updates in BIOS as per the OP on this post? I think that's for the 8750 but will be the same or similar with the 9750?

So don't use the settings as the OP if you have a 9750H. My laptop somehow turned on by itself and was heating up in my backpack on its own. System got so hot that screen was blank and too hot to touch.

Just so I don't cause confusion, the setting I used in BIOS might have caused the issue of my laptop. Not sure if anyone else would experience this but it could be several issues that could have been user error as well. I thought I had shutdown the system but might have closed the screen before it fully shut down and was still on or the power plan didn't allow sleep mode when screen is closed, not sure as the laptop is at home now. Somehow though I think it was turned on by itself somehow unless the battery lasted really long as I unplugged it 4pm EST and found it burning in my laptop at 930pm EST so roughly 5h30minutes on battery.

Yes, you can still implement the same changes, they will work fine. If you want to run your laptop at absolute full power, do the IMON Slope changes. This will increase temps and power given to the system, so may ultimately decrease the life of your product, or have other unintended negative consequences. So do this at your own discretion.

Probably not until you make one. Go to my other thread for detailed info how to do it, if you have questions, ask them over there.

This is an issue with several windows laptops, including the Razer. It doesn't happen frequently, but it does happen. You just have to make sure that it is completely off before storing it away.

@stranula just to clarify, do you only need the IMON Slope = 50 setting or do you need the -31999 offset as well?

In testing, I found that if I only set the slope, full 6 core boost at 4.0ghz reports 44W, so it doesn't throttle. But by not setting the offset, I can more easily throttle myself when on battery. So its up to you to decide what to do

I don't believe it should impact the GPU, where it could have an impact in gaming is that if you prevent power limit throttling, the CPU will run at higher clocks during gaming, and thus could see a resulting performance boost.

No clue what changed but now my laptop is running 60-65c when plugged in and a little cooler when unplugged. Like the CPU isn't stepping down or something, not sure. Battery life has gone from 4-5 hours down to about 2 hours. Definitely shouldn't be running this hot when idling and undervolting by a bit. Was fine for a few weeks.

I am planning on doing this on my Razer Blade Stealth 13" late 2019. What should I do differently from the OP? Tips before I start? As far as I understand the only real difference should be the IMON values or am I wrong?

I followed the guide and used the screenshot from the other thread when modding bios in the RSB late 2019. Still when I benchmark with userbenchmark it says the cpu is throttled at "86% by Windows". I checked the plan settings for ultimate and it says maximum processor state is at 100%. Suggestions?

I modded the file according to this thread. Was there any difference between them?

I have gone through the whole guide and can change options in bios. They are just under slightly different titles.

    Hi Guys,
New to this so please bear with me!
I have the RBS13 late 2019 - When the dGPU is enabled, the processor is limited to 15W, when it is disabled the processor limit rises to 25W.
I assume that this change is controlled by Razer Synapse?

What I want to achieve is perhaps a 20W limit when the dGPU is enabled, instead of 15W - I believe this will be a suitable compromise. So I have some questions:

    1. What exactly do these do? I understand they set up new Windows power plans, but what is the difference in each?

    2. Would I be correct in thinking that OP effectively removed the power limit, so the system relies on other things like temperature and frequency limits to safeguard?

3a. Would it be feasible to simply leave the IMON slope at default, and use an IMON offset of -5000 (5W)?
3b. Would this also mean that when the dGPU is disabled, the processor limit would inadvertently rise to 30W?

4a. If I uninstall Razer Synapse, will the power still limit in the same way?
4b. Does changing the IMON offset have an effect on things like battery life estimates and other power readings?

Sorry if any of these questions are in the thread already - I had a good read and still couldn't answer them so hopefully I'm not just being slow.
    I appreciate your time,[/QUOTE]

You can ignore any of the windows settings. You can also leave synapse on or off - without synapse, the computer should behave as if synapse were running in balanced mode.

One approach that may be more in line with what you want is to leave the IMON offset at default, and then change the IMON slope to 50. This way the reported power should be exactly 1/2 of the actual power. (You could do some other value, but 50 makes the math really easy).
Then use something like throttlestop to limit power. So if you want 20W actual, set the limit in throttlestop to 10W. Then the limit is always 20W actual (with or without the dGPU active), until you change the setting in throttlestop.

Alternatively, you could set the IMON slope to 0.75 and not set a limit in throttlestop. Then when the computer thinks it's at 15W, it'll actually be at 20W. With the dGPU off, the CPU will think it's running at up to 25W but in reality it'll be running at up to 33W.

Thanks for the reply - will leaving it at 33W damage it, or will it thermal throttle first?

Also, why do you suggest changing the IMON slope, and not the offset?

As for damage - the chip should be able to throttle or, worst case, shut down. However - you should not consider this endeavor risk free. We don't know what the power delivery components on the motherboard are capable of.

As for adjusting the IMON slope but not the offset - they both adjust power reported, in different ways. Power reported = (real power * IMON slope/100) + IMON offset/1000. So you could adjust either or both to get where you want to be. For example, you could leave slope at default and make the offset - 5000.

Edit: to be clear, when I say it can still thermal throttle, I mean that I have tested with this specific configuration (just the change in IMON slope, none of the other changes listed to windows or IMON offset or any of that). The first thermal throttling mode that you'll run into where it ramps down the power limit still works - it'll just keep lowering the power limit until it gets the temperature down. Being off by 50% doesn't prevent that.

I suspect that there's also other throttling modes (like reducing the maximum frequency), but I'm not going to test that.

Then of course if everything goes horribly wrong and none of that works properly, it should still be able to shut itself down as a final safety measure.

Hey guys, what would be the recommended IMON settings for the RBS 13” with 1650 dgpu? CPUZ is showing 15w with and without enabling DGPU, so I’m not sure where can I verify the current wattage and if changes are reflecting. Thanks for help

You can check this page for values I uploaded it pretty similar with values with Blade 15 here. For checking wattage try using intel power gadget.
I think 9750H is coming with -100mV Undervolting try lowering it to -70, on 8750H with more than -70 I had also BSOD.

Didn’t check passmark but on 3Dmark, cinebench it bumped cpu score as expected due running always on highest clock, on real usage like gaming I don’t feel default actually worse, both for my use case are fine, so maybe for around a month I use default one since I prefer cooler temperature.

    Hello everyone,

I just tried doing this on a 2019 version, RTX 2080 (+ 32 GB ram and +2 TB Intel NVMe, if it matters somehow) and no matter what, the CPU VR menu doesn't show up.

I'm not even posting pictures or anything because it looks just like in the uploaded screenshots, but yet, they don't show when I reboot.

I'm attaching the modded bios just in case someone wants to have a look at it.

Did this happen to anyone else? Can anyone help with that?

    Thanks.

Its the NVME, you have to do a lot more mods to the BIOS to get it to work with the new NVME. You can find more info here http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...otential-to-unlock-all-hidden-options.830993/

Hey. I bricked my blade doing this a while back (I wasn’t following this specific guide, I stupidly downloaded a custom bios from a Razer blade 2017 ultimate optimisation guide that was pinned on the Razer Reddit page) and I’ve been wondering how I’d go about removing the brick, could you possibly help me out or point me in the right direction?

Razer have told me it will cost £1000 to fix..

Unfortunately, there's no other way than to flash the BIOS chip via an external device, since we don't know how Razer implemented BIOS flashback, if at all (likely not at all).

I've mentioned the tool here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ll-hidden-options.830993/page-9#post-10980631. Using this, you'll be able to flash a fresh and correct BIOS to the BIOS chip on the motherboard (of course only the right region, the one you overwrote back when you bricked the device), which should get the machine going again if it all works out.

Is there a workaround for this on the RB17 Pros that ship with a -100 undervolt at boot? This loadline change will crash it right?

You should be able to get good results without changing the loadline. I believe the only change you actually need to make in any of this is either the IMON slope or IMON offset (just one - no need for both). An IMON slope of -50 will mean that the system thinks the CPU wattage is 1/2 of actual.

So if you're actually at 60w, it'll think it's 30. That means that on, say, balanced mode with a 35W limit, you can actually run at 70W (assuming cooling keeps up).

That being said - I've only tried this on a blade stealth, where only adjusting the IMON slope works just fine.
