    Hello together :)

so it seems that i have different problems.... my system is a p170hm with a 6990m and i like to make the 7970m v1.1 working.
at the moment i got an old problem, vBIOS from the **EM is on the 7970m, my p170hm do not boot up (problem from 31.Dec. 2012, Prema should remember), this is happen because i had the problem that the driver was noch working.... 7970m was working but in sBIOS "VGA Slot: EMPTY" and after 14.4 Catalyst installation (and 13.12) i get blue screen short before the login screen of Win7, so that why i try to load the EM vBIOS. after that i want to switch back, but not Bios is not loading .... Prema, you answered to moral hazard on page 9 via PM for that problem.

as first i like to get a screen back with the 7970m (my 6990m works still... somehow)
after that i need a solution for the driver problem ... stop 0x0000007e atikmdag.sys
i allready tried to fix it but no success

i followed the procedure of jaybee83, so i think i'm on the right way.

    cheers!

    Hey rezilla,
    I have v1.1 7970m in my alienware.
There are issues white bleach on bootup etc but you must run the eurocomm vbios from memory to get it to work. With the enduro off vbios it works gets into Windows but it don't work in 3D.

    Hope this helps.
Check my posts I wrote more about it in the past.
Never tried the 7970m v1.1 in my clevo.

1.1 7970M cards don't work in PxxxHM. Doesn't matter if you use the correct vBIOS's or not, the driver will just crash.
It is a newer hardware design and essentially a 8970M.

Only the older original 1.2 7970M boards work.

    Funny numbering system there.
Would one have to modify the amd driver like the nvidia 680m in the clevo's for the OS to see the card cause on my alienware I can get the enduro off bios to work but the 3D functionality does not work probably AMD driver related.. does anyone know how to modify the amd drivers to see the 7970m? cause thats all that is required.

Prema would you know if these v1.1 7970m's are compatible with PXXXEM/SM clevo's?

Would a MSI 7970M work on a Clevo P150HM? I've read of Dells not working, but nobody spoke of MSI ;S

Hi Everyone! I have P150HM that had a 6990M. It crapped out and i'm looking to replace it with this 7970M card on Ebay. I read the first post on how to blind flash, but noticed that the card 7970m on ebay is version 1.1. I've read other posts in this thread saying that people have been problems with this version. Has there been a fixed? Thanks!

Well, guess I bought a bricked/dead Clevo 7970M Card..but the seller did make that clear from the start.

Tried blind flashing it...still Black screen, but everything powers on...just not the screen.

Is there anything I can do with the Card to revive it? :)

Here is the Card purchased from eBay...and Again, was bought at my own risk:

Yes, and it's free :) . Doesn't quite smell like cookies though.

If that doesn't work you could buy a new vbios chip or chip programmer; the price is identical, some 20$ ... so might as well get the programmer, it could have a use in other projects too.

You could use VBE7 for that, although you might want to undervolt instead, no?

    So ... working HDMI ... care to send/share that vbios :) ?

It might be ICs other than gpu and memory that are overheating. Or the battery can no longer cope, which might explain why it worked before; higher capacity and less inaccurate charge reporting (the "80% left" to "1% left" in seconds thingy). And power adapters don't have eternal life either.

To rule out temperature; do a heavy run next to the airco (or in the fridge).
To rule our battery; remove battery and run benchmark.
To rule out adapter; well ...

Meaker's suggestion to check the memory is a good one. They offer lifetime warranty and yet still had a Kingston suddenly corrupting data :( . No need to test dimms separately though, you could simply use a bootable device with Memtest86+ for that. Pays to keep a disc at the ready; boot with the usb/cd/dvd and it runs straight away. The tests (optionally on auto-repeat) are heavy enough to seriously stress the sodimms; pass and they're solid (as a brick).

Hi, I have a MS-16F2-ID1 MSI Whitebook as base for my laptop, there's a broken GTX570M in there now.
Would it be possible to upgrade it to a 7970M with the method from this thread if I get the appropriate heatsink and PSU?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, i ran a 7970m in my 16f2 with modified heatsink and psu. Be aware it was a first revision gpu which was the most compatible.

Have you searched the regular haunts like techpowerup? He will want a 180W brick and be aware his motherboard was designed to run 50-75W cards and wont be tested at 100W.

    Thank you for the replay
But his notebook is a p151em and his 8970m is already dead and I will sell my 7970m for him.
My card is a Clevo one with enduro off but his notebook work great with card that have enduro ON
So I will need to change the vbios then the card will have enduro or it will work without change the vbios.
    Thanks

I think you will need to change it as they fiddled with the boot procedure within the vbios to get it to work.

    Hi Jaybee83,

I'm the owner of a Clevo P150HM with AMD Radeon HD6990M. Unfortunately the 6990M is(was) broken already twice. I baked it at 195C° for 8 minutes, and managed to save it. It is actually working right now. However I'm going for the upgrade now with the AMD Radeon HD7970M.

Your guide seems flawless, and I am already preparing the USB boot drive for the blind-flash...etc.

However, I have 2 concerns (sry I'm a newb, and maybe those concerns are irrelevant)

    1) There is not mentioned which version of video driver to install after the upgrade. I have read in some forums, that there might be problems because of the "Enduro...switchable graphics stuff", not supported by Clevo P150HM ???
    2) I also read, that the HDMI ports might not work...???

Is there anything true about those concerns? Can I just use my old driver from the 6990M?

I hope my questions are not too noobish for an expert like you, but I have to be sure, my notebook will work fine after the upgrade, and I could not find the answers in the thread.

Tx a lot in advance for your answers.

    Jersa

    So just want to clarify,

I put the modded bios on the DOS formatted USB drive, ATI Flash tool, and the autoexec, bat, restart with USB selected as first boot, and boom that should be it?

To jersa correct you can use current amd video driver and hdmi only video works not audio.
To asco yes that is correct and practise the command to type as you will be doing this blind nothing on screen to see.
    Good luck.

hey guys, long time no see :)

sorry for my absence, been and still am insanely busy with my PhD here, so I´ll still probably just be here sporadically ;)

anyways@asctottuk2010: actually no need to practice typing in the command, the autoexec.bat file does that for u. so basically just stick it in, let it do its magic and wait for ur laptop to shut off by itself. concerning the drivers, just go ahead and install the newest non-enduro mobility catalyst driver, works just fine :)

as for the HDMI port@jersa: tbh, ive never really used it, so i havent busied myself with a solution to this problem. rumors say that one of the dell vbios versions actually helps but ive never checked it out (even tho im actually on it right now :D)

    cheers

PS: just upgraded my sweet trusty ol` P150HM with an 850 pro and some new ram sticks are still inbound and waiting to be OCed to 2133 ;) having some speed issues with the SSD tho, so i thought id come back for a looksie looksie at NBR :)

ah meaker, good to see u buddy :) wouldnt have expected anything less from u with ddr4 looming on the notebook-horizon :D ddr3-2133 is as far as my system would let me use the slider in xtu haha.

and yeah, i dunno why but the 850 pro is somehow a bit crippled when it comes to 4K read/write performance. if u got any input on this, thatd be much appreciated:

So I followed everything step by step. My laptop has been sitting there for like 20 minutes now, the hard drive light flashes every once in awhile, it was pretty steady for a bit, but now just rarely. It never rebooted as far as I could tell, and I still have a blank screen.
Any ideas? Afraid to shut it down/pull the USB at this point.

u sure u have first boot priority for ur usb drive? u can make sure it actually boots from it by removing any other external and internal drives before blindflashing ur gpu.

funny, after days of tinkering around with two nbr buddies this is actually the direction were heading to@power settings, while ure just pointing that out right away :D lets hope i can figure this out eventually...

Not sure which number you need...link to screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/n6xKGO9.jpg

I tried removing the hard drive, no go. I know the boot order worked though because I had done the test run beforehand without the autoexec.bat just to make sure it would go to the C prompt.

I am a bit stumped at this point, the old video card works fine...is the new one just dead?

Also how long should I wait after it boots up before I know it isn't working?

    Thanks again!

normally the autoexec file doesnt need that much time to do its thing. basically, it boots up, then the fans start spinning at full throttle while the flashing process is going through and afterwards the computer shuts down by itself. the whole thing only takes about 1-2 min. tops!

ok, so ur boot order should be fine, as well as your dos system, since u can automatically reach the command line. go ahead and open the autoexec file and check if the listed .rom file name matches the .rom file ure putting on the usb drive. if the two differ then atiflash is started without finding the correct .rom file to flash, thus just sitting around idly without anything to actually do...

I checked the flash drive, the autoexec.bat is actually not showing up even though I know its there(if I copy the same file over, it asks to overwrite) and I have show hidden files on.
There are also now two files in there, BOOTLOG.PRV and BOOTLOG.TXT but both are 0 bytes. I will try creating the flash drive on another system to see if that helps.
Is the rom file case sensitive? and does it matter if .rom is capitalized or not?

    Thanks!

Shucks. Oh well, luckily I can send it back.
Now to find the correct one..anyone know of a good place? The one I got said Clevo so assumed it wasn't the Alienware verison.

Edit: can't seem to find the 7970m's anymore. I can still find 680m's so might have to go that route. If I do, does it matter what version I buy? I am assuming I just plug it in and its good to go correct?
Can I also use the same heatsink?

Thanks for all the help guys!
