I have Acer Aspire 4330 with a 2 gig processor. I am wondering if I can upgrade to a bigger processor.

Did you get a model with 2 PCB connections for the cable or 3?

the new psu had a 3 connector pcb whereas the stock psu cable only had two internal cables. pau1ow told me the extra one was just for the integrated led so i just ignored it ;)

There seem to be a few revisions going round, some with 2, some with 3 where you can ignore one and one with 3 that relies on feedback.... All with the same part numbers.

When you measure the no load voltage at the tip is it the correct 19.5V?

yep thats correct! theyre tr-torx (tamper resistant torx) screws, got myself a screwdriver for that on amazon for several bucks :) as for the rubber feet, u can just pop those off using a flathead screwdriver for example. u can put them back on afterwards since theyve got adhesive tape on them.

kolias is right. socket/pin-wise ivy and sandy are compatible, but firmware/bios as well as specific mobo components wont let ur machine function with an IB cpu installed in it. so a 2960xm would be the end of the line for the p150hm/np8150

Yes it's intel doing their usual thing unfortunately. However a well clocked 2960xm is nothing to be sniffed at.

yep, u can crossflash between sager and clevo vanilla bios versions. just make sure that when u flash both the EC and Bios u dont reboot ur machine. so better check the respective .bat files if they have a reboot command. if they do, just erase it. if not, ull be fine :)

thanks in advance for your help, I have a Sager NP8150, I recently installed a 2920xm that I purchased on Ebay for 250.00 and completed the above heat sink mod. I dont recall ever flashing a bios on any computer, I however do know that it needs to be done correctly
In section 3 (preparing a USB drive) are you saying to format the usb drive in fat32 while checking (quick format , and (create a dos startup disk) while pointing the USB to the DOS system files that I downloaded here and are residing on my C:drive
then copy the P170Hm bios to the USB drive
then go into my bios and set usb as my 1st boot device
    reboot-
once I have a dos prompt, I can just type (update.bat) if all thats on the usb drive is the (P170HM bios) and no folders

you also told me here on page 8 , not to let the pc reboot, but just shut it down. and make sure to delete any reboot command . I really didnt understand that , why would my pc reboot instead of shut down

I am just trying to flash the P170 bios and not the EC, mostly because I dont know what the EC is for , and you said that it is not needed.
I appreciate any help , and realize that I am not very knowledgable about flasing , I just dont want to brick this laptop. Thank you

    hey buddy,

first of all u have to make sure that uve got the latest EC (embedded controller firmware, controls stuff like keyboard shortcuts, fan tables, etc) installed by checking the version number in ur system bios. the most current one for the p150hm would be 1.00.13, which is compatible with the latest p170hm bios and can thus be left alone when crossflashing. please make sure u have that ec version, otherwise u could brick ur machine if u only plan to flash the p170hm bios without the respective ec firmware!
the deletion of the reboot command is only necessary if u plan to flash both the p170hm bios and ec. normally, after each flash the machine reboots, but its recommended to alter the .bat files in that way as to delete the reboot command. that way u would flash both bios and ec before shutting down/rebooting.
in ur case its not necessary, since ure only planning to flash the p170hm bios without the ec, anyways, so it doesnt matter if ur machine reboots or not. but as i said before: make sure u have the latest p150hm ec firmware installed!!!!

best of luck with ur xm cpu then, keep us updated on ur ocing and temps :)

I tried to flash the updated EC 1.00.13 on my p150hm
I formatted a usb drive with HP utility pointed to dos files and copied the EC files to the USB drive
I set the bios to boot from USB ODD but it just loads windows when I restart
I have asked Sager 2 times to send me the updated EC with instructions for use
they have not emailed me anything
the other bios options are USB key and USB HDD

any ideas, as always , Thank you

save the clock settings to a custom profile, then apply that profile by clicking on "show values" and apply. at least thats how i do it and it works just fine :) as long as those clocks are stable, of course

I would like to thank Jaybee83 and Prema for the help , everything installed without incident
    2920xm installed (250.00)$ EBAY
20 copper heat sinks installed 12 CPU, 8 GPU (50.00)$ Ebay
240W Dell power supply modded and working great (50.00)$ Amazon
sold my 2630qm for 142.00 $ on Ebay
    tuniq TX-2 and aluminum tape 20.00$ Amazon,Wallmart
Total cost for mods after selling my old CPU 230.00$
    passmark 8.0 scores : 2630qm (6455) stock 2920xm (7898) overclocked 2920xm (8825)
    XTU 2.1 installed , server 3.5 32+64bit installed
I now have max turbo boost ratio unlocked and set to 42
max non turbo ratio is unlocked but its max value is 25 , this CPU is a 2.5 - 3.5GHZ
    stress testing with prime 95 . I am getting 3.0GHZ 8 threads and 4.2 GHZ with 1 thread 92C
I pushed the CPU to a maximum of 4.5 GHZ on 1 thread with prime 95 perfectly stable 1 hour
TRL settings in throttlestop 5.0 seem to do nothing
I can run the turbo multiplier @43X but when I run prime 95 on 2 threaded stress test I hit 96C
the stability is fine @43X in every stress test (Y-cruncher,intel burn test,Prime 95, 3D MAX 2013 rendering)
stress tested power supply , running Rigid Gems 2.0 and Intel burn test on max @ the same time while the laptop is plugged in and charging the battery . it worked perfectly
I gained 30% performance on 8 threaded apps going from the stock 2630qm to the modded 2920xm and 62% performance on single threaded apps (46%) avg gain for 230 dollars
    thanks again guys

all testing done using the P170HM 70W_80W_32s bios and fans on auto, I never used Fn+1 as I need this laptop to be bulletproof stable on automatic

    Laptop used Sager NP8150/P150HM
    16GB 1333 DDR3 , 128GB intel 510 SSD , 6990m @ 830mhz , WIN 7 Ultimate
I comparison shopped for parts on EBAY,NEWEGG and AMAZON and took the cheapest price including shipping
2920xm was purchased used everything else was new

    hey there,

generally id be glad to, under several conditions:

    1. ask prema for permission since its his work. u can send him a pm here and ask him.

    2. do not distribute these modified bios versions to anyone else without prema's permission, especially no public posting!

    3. no warranties for ur hardware. watch ur temps and be sure ur cooling system is up to the task, were not taking responsibility for smoked cpus ;)
