It only takes a few constructive posts to unlock the PM and then you have an entire wealth of people on this forum to contact directly for advice now and for the future.

Then you don't deserve the time of those who put all these mods together and ask not payment.

I know that sounds harsh but I think it's for the best.

Now, you are asking this community for help, there are loads of threads around that someone who is apparently as knowledgeable as you could help. Everything from buying advice, basic technical support to knowledge of specific models and custom software.

If you are tired of people posting a certain way, set an example.

Just think what it looks like to this community walking in, demanding people's hard work and then telling them that they are not worth your time.

Not exactly sure what you mean but i assume you want to use the dell psu on your p150hm. Here's something that should work ok:

    X75 Power Connector - 7.4 x 5.08mm Female Jack to 5.5 x 2.5mm Male Plug

generally id be glad to, under several conditions:

    1. ask prema for permission since its his work. u can send him a pm here and ask him.

    2. do not distribute these modified bios versions to anyone else without prema's permission, especially no public posting!

    3. no warranties for ur hardware. watch ur temps and be sure ur cooling system is up to the task, were not taking responsibility for smoked cpus ;)

hi I also would like the P170HM 70W_80W_32s mod bios if possible, I already flashed the stock p170hm bios and ec, on my p150hm, I have a 2670qm waiting on my 2920xm. I have the 240w PSU, and the old 485m still strokeing along.. also would anyone have the 1.03 bios? thanks very much for any help.. [email protected]

hm, how exactly did u mod the psu? maybe there is a loose contact that makes the psu give out when stressed? also, how high (if at all) did u oc ur xm cpu? have u tested its stability? i used to get cut outs when stressing my cpu at 4.8 ghz, so i turned it down a notch to 4.7 and since then its been stable :) also, are u using the p170hm stock bios or modded one with upped tdp levels?

    cheers

If the PSU is cutting out and the system moves over to battery and then shuts down then you should look first at the cable/mod you used to get it working. Is it thick enough, is the tip or cable getting hot?

Xm only clocked to 4.4 (bsod at 4.6ghz). Stock bios. 240w Psu modded by de-soldering and putting in clevo cable from 180w psu. Tested with multimeter and no loose connections. Only cuts out when gpu is on max load. Cpu benchmarks/stress tests work ok.

The 560M HM mobo might have been rated for a bit less than the higher ones. It's not something I have checked but have seen it in other models from other companies.

If I buy a 2960XM, for example: INTEL i7 2960XM 2.7GHz processor QS For 65 chipset CPU upgrade monkey | eBay

Will that one work in my P150HM? Can I skip the flash if I dont want to oc, just plug it in?
Will the 180W psu be enough for a stock 2960XM and a 780m with only mild oc?
Related: Can I fully utilize a 780m or similar if I keep my 2670QM? Im already cpu-bound in Planetside 2 90% of the time.

first of all, well have to wait and see if the 780m could even work in our hm laptops ;)

as for ur other questions: if u dont plan to oc ur new cpu, its just plug n play and ure good to go :) be aware tho that ES and QS samples may often get hotter and less stable than their oem production counterparts. so maybe it would be best to wait a bit and see if a good offer pops up on ebay or here in the nbr marketplace :)

in theory, the 780m (122w) combined with the 2960xm (55w) would already be pushing the stock 180w psu and u may in some cases get throttling due to not having enough power. htwingnuts review showed that the 180w psu is already close to its limit using a non-xm cpu, so with the combo u have in mind there most likely wont be any headroom left for ocing whatsoever and u might even be restricted at stock clocks already. best thing to do then would be to politely ask meaker or someone else proficient enough to mod a dell 240w psu for you ;)

    Thanks for the info!

Yes I know the 780m doesn't work yet, just trying to plan ahead :)

Good to know about ES and QS, I will look for OEM. Will any 2960XM work, not brand dependant like gpu?

The psu part is not good, maybe Ill get the fastest 45W instead.

What about my last question, will it be overkill with a 780m or something similar if I keep my 2670qm?

cpus are not brand dependant like gpus, thats correct. so it doesnt matter if the new cpu was pulled out of an alienware or any other machine, theyre all the same :)

the fastest 45W cpu for our machine would be the 2860qm, just in case ure seriously considering it.

cant say its an overkill in general, it always depends on the game and the graphics settings. the more u max out the settings, the more ur gpu will be the bottleneck in ur system. all in all, i dont think u would notice anything significant in games, whereas in benchmarks it will probably be more distinct.

    cheers

I wouldnt say Im seriously considering it, not sure what to do tbh.
I will probably wait and see if the 780m will work and get that. And then see if my cpu is holding it back. I play alot of multiplayer and Id hate to see the power of an expensive 780M go to waste.

How to best compare cpu power and performance? If I look at Passmark I can expect a 20% and 30% increase for the 2860qm and 2960xm respectively, going from my 2670qm.
    Do these numbers seem correct?

hm, got more info littlecx? whats ur system again?

@mrnasjman: always depends on the kind of benchmark of course. if its heavily gpu bound like the more current 3dmarks ull see less of a difference in overall scores but ud rather have to check on the physics scores. pcmark generally is rather cpu-bound, also saw a huge jump in the opengl test of cinebench 11.5.
when it comes to games, there are wide differences as well, depending on the engine, ur graphical settings and generally the age of the game, whether ur gpu or ur cpu is the main bottleneck :)
