I am running it at the moment and actually have run the new 3dmark as well so I know the difference. However the thermal paste I had seems to be pretty bad for the gpu (temps reach ~90c in 3dmark) so I'm going to order some gelid extreme (which seems to be popular and I've read good things about it) before really benching my card again. Might as well repaste the cpu with the same paste once I get it to drop temps even further.

Edit: the runs I made when testing temps:
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx <- Stock
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx <-Slight OC
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/265008 <- 950/1400, temps reached 94C during the benchmark... won't be doing more before repaste.

Dont run any other bench untill you repaste it....be carefull..... ;)

don't worry buddy, I'm not doing anything GPU intensive with the lappy at the moment (no time) so I'll be able to wait till I have a proper paste installed.

give that 7970m a run for its money buddy ;) u could deff up the mem to 1450 or even 1500. also give the core another 10-20 mhz. :)

    Very nice.... for a 7970M :p

It does show how worth it upgrading the HM series is.

I only lose to the ivy machines because I have the weakest cpu of the i7 lineup.

We now need a bench of the same rig with a 680M to properly compare, i have only seen monster CPU benchmarks (with OC 680s).

heres my OC 3dmark btw, 950/1450, I am not able to get stable perf with higher OCs, any idea? I use MSIAB, but only see the core and mem sliders, the voltage are not movable, do i need to oc voltage to reach higher more stable values?

you could check if you core voltage under load is 1.000v or 1.050v. I'd imagine that could make the difference. Despite having 1.050v on mine the core won't take more than 1ghz (tested with stock memory, didn't matter) fully stable in games. But I'm happy anyways.

The 7970M does seem VERY sensitive to the power delivery system on the motherboard, have you tried maybe 1.025V as a middle ground?

but it looks a bit low for "not enduro affected" overvoltable 7970m or?
even whit my "enduro affected" (never seen it by me, but if all say it a have to believe in it) EM-model i can get 300 gpu-points more (see my signature)

its cuz he has the second-weakest cpu of the sandy bridge line-up. its holding the 7970m back a bit.

and dayum, i still havent manage to break 8k in 3dmark11, even with that monster OC on my cpu *sigh*

My score goes lower than yours though when I drop my memory clock to the same level so I still think I am paying a slight optimus tax.

What core and mem clock you used to get that P5537 score? I dont seem to be able to go over 950/1450 stable OC with MSI. Do you move only the mem and core sliders or are you doing something elese?

For some reason if i go higher than 980 core my lappy BSODS or the least crashes when running kombustor or 3dmark11. highest so far has been 980/1450:

but i am truly afraid to fry my card if i keep trying.

I used the data sheet for the chip, used the equation it gave to work out the values I needed and a multimeter to check values.

Sure if you just shade away and guess it is dangerous, but with understanding and care it can be done safely.

There is a good reason I have not shared where exactly the chip and resistor is because if you are capable of doing it safely you should be able to work it out.

yes i know, but if overvolted i was maybe able to get 1100 on core :D

i get BSOD first if i go higher than 1060 on core or 1600 on mem. on 1055-1060 core / 1550-1600 mem i get always "driver stop working" error

Being the same card i can only think of an electrical or power source issue, because you have a bigger rig (the p170). Anyone with P150EM can post its higher OC values? highest stable for me has been 950/1450, the 980/1450 crashed 3dmark (no BSOD tho).
I think i would need to mod the volts somehow to get higher OC, probably wont try, happy with my stock values.

i believe those gold cards (oc to over 1ghz without ov) are from the same printing machine or same factory with newer or more accurate machines.

Over volting can be done through flashing an edited vbios (can be found over at tech inferno forums), you are not in any significant danger for a small jump like 1.05V to 1.075V.

A nice score, do you plan on tweaking at all or it going to remain that way?

Also that's a very interesting arrangement of SSDs you have there....

    Thank you!

Yeah, I'm going to spend the night tweaking it and seeing what scores I get.

I'm a fan of the Plextor SSDs. They get great reviews and I've never heard a bad thing about them from anyone. I may even swap out the Crucial mSATA for the new 256GB M5M Plextor just came out with.

Just be aware only 2 ports are SATA III so if you raid with one on a SATA II port any in the array will run at SATA II speeds.
