Novatech are selling these for an absolute steal. I was tempted when the base version was going for ~£1400. Had I not got my Vostro, I don't think I could have resisted at this price!

I may well upgrade to a DTR at the end of this year. My desktop just gets such little use these days, it's much easier to spend my time on the laptop and as much as I hate to admit it, my gaming time is far less than it used to be.

yeah these are the best prices for the 5793 in the UK, shame they dont sell the 9262. but if i decide not to get the 9262 waiting for the SLI benchmarks to see how much the performance increase is, if i dont like it then i think ill go for the second BlueRay version

lol that processor isn't worth it.... your GPU will be the bottleneck for games one day, not CPU... also mobile quad cores will laugh at the X9000! And so will you when thinking of choosing the X9000 over the T9300 for such a tiny difference when mobile quads are around....

will the 5793 be able to sue Mobile Quads?
    what will the prices be?
will the 5793 be able to use any 9xxx series cards?

great, see i like the 9262 coz i KNOW it can use Quad Core but its out of the

    5793 for its portability
9262 for SLI and Quad Core

im not sure what one to get, ill wait for some reviews and Benchmarks of SLI and Quad Core before i fully decide, if i get the 9262 i will get it from Kobalt and if i get the 5793 i will get it from Novatech

Well, if you can afford it, why hold yourself back on the 9262 with SLi and Quad ? Is portability a concern, hence the 5793 ? Then why even think beyond it ?

i know portability is important but so is performance, how much heavier is the 9262 compared to the 5793?

~11.5 lbs compared to 8.35 lbs, not to mention the MUCH lower battery life, crappier inbuilt sound, higher price, thicker... MUCH thicker...

how much is that in stone?
the more i think about it the more im thinking of going for the 5793 but SLI i think is more future proof yeah at the moment it might not be great but given time and more use by people better drivers could be made and more games created that can use it better

while the 5793 can only use ONE 8800m GTX sure its good now for playing games at max but how long will that last a year? less?

    About a year.
The SLI 8800M GTX will be good for at least 2 more years.
God,I`ve had my nx9420 for more than 2 years now and it seems like ages have passed since I got it :D
So 2 years is a big deal.

Gotta love the internet - here is a pounds-to-stone converter, and google found a whole bunch more.

Using the pounds to stone converter above, we find as follows:
    • 11.5 pounds = 0.8214285714285714 Stone, or approx. 0.82 stone, which comes out to about 13/16-ths stone in English;
    • 8.35 pounds = 0.5964285714285714 Stone, or approx. 0.6 stone, which comes out to about 19/32-nds stone in English.

    Howdya like them apples.jpg ?

what so the 9262 weighs 0.82 stone? and the 5793 weighs 0.6 stone.

see im leaning towards the 9262 for future proofing with Quad Core and SLI but the 5793 is more portable

    That's what the converter sayeth. Since 1 stone = 14 lb, if I do the maths long-hand (ok, by MS calc :D ), I get 11.5lb = (11.5/14 = 0.821428) stone, and 8.35lb = (8.35/14 = 0.596428) stone. So, based on that, the 9262 is about (11.5/8.35 - 1) = 37% heavier than is the 5793.

For a grocery-store comparison, a U.S. gallon of water weighs about 8.34 pounds, while an imperial gallon (old UK weight system) weighs about 10lb.

Thus, a 5793 weighs about as much as a gallon jug of water (U.S.) or just a little more than 13/16-ths of an old imperial gallon (which would be about the same as 13 cups of water, assuming 1 gal = 4 qts = 8 pts = 16 cups). Since a gallon (US) of water is about 3.785 litres, that means that, in Euro-measure terms, the 5793 weighs (masses, really :D ) about 3.785 kg.

A 9262 weighs just a little more than 1-1/3 gallon jugs of water (U.S.) or about 1-5/32-nds of an old imperial gallon (which would be about the same as 1 imperial gallon, plus 1 pint, plus 1/2 cup, of water, using the same assumptions above). In Euro-measure terms, a 9262 weighs (masses) about 5.219 kg.

Those numbers should give you some easy-to-obtain comparatives; e.g., just go down to the butchers and ask for two steaks, one 3.785 kg and the other 5.219 kg - if the steaks are reasonably thin, that'll probably also get you an estimate of the relative volumes of the two computers as well. :D

Well, that should at least do it on the portability index - if you really want to find out what it'll be like to carry either system around, get two bits of wood that have the same physical dimensions as the two systems, then add extra weight to each so that you get the right weights.

That should give you a very good idea in practical terms as to whether or not you'll be willing to carry either system around (and a good laugh for your mates watching you lug around under your arm a plank of wood with bits of lead attached :D ).

In terms of gaming performance and how long that performance will be top-notch, the first point is that no one really knows; for all we know, the next-gen NVidia cards (the 9-series) will either be horribly delayed, or will punk out and give only marginal gains over the 8800M - of course, they could also come out by Christmas and give 300% performance gains, too.

It also depends on how obsessive a gamer you are, and how obsessive you are about playing only the latest and greatest of new releases. If so, then the 9262 should be given much more weight than the 5793 because of the Sli 8800s, the quad-core CPU, and the tantalizing possibility that the 9262 might be able to take the next gen of quad core CPUs coming out with no more than a BIOS upgrade (although that might also include a mobo upgrade, but I'm inclined to think not because the last mobo upgrade had to be done to take into account the fact that NVidia was no longer going to allow BIOS-only support for EDID-less displays; thus, the fix that brought us the 9262 should (i.e., at least 50% plus 1 probability) be adequate for the next overhaul of the 926x series).

If you don't have an all-consuming fetish/need to play only the very latest in graphics intensive games at the highest levels of detail possible, and in particular if you envision yourself primarily spending the bulk of your time playing only a couple of games that just came out or that will be coming out shortly, then the 5793 should get about as much weight as the 9262.

The fact of the matter is that game development from start to finish takes a number of years, and so most of the games that will be coming out in the next 2 to 3 years will all be the result of development processes that started at least 1 to 2 years ago, when neither the 8800M series GPUs or the quad-core CPUs were available, which means that none of those games will be optimized for a quad-core/8800M combo, let alone a Montevina/9-series combo, and thus you should be able to get top-flight to very above-average performance out of any game coming out in the next 2 to 3 years from the 5793. For example, according to this paper which reported on a study of the game development industry in VIC, Aus, the time from first concept to completion of testing and release to retail can take from 3 to 4 years (see pages 4 and 5).

The games that will only be worthwhile playing on a system that's better than the 5793 (or, more particularly, the 9262) will have to be built from the ground up, e.g., to really take advantage of DX10, and will have only just started development this year or last year, so those games won't be coming to market until 3 or 4 years from now. By that time, you'll have recovered from whatever you decide to drop now, and will be able to justify the expense of a new Clevo.

Basically, if you can manage to port around the weight/volume equivalent of a 9262 without sending yourself to hospital, and you're a gaming fanatic, then you should get the 9262; on the other hand, if you're the proverbial 98lb (7 stone) weakling, and you'll be spending all of your gaming time for the next 3 years playing MS Flight Simulator X, then you should get the 5793 (as well as a personal trainer :D ).

I think that's the best explanation about the longevity of a gaming laptop yet. It definitely gives me a good feeling that I bought the right notebook.

A couple of months later, you'll be waiting even more for the mobile quads since they'll be that closer.... and the process continues....

Personally, I'd say got with the 5793. Enjoy it's portability and performance now, then sell it on and upgrade later.

In a year to 18 months there will be single card solutions with the portability of the 5793 that out-perform the SLI 9262.
You'll only feel the itch to upgrade to them, and will have been lugging round that heavy old brick all the time prior to that.

but could the 5793 be upgraded to 9xxx series cards that out perform 8800M SLi if so then i would go for the 5793 and upgrade the graphics card later i dont really want to buy a laptop that i iwll have to sell in a year to 18months becuase the perofrmance aint as good as it was. i would prefer to get a 5793 and upgrade to mobile quad and a 9xxx series card in a year to 18 months

And what if it can't ? And what if the 9 series outperform the 8800 SLi by a mile ? What CAN you do ? Just buy what you can already !!

Man, I give up on advising you! You're just best off waiting a long time for mobile quad core and mobile 9 series, when 8 cores will start getting outdated for desktops and be expected for laptops, when you'll wait yet again...
at this rate, I promise you, you'll NEVER have a laptop in hand....

    EDIT :

Remember, its the BEST technology available today we are talking about... and it doesn't satisfy you... what can ?? You want something not even invented yet, and if it were, you'd still want even better.... As I said before,

Bottomline: Get a laptop for what you need, not what you want. Because wants are limitless.

EDIT2: Tell me, my friend, isn't it true we started off in this forum at about the same time looking around for a notebook ? Actually, you started before me, and that was more than 2 months ago. I pulled the trigger, and you wanna wait another couple of months to buy the 9262 and at that point, I guarantee you'll wait for the quads. Tell me why it turns out this way ?

at the moment its the best the thing i dont like is in 6-12months it will be outdated and games will struggle on high settings.

i may just go for it, after the games start to struggle then i will sell it, if i get bluray drive, 4GB ram, 8800M i should be able to get £1,000 in 12months? if so then i will be happy

Please go back and read my edits. You and I have no control over whether it gets outdated or not... you have to deal with it. It IS the latest tech we're talking of after all....

ah screw it i will buy one either 9262 or 5793, looking towards the 5793 its more portable but the 9262 has more power with quad core and dual 8800m's if the 5793 can use Quad Core M then i will go for the 5793.

When do the 'if's end ? You should have an idea of how much is enough for you, to buy accordingly.... Newer tech WILL come out and quad core or not, even that will get outdated... not to mention the GPU. So when will the wait EVER end for you ?

Man, you're NOT HEARING ME! It's not this notebook that'll be obselete in a year... it's EVERY notebook you look at, at any point in your life no matter the price tag, that would be obsolete in a year. UNDERSTAND this fact.

When I originally ordered my notebook it was to have the Santa Rosa T7700 CPU. After waiting several months the new Santa Rosa refresh Penryn CPU's came out and luckily my notebook hadn't yet been delivered. So naturally I upgraded the order to the new processors. I could have waited even longer for the Montevina to come out but as Prasad007 says "Every notebook you look at.....would be obsolete in a year". And the same will be true of the Intel Montevina, Nvidia 9 series, Penryn Quad Core etc..... Never ending. So if you want to have a "future proof" gaming notebook you'd be better off getting a desktop you can upgrade at a cheaper price, because future proof in the notebook world is an oxymoron, in other words; the future is never proof. It's a contradiction in terms.
