There should be a new beta driver release for the 7000M series coming within a month or so, that supposedly comes with great performance enhancements.

I think that AMD has been working hard to solve the issue. It just that they didn't announce anything until now, and that has been very frustrating.

Exactly, I think if they didn't communicate until now, was because they were searching for the problems roots, Fix-able or not... They realized that with new, special drivers they can fix enduro (because it'snot hardware related)

    SO glad I didn't exchange for a 680m and throw 300 Euros away ^^
I mean, 300 Euros is the price of a Wii-U , an android quadcore tablet or a good FHD TV Oo, just for the same performance but better driver

please wait for drivers to arrive before celebrating as beta drivers sent to anandtech did not improve utilization all that much.

Anandtech probably got the 12.9 beta, the same one you guys have already tried.. it was stated that there were new drivers coming out in Oct, improving the UI and creating a platform in the code to add the fix shortly after. At least thats how I understood it.

Exactly, but some people just dont want this to be fixed, or they are so heartbroken by the delay and dissapointments that dont want to have hope at all.

to each their own. working in tech industry makes you very realistic (pessimistic?), - doubt everything other companies tell you until they can prove it otherwise. hope and optimism just removes pressure from the other party to deliver things on time, constant pressure and negative press on the other hand gives you better results.

Yes and no, we are not talking about blind faith and hapiness, actually our trust and optimism directly puts them on the spot that we trust THEM to fix the issue, so if they dont they are the ones to blame, moreso if they use this trust to peace waters.
In the long run its better for AMD that we are negative and they turn out to be saviors, than if we are positive and can take part of the price for helping them help us..

    just saying.

It's just money. AMD weighs what is more profitable. Fix the problem and save face? Ignore the problem and lose the mobile market and continue to receive bad press.

That's all it is. AMD management made a decision based on what was most profitable.

Besides, it is probably much cheaper to fix Enduro than to code a whole new software for the next series of cards.

 So for all intents and purposes it looks like the end of the major issue is near. I really hope so anyway :) It sounds like basically they really did find a way to fix it. If it really works, I should be seeing 2.5-3x the FPS in DCS World for example.

What is most important to note is not just the Enduro being addressed. AMD claims they are now making an effort to add switchable graphics to their regularly updated unified drivers program, so our switchable graphics should be supported along with the other desktop/mobile drivers. This is very good if they actually do this.

Just a more functional UI, which is welcome (what was promised initially to Anandtech), but we expect more.

And I don't see this being what AMD claimed to offer soon. I can't find any Intel drivers on this so you can install this on switchable graphics. It looks like a desktop driver to me.

I will find out in a couple days when I'm done downloading it from Steam. I should have started the download last night, but Crysis 2 was finishing up. I really hate Steam and their sales, lol. Over the past 3 weeks, I've bought maybe 15 games and only got around to playing one of them.

Great news indeed! It seems we are creating a new trend in that reviewers take comments into account and edit/update their articles accordingly.
Moreso it creates real pressure on the big companies that are usually deaf about these issues.

I have been a little off lately, i finally received my PM150EM last monday, but being in national holliday's down here i had no time to log to the web.
As for the new machine i cant make any comments yet, since i am barely updating windows and installing software and games.

great news, i can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I started laughing when I read "light at the end of the tunnel." Given everything we have been through (and continue to go through), I thought this Rusko - Cockney Thug - YouTube was appropriate. Warning: Wub and cursing... and not much else.

Now, what is beyond the light? ;)

Edit: The rest of my post did not submit for some reason.

Borderlands 2 is not working that well for me, either. I see some nasty fluctuations, usually ones associated with severe tearing.

Does Enduro cause more tearing than would be normal with v-sync off? That wouldn't make sense.

Why would anyone play Borderlands with v-sync off? First one had horribad screen tearing and v-sync had to be forced via a third party program. Haven't booted up the second yet to tell if it's any better, but if they stuck with UE3, I imagine it's similar to 1.

The graphic options are great and it plays great everywhere except on larger areas or high-GPU demanding areas in general, where the GPU usage goes down and obviously I'm getting much lower fps. The usual...

Wouldn't every think of playing with Vsync off... Who needs more FPS than your eye can notice?

I set up physx on low, the problem is when there too much explosion the fps drop a lots and it stays like that even when the action ended.
I played the game for hours I'm level 11 so far and it happens even when in small area GPU used at 30% - fps at 15 !

I'm level 9 and I still have a steady 60. What v-sync settings do you have it at? I have it locked at 60. Default is something like 22-62 smooth or something.

This sounds like a bug that will be fixed by the October fix. Our systems FAR exceed the recommended CPU requirement (Core 2 Quad Q6400 2.13GHz) and also surpass the recommended GPU requirement (GTX 560). This is obviously an issue happening as a result of the driver bug AMD talked about, where display info is being kept from getting passed quickly enough. I am assuming when so many explosions happen, the GPU and CPU can handle it easily, but because more complex display data is being passed, the "bug" kicks in, and then because the 7970m has to wait to make new frames, it goes underutilized. As a part of the bug, the 7970m some times stays at that low utilization point even if it can go back up.

Like I said, this should fixed by the hotfix and eventual driver according to AMD through the tomshardware article. CPU usage is likely 40% or less and GPU usage obviously low. This software bug is pretty bad. Even now, I still feel hardware is causing it and we may be being lied to. The Optimus Copy Engine is a hardware feature that solves this issue with Nvidia cards by allowing smooth transfer of display data and render data. Hopefully the 7970m has a similar feature, but it is simply being driven incorrectly.

That would depend on AMD's explanation and their new plan to solve the issue. I tend to be rather realistic (read pessimistic) but I think the fix will at least alleviate the issue, perhaps to a degree I just no longer care. The "promised" 1-5% fps loss with Enduro would be quite negligible.

I believe that the framerate stays low until the particles decay/fade; that's my experience anyway. Once I turned physx to low, however, the game performed fairly well and stayed around 60FPS. It does randomly drops down into the 40's in seemingly low-poly areas and hopefully that issue gets resolved with the update. After reading on Gearbox and Steam's forums, it looks like the physx issue isn't exclusive to the 7970, so it may require an actual update to BL2.

Tried BL2 with physx set to medium (everything else maxed at 1080). Under most circumstances, fps is between 45 and 60. When there's a lot of cloth on screen, my fps has gone down to around 24.
