There should be a new beta driver release for the 7000M series coming within a month or so, that supposedly comes with great performance enhancements.
I think that AMD has been working hard to solve the issue. It just that they didn't announce anything until now, and that has been very frustrating.
-
SO glad I didn't exchange for a 680m and throw 300 Euros away ^^
I mean, 300 Euros is the price of a Wii-U , an android quadcore tablet or a good FHD TV Oo, just for the same performance but better driver -
please wait for drivers to arrive before celebrating as beta drivers sent to anandtech did not improve utilization all that much.
-
Anandtech probably got the 12.9 beta, the same one you guys have already tried.. it was stated that there were new drivers coming out in Oct, improving the UI and creating a platform in the code to add the fix shortly after. At least thats how I understood it.

to each their own. working in tech industry makes you very realistic (pessimistic?), - doubt everything other companies tell you until they can prove it otherwise. hope and optimism just removes pressure from the other party to deliver things on time, constant pressure and negative press on the other hand gives you better results.
-
In the long run its better for AMD that we are negative and they turn out to be saviors, than if we are positive and can take part of the price for helping them help us..
just saying. -
It's just money. AMD weighs what is more profitable. Fix the problem and save face? Ignore the problem and lose the mobile market and continue to receive bad press.
That's all it is. AMD management made a decision based on what was most profitable. -
-
 So for all intents and purposes it looks like the end of the major issue is near. I really hope so anyway
It sounds like basically they really did find a way to fix it. If it really works, I should be seeing 2.5-3x the FPS in DCS World for example.
-
-
Agreed. And they should if they want to compete with NVIDIA in the mobile market.
-
Leaked driver appears to be the beta performance driver 12.9, might be worth a shot

hey guys, just found a new article bout 7970m in sager on tomshardware
They say that xotic pc is offering the 7970m as a best price performance ratio, but nobody mentioned about enduro performance cripple.. I think it could use a few comments

Any idea of the performance on Borderlands 2 with enduro crap?
I don't want to buy the game and be disappointed /: -
I will find out in a couple days when I'm done downloading it from Steam. I should have started the download last night, but Crysis 2 was finishing up. I really hate Steam and their sales, lol. Over the past 3 weeks, I've bought maybe 15 games and only got around to playing one of them.

I have experienced some drops now. All the way down to 25 fps. But I'm having a blast.

Just gonna post this here also. These are great news indeed:
Update: Taking AMD To Task On Enduro : Xotic PC NP9150: Striking Back At Kepler With Radeon HD 7970M
I'll be satisfied with 1%-5% performance hit. -

At least they are pressuring AMD to move the deadline closer... that's always better for us. -
I like how they said it's the CPU bottlenecking on BF3, lol. I guess it's bottlenecking every other game with poor optimization?

Moreso it creates real pressure on the big companies that are usually deaf about these issues.
I have been a little off lately, i finally received my PM150EM last monday, but being in national holliday's down here i had no time to log to the web.
As for the new machine i cant make any comments yet, since i am barely updating windows and installing software and games.
great news, i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. -
I confirm Borderlands 2 suffers from the problem as well.

Now, what is beyond the light?
Edit: The rest of my post did not submit for some reason.
Borderlands 2 is not working that well for me, either. I see some nasty fluctuations, usually ones associated with severe tearing. -
Does Enduro cause more tearing than would be normal with v-sync off? That wouldn't make sense.
-
Why would anyone play Borderlands with v-sync off? First one had horribad screen tearing and v-sync had to be forced via a third party program. Haven't booted up the second yet to tell if it's any better, but if they stuck with UE3, I imagine it's similar to 1.
-
The graphic options are great and it plays great everywhere except on larger areas or high-GPU demanding areas in general, where the GPU usage goes down and obviously I'm getting much lower fps. The usual...
Wouldn't every think of playing with Vsync off... Who needs more FPS than your eye can notice? -
Still in the first area thingy (dragon ship thing) and it's maintained a steady 60 so far. Going to see what turning physx does later tonight, lol.
-

I set up physx on low, the problem is when there too much explosion the fps drop a lots and it stays like that even when the action ended.
I played the game for hours I'm level 11 so far and it happens even when in small area GPU used at 30% - fps at 15 ! -
I'm level 9 and I still have a steady 60. What v-sync settings do you have it at? I have it locked at 60. Default is something like 22-62 smooth or something.
-
sheldorconqueror Notebook Consultant
All setting on high , physx minimum and fps locked at 60 I tried with / w-out v-sync and fps drop still exist.
Of for those wondering what we are missing with physx on max :

Like I said, this should fixed by the hotfix and eventual driver according to AMD through the tomshardware article. CPU usage is likely 40% or less and GPU usage obviously low. This software bug is pretty bad. Even now, I still feel hardware is causing it and we may be being lied to. The Optimus Copy Engine is a hardware feature that solves this issue with Nvidia cards by allowing smooth transfer of display data and render data. Hopefully the 7970m has a similar feature, but it is simply being driven incorrectly. -

I recognize that this has turned into a discussion thread, but:
Minecraft gets only about 20% utilization with the latest drivers on my Clevo P170EM.
Bios version: 04.06.05 -
Tried BL2 with physx set to medium (everything else maxed at 1080). Under most circumstances, fps is between 45 and 60. When there's a lot of cloth on screen, my fps has gone down to around 24.
-
Only 25-45 FPS in Saints Row 3? I didn't expect it to be so demanding.
-
its not, my 6970m had solid 60fps in SR3.
-

Torchlight II : lock at 60fps but a lot of fps drop, in some case the gpu won't be used ? or a few sec it stays at 0 % and the fps will be around 15fps
-
Got pics of your 15fps in borderlands 2 and torchlight 2? I still haven't gotten that low fps in borderlands even with physx on medium.
