Ah, well I was under the assumption that this was a co-project with ATI, since it's only using ATI GPUs. This would alleviate the problem of having to buy a cheap portable laptop and own a gaming desktop, for those that prefer that option.
-
only reason i would buy it is because, I go back and forth from China on business trips. It would be hard to carry the monster in my signature everytrip.
But, I will with no complaints
Ya i understand what your saying too Gamingacu about they need to put forth more effort in their mobile GPU department, and not externals.
But, would be nice for the guys(like me)that have these 2 to 3 year old business notebooks with the old ATI integrated gpu's, and can't even come close to playing any newer games.
If this is successful, It would surely hurt laptop sales, because everybody would just buy this instead of gaming laptops. Of course if they had the cpu to push it. -

I really hope it proves possible to use the notebook's display, rather than requiring a separate monitor. That's probably the biggest "con" factor I could hold against it.
-
OUTSTANDING!!! I can buy the tablet PC I have been looking at (TX2Z) and use it for school - then also use the dock at home to play games and power my 24" monitor..... I love it! Thanks Donald.
-
That's only if the processor and memory can also handle the games. Don't forget that aspect of it.
-
Agreed. But anything will be better than the anemic card that is running in that machine now.
I will still have my Sager 5797 for gaming on the road - but I can use the dock portion while sitting at home. -
Yeah, the biggest con to this product is because it needs external monitor. So basically it turns your laptop into a gaming console... with keyboard and onboard LCD
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Actually in windows 7 it supports both ATI and Nvidia GPU's.
I personally would not buy this product unless it can output to the laptop's monitor, if they make that possible which I'm sure they will, this will be a must have for me, and pretty much any laptop gamer.. Would be nice to flow through Crysis on your laptop with a GTX295.

I think I disagree - I already have a large monitor, power, keyboard, mouse, speakers and lan cable that I plug into my laptop when I sit down at my desk. This would greatly simplify things for me - as a docking station for a non-business PC is very hard to find. This particular one works well for that with the added bonus of being able to add a video card for playing some great games.
We have not been able to do that since the PCI video card days. -
there is a few laptops with new intel chipset.
Gophn, do you anything about them? -
To do what?
-
Use an external video card on a laptop.
Years ago (like 8+ years ago) I could put a PCI video card in a docking station and use that as the primary video card on the machine to power an external monitor. More recently , no other options were available - that I know of.
There was a similar product announced from a laptop manuf. that sells primarily in Europe but I forget the name. That was about 6-8 months ago but AFAIK it never surfaced. -
Amen and ditto to that question ... spot on !!!
Dearest Sir Gophn ... any information on the hotter-than-hot triple C combo
CLEVO-Calpella-Clarksfield
Anything you can gather and leak our way would be mucho appreciated. I am thinking M980NU casing or next gen big screen gaming casing with the above combo.
Guestimated timelines, specs etc. ... anything really ...
Thank you and all the best

Is there a download for the NP9280?
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
I see all the drivers are up on Clevo's website, but no user manual yet.
Not that I expected it (but it woulda been nice, heh), but zero XP support. -
Village tronic has the Vidock2 out. Only bad thing is you have to have an external monitor to run it on
http://www.villagetronic.com/vidock2/index.html
EDIT---Here is the actual Vidock2 on power notebooks

I downloaded the user manual for the M980NU yesterday. Try firefox if explorer won't let you.
ftp://ftp.clevo.com.tw/USRMANUAL/M980NU/M98NU_EUM.zip -
still not working the manual link
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
The manual for the 9280 is what I am seeking. I saw the manual for the M980NU.
Odd the D900F (9280) manual isn't available yet it is actually shipping. -
Ya it's shipping...Mine is sitting at home still boxed up in my closet, and has been for the past 2 weeks.
I hope Sager didn't spare cost and, not put a manual in with it.
-

Look on your CD, the manual will be there.
-
Yeah i figured there was but, i'm sitting here in Shanghai and my Machine is at my ole' Kentucky home in my closet. And btw that is driving me crazy
We(electrosoft and I) was just wondering if there was a P.D.F. downlaod floating around on the internet somewhere that i could just look over to get a feel for it before i get home this weekend. -
Any link for service manual (both D900F and M980NU)?
-
Miss Malevolent Notebook Consultant
Woohoo, thanks for the manual!
-
Are you guys going to buy extended warranty for the m980nu?
Or are 2 years enough? -
I took a 3 years warranty
-

Yeah, it is... big, black, long... (because of the 16:9 form factor).
-
you know what they say about guys with big notebook eh...
-
Miss Malevolent Notebook Consultant
Sounds naughty. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
LOL............
Too funny.
-
One other thing I was thinking about. What about the interface? How long will PCIE 2.0 be used? And will the new replacement be backwards compatible. If not then this Vidock may only be good for a year.
-
buy it, use it for 6 months then sell it, get the next one.
-
sell it *for half the price you bought it* ?
-
I know this is old but the 295 has 2 cards in it...
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
it won't work like that.

See my reply to your same question in the Graphics Card thread:
"There will never be a fix for VISTA because it is part of VISTAs architecture that you can only have one BRAND of video card used with your laptop at a given time. The fix is to use Windows7. You can download Windows 7 Release Candidate from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx
At this time the ViDock 2 only supports up to the ATi RADEON HD 4670, but we will be introducing ViDock 4, hopefully by mid to late August, that will take the fastest video cards available like the ATi RADEON HD 4890 and beyond.
At this time ATi says on AMD chipset based laptops we can also use it to drive the laptop's LCD...and we are working with their technical group to make that happen as well, but until they can prove it to us we will have to wait on that one.
The PCI-e 2.0 and ExpressCard 2.0 standards are brand new, so new that most laptops haven't even adopted them yet. However ViDock is both forward and backward compatible so no worries there." -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
the 9850 looks really nice, shame about the price, but i think i might just re-decide to sell my Sager and get one, after the failed sale of it i was thinking about keeping it but if i manage to get a good price for it i might go for one, but i dont like how the Novatech has the logo of them on the back
-
this was the original logo on the prototype and i think each reseller will have their own logo. im not sure if there would be an option to change it.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
stylenote looks hot.
-
sorry for the crap picture, i was slightly excited when i took it. heres a better one.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
that one looks better then Novatech one, but its ALOT cheaper then Kobalt so i guess its Novatech for mine
-
Miss Malevolent Notebook Consultant
It would be cool if you could get your own name on there.
Probably not feasible because they buy in bulk.
But Miss Malevolent would be bad where Style Note is... -
actualy there is hardly any price difference. as posted in the other thread there is about £17 in it if your comparing using P8600
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
i have already replied about that in the other thread so i wont talk about it again here.
as for the text, yeah it would be cool if you could have different text placed on the section - maybe somewhere like Killernote books or somewhere might be able to offer it? -
I'm leaning towards D900F.
Reasons:
1. Bigger CPU
2. What I do the most is multitasking and the games I play aren't SLI optimized.
9280(D900F) or 9850?(M980NU) Which way are you leaning and why?
