I own a Clevo P750DM with GTX 970M. I have seen on Clevo website that P750DM2 has been released which has GTX 1070. So I want to know that can I upgrade my laptop to GTX 1070. I do know that the process may be complicated but is it possible?
-
-
Given that the 1070 is not in the "old" MXM standard format, it is impossible for Clevo cards. I read somewhere that MSI has special MXM format Pascal cards to fulfill their 2 year upgrade promise, but I have no idea whether it is true or if it would work in your Clevo.
-
Nvidia says what 1070 and 1080 will based on desktop GPU and they are both require extra power supply.
So i think best way for you replace laptop.

Hi it is too early for us to know if it would be recognized in the older model. We have not received any feedback yet.
One thing is for certain we cannot sell any 10 series video cards for at least 2more months. These cards for now are set aside at the factory for the new models for awhile. Sorry, however this is all we know for now. Thanks

Bad luck for me

Thanks for the prompt reply. Maybe my reseller can arrange something for me.

As far as power is concerned my laptop supports 980M which is 100 watt and 1070 laptop is 150 watt. So in that matter the only thing that will be required is a power brick upgrade.
-
Btw mine is not Sager . It is a different reseller named Azom.
-
Problem is you need a extra cable which will connect to GPU but youreally laptop with 980m doesn't have it.
It's the same power cord like with clevo desktop 980.

Ok. Btw I am trying to sell my laptop.

The systems are still the same. Made by Clevo.
-
Yes I know

What I think @bloodhawk was saying is that hardware-wise something that applies to a Sager is going to apply across other Clevo models, so information about one will work for all.
-
Yes I understood the point.
-
Does anyone know about Razer Core support?
-
It works with the P870DM-G. Not tested extensively though.Godfather Ezio likes this.

Don't have one of these to test so that's interesting, what were you running on it when you tested? -
-
Do you have a source for that? The MSI board is getting pretty riled up about this same issue.
-
It was towards the end of this thread, but so much has been posted there I didn't follow it closely.
-
I am pretty pissed about this.......I really hope some how maybe vendors and sager/clevo users can give feedback to sager and tell them we really need a 1070 in standard mxm format
-
Its not upto Sager, but Clevo. I already sent them a pretty nasty email and got a reply back. Waiting for their follow up now.
-
I also mailed them about this and got the following reply:
"Dear Sir,
These two models is different model. it can't swap to use yet.
Sincerely Yours,
Marketing"i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -
Mine was kinda different lol Didnt outright say no.i_pk_pjers_i and Godfather Ezio like this.

Even a 1060 will suffice, given it has cost near to its desktop variant.
-
from what I heard the 1060 is pretty much close to being a 980m

Yes, with much less power consumption and new technology.i_pk_pjers_i likes this.

Well I think I will keep my 970M for a while and wait for Nvidia Volta and Intel Cannonlake.

That's not a bad option for 970/980 as both of these will still do very well at 1080p for some time.

Yes, it still runs nearly everything at High/Ultra High @60fpsdeadsmiley, i_pk_pjers_i and Meaker@Sager like this.

The latest shiny is always nice but I would use that metric instead.

Thanks, hadn't seen that. I'm still not ready to call myself a fan of the Core but that's good to hear.bloodhawk likes this. -
Same. I really hate the price and how they have gimped the availability.
-
There will be cheaper alternatives in some time and it is a perfect solution for me because I do not have space to keep a full setup in my small hostel room.bloodhawk likes this.

And the others (MSI, Alienware) are proprietary connector/docks, so this is a partial solution. With the current situation I can't fathom compatibility with the Core being something that makes or breaks a purchase of a computer that already probably has a desktop class GPU in it. -
Yes that is true. But Razer Core is meant for laptops with strong CPUs and mobile GPUs.

True, I just keep getting people asking about whether machines with GTX 1808s in them are compatible with it, and I don't really understand that.deadsmiley, bloodhawk and Godfather Ezio like this. -
What do they want? Titan XP?
-
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
They must, I can't think of another reason to get one right now and not wait for another solution that will work better. -
I think Nvidia can make GPU's as powerful as they want, reason being is I find it very strange how right when GPU's need a big boost in laptops for VR, they get it. To me it just goes to show they have been limiting how powerful their GPU's are before now on purpose.....and they did away with standard MXM because of this, so people would have to buy new expensive powerful laptops that include their GPU's.....one reason I am very upset I spent so much money on this laptop and can't (as of now) update the GPU's
-
Nvidia really screwed the pooch with their 10 series cards.... i have a new (7 months old laptop) and i bought it for the only reason to play doom (and now Quake: champions is coming out) and i can't can't even upgrade my UPGRADABLE GPU that i got as a gift for my birthday....
For a company that is in the business of making graphics cards, they really failed on this one... i expected a lot more from them....
does anyone know of a good Gaming Laptop that DOES support the 10 series cards??? -
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
If you're talking new, most newer systems have 10 series in them already. Nothing I can think of at the moment that you can get with an older card in it and upgrade right away though. -
New Razer blade will have gtx 1060 and Razer Core Support.
You can also get p870dm3 with gtx 1080 SLI -

Nvidia don't care if you buy a card or system.i_pk_pjers_i and Prostar Computer like this. -
All they care about is $$$$$... Typical corporate greed!i_pk_pjers_i likes this.

That's their job, if they did not care about $ their investors could sue them. You then need to make sure the system takes that into account so things do not go off the rails.
-
Yes all this is true, but the thing is they are a massive massive multi-million possibly billion dollar company they are afford to also satisfy this portion of the community. I mean if every time they release a new GPU it uses some different form factor then really its not going to be about upgrade ability, it will be oh you have the option to change thermal paste or if this really expensive GPU burns out (which is almost all situations should never happen)...and if there is no longer an upgrade type option feature well then what is the freaking point????SzymonSimonEuRo01 likes this.
970M to 1070?
