This question was probably answered already, but are Sager resellers still selling defective chipset laptops now, so to speak if I order one now I'll have to ship it back for mobo replace?

No, the laptops were unavailable for most of march while chipsets got fixed. All the ones shipping now are fine.

Sager has never shipped a laptop with the defective chipset since January 28th, the Friday before the recall.

They began shipping with the new revised B3 chipset on March 8th.

I just read the thread referenced above. The gold standard in marketing is word of mouth. Nothing builds confidence like truth and transparency. If we trust you, you can build an empire.

On the glossy vs. matt screen issue, does anyone know why it's harder to make a quality matt screen than glossy? My current Dell D820 has a nice UXGA matt screen. I'll settle for glossy OTBE but it would be interesting to understand this issue better.

think you'd get a better response if you'd ask this in a new thread on the main page

I hope this is the right place to ask. But any chance to ever having hdmi input(I heard you guys used to have it if I'm not mistaken) and 3d in the future. Hdmi input being the most important

Also I checked the website and you guys have some great options and love the new matte screen option. Since I hate glossy. The prices are good as well.

I doubt there will be HDMI input from Sager / Clevo. If you want HDMI input M17x R3 is the way to go, which I see in your sig! :D

Yea, it seems to be the only one with that feature. Given I'll be going to Uni and moving around on a yearly basis I cannot get a TV for a few years. I'm really glad R3 had it but would have preferred more makers having it. :D

Given how much I hate glossy and there are some awesome options from kobalt but hdmi input was important. I'm a little surprised alienware seems to be the only one that has it. Maybe in future more might have it.

The Intel recall fix is starting now. Please check with your reseller for getting your motherboard replaced. We are now contacting those who's system shipped before the recall. Thanks... :)

The recall is for everyone who had their machines shipped before Intel shut down shipments. So for those who got their notebooks in January.

    Sorry for newbie question:
How good is Sager 8130 cooling system.
What are the average and peak temp?
Could you please refer me to a good review of this notebook? (with quality of review like in notebookcheck).

Crash42, there are 5-10 threads like that in this forum right now :)

Just look around in the owner's lounge and a few pages back in the main room.

I've revamped the OP, to focus solely on the recall. I will update it, when we receive solid info.

    What we need:

    - Official PR statements from Clevo/Sager
    - Date recall will begin
    - Estimated turnaround

    There's more, but that's a good start.

All resellers can use this thread, to brief their customers on how this will work.

The below was provided if you received a Sager machine...

'We have started our recall process for the Intel HM65/Hm67 chipset. We need the customer's return address so Sager can issue a RMA# and a UPS return shipping label to get the system back for service.
Please inform your customer to back up the Data before sending in the computer back for service.
Once the Motherboard is replaced, the NONE SAGER OEM 's Windows may need to be reactivated.'

We have begun the recall process as well. We will contact customers shortly with instructions on how to return their notebook for service. Also, the warranty shall be extended until the date in which the serviced notebook ships back to the customer. For example, if the laptop is returned to us and shipped back out on May 11th, then the warranty shall be extended until May 11th 2012 on a one year parts warranty, May 11th 2013 on a 2 year parts warranty, and May 11th 2014 on a 3 year parts warranty.

Note: June 2011 is the cutoff date for warranty extension. If the notebook is returned after June 2011 e.g. July/August 2011 etc. - the warranty will not be extended past June 30th. For example, if a customer with a 1 year parts warranty returns their laptop in August 2011, their warranty will be extended until June 30th, 2012.

What is for sure is that many units have gone back to Sager already for this fix. Just a matter of time until all are done. Of course it is encouraged to contact your reseller to make sure of your place in this process... :)

Just a quick question to follow up on this post from late April; have return shipments been going more or less according to the dates that MALIBAL estimated, or earlier, or later? Of course, it could just be a case of no news is good news. [IMG]

Hi, we have been shipping the systems back out within 3-5 days of receiving them, if that's what you were asking. :)

Just got mine back. Everything seems to be in good order. Shipped out Friday May 27, received Tuesday June 7. That's 12 days total with two weekends and a holiday in between. They received it Wed June 1 9am and must have shipped it out Friday June 3, so was in their hands less than 3 days. Not too bad. Even replaced my rubber bumpers and seems that temps so far are reasonable, unlike when I received my unit brand new the temps were running 10c higher than everyone elses until I changed the paste.

Warranty starts now too, which is nice. So anyone interested in buying mine! ;)

Did you get any notifications through e-mail of when they shipped it back to you or anything like that? Or did it just magically appear at your door one day?

To answer my own question, it just magically showed up one day. Pretty satisfied with the turn around time and the laptop is working great! Fans seem less noisy as well...
