Also complaining about the machine being able to have 2tb of pci express based storage and 3tb of mech hdd space seems a bit odd. Did you guys really need 5-6tb of space in the machine?

You picked just about the worst time to consider switching to Alienware
If the predictions turn out to be true many of us are switching camps for sure!lonelywolf90 likes this. -
The thing is that the other laptops I'm considering all have 3 HDD bays, that's crucial to me (AW18, Clevo P570WM).
I'm willing to sacrifice that extra HDD BUT the thing I will not sacrifice is a top notch screen, that's why I've been back and forth about the P570WM. I'm hoping that the resellers will offer some better screen options for the P771ZM. -

Well if 2tb is that quick you should look to get some serious external storage then as a 3rd bay would only allow another 2tb. That would be 7TB max instead of 5TB.

Well, NBR is a very resourceful site filled of active IT enthusiasts, you guys just do what you can to help, sharing is caring
I'm grateful that this is such a nice community, I learned a lot from this site.
I just checked the P751ZM, with 4790K and GTX980M and a 1TB HDD, it's 7999zl. That's about 2330USD *faints*
And no subwoofer for the 15 inch, I guess the internal modem should be well utilised then, seems very practical for on the go when you need the Internet.
I wonder how powerful is the 17 inch's subwoofer.jaybee83 likes this. -
Kinda confused here, there's a 77 1ZM and 77 0ZM?
Any difference between these two, or just something that's purely cosmetic? -
-
The 771 is basically the mysn variant, with black exhausts frame on the external instead of the chrome bling on the other models.
-
yup, the difference should be purely cosmetic in nature...
with 751 being sold in europe and 750 in NA, at least thats what it looks like thus far on preorder pages -
hello guys do you think it'll be worth waiting for this machine instead of going for the Sager NP9377-S (Clevo P377SM-A) that is out right now?
what will the difference be can anyone tell me? -
main differences would be two gpus (P377) vs. one gpu (P751) and mobile CPU (P377) vs. desktop CPU (P751)
also, not sure if the P377 has high-res screen support, but it definitely lacks M.2 ports (mSATA instead) -
The lack of a subwoofer in the 15" is actually a plus to me. The "subwoofer" is about as useless as well, an udder on a bull, and I always did find the sound kind of unbalanced in my P370SM since the subwoofer is located to the far right during normal use. The first couple days of having my P370SM I honestly thought there was something with the speakers!

so i hope that the ZM speakers are enough without a sub to support them...
-
The one on the P170SM is useless. Didn't really add anything. The speakers are not even in the same league as the JBL speakers in my Samsung, which are fantastic (which also have a subwoofer). The Gigabyte P35X v3 had very similar quality to P170SM, again lacking, despite having a subwoofer. So having a subwoofer included is no guarantee of good sound quality.

well this is one case where i sure hope i am wrong, cuz that would mean that i wouldnt miss the sub

The 9380 chassis does support a 120hz 1080p display but not high res (since 17.3" panels are not made in higher resolutions yet), you also get the two GPUs to help drive that higher frame rate, the P7xx models are more about CPU power than raw GPU power.

Hi Everyone,
I am considering ordering a P751ZM from scan.
I notice bigspin ordered with 4970S and I was considering 4970k. What's the reason for ordering with the S series - lower temps/power obviously, but can you not just downvolt the K to the same spec? This'll be my first performance laptop, but I'm familiar with desktop overclocking and changing voltages etc. Do high end laptop motherboard BIOS's give you the usual high-end board level of control so you can downvolt etc? Basically, what I'm asking is, given that I'm prepared to spend a bit of time setting it up, is there any disadvantage to a 4970K?
The second question I have is about the RAM - Scan are only selling this with the 1600mhz Corsair (spit) RAM, does this stuff overclock to 1866 reliably enough? I doubt there's much in it either way, but maybe I'll order it with only 8GB then sell it and replace it all with some 1866 ram. -
theres no reason not to go with the 4790k is ure ready to tinker with its setup
unfortunately, most if not all clevo bios versions are completely locked down and offer only rudimentary options, thus no overclocking. our resident bios wizard prema will make sure that we have all the options we need though
aside from that, ull always be able to use intel xtu for tuning the cpu in windows, thatll give u full control over voltages/clocks even with stock bios!
as for ram, fastest sodimms on the market support 2133 at stock and should be ocable to 2400, so why not go all out with those?
ps: better to post such questions in the owners lounge, more people theresee link in my sig
-
The 4790K may or may not downvolt... but the 4790S is a decent bit slower and has limits on OCing. For most of those on this forum, the 4970S is probably all they need. If you want the best CPU power, go for the 4790K. The real disadvantage will be heat, and possibly power draw (which should not be an issue with a 330W brick). -
You can buy faster ram from Scan. Ask them call you back after placing the order & sales rep can manually change the order.
Reason I went with 4790S is to avoid heat and possible thermal throttling during CPU heavy tasks. Anandtech review proved 4790s is not slower in any games. -
Thanks for all the replies. I'll post any further questions in the owners lounge.
It's been a while since I've purchased RAM, didn't realise 2133 was affordable now, so I'll probably go with that.
Is a 330w PSU standard with these? I thought they were coming with 230w - bigspin, do you have any specific information on what psu scan is shipping with it? -
Scan shipping it with 240w PSU. But you can buy 330w from them. It will cost you extra £86
-

I'd have one of each since the 240w is more portable.
-
Thanks, yes, one of each might work well. One more question for bigspin - since you've already spoken to scan about this, I wonder if you know if they have any plans to offer 3k or 4k IPS panel options?

A decent 1080p display is probably the best option.

For a gamer getting a 1080p and clocking it (which it should do better than the others) is going to give the best gaming experience with a single card.
For content creators and other such types of users then a higher res screen may be better.
To be more specific -
I have a few questions if anyone can help that would be perfect.
I have researched this laptop for some time now finding it under 7 different names worldwide: Clevo P771ZM, Octane, Eurocom P7, Graphite LG1721, NP9772-S Notebook, Notebook K73-5N[23126] and XMG U705 17.3" ULTIMATE Gaming Notebook
I am sure there are many more but as it is new there is no review yet but I was wondering a lot only come with 230w options but some can have 330w for the power supply some threads say there is no difference but that is on low end Laptops not high ends? So is there a difference? Also can anyone speculate on the heat signatures that it could give off given that it only has 2 fans while most sli's have 3 but this is sporting a desktop i7 4790K which i would think to be hotter? Thanks -
What? The P7x0ZM (750 for 15", 770 for 17") comes with a 230W brick which is 100% sufficient for stock usage. A 330W brick is required for heavy OCing, due to the fact that the CPU is rated for 88W under load. Simple.
Stock? Doesn't matter.
Overclocker? Get the bigger brick. -
The primary problem of the 4K panel is power consumption (beside the extra cost). However if you're buying a laptop with a desktop CPU you don't care about battery life anyway. With 4K at such a small size you can set the resolution to pretty much anything you want without noticing any resampling defects unless you're looking at static images or sharp vectors. This provides more flexibility in gaming compared to the 1080p panel. If 1080p is just right you can set it to 1080p and enjoy perfect 2:1 resampling. There's no harm done. If it's a old title and 980M can handle 2560x1440/3200x1800 then why not. -

My point on the 1080p screen likely reaching a higher refresh rate still applies though. Will be interesting seeing user results on that front.
-
hmm, u think that higher resolutions would gimp the max. reacheable refresh rate? i sure hope not, planning to overclock the crap outta my panel!

Didn't know this thread about the P7xxZM. Are there any others I should subscribe to?
-
well this one and the two owner´s lounges are the largest here on NBR
there are a few others as well but theyre pretty specific and small...
Any information on the new Clevo P7x0ZM?
